Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Super Famicom Box, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Cx4 and Star Fox (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

In case you missed my comment a few days ago on Template talk:OSM relation, I think you would be a shoo-in for the Template Editor privilege. You've sandboxed enough, made enough protected template requests, and have a responsible way of handling the templates. You seem to tick all the boxes. I've just acted on your request at Template talk:AML and again I'd ask you to apply for the Template Editor right. Cabayi (talk) 09:14, 22 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Elegie Thank you for reducing the image resolution. I have one question. I tried to use this image for spanish version of Belize Bird Rescue with no luck. What I'm doing wrong? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mik013 (talkcontribs) 03:53, 1 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Mik013: According to this page, the Spanish Wikipedia does not allow local uploads of images. As such, Spanish Wikipedia pages can only use images that are hosted on Wikimedia Commons. Due to its nature, Wikimedia Commons only accepts freely licensed content. The English Wikipedia, on the other hand, allows local uploads of non-free content (material that is copyrighted and not freely licensed) such as the Belize Bird Rescue logo in limited circumstances. --Elegie (talk) 07:47, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

OK @Elegie thank you very much for detailed explanation. The question is, what reall can I (we) do? Author of the English article (and owner of the logo) is friend of mine asked me for a help. As you can see, even uploading the logo was not as easy task.. So what are our optiones? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mik013 (talkcontribs) 18:02, 4 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Template editor granted

[edit]

Your account has been granted the "templateeditor" user permission, allowing you to edit templates and modules that have been protected with template protection. It also allows you to bypass the title blacklist, giving you the ability to create and edit editnotices. Before you use this user right, please read Wikipedia:Template editor and make sure you understand its contents. In particular, you should read the section on wise template editing and the criteria for revocation.

You can use this user right to perform maintenance, answer edit requests, and make any other simple and generally uncontroversial edits to templates, modules, and edinotices. You can also use it to enact more complex or controversial edits, after those edits are first made to a test sandbox, and their technical reliability as well as their consensus among other informed editors has been established. If you are willing to process edit requests on templates and modules, keep in mind that you are taking responsibility to ensure the edits have consensus and are technically sound.

This user right gives you access to some of Wikipedia's most important templates and modules; it is critical that you edit them wisely and that you only make edits that are backed up by consensus. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Hey there! Thanks so much for your excellent work contributing to updating compatible links to HTTPS - I was wondering if you were interested in collaborating on the list KolbertBot uses so these changes could be made more easily on other language projects as well. Jon Kolbert (talk) 03:48, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Jon Kolbert: Your feedback is appreciated. At this time, I am not sure about contributing to the list used by KolbertBot. It would be of interest to me to know how the list is generated and what would be involved in contributing to the list. In the meantime, the following information may be of interest for finding HTTP links that can be converted to HTTPS links. A technique that I have used is to access a link and see if the link generates an HTTP 301 (Moved Permanently) redirect or even an HTTP 302 (Found) redirect to an HTTPS URL. A situation can sometimes arise where a link generates a chain of redirects. This tool can be used to analyze multiple URLs and to view redirect chains. The history of my edits to WP templates may indicate instances of URLs that can be changed from HTTP to HTTPS. Another project that may be of interest is the browser extension HTTPS Everywhere. --Elegie (talk) 08:51, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Jon Kolbert: If you find the above information to be useful, please let me know. Thanks. --Elegie (talk) 06:07, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sure thing. I'll look into it in the morning. KolbertBot itself doesn't do anything other than replace the links using regex. Determining which links are appropriate to move to HTTPS is all done "by hand" before being added to the list. httpstatus.io is definitely a useful tool that I will make good use of, I hadn't heard of it before. Jon Kolbert (talk) 07:12, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Jon Kolbert: This description of establishing that an HTTP URL would work with HTTPS instead may be of interest. --Elegie (talk) 06:40, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Upcoming changes to wikitext parsing

[edit]

Hello,

There will be some changes to the way wikitext is parsed during the next few weeks. It will affect all namespaces. You can see a list of pages that may display incorrectly at Special:LintErrors. Since most of the easy problems have already been solved at the English Wikipedia, I am specifically contacting tech-savvy editors such as yourself with this one-time message, in the hope that you will be able to investigate the remaining high-priority pages during the next month.

There are approximately 10,000 articles (and many more non-article pages) with high-priority errors. The most important ones are the articles with misnested tags and table problems. Some of these involve templates, such as infoboxes, or the way the template is used in the article. In some cases, the "error" is a minor, unimportant difference in the visual appearance. In other cases, the results are undesirable. You can see a before-and-after comparison of any article by adding ?action=parsermigration-edit to the end of a link, like this: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Arthur_Foss?action=parsermigration-edit (which shows a difference in how {{infobox ship}} is parsed).

If you are interested in helping with this project, please see Wikipedia:Linter. There are also some basic instructions (and links to even more information) at https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-ambassadors/2018-April/001836.html You can also leave a note at WT:Linter if you have questions.

Thank you for all the good things you do for the English Wikipedia. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 21:18, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
