Books
Please give a little more information about the books for which you are creating stubs: you don't specify whether they are fact or fiction, or who published them, and in some cases like The Tin Scratchers there is more information about the book at Ion_Idriess#1945_to_1969 than there is in the new stub. The reader would be better served by a redirect from the title to the author's article. Thanks. PamD 15:41, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for your work
Lately, I've seen your work in expanding film articles on my watchlist pretty often, so I wanted to leave a note thanking you for this. A lot of these are pretty obscure films that don't get much attention, so it's great to see someone who's willing to find sources. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 20:24, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Oz Movies
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Oz Movies requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. noq (talk) 12:48, 2 May 2016 (UTC)

PLEASE!!!
Make an effort to learn how to do references properly. Do not simply throw everything into the hyperlink. Put the author's name first, library style (Last name, First name), then the date of publication in parentheses, then the title which should be the only thing in the hyperlink!, then the place of publication followed by the publisher. Put the page number next, then the ISBN. Like this:
- Sedgwick, Jon (2000) [url_here Popular Filming in 1930s Britiain: A Choice of Pleasures] Exeter: University of Exeter Press. p.46 ISBN 9780859896603
If you want to, use templates such as cite book, cite web, or cite news. You can cut and paste these into the ref and simply fill in the fields.
Your edits add good information to articles, but I'm getting a bit tired of cleaning up your poor referencing. Please start doing this yourself, don't make me take you to the noticeboards. Remember that competence is required to edit Wikipedia. Thanks, BMK (talk) 17:16, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

. Laser brain (talk) 14:56, 8 July 2016 (UTC)- Hi, I'm very sorry if this message seems alarming but I came here after seeing you add several very badly formatted, almost garbage citations to articles. To the point that I can't even figure out what you're citing. This is very disruptive, causes a lot of work for other editors, and the damage needs to stop now. The block is indefinite but it can be lifted if you show that you can engage your fellow editors about the concerns they have been expressing for months now. You need to learn how to edit properly, or you won't be allowed to edit. --Laser brain (talk) 14:58, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

Request reason:
I would like to appeal this blocking. I recognise that I can improve the quality of my citations, which can sometimes be neglected in my enthusiasm to make contributions to articles. This comes from a good place, not a malicious one. I always endeavour to never be tendentious, to always satisfy Wikipedia criteria, to never engage in disruptive cite-tagging, and to engage in consensus building. I recognise the frustration some of my acts have given to some editors but I do derive enjoyment from my involvement in Wikipedia and believe I have made - and can continue to make - a contribution to the site that is of use to its readers. Yours, respectfully. Dutchy85 (talk) 09:16, 16 July 2016 (UTC)
Decline reason:
You'd been given ample warning regarding your references. It's not fair to making others clean up your mess. OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:53, 16 July 2016 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
Dutchy85 (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
If I undertake to cite in the proper style from this point on and to respond to editors concerns within a reasonable time frame, can the block be overturned? I do believe I have a contribution to make to Wikipedia and have created and expanded on a large number of significant articles which I believe are of use to the Wikipedia users, particularly on the Australian and British film industries. I will also endeavour to clean up those references I have already put in. Even Beyoind My Ken pointed out "your edits add good information to articles". Or let me know if there's anything else I can do.
Accept reason:
You're unblocked on the basis that you will cite in the proper style from now on and be responsive to editors concerns. PhilKnight (talk) 22:34, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
@Laser brain:- would you object to an unblock? PhilKnight (talk) 23:10, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

Dutch, do you really want some help in formatting reference sources? I have a past career history of being a librarian for 30+ years and can help. Let's look at one of your citations to start. Here's your "take": Neely, D. (1967, Jan 16). Hathaway fed up with hefty extras. Los Angeles Times (1923-Current File) Retrieved from http://search.proquest.com/docview/155669816?accountid=13902.
The first thing all reference sources, regardless of the format chosen. will need, is to identify some basic elements. These can be summarized as: Author, Title, Publisher (and date, source of publication). The author(s) appear in alphabetical order by the main noun (last name first), so the author is correct: Neely, D. The title in this case is: "Hathaway fed up with beefy extra." (Note: the title of a periodical or journal is written in "sentence form: first word capitalized, the rest in non-caps, ended with a period, exclamation mark or other.) The actual publication in this case is Los Angeles Times (Note: use the full and correct title of a publisher, e.g. The New York Times, not "NYT" or "New York Times", and written in italics to differentiate from the title.) All notations (called tracings in reference sources) in the reference line would be set apart by periods (or full stops).
Depending on the style you will use, for example, the Modern Language Association (MLA) Style Guide (the most common style guide for literary works in the Humanities, such as reviews), the date either appears in the publishing tracings or associated with the author as in the American Psychological Association (APA) Style Guide, used primarily in the Sciences). The citation would then read: Neely, D. (January 16, 1967). "Hathaway fed up with hefty extras". Los Angeles Times. in APA, or Neely, D. "Hathaway fed up with hefty extras". Los Angeles Times, January 16, 1967. (Note: in all cases, dates are fully written out in sentence form.) Now, go to the article and make changes. BTW, the use of the proquest.com website would be discouraged as it is not easily accessible without an account.
If you are interested, I will also give you the Referencing 101 examples for how to make a proper Harvard Citation, Citation for a book entry and a creating a bibliographical source list. See: Another Dawn where you had originated the article and had incorporated some unusual referencing styles, and the recent, subsequent re-edit.
FYI, referencing using "standard" formatting is not "rocket science" and is easy to learn, with the residual benefits of making your life and those of other editors, much more pleasant. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 14:17, 20 July 2016 (UTC) Thanks for this! Is there a preferred style for Wikipedia, is it Harvard, APA or MLA? Seems to vary Dutchy85 (talk) 21:59, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
- There are no prescribed styles but there are citation mavens who use one style or other. I gravitate to a combination of Harvard Citation for citations (Author date, p.) along with formatting the Bibliography using the MLA guide, since most of the articles I write are in the Humanities (Social Science, History, Literature) and can be read as: Author. Title. Place of Publication: Publisher, Date. (with the option of including the ISBN or International Standard Book Number, an industry guide to the publishing information and is now standardized as ISBN: 13). FWiW Bzuk (talk) 03:23, 21 July 2016 (UTC)
Still the same issues. Here are some handy tips:
- Do not use all caps, even if that is what the original source uses.
- Do not "bury" the author note, start the reference citation with it.
- Only give the publisher information, not additional notations as to location unless it is necessary, e.g. Los Angeles Times does not need to have the added notation of "(Los, Angeles, California)".
- Give full date notations, not an abbreviation: e.g. "March", not "Mar".
- Even if the date is given in the source as "09", use "9" instead, and be careful to give international date standards (dmy) for international topics, e.g. "9 March 1937" and mdy for North American subjects: e.g. "March 9, 1937". FWiW Bzuk (talk) 13:15, 23 July 2016 (UTC) Hi Buzuk - thanks so much for cleaning these up. The references you changed were mainly I think ones I put up before I undertook to lift my game in this area - the exception being the Bawden/Miller reference which I put up in the body of the references (as opposed to the way you did it) because I only did one reference to the book. (Also I couldn't find the ISBN on the copy I had.) Appreciate everything you did - just wanted to say I have been taking feedback on board and am not ignoring editors concerns. :)Dutchy85 (talk) 22:08, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

Angels in the Outfield (1951 film) question
Hi Dutchy85, I have a question about the financial results for Angels in the Outfield (1951 film).
According to your edit citing a source, the film grossed $1,666,000 and its budget was $1,081,000 — how, then, did the film have a loss of $177,000 instead of a profit of $585,000? Please clarify. Thanks JGHowes talk 14:26, 5 September 2016 (UTC) Normally there are distribution and advertising costs i.e. overhead added to the profitability of the film. These figures were taken directly from the ledger. The cost is the specific cost of the film but then the studio would add overhead. Dutchy85 (talk) 03:15, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Jackfork. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Walter Hill (director) without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Jackfork (talk) 11:17, 4 November 2016 (UTC) Oh I was sandboxing really - sorry! I was just shifting the text to the body of the document.Dutchy85 (talk) 11:25, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
