Stéphane (talk) 17:07, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

The two images are not the same. The AP image of Calment has her in a different vest. Besides, wouldn't the U.S. government tell us if they used an image from somewhere else? ~the editorofthewiki (talk/contribs/editor review)~ 21:28, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Those two images are the same. Here's the one you uploaded and here's the one from AP (after flipping, cropping & resizing). They're the same. Stéphane (talk) 00:48, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

I;ve found an image of her from around 1895 Image:JeanneCalmentaged20.jpg which must be public domain by now. But it isn't the same as showing her at 122 years old which is why she is notable. There is an image of her on flickr taken by a user which looks as if it doesn't have AP or press agency rights. She is smoking in it. I;d suggest you contact the uploadeder at flickr and request permission to use the image. However the image is small so I have doubts on whether the uploader took it. Count Blofeld 22:29, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

If I'm honest, I don't think the ones on Flickr are free, apart from the obvious public domain ones. We can use the younger image of her. Or just stick with the fair-use image. If there's no free one of her as an adult, there's nothing we can do. – How do you turn this on (talk) 22:37, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

I have to agree too (unfortunately). It looks like an obvious AP photo to me. I've uploaded some expired ones but I know its not the same. The best thing we can do is formally request permission to use an image of her old. I've uploaded Image:JeanneCalmentaged22.jpg so its not as if there aren't any images but finding a free old image of her is not easy given that many sites use images in this way. Nepal VDCs all started

4000 new article started. Initial job done. Now all the maps and coordinates need adding and fixing thwe towns//village to Village Developement Committee. The increasing amount of information at a local level online seems to be gradually improving. Some of the online PDF files seem to be getting quite detailed for some local areas. I'm sure they will all be expanded eventually. Problem is in many places I;ve found the 1991 population data dated. I looked at marriage and literacy details a minute ago and it said things like 4900 people literate etc, 4,000 illiterate etc for 2001 and the 1991 census claims 4100 people! Moumouni and French

EOTW, I just noticed your comments at the GA review of Moumouni, and I wanted to let you know, I have some French...I can read and translate some texts, not others, it just depends on how jargon-y they are. I probably won't have much free time during the next month or so, but after that if you ever need someone to take a look at something you're free to shoot me a message. Best, —Politizer talk/contribs 23:39, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Oh wow, that's a lot of stuff! This probably isn't something I can do a whole lot of work on just now, as I'm already pretty swamped with real-life work that I'm not getting done quickly enough (darn this wiki!) but I will try to gradually work my way through it. Thanks for the links! —Politizer talk/contribs 02:54, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

DYK for Basile Adjou Moumouni

BorgQueen (talk) 00:12, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

I;ve expanded the Moumouni article a little. It really is terribly to difficult to write about something like a Beninese physician in great detail. A google search shows up only 10 hits and google books ans scholar even less. I daresay there is more information on him somewhere in a book in French, probably quite a lot, or a lot of information from the journals he has published on the nature of his work etc. If we can make it as comprehensive as possible this will stand a better chance. I;ve tried to balance out coverage of his life. I've also left two links on the talk page that may contain something useful. The Bald One White cat 11:26, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Maplandia. At present though I'm about to start the Communes of Benin. Villages within them can come later. The Bald One White cat 17:43, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

All of the villages in Benin are listed with coordinates/satellite maps I think. Only falut I can see is that they are still using the old Benin department structure rather than the newer one The Bald One White cat 17:56, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Yup, it now at 209,000 in 5 more edits time The Bald One White cat 20:46, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Well, even with 209,000 I get the impression few people are really grateful for my presence on here. Some editors have no idea that I write articles as well. Some people see high edit counts as just a figure, I'm sure some people don't even stop to think how it may have actually changed this encyclopedia! I rarely get somebody stopping by to say thanks Blofeld, but it is always welcome when they do. Usually when a stranger stops by it is either a complaint or rude comment about something or something to be deleted. The Bald One White cat 20:55, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Anyway I'm not here to be thanked, I'm here to build wikipedia, but I always appreciate a word to show that people do actually notice every now and again! Hey I;ve created a new map for Benin, the old one was doing my head in! The Bald One White cat 21:06, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

What, making a DYK-worthy article on the park? It's possible...there are not many Caribbean DYK articles, as I recall. Or if you want to collaborate on another subject, I am open. I'm actually on an Oscar Micheaux kick and filling in the template on his films (too many redlinks for my liking). Re:Re: Portal:Angola

Thanks, and Happy New Year!!! Shooke (talk) 18:48, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Sorry for the slow response. I'd say the quote from the secret service ref'd at 17 from Keese should be more like: "Wanting and believing himself to be sincerely democratic, to the point that no accusation irritated him more than that of being a dictator, [M'ba] nevertheless did not stop until he achieved a constitution giving him practically all power and reducing the parliament to the role of a costly decoration that could be discarded if need be." I have to admit that the precise translation of "il n'en a pas moins eu de cesse que" has me a bit stumped through! Perhaps you could take it to the languages helpdesk?
There's nothing on the webpage for ref 23 (the France Inter one) that supports what it is supposed to cover (M'Ba whipping passersby etc). The page is only a blurb for a programme transmitted over a year ago, but I can't see anything to suggest that the programme can be streamed off this site. Do you know what the intent was with this ref?
I think those are the only two online French language refs. 4u1e (talk) 20:01, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Sorry - should have given you the link: Language reference desk. I think we have the sense right, but someone can probably come up with a more strictly accurate translation. Perhaps "Wanting and believing himself to be sincerely democratic, to the point that no accusation irritates him more than that of being a dictator, [M'ba] nevertheless will not stop until he achieves a constitution giving him practically all power and reducing the parliament to the role of a costly decoration that can be discarded if need be."
Regarding the radio transmission, provided you're happy the recording supports the text, then fair enough.
Have I missed anything? There's probably a lot of useful stuff in ref 17, but that's a rather open-ended task. Cheers. 4u1e (talk) 12:57, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
Eh?! No - I don't have the books, so other than confirming that their titles seem appropriate (they do) there is nothing I can do. Am I missing something? 4u1e (talk) 23:35, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
Ah, I see what you mean. Sorry, but no. That's rather more of a time-commitment than I can make even for the articles I choose to work on, let alone as a favour for an article I've got no particular interest in. I'd happily have a look at relevant bits if you scanned and e-mailed them, though. Cheers. 4u1e (talk) 23:43, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
Understood. Good luck. 4u1e (talk) 00:15, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

(Moving to new section)

So what can we focus on next? Bam is honestly going to take a while, I think we should get at least a Good topic with earthquakes in iran, making the title an FL. Let's try and improve 1997 Qayen and Ardabil. I'll go through both. Ceran →(cheerchime →carol) 14:36, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Hello

LOL. Thanks, have a great New Year too! Luckily I have a full head of hair (receding though), I'm just thinking what it would like to actually be completely bald. Hope you had a good break, The Bald One White cat 14:29, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

25. Oh I have a good head of hair, quite thick actually, won't go fully bald for many years to come I don't think. I just have a high forehead so my hairline is kind of M-shaped.

I saw somebodies message somehwere about developing earthquake articles to GA. Are you still interested in working on the Bam article? The Bald One White cat 14:37, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I've started a review of the Drum article to see if it meets the GA criteria. The article is very short - it gives very little detail; there are issues with the writing and the layout. It will not pass GA in its current state. The question is should it be withdrawn now and let you work on improving it in your own time, or should it be given the 7 day hold to address the issues. My feeling is that there needs to be so much work done to bring the article up to standard of, say Quantum of Solace, that you would need assistance from members of the Film Project. I'll be looking more closely at the article and giving some more feedback. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Regards SilkTork *YES! 20:37, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

I have put the assessment on hold for seven days to allow progress to be made on the Cast and Production sections and to see what critical responses you are able to find to add the article. I have indicated examples of Start, B and GA standard articles for comparison. If you need some assistance or advice on building the article let me know, and I'll see what I can do. Regards SilkTork *YES! 16:52, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
