We run into eachother again it seems!

[edit]

And i am truly sorry that i come crashing in with yet another CSD template. I know that this is by no means the best way to start a day at Wikipedia, with people wandering in with all kinds of "This isnt right, that is not done well!" messages. Please rest assured that i (As can most people) can see from your contributions that you are doing just fine, and that these templates should not be taken as some form of negative criticism. In fact, about 50% of the new articles ends up getting removed, though that includes empty articles and pure vandalism.

Apart from this, you seem to be doing a fine job on the most wanted articles section. If you like working in that particular section (There are actually a whole lot of sections. personally i really like WP:NPP WP:GEO and WP:SPAM, with WP:NPP being the reason why we met twice :-) ) you might also be interested in WP:AR1 and WP:RA, both sections that also contain requests for articles.

With kind regards as ever, and happy editing to you! Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 21:54, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Tinny Tim.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tinny Tim.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:15, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Journal For Plague Lovers

[edit]

I've undone the redirect you did. My understanding is that once an article is at Articles for Deletion, we're supposed to leave the article in place (with exception of improvement edits of course) until the discussion has completed and final decision has been reached. The AfD template itself seems to back this up as it says: "Feel free to edit the article, but the article must not be blanked, and this notice must not be removed, until the discussion is closed." Thanks alot for ur welcome message. I am indeed looking forward to working within the scope of WikiProject Egypt. I have already been working extensively in the Yom Kippur War. That article had, I think, at the time I started editing no Egyptian sources whatsoever. After several months editing I have added added a plethora of new info, corrected wrong info, and added alot of Egyptian sources. Up until now, nearly 16,700 bytes of info has been added, and I intend to add still alot more. I have also done considerable work on the related article on the Egyptian Crossing. I'd really appreciate ur help with this article and the help of other users on WikiProject Egypt.

There is also another article, Women in Egypt, which I think needs a serious makeover, but right now I can't really contribute to it because of my current priority.

Once again, thank u very much for ur welcome message Diaa. Sherif9282 (talk) 16:48, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, thank you for reviewing my request for List of counties in Missouri at peer review, your comments were quite helpful. The only thing I am having problems with is adding the caption to {{Missouri County Labelled Map}}. The template on List of counties in Alabama, which you linked to, has a caption, but uses a different format. All of the other maps on "List of counties in X" articles that use the same format as Missouri do not have a caption, so I am not sure how to proceed. Tahia Kazem

[edit]

Should we have an article on her? I think I have enough info for a simple start-rated article. What do you think? Also, I'm kind of ignorant on the subject outside of the USA, but what do you call the wife of Egypt's president? The First Lady of Egypt? --Al Ameer son (talk) 01:48, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh, I was wondering why she kept her maiden name. I didn't know that was the usual practice back then. Thanks for clarifying. Now, concerning notability, I didn't think she was notable enough to have her own article because most sources say she mostly kept out of the public eye and concentrated on house-making, very traditional. However, I wanted to see whether or nor Egypt was into that First Lady business back then because I think that would warrant an article. Nonetheless, the source I am using is Women in Egyptian Public Life by Earl L. Sullivan. From pages 84 to 86, he gives a pretty decent bio on her and it's certainly enough for an article. If you can't read it fully, just tell me and I'll list points on a draft article for you to judge. --Al Ameer son (talk) 01:22, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Could you double-check what year Nasser was wounded in the demonstration. Right now there's two instances in the Early life section where we mention he was lightly wounded in a demonstration. I put it was in 1936 (that's what Aburish writes; he says some sources claim he joined Young Egypt in 1933), while you put 1933. I'm not sure which one is correct that's I want to make sure your source says 1933. If it does, then we will have to look to other sources for further clarification. One more thing, do you have any source that lists when Nasser's children were born? The only one missing is Abdel Hakim, but it would be better if we use a single source listing all of their births. --Al Ameer son (talk) 02:55, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ne-Yo discography FLC

[edit]

Hi, Diaa. Please don't take this the wrong way -- I'm not looking to bullying you into changing your stance, I'm just looking to understand it. 3 days ago you supported Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Ne-Yo discography/archive1 to be promoted to FL based on all your concerns being resolved; however, a day later I reviewed and pointed out poor prose, unreferenced items, references that point to the wrong pages, etc etc. Then yesterday you asked a question related to a different matter, but stated that your support still stands. When I've presented important issues that are required by the WP:FL?, and you can see that they haven't been fixed, why would you knowingly support something that doesn't meet the criteria. As I said, I'm not trying to pressure you into changing your opinion, I just don't understand. Best, Matthewedwards :  Chat  14:29, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

well the prose has been copy-edited by dabomb, the referencing issues have been sorted and the other issues matthewedwards pointed out have been sorted. but the nomination was closed, so on the recommendation of the closer i have re-nominated the article. so i would be greatful if you would pop by and take a look? thanks. and that comment didnt sound like it was trying to be influential at all.... A couple things

[edit]

Marhaba Diaa, I am sorry to inform you that I will be more or less away from Wikipedia for the next couple months, but I will continue to work on Nasser as much as I am able to. So right now I just want to get a few points clarified and to update you on other Egypt-related articles.

  • We need the birth year of Abdel Hamid and if possible (this part is not necessary, but helpful), a couple bits of info on Abdel Hamid and Abdel Hakim Abdel Nasser.
  • The family section could still be beefed up a little and the death section should also be expanded so please add any available info to those areas.
  • The last real load of editing is the Legacy section. There are plenty of available sources for this and whenever you are ready to scratch the surface there, I'll try to pitch in.
  • Do you think we should replace the image of Nasser with three of the Free Officers (Amer, Boghdadi, and Salem) with an image of Nasser and all of the Free Officers found here.
  • Now, some non-Nasser news, please check out the new al-Azhar Mosque article created by Nableezy. It looks great and I really think it could attain Good and very possibly Featured status. It would be great if you could give some criticism at the talk page to further improve the article. Salam akhi, --Al Ameer son (talk) 01:05, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Abdel Nasser update

[edit]

Marhaba Diaa! Could you check out the article now. I wrote up a lead, cleaned up and fleshed out the Death and Legacy sections, and copyeditted most of the article. I also added some stuff to the Ancestry section. The only thing I see left really is citing the birth dates of Nasser's children. Anyhow, what do you think the next major step should be: good article nomination or peer review. I don't know if you're active anymore, but if you are please reply as soon as possible. I've been very busy the past months because of university... really takes time away... I'm going on vacation tomorrow till monday... I've been monitoring the changes and they're really great... I'm very impressed. I feel the article is still missing some information like when did Nasser receive his first official role as vice chairman of the RCC and when did that end? The infobox needs expansion to include the different roles he had before becoming president and after. Prime minister, Vice chairman of RCC....--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 23:14, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the speedy reply! Great suggestions too. I'll try to find some of that information and will expand the infobox. The latter will hopefully be taken care of by the time you come back. But just so I know, are we gonna go for a peer review or a GAN? --Al Ameer son (talk) 00:07, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
GAN is very slow and might take months before the first review. I thought we would go directly to FA, but before that check for peer review by the military history project... What do u think ? All the work that has been done serves the comprehensiveness... although I find the article still lacking a bit in that... (The military career, nationalization of the suez canal, Legacy, family) The legacy section mostly supports Nasser. We need part of it to represent his opponents and shows the western and Arab world views. Nasser is most credited for the Aswan Dam, the Suez Canal, the agrarian reforms and the socialist system. We have to include some of their lasting benefits, with actual data and long term benefits, in the legacy section. Also, how about having a section contrasting him with Sadat, since their policies are the complete opposite and their names are inseparable. 2/3 of the Later life section is about the war of attrition... so why not have it labeled partly that way? I'll be away, so I'll see your reply when I return. Tell me what you think.--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 08:25, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • First, I have no problem with going directly to the FA process, but is there a more specific project, perhaps one centered on politics, that we could go to instead of the military history one?
I guess just going for Peer review is what should be done... The military history project is the most active Wikiproject on Wikipedia, that's why I suggested it...--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 07:38, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • About the military career: None of the books I've come across mention in detail his actual combat experience besides the Falluja episode. However, Walid Khalidi's book on the depopulated Palestinian villages has numerous tid-bits of info on Nasser's service in Palestine as well as quotes from Nasser during the war.
Nasser wrote in his own book a lot about his involvement in the war. I'll try getting it on Sunday.--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 07:38, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I will leave the Suez Canal nationalization work to you because I really cannot produce much information from Aburish regarding the planning of Nasser's operation and additional background. Aburish mostly concentrates on foreign policy as the reasoning behind the event.
I'll gather info from the books available. You can see what the library contains here I have access to all of the books in the search. Also to Jstor and lexis nexis...--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 07:38, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree that the Family section needs more info. Besides birth dates, is there any additional info you think we should add that's also possible to obtain?
The list should be changed to prose, since it has no chance in FA. I'll look for info about their achievements. If none, then just writing their names and birth dates separated by commas should be sufficient.--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 07:38, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I feared this would happen when I wrote up the Legacy section. Anyhow, adding more on the views of his detractors in Egypt and the West should be easy. Statistics about Aswan and the Suez Canal should be easy as well. However, I have yet to run into anything about the legacy of his agrarian and socialist reforms. Do you have a source that I could use?
I'll look for them...
  • Information on the contrast between Nasser and Sadat is available; as a matter of fact, one of the sources I used for the Legacy section (al-Ahram) was basically an article on the two men's differences. Of course there should be plenty of info in book sources as well. Before I write up a section, I might prepare a rough draft in my user space.
  • I'll rename the section now.

I'll continue work tomorrow, but there are some points above that I need replies to first. Have a wonderful time on your trip! Regards, --Al Ameer son (talk) 09:13, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

FLC List of National Treasures of Japan (paintings)

[edit]

Hi Diaa abdelmoneim! I re-nominated List of National Treasures of Japan (paintings) at FLC after the previous nomination failed due to a lack of reviews. The list has virtually not changed since then. I'd be happy if you could comment/vote on the list once more over here. Thanks. bamse (talk) 09:32, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I saw another editor removed the image added to this article. Looking on the net it seems that this [1] is what the gun actually looks like. Is there a way to delete the image so that it doesn't confuse anyone? Happy New Year. I hope everything is going well for you. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:26, 5 January 2010 (UTC)][reply]

Re:Gamal Abdel Nasser

[edit]

Sounds good to me. The article certainly deserves a better rating than the current one. Plus, my time here has been very limited recently and probably will continue to be for a the next month, maybe 2 months. Therefore, I don't know how much time I could spend contributing to the article anyway. Of course if you need anything specific, please ask ;) Cheers akhi! --Al Ameer son (talk) 01:25, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats to you too! What's the next step here? Some improvements then A-class review? --Al Ameer son (talk) 16:04, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have reviewed Gamal Abdel Nasser and placed it on hold for up to seven days with concerns. You can see my review here: Talk:Gamal Abdel Nasser/GA1. Canadian Paul 03:40, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A good step in the FA direction might be to get an A-class review from the Military History Wikipedia project. It's like getting a GA review from numerous people who know more about the FA criteria and who try to prepare the article as such. You'll get much more out of that than from any one person, whether or not it passes. Canadian Paul 16:53, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
