How references work
[edit]Simple references
[edit]These require two parts;
- a)
Chzz is 98 years old.<ref> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref> He likes tea. <ref> [http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com Tea website] </ref>
- b) A section called "References" with the special code "{{reflist}}";
== References == {{reflist}}
(an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections)
To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:DinosaursLoveExistence/reftest and try it out.
Named references
[edit]Chzz was born in 1837. <ref name=MyBook> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref> Chzz lives in Footown.<ref name=MyBook/>
Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result.
Citation templates
[edit]You can put anything you like between <ref> and </ref>, but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;
Chzz has 37 Olympic medals. <ref> {{Citation | last = Smith | first = John | title = Olympic medal winners of the 20th century | publication-date = 2001 | publisher = [[Cambridge University Press]] | page = 125 | isbn = 0-521-37169-4 }} </ref>
Please see user:chzz/demo/citeref to see the result.
For more help and tips on that subject, see user:chzz/help/refs.
Ways to improve Bill Price (physicist)
[edit]Hi, I'm Modern.Jewelry.Historian. DinosaursLoveExistence, thanks for creating Bill Price (physicist)!
I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. FRS members get a pass to Wikipedia according to WP:PROF, but this still needs references to support claims about the importance of his work.
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. If you haven't contributed yet, we would appreciate you taking the time to add entries to our articles achievements list by the end of the month. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!
The article Attack on HMS Invincible has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Not sufficiently notable to have its own page. This article also contains information different to that in the one cited source. (In the one citation some claimed that "HMS Avenger shot it down" but the article states that, "The Royal Navy witnessed the Exocet missile running out of fuel and falling into the sea." I don't think it is worth merging this article with the HMS Invincible (R05) article in view of this inexplicable contradiction. Either the web page cited in this article is reliable or it is not. In any event the paragraph in the HMS Invincible (R05) page is more comprehensive and has better citations. It would make no sense to wiki-link this orphan article from the HMS Invincible (R05) article given the coverage of this incident there.

Speedy deletion nomination of Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 05:53, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
The article Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
A7 declined because it publishes a journal and has existed since 1988. Neither publishing a journal nor merely existing are credible claims to significance. I did not locate any significant sourcing about this organization on a search, only publications by them or citing them.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
