Hello there!

Dravidian

[edit]
  • Dravidian is a term used by the western scholars to identify languages spoken in south India and some parts of central and eastern India. It was also used by the westerners to refer to a race of unidentified affiliation. The Indian scholars(Mainstream Hindu,Jain,Buddhist,Brahminical) on the other hand have never used the term Dravaida to mean a race, but in Pali it was used to refer to the Tamil language and perhaps early Cholas(Mentioned as Damila,in Mahavamso, the Srilankan Pali chronicle).Dravida is also a tribe and language mentioned in Sanskrit scriptures. The term now is used by both western and Indian scholars just to mean south Indian language family.

Tandula

[edit]

In the article Konkani language its mistakenly mentioned that the word tandula in Sanskrit is of Dravidian origin.Other the other hand the word Tandula as per many is of Austric origin.(Cultural History of India - Page 439,Proceedings - Indian History Congress - Volume 65 - Page 50,Indian Linguistics - Volume 50 - Page 7,Economy and Food in Ancient India: Food - Page 395 etc)

Drvaidian origin

[edit]

The rest of the words are undoubtadly are of Dravidian origin, which were accepted by Prakrit speakers or may be its the Substratum.[1]

Hi, we wrote in article Solapuri Chaddar that in English it means "Solapuri Bed sheet" as TIMES OF INDIA news also translated it as "Bed sheet", but is it really a "bed sheet" or "blanket", because "Chaddar" is not used as "Bed sheet", I think "chaddar" is used as "Blanket". While "Sataranjee" is used as "Bed sheet". What you say? Is it "Bed sheet" or "Blanket"? Amazon.com also sales it as "Blanket". [1] --Human3015 knock knock • 12:20, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think Bedsheet is an appropriate term for "Chaddar" or "Chadar" Dongar Kathorekar (talk) 14:35, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Keralam/Kerala

[edit]

I'm really not convinced about this usage - seems to be a Malayalam transcription used in a single source. Thoughts? Cheers,  Philg88 talk 18:52, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes User:Philg88. Even im little confused about its usage but only not to attract anguish from editors having love for Kerala, i did only changed the wordings. However if "Keralam" term is just mentioned in a literature or historical text then it can be mentioned with neutrally elaborate essence in etymology and history sections Dongar Kathorekar (talk) 19:05, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
