InsideNorthside - A North Minneapolis Encyclopedia

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you've edited some articles related to North Minneapolis and I wanted to tell you about a project I'm involved in called InsideNorthside. It's basically a wikipedia for North Minneapolis, built on wikispaces (which is a bit more user-friendly then mediawiki, though not nearly as robust). Anyways, wanted you to know. I'm trying to find some wiki experts to help build an initial user base for the site. Check it out and let me know what you think. http://insidenorthside.org —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ariahfine (talkcontribs) 01:14, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Dickerman Park

[edit]
Updated DYK query On August 31, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Dickerman Park, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

A tag has been placed on Islamic Relief USA, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Tagging articles as paid

[edit]

Hi! I see you've proposed deletion of Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics and Health Care Compliance Association. Thank you for doing so!

A) There's no requirement to enable Twinkle on your account. But, if you do, it can handle PRODs, and notifying article creators, semi-automatically for you.

B) Twinkle can also semi-automatically tag articles with {{notability}} and {{undisclosed paid}}. When I nominate an article for PROD or CSD, I often add both tags. In case my deletion nomination fails, at least readers and editors might now know that the article may be a paid puff piece.

Cheers, —Unforgettableid (talk) 23:34, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestion, @Unforgettableid:. I don't venture into the deletion policy area very much and it's been many years since I suggested a PROD so I'm unfamiliar with the best tools to use. I would appreciate your insight on what to do with this pair of articles.
I would assume it's best to bring Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics to AFD now. Is it best to revert Health Care Compliance Association to a previously poorly referenced version, then re-propose PROD or directly submit to AFD? I'm pinging @AllyD: too because they removed the PROD and reverted the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics article to a previous version. - Eóin (talk) 14:23, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Eóin: No worries! I think it'd be best to leave Health Care Compliance Association as-is for now. I hope your PROD will succeed. —Unforgettableid (talk) 15:56, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Andersen Corporation

[edit]

Hi again!

It's thoughtful of you to have put in all that effort on cleaning up Andersen Corporation. But the real root cause of the problem is not just any puffery which exists now. Perhaps the real root cause of the problem is that there are too few watchers. Even if you remove puffery now, more puffery will probably appear and remain in the future.

I've been around for more than a decade, and my watchlist is a bit of a disaster; I usually tend not to watch it.

Permanent semi-protection might help; but the semi-protection policy is a bit strict. I suspect the paid editing is too infrequent to make permanent semi-protection an option.

I'm curious why you want the Andersen article kept. I think Wikipedia would still be a reasonable encyclopedia even without it. In my opinion, we have more important things to do than keep a close eye on the Andersen article.

Cheers, —Unforgettableid (talk) 00:37, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's unfortunate that it possible for puffery to reappear and stick around for too long. Ultimately, I don't think too few watchers is a valid reason to delete an article. I think that's just the nature of some articles with specialized/local interest. For example, I used to frequently edit high school articles and they are especially prone to vandalism and have few regular watchers. While I'm able to easily look through my watchlist I've built over the last 10 years, I've regularly gone for long stretches without editing so close supervision of articles like this is not guaranteed. I agree that semi-protection is unlikely. When I look at the article history, I see two large incidents of promotional editing, one of which was relatively quickly cleaned up (certainly not to ideal standards) in September 2014 and the most recent which has stuck around for the last two years. I don't think two egregious incidents in 12 years justifies deleting an article I believe to be notable.
My interest in keeping the Andersen article is because it's a very large company in the Twin Cities area and I frequently see new stories on TV and in the paper. I've never used their products and I likely never will, but the frequent number of times I see them discussed in regional media show me it's notable enough for a Wikipedia article. It's unfortunate the company or employees seem to have been encouraging paid, promotional editing, but I don't think that justifies removing the article. -Eóin (talk) 14:59, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Metro A Line), and it may be added to the statistics page if it received over 400 views per hour. Question about a photo

[edit]

Greetings, Eóin. I wonder if you would give me your opinion about the use of a picture of North Commons Park in Minneapolis Neighborhoods. I always liked it but received an objection I can't explain. It's been around for more than a decade. Thanks either way. -SusanLesch (talk) 21:07, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Another approach that might work. Can you come up with a different photo that says "neighborhoods of Minneapolis" that I could swap in place of North Commons Park? No rush, we have until January 2023 when featured article review will begin. Overnight I was reminded of some excellent advice I got earlier this year, to just let this editor have his way with images. Then we'll sort this out in January or February. Best wishes. -SusanLesch (talk) 14:55, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
From Flickr, would any one of these be better?
They'd probably all have to have the same caption (...one of the 83 neighborhoods of Minneapolis). -SusanLesch (talk) 22:21, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
