Hi
Can you pls explain the kind of references you need in this article?
Kbala1055 (talk) 12:31, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
- Certainly. If any of the information comes from books, newspapers, and magazines instead of from local knowledge, you could put that in as a source. For example, if there are any newspaper articles in the local paper that discuss the economy, you could use it as a source to improve that section. If the temples have been discussed in any scholarly works, that would be a source for that section. Right now there is no way to verify what is in the village other than going there ourselves and taking a look. --Diannaa (Talk) 17:13, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
Archived articles
Thanks very much for the kind words, Diannaa; I'm proof that fools rush in where angels fear to tread, and will try not to take on another humongous article till I have more editing experience (I've had an account for several years, but was bitten by the editing bug only recently and find moving commas around to be an acceptable substitute for true creativity :-)). I archived Iowa class battleship in January, and will move it today. Thanks for the heads-up, and happy new year! Wi2g 16:21, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Check a newbie copy-editor's work?
The backlog elimination drive suggests asking you to check over edits. If you could look at Declaratory Act and Association of the Representatives of Bunyoro-Kitara and let me know what you think of my changes, I'd be grateful. They're both ~700 word articles. Toronto election template
Hello. I notice that you've speedy deleted one of my templates for the 1980 Toronto election. You've also returned the basic information to the Ron Kanter page (which I appreciate), but I can't help but think I should explain my logic in having created in the first place.
There are several templates of this sort on Wikipedia, and they're often posted on multiple pages. (This particular template could be posted on the pages for Ron Kanter, Ying Hope, and the 1980 Toronto election; in fact, it was posted on the last of these pages until someone removed it not long ago). Storing this information in template form makes it easier to make changes, when and as necessary. It also takes up less space. Until now, no-one has objected to the existence of this information in template form.
I can't help but think the original speedy delete was the result of a misunderstanding; I certainly don't regard the existence of the template as controversial. Would you be willing to restore the template? CJCurrie (talk) 04:47, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, sure. Sorry about that; there was no way for me to know that the template had recently been removed from several articles and was therefore in use. --Diannaa (Talk) 04:52, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, and no problem. CJCurrie (talk) 05:58, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Your deletion of Linda Ravenscroft
I think the subject is at least as notable as many others here on wikipedia, and I was in the process of rewriting to make it less of an advertorial. Could I ask you to restore it to my userspace so that I may continue work on it there? Malleus Fatuorum 00:43, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, sure. That is a good idea. Notability might be an issue though. User:Malleus Fatuorum/Linda Ravenscroft --Diannaa (Talk) 00:47, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. I understand why you deleted it, given the style in which it was written, but I think I can save it and demonstrate notability. We'll see anyway. Malleus Fatuorum 00:50, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- I was not the first to delete it; Acroterion deleted it about 90 min ago as well. See you around. --Diannaa (Talk) 00:53, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- That explains why the version you restored wasn't quite the same as the version I was working on then. Staggering as it may seem I've never done this before; is there anything special I need to do when I recreate the article? Can I just move it from my userspace into mainspace? Malleus Fatuorum 01:14, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- If you do it as a WP:MOVE that would be best, as it gives a record of the edit history. Once you are done and satisfied that the article will survive in mainspace, you can tag the subpage for speedy with a {{db-u1}}. --Diannaa (Talk) 01:23, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- Ravenart has re-created the page, and it is already re-tagged for speedy. What now?? big sigh. Is yours ready yet? They are gonna salt it for sure so we might have to move fast. --Diannaa (Talk) 01:25, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- I have transferred your version into mainspace but it is still tagged for speedy. I am going to Worldcat to look for ISBNs.--Diannaa (Talk) 01:35, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Outline of bodybuilding
Hello, I'd like it to be noted that my article, outline of bodybuilding, was not a duplication, but rather an outline, of the subject. (see WP:OOK) Is there any way my work can be restored? Thanks Tarheel95 (talk) 14:37, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- I have put it up in user space for further work, but it is unlikely you will be able to come up with a totally new take on this subject, as we also have a super good article at List of weight training exercises. WP:GOCE January backlog
Wow, Diannaa! I see you done 91 articles and over 15,000 words on this month's backlog! That's a lot! At least you're a good copy editor on large articles. WAYNESLAM 01:49, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Why don't you give one a try, Wayne? I noticed that you stopped working on an article because the first section was "too long". Remember to do what I do and take a break between sections. In case you come across large sections, such as in the article you gave up on, take breaks after copy editing a couple paragraphs. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 01:55, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- I'll work on it later but how does this look? WAYNESLAM 02:09, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Start paying attention in English class. ;) You might want to have a look at Wikipedia:Basic copyediting. That should have some good tips. Read it thoroughly, and if there are any linked pages that are associated with copy editing, read them, too. You may also want to read this page and the pages it links to. It's a lot of reading, but as long as it improves your copy editing skills, it's worth it. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 02:55, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- There are also links telling you how to improve your writing. WAYNESLAM 03:08, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, there are. We'll work on writing articles in February, after the drive is over. Although I haven't created many articles, I still have writing experience, as I have a Good article. We'll discuss this more at the end of this month. Now, let's focus on your copy editing skills. If you're in school, ask your English teacher to give you a couple extra lessons about proper grammar before or after school. Also remember to read the links about copy editing. You don't have to do this; I just recommend it. If you're not in school, then simply read the copy editing links. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 03:12, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- I'm good at grammar is that I have to learn it from Wikipedia's way. WAYNESLAM 03:35, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, Wayne. thank you for noticing how many articles I have worked on in the drive so far. One of the things I like to do during the drives is copy edit a lot of short articles as that helps keep the totals going down. I am also working on Clint Eastwood, which is, I think, the largest article I have ever worked on. It has been nominated for GA but there is no way it will pass in its present state, and it might not pass when I am finished. We shall see. With a huge article of this size, I usually only do one or two sections per day, as otherwise I start to get bored and don't do as good of a job. But it is surely possible to do a good job of copy editing an article of any size. You will know you are starting to be a good copy editor when you notice errors in magazines and newspapers that you read. --Diannaa (Talk) 04:34, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, Diannaa. It could happen in books, too, Diannaa. If you're confident that you may get it as a GA you may get it. You just never know until you find out. You may want to nominate articles that you copy edited for Did you knows A.K.A. DYKs if it meets the criteria. When did you start copy editing? WAYNESLAM 19:40, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- I started when I opened my Wikipedia account in October 2009; I chose to copy edit as it seemed a task I could help with that did not require a lot of knowledge of wiki mark-up, which I did not have at all when I started. I always had high marks in English in school and I read a lot, particularly non-fiction. I do not have any formal training for editing; I have been figuring it out as I go along. I started with small low-profile articles from the backlog and would usually check first in the edit history and on the talk page to make sure I wasn't wading in to a contentious article. Eventually I started doing larger and more important articles like Battle of Kursk, Korean War, Rajput, and Indiana class battleship. Some contentious ones I have worked on include biographies like Adi Da, Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, and Mayawati. I have been working on the Clint Eastwood article daily since December 31.--Diannaa (Talk) 20:52, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, you put it on the WP:GOCE January backlog. You make it look so easy even though it's not for me. I did try a large article but I have yet to finish it. I did not contribute much to November's backlog due to vandal fighting. WAYNESLAM 21:26, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- I love vandal fighting. I still do some every day. --Diannaa (Talk) 21:27, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

- I love it too. I used to vandal fight all day every day (afternoon to night on school days). Some users Huggle everyday. It's just like Jimmy Wales reading his article. Would you be surprised if Clint Eastwood edited his article? Wales has made a few edits to his article. WAYNESLAM 23:07, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I would be surprised if he edited it, but I would not be surprised if he read it. The GA reveiwers have arrived at the article now and they tell the author it is too long; there is a massive trimming going on right now. This does not surprise me; it was 153K and 15600 words when I started. --Diannaa (Talk) 23:11, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- It must be divided into sections, too. Are you helping them out? One of the articles that I didn't finish copy editing due to a large section has been edited by other users. WAYNESLAM 23:15, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for protecting the article on Locks Heath. Unfortunately you may have protected the wrong version, as there were several edits since the last repair by Osric Wuscfrea. Scillystuff (talk) 22:46, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- I Thought it was mandatory to protect the wrong version! :) But seriously, admins are not supposed to make a determination on the content and then protect the article. That would give the impression that a particular version is being viewed as official or preferred. I made a couple of minor fixes to the info box and that's all I'm gonna do. Since you are a registered user, you are free to make the necessary repairs yourself. Regards, --Diannaa (Talk) 22:55, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Please
Please stop following me around.
According to Wikipedia, that is disruptive.
I have looked at major earthquake and major tragedies. Most have a reaction section and a debate. Why allow so many repeated debates when we know the question will pop up every few weeks?
To encourage debates so often is disruptive. I am revolutionary in foreseeing that these debates happen time and time again.
By getting some discussion, we can help WP in the near future. We don't have to apply it to the Tucson tragedy. It is worthwhile to discuss if we should have reactions sections. If we do, it is helpful if we have an idea on who to include. Just who I want? Maybe what reliable sources are reporting? Or if Brad Pitt comments, include him??? - What I know is that many Hugglers have decided to try Huggle2 and have remained using it. It was founded in late 2010. Plus in the revert summary on HG2, it also has a reason such as unexplained removal of content and others. WAYNESLAM 22:58, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- I will check it out after supper. I am done with Clint Eastwood for the time being, by the way, as the nominators have been asked to trim the article down to 60K from an original size of some 153 K. They are presently down to 87K after some ruthless trimming and once they are down to the target size I will do another copy editing pass. --Diannaa (Talk) 23:07, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

List of current communist states
I don't know if it was your intent, but you didn't really revert the IP's removal of content. He keeps removing North Korea and Laos without consensus. btw I left a comment on my talk. Slightsmile (talk) 04:06, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- I did exactly what I intended: I reverted the removal of the link to the List of communist parties only. I did not stop by to participate in the edit war. Regards, --Diannaa (Talk) 04:15, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- Edit war. I caught this article patrolling recent changes. I agree with anons contributing since one fix a mistake I made last summer. But isn't it wierd that any god knows who can come in and dictate content? An anon persistantly making changes without consensus shouldn't be able to prevail. It just doesn't make sense. Did you check out those IPs? Slightsmile (talk) 04:37, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- I just reverted this. I won't get into trouble will I? Slightsmile (talk) 04:49, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- As soon as the other editor starts using edit summaries and quoting sources, it is no longer unexplained removal of content that can be reversed at will. I know an editor who got his rollback taken away for this sort of thing; see this thread http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/IncidentArchive654#User:Wayne_Slam. Sorry to have been a little less than polite in my response earlier; It's just that I am tired and need to go to bed now. --Diannaa (Talk) 05:25, 10 January 2011 (UTC)--Diannaa (Talk) 05:25, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. I didn't intend to have a discussion here, I would have preferred my page where your template is but here is fine too. It's a good thing I didn't use rollback even though this (these) IP is a vandal - see one and two , different IPs same person. I think it's outrageous that you threaten to block me for standing up to this guy. Even if this wasn't a vandal IP, anyone who has ever gone near a newspaper knows that North Korea is a communist country and this IP is a fringe of the fringe. This isn't about North Korea or if someone wants to put his girlfriend's crotch on the Vulva article. - The IP vandalised the talk page, for sure, but I still do not agree that the edits to the article were vandalism, so sorry. The 3rr notice board says, "...content disputes, even egregious point of view edits and other good-faith changes do not constitute vandalism." --Diannaa (Talk) 20:53, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- I sometimes see vandal IPs notified that all their edits are automatically reversed vandalism or not. Also how can you possibly assume good-faith with this IP? Another concern is if anons find out that all they have to do is put their POV twice and then the community is forced to let it stay or go through procedures to remove. Slightsmile (talk) 18:08, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
- Also if may add. Years ago people swore by Wikipedia. It was always my sole source of info. And now everybody says they don't trust Wikipedia. Unreliable etc. I know you don't make policy, we're just talking. I think that anons should be welcome to edit, but established members with concerns should be allowed to undo. Like my (I, gulp, broke the rule there) similar dispute at the Vulva article last week, who the hell is he to order us around about content! Slightsmile (talk) 18:27, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

- Edit war. I caught this article patrolling recent changes. I agree with anons contributing since one fix a mistake I made last summer. But isn't it wierd that any god knows who can come in and dictate content? An anon persistantly making changes without consensus shouldn't be able to prevail. It just doesn't make sense. God evening fine user
Why did you revert me?? I am pretty that the inclusion of a new team in a national league is not a sport highlight of a whole decade, even if it is in the NFL. It is well known that Association Football is the most practiced and popular sport in the world, so I just reworded the entry on it and added some hyperlinks. BTW, I edited the article again. God evening fine user number 2
I know what I erased, but I consider that the inclusion of a team into a professional league is not a major event in a decade, dozens of teams were born, sometimes more important and/or more wealthy than the texans (ie Juventus F.C.). Thats why I erased it. I think that winning 3 championships in an important league like NFL is worth mentioning. Even if many other teams, again more important and/or more wealthy (ie barcelona fc, or the spurs or the lakers) achieved something similar, I didnt erase the patriots record even when I was tempted on doing so. Nevertheless, the texans issue is by no means worth mentioning as an important event of the 2000sDanielfc.mx (talk) 06:45, 13 January 2011 (UTC) 12 jan 2011 11:44 edmonton canada time

Check yet another newb's work?
Hi! I did a bunch of editing on the Sinaia Monastery page, as it was part of this month's drive. While it isn't done, I'd sure appreciate any feedback you might provide. Thanks! Yerble (talk) 08:56, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- This is an article I tagged myself a week or two ago. You have done a great job and it is a big improvement. I have done another round of edits. You can see for yourself what I did; here are a few suggestions.
- The location of the monastery should appear in the opening sentence of the lead.
- Links needed improving. I took out some red links of people who are unlikely to ever have articles, and added some links to interesting related articles.
- Section headers should be lower case.
- Items in a bulleted list do not have punctuation at the end if sentence fragments are used.
- Some of the grammar still needed work. Often we see "had been" when they should have used "was". Some sentences were flipped around for added clarity. Example: "Typical for the neo-byzantine style, the gold mosaic paintings were created by Danish artist, Aage Exner" implies that it is typical of all neo-byzantine mosaics to have been created by the Danish artist. This way is clearer: "The gold mosaic paintings were created by Danish artist Aage Exner in a typical neo-Byzantine style."
- The words "the old church" were in blod everywhere; I removed the bold.
Thank you for doing the copy edits on this article, and welcome to the GOCE. --Diannaa (Talk) 16:50, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

I have reverted your recent edit to the article about Tim LaHaye. If you look at the article's edit history, you will see that it is currently under attack from a number of anonymous accounts. Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats.
So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now.
We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal. Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success! Your drive coordinators –S Masters (talk), Diannaa (Talk), The UtahraptorTalk to me, and Tea with toast (Talk) |

Commas after year
Hi
AS this seems to be a recurring thing, can you point me to the MoS that states there should be a comma after the year.
ie "In 2011, the" rather than "In 2011 the"
thanks for correcting the filmography - I missed italicising didnt I :¬( Chaosdruid (talk) 04:14, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi! I checked the WP:MoS and cannot find specific advice. Chicago says not to put a comma there; see section 6.45. So it looks like I was wrong. --Diannaa (Talk) 04:32, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
- I was having a debate about this with another editor User_talk:Chaosdruid#Year_and_comma and even after searching through the archives we couldn't find any advice for MoS entries that were a little ambiguous. It looks like when I was "correcting" sentences with "On July 4, 2010 there was a firework display" to "On July 4, 2010, there was a firework display" I was wrong as the MoS seems to imply there should not be a comma "Month before day: February 14 and February 14, 1990 (comma required)." although once we examined it I realised it is just referring to the one used after 14 lol.
- Thanks again for the italicising though - I went off to try and find out which of his works were short stories and which were novels and got distracted then totally forgot about it much to my embarrasment!
- Chaosdruid (talk)
- Wait a minute. If the sentence says: "In 2005 there was a display...", there should not be a comma. However, if the sentence says: "On January 17, 2011, there was a display...", then there should be a comma. I hate commas. My Chicago falls open to the chapter on commas because I have looked at it so much. :( --Diannaa (Talk) 04:44, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
- I know, such a small thing, a comma, and yet so many problems lol
- The table in the Mos Page doesnt have one and nor does the example ("January 5–7, 1979 with an unspaced...").
- Anyway I must be off as I have to watch NCIS before bed time - my fav, Giobbs would know what to do about the bloodty commas lol Chaosdruid (talk) 04:50, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

WILL you please remove these hate links that the yesterday anonymous editor added to the Health care in Israel article? 10x.
I tried to remove them but you undid me..
look, on the whole, Haaretz links are not trustworthy - they change every day. This is correct about EVERY haaretz link.
But the links this editor put there.. well, they all point to articles about the poor Palestinians, NOT about medical tourism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 132.72.226.107 (talk) 07:14, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry but it looks like a reliable source to me. They have been publishing since 1918. I checked the reliable sources notice board and found no indication that this is not a reliable source.
- http://www.haaretz.com/print-edition/news/health-ministry-warns-of-shortage-of-doctors-nurses-1.300230 does not contain the word Palestinians but gives facts and figures about the state of health care in Israel (number of doctors and nurses per capita and a potential shortage of health care services)
- http://web.archive.org/web/20080620111003/http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/952294.html discusses the state of medical tourism in 2008, and gives facts on how the cost of procedures compares in the U.S. Again Palestinians are not mentioned. --Diannaa (Talk) 15:48, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
Copy Edit Request
Would you copyedit Arkansas Militia in the Civil War. Aleutian06 01:59, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- I will not have time to do this until after the copy edit drive. In the meantime here are suggestions for things you can do yourself: work on revising the lead section as the present lead does not adequately summarise the contents of the article per WP:Lead. Also there are some obvious things you can do with section headers that do not presently comply with the manual of style. The article relies too heavily on quotations; please consider removing some.

- Hi fellow editor, I was wondering whether you could help. I stupidly got myself blocked WP:3RR, when I saw red at accusation of being anti-Hindu. See the discussion here. I am really concerned that there is an element of WP:GAME here where another editor is misusing warning templates an in here, here and here, where he has simply copied my warnings and added them on my talk page. He has also done this previously here, which another editor had put here. Look at the number of warnings he has recieved from me and other editors here. Is this really the sort of WP:GAME behaviour we want. Thanks--Sikh-History 14:54, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- You have let a content dispute spill over into a personal dispute, because the other user made you angry. Winston786 has only been editing for a few weeks, so he might not know where to get his warning templates or how to construct an appropriate message when he is unhappy about your actions. Attempting to communicate with others via edit summaries rather than discussing things on the talk page inevitably leads to edit wars! There is no rush; if unsuitable content stays in the article for a few days, nothing bad will happen. The encyclopedia will continue to improve. As a more senior editor you need to set a better example. This Winston786 has only been with us since January 2. Sorry my reply could not be more favourable this time. --Diannaa (Talk) 17:06, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- You are correct, and being accused of being a bigot does make me rather annoyed. I will try and make an effort, and also I think I need to change my sign in name, as people assume because of my interest in Sikh history, that I am some how partisan. Thanks--Sikh-History 21:30, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

U2 3D copyedit
A few months ago your did a copyedit for U2 3D after it failed its first FAC. I thought you did a really great job and a couple other editors agreed. Recently, I nominated the article for its second FAC, but one editor is claiming that the "prose are stiff and repetitive" and "there is a long way to go yet". I stated how a copyedit was done a few months back and no major edits have taken place since, but the editor says it still needs lots of work. I'd appreciate it if you could take a look at the article and/or comment on the FAC page. This editor is making it seem like the prose needs tons of work, but I disagree as I've gone through it many times, as did you a while ago.
Note: The FAC was started a month ago but after other editors stuck out their comments (after issues were resolved), one editor decided to start the FAC over from scratch, which explains why there isn't much listed there. I did discuss the copyedit before it was all removed and editors said it was done well and an improvement from the article before its first FAC. –Dream out loud (talk) 21:53, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

A favor?
Hey Diannaa, can you do me a quick favor? Can you move Margot and Maroie to Dame Maroie, to take the place of the old redirect? The article originally discussed two women poets; there is enough evidence in recent scholarship to suggest that these are two separate poets. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 03:38, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yes. Should I leave a redirect behind? --Diannaa (Talk) 03:43, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- Good question. Yes, I think so, since some scholarship still treats them as a duo. If the redirect goes to Dame Maroie, that would be good, since we know most about her. Hey, thank you so much! Drmies (talk) 03:45, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for taking the time to copy edit the article. But no thank you for the freezing Canadian air that is turning the great outdoors into a giant walk-in freezer. -20°c really? brr... --Jeremy (blah blah • I did it!) 19:53, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- Oh have fun with that :) We are finally getting some warm weather - it is a balmy 6 °C (43 °F). I have to go to the gym and will finish up by the end of the day, I hope. See you later --Diannaa (Talk) 19:57, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Just visiting
Hi Diana! Just wanted to drop by and see how things are going with you. :) Btw, your Archive 4 reads (October 2010 to November 2010) but there are no posts from October anywhere on that page. You may want to change that to read just "November 2010". -- Ϫ 03:08, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi there! Thanks for popping in. I have fixed that problem. Things are going well! I just finished a big article about Burger King products and ate all the snack food in the cupboard while doing so. --Diannaa (Talk) 03:15, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

difference btw pinscreen and pinscreen animation
why my edit on Pinscreen page had been reverted??? i am in the process to improve the accuracy of pinscreen, / pin art. i have many reasons to clarify the difference between pinscreen and pinscreen animation!!! please read the fact of ward fleming and his patented invention, which i added in the origin section in pinscreen animation. thank you! Help with IP 80.42.248.181
Greetings - you've blocked this vandal, from what I can see. Please be apprised that this person has been leaving sexually suggestive comments on talk pages. You can view the one left for me at my talk page, please do so and advise. Sorry to bother you with this sort of stupid thing, but I have reason to suspect I know who IP 80 is.75.21.150.44 (talk) 09:59, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, sorry your page got vandalised. If you could collect several IPs (they are editing from a dynamic IP) then we could try a range block. Please try not to take the vandalism too personally or too seriously. That is what they want to happen; it's called trolling. Best to WP:RBI: remove the post, block the user, ignore. --Diannaa (Talk)

PAGCOR Tower
Another user Mervynbunique seems to be against deleting Pagcor Tower, however he does not have any valid reason for it other than saying "looks stupid.. is hard to read. we dont need it here, you can put it into the talk page". That user also seems to have a record of doing disruptive edits, and he seems to be doing it as well to the Pagcor Tower Article. I also believe that the reason for deleting the article is valid as seem on its talk page Talk:Pagcor_Tower. 112.210.241.195 (talk) 14:10, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- The maintenance tags are correctly placed on the article. Whether Mervynbunique likes their appearance or not, they maintenance tags do not belong on the talk page. Thanks for helping me keep an eye on this problem. --Diannaa (Talk) 15:10, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- The article has now been revised to that it is clear that it is not being built at this time. I am no longer in favor of deleting the article. --Diannaa (Talk) 21:13, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
Croatian War of Independence
Hi! I would like to ask you for help regarding copyediting of Croatian War of Independence. The article is currently listed as an A-class candidate article with the Military history project. Nearly all of the review concerns are addressed by now, but a reviewer pointed out that there is a bit of work required in terms of prose before it could be passed. A WP:GOCE copyedit was performed on this article while it was a GA candidate, but some material was altered or added in the meantime.
I am aware that a GOCE drive is underway, but the A-class nomination is due to close on February 11, so could you please copyedit this article before this due date? Thanks.--Tomobe03 (talk) 01:23, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, I will start on it on the weekend. --Diannaa (Talk) 05:20, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

RfA
Hello! Do you think that you could give me some advice? I was considering going for another RfA in a few weeks, which would be my third, with my latest RfA being in August. If you could give me some advice on what I can do in that time to increase my chances of succeeding, and/or giving a prediction on the result, I would greatly appreciate it. --Slon02 (talk) 01:24, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
- Here are some things to work on. These are things brought up about other candidates recently (some of them in my own RFA in October0.
- Your percentage of automated edits is high, at 64% http://toolserver.org/~soxred93/autoedits/index.php?user=Slon02&lang=en&wiki=wikipedia&begin=&end=
- Your top edited articles do not show a great commitment to developing any one article. Some users look for that.
- People still want to see content contributions from the admin candidates, including work on GAs and FAs, although that is not what admins actually do.
- You need to have a firm idea what tasks you propose to tackle and if they are in areas where there are backlogs of work to be done, all the better. There are large backlogs at image deletion and copyright work.
- You need to demonstrate good people skills; some of the questions will be not attempts to get information from you but attempts to get you riled to see how you react. I will add more ideas later if I think of anything else. --Diannaa (Talk) 05:16, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
- Excellent! Thank you very much! --Slon02 (talk) 12:21, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Grobschnitt 03.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Grobschnitt 03.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Diannaa (Talk) 21:35, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
- The original source seems to have been called into question, despite the permission tags that it bore at the time. You will need to find out from the German Wikipedia what the status is, or wait for their discussion to conclude. The image was only uploaded here for DYK purposes, based on the tags the de-image bore. --EncycloPetey (talk) 03:49, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Apologies
Hi Diannaa. I never thought that the time would come when I would ever revert you because I have seen you in many articles and I always agree with your approach. And I mean always. This time however this looks like a fringe theory, and I would like to examine this further before we can include it in the article. I opened a section on Jackie Kennedy's talkpage and I would welcome your views. Sorry for the reversion nonetheless. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 05:10, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- No worries, I did not actually add the content but merely toned down what the previous user had posted. It looks a little sketchy to me as well, though sourced to the NY Times and posted on the Yale website. --Diannaa (Talk) 05:13, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you Diannaa. I am not opposed to adding this if properly established as a historical/genetic fact. But a mere passing mention on NYT about the possibly novel, fringe theory of some academic, even if hosted on a university website does not, in my opinion at least, satisfy wp:fringe or wp:undue. I opened the section at the article and hopefully more editors can offer their opinions. Take care and thanks again. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 05:24, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- It is an interesting theory that may be difficult to prove after all this time has passed. Our article says Black Jack came from France --Diannaa (Talk) 16:12, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- "Black Jack", nice way to put it. :) Anyway the "Yale" link http://www.yale.edu/smhac/articles/family.htm is not really from Yale directly. It is from http://www.yale.edu/smhac a separate website which happens to be hosted on the Yale U domain but it is a student website. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 17:18, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- Apparently he was suntanned all the time! But I am pretty sure they were French and not Afro-Dutch. The Kennedys must be one of the most-studied families in the world; if there is actually evidence for this claim it likely would have been found by now. --Diannaa (Talk) 17:24, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- Genealogy and genetics can be sometimes not only contentious but very complex. Even in the case of Adolf Hitler there are claims he had African Berber DNA. The representation of Hermes, the Greek god, with afro-looking hair is taken as evidence in some circles that the ancient Greeks were of mixed heritage. All this is well and good but we cannot go by speculation alone. In an encyclopedia exceptional claims, as also you mentioned, have to be supported by scholarly research which in this case was clearly not so. Anyway, sorry for yet another of these annoying yellow message bars, take care. It was very nice talking to you. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 18:00, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Steve Howey
Hi. I am quite new at copy editing and I have general question on tags. E.g. I was looking at the backlog and came across Steve Howey (actor). It was tagged in March 2010 and after that it was changed and improved by many editors. Is the tag is still needed or it is there because no one dared to remove it? It looks much better than a lot of not tagged pages. Can you comment a bit on removing tags? Another question: can anyone add a copy edit page to a page or there is a policy for that? Thanks Mpaa (talk) 10:36, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
- We don't have any official taggers and de-taggers. Anyone can add and remove maintenance tags as required. Please do not remove the tags unless the work has actually been completed; thats the only "rule". The Steve Howey page still needs some minor punctuation fixes and then the tag can be removed. Thank you for your question, and welcome to Wikipedia. Regards, --Diannaa (Talk) 16:56, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
Newsletter time
It's time to develop the final newsletter for the Guild's January Backlog elimination drive, but instead of developing it in my subpage, I'm thinking we should create a Guild page dedicated to the development of our newsletters. We could create Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Newsletters and add links to all of our newsletters. We could put the newsletters themselves into subpages, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Newsletters/December 2010, or something along those lines. The newsletters can be developed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Newsletters/Development area. What do you think? The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 14:43, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yes this is a very good idea. It will help us keep a record. January is a great time to start as we will have a record from the beginning of the year! --Diannaa (Talk) 16:44, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
- The page has been created. Before I create the newsletter subpages, though, I want you to have a look at the project page. I think I may have forgotten something. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 18:45, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
- I am already doing two things at once but I will get to it soonest. --Diannaa (Talk) 18:48, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
- It's the tab thingys that we have across the top of each page as a navigation aid. We will have to add a tab for the newsletters page to the tab-set and update the tab-set on each page where it appears. We can work on this tomorrow as I am too tired to do anything else complex today. --Diannaa (Talk) 05:51, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- I have added the new tab to the tab-sets on all our Guild pages. I will close off the drive at 5 pm MST. I have to go out for a while after that, and we can start the newsletter this evening or tomorrow. --Diannaa (Talk) 23:06, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

April to delete
Hi - ah well another one over !
[[Category:Wikipedia articles needing copy edit from April 2009]] is ready to delete.
Any idea why the list shows 4 undated articles still ? I thought I had done those 4 in the July drive
I also just notice I had 30,000 rollover words from Sept - Damn! I couldn't use them as I was having PC problems during the November drive. Chaosdruid (talk) 23:25, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- Lol - I think I just added your talk page to the list by mistake - fixed now :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 23:29, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- Just don't add it to the list of speedy deletion candidates ;) Did you not copy-edit at all in November?? --Diannaa (Talk) 23:55, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- I had lots of things to do in the first half of the month and I was going to get involved later but my PC started to go wrong just ater I did an AWB run on the India projects articles as a test for them (on the 13th November lol) and then failed totally at the end of the week. I was ok during lunch breaks at work but then we closed the factory for two weeks and I lost access. I did try but was having to use my "smart" phone which kept messing up pages and was not displaying properly. I even had to ask someone to fix a page when it decided to delete half of it when I edited a sentence. Apparently the memory and Java were having issues causing it to truncate after 1.5MB of page - that sounds big but it isn't. Anything with less than 2,000 words was ok but bigger pages were at risk of corruption.
- I felt pretty guilty lol but I think I made up for it this time round Chaosdruid (talk) 00:08, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
- PS I just checked and it was you I asked to put the notice on my page lol ! [3]
- Yes, it was! I remember. It's a shame to lose those rollover words, but you will qualify for some top awards in January regardless. Good job! --Diannaa (Talk) 00:31, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
- Oh I just noticed your question about the undated articles. We investigated that glitch some time ago, and couldn't figure it out. It is not only our backlog list that is out of whack, but many, all over the project. --Diannaa (Talk) 00:39, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
- Yup - but I never get the gold lol :¬(
- At least this time I might get the biggest article one. The thing that scares me is the Indian articles. I am scared to put the copyedit needed tags on to them as there are so many, I believe last time I looked there were 80,000 Indian articles, at tleast ones that are tagged.
- They take so long to edit, one I added over a hundred "the"s and about forty "a"s to. I should get up the courage to tag them for copy-edit but I know that realistically, it will be us that ends up doing them a year or so from now...
- Anyway I had better get my socks on and get AWB fired up for a run on the Robotics project stuff - no rest for the wicked and I am sure you have plenty to to do with the newsletter etc. :¬)
- Thanks for all your, and the other co-ordinators, hard work ! Chaosdruid (talk) 00:41, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, India is a very scary problem. The Hindi wiki only has 50,000 articles; they would rather post in English; perhaps they are being instructed to do so in school as a way to hone their language skills. Someday every single village and temple in the country will have an article, and then we can copy-edit them all, and then we will be done. And then we can do the same for Pakistan! Thank you very much for all your copy edits and comments. Another fun drive! I am gonna do the Wikify drive in February, and will keep an eye on the requests page. See you soon. --Diannaa (Talk) 00:49, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

The February 2011 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive has begun!
Get going! The February 2011 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive has begun. Please get started, as the drive aims to wikify over 2,000 articles this month. We're going to need all the firepower we can get, so please remind your friends to join up as well. In case you didn't know, wikification is fairly simple: just add wiki markup, links, and similar formatting. Thanks for joining; we're looking forward to an exciting time this month! 5,000 doobery
Hi - and thanks !
I have to go back to work tomorrow after a few weeks off and that news has certainly cheered me up no end !!! :¬)
Woohoo !! I'll keep an eye out for that next time - are we going to do it again in March ?
And thanks again - I'll be dreaming of a gold badge and a dodge viper tonight lmao ¦¬)
Chaosdruid (talk) 01:30, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, March it is! there is a gold-plated typewriter for you; we just have to get it engraved. --Diannaa (Talk) 01:35, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- Lmao! that makes up for the no carry over big time - good luck with Wikifying, I need to check that out as I never completely understood what Wikifying is - I imagined it had to do with lead sizes and orders of sections etc., something for me to read tomorrow I guess. Anyway I am off to bed to dream of my gold typewriter and badge lol, night and thx again. Chaosdruid (talk) 01:42, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Fuzzy math?
Hey Diannaa, I checked through all the roll-over totals and your math looks good. I also checked over the leader boards and they all look fine except for the massive Kutch Gurjar Kashtriya article that Chaosdruid copy edited. Before the user added the GOCE-in-use tag, the article had 30,966 words. There was also a bullet-point list that added 1715 words for a total of 32,681 – not 32,711 as was written. The difference is not huge, but I'm wondering how 32,711 was calculated. There is another numbered list of items within the article totaling 153 words, but adding this still doesn't make 32,711. Could you help me on this? Thanks! --Tea with toast (talk) 03:55, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for checking my artihmetic. :) Chaosdruid has turned in for the night so I can't get you an answer right now to your other question. Most people plug an article with a lot of lists into a word processing programme to do the word count and there may be slight variations in how different programmes do the calculation. It does not impact any of our awards, but we can find out tomorrow, if you think it's important. --Diannaa (Talk) 04:09, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
An Enquiry
Hi, the message you left on my talk page reads, and I quote, "The recent edit you made to Wikipedia:Sandbox has been reverted, as it appears to be unconstructive. Thanks for fixing my talk page, and....
the IP editor you blocked 174.94.36.111 is messing with his talk page, and well, frankly putting my name all over it and one of his edit summaries is a clear BLP violation. I thought I would let you know. Thanks again. Dbrodbeck (talk) 04:43, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

- Well, there is one where he, in the edit summary, calls me his boyfriend, which seems a bit much (and to be clear, I only edit that page for vandalism, I would never ever edit my own page, I respect the rules around here). If you think that should go, that would be good. I appreciate it. Thanks again. Dbrodbeck (talk) 04:55, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Rogue IP Edit War
Hi Fellow Editor, I seem to be having some problems with my editing tools, but could you have a look at this rogue IP who seems to be deleting references and adding some odd information here. Thanks --Sikh-History 08:20, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- I am investigating right now. It looks like the content is a copyright violation. If an editor removes sourced content and replaces it with their own opinion or unsourced ramblings, that is indeed vandalism. People who repeatedly insert copyright material also need to be warned and reported for vandalism. What you need to do is put escalating warning templates (level 1, 2, 3, 4) on their talk page, and if they continue to vandalise after four warnings (you can get the appropriate warning templates from Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace), please report them to WP:AIV. I will help if I am not sleeping, but since we live on opposite sides of the planet, I will not always be available when you need help. Removing vandalism is an exception to the 3RR rule. Copyright text can readily be spotted; a large block of unformatted text, usually more professionally worded than you might expect, is dropped into the article. You can copy a sentence into the Google search engine and locate the source of the text. Watch out for WP:mirror sites that are copies of Wikipedia. Have a look at this Google search: [4] Sikhwiki.org is a wikipedia mirror; the place the IP copied the text from is up.co.in. --Diannaa (Talk) 15:35, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- Another administrator has blocked the IP for edit warring; I am still going to place a notice on their Talk page not to copy stuff from other web sites. --Diannaa (Talk) 15:38, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thaks. The PC I am on prevents my editing tools from working. I will have to use another one. As a rule in information on www.sikhiwiki.org is junk and I remove it, when it used as a reference here. I have caught editors writing stuff here, then referencing back to www.sikhiwiki.org, where they have edited the article in another name. Thanks--Sikh-History 15:43, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- Yes. There is a wiki called IMdB, which is a movie data base. Vandals have been known to post false information on that wiki and then try to use it as a source here on Wikipedia. I have to go to work now so I will see you later. Bye --Diannaa (Talk) 15:45, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Re:January barnstar.
Thank you for the barnstar, Diannaa! Now, I hope I don't sound ungrateful, but I'm mostly asking this so that I better understand how this works: One of the rules for barnstar awarding is that anyone who copyedits an article of 10,000 or more words gets a special award for doing that. I copyedited an article of just over 10,000 words, but it was solely for typo-correction - the copyediting tag at the top still qualified. Does an editor have to copyedit the article enough so that the tag can come down, or do they only need to complete a certain copyedit that they set out to do? Wilhelmina Will (talk) 21:41, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- You are right, you did copy edit an article of over 10,000 words. We have simply not yet finished handing out all the barnstars! This document shows what all has been done so far. Sorry for any confusion. Congrats on your nice awards, and thanks for helping out with the drive. --Diannaa (Talk) 21:46, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- Okey-doke! Thanks for "clearing the fog"! And these drives are fun, I personally think a lot more WikiProjects, especially those concerned with editing styles, should hold these sorts of drives every other month - it's a collaborative effort, treated like a semi-competition, and substantial participations are rewarded, so there's plenty of motivation for people to work on clearing these pages up. GOCE January Backlog elimination drive conclusion
Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We have reached the end of the month and the end of another successful drive; thanks to all who participated.
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the November 2010 Backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering the barnstars within the next couple of weeks. Thank you for participating in this year's first Backlog elimination drive! We hope to see you in March. Thank you much- User:Diversity8 —Preceding undated comment added 04:38, 10 February 2011 (UTC).
- The band does not meet the notability guidelines. People, bands, and other organisations need to have write-ups in reliable third-party sources such as magazines or newspapers in order to be considered notable enough for a Wikipedia article. Have a look at the material at WP:BAND for guidelines specific to bands. --Diannaa (Talk) 04:43, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
- This band has multiple credible websites full of information that were listed under it's external links and reference list.-User:Diversity8 —Preceding undated comment added 05:25, 10 February 2011 (UTC).
- Myspace and Facebook are not considered reliable sources. The Encyclopaedia Mettalum is a wiki that anyone can edit and thus is likely not a reliable source. The remaining sources were Mr Birkenmyer's own websites. All of the albums are self-published. There are no write-ups in reliable third-party sources that I could find. Sorry, but it seems that this band is not notable enough for a Wikipedia article at this time. --Diannaa (Talk) 19:44, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

- beg to differ, its not me its the User:Sikh-history who is making unconstructive edits like this and is also misusing warning templates like this and this. I have warned him about WP:3RR on Ranbir Kapoor. The user seems to be obsessed with me and is stalking my edits, some of his blind edits like this is a good example of him showing personal animosity towards me, he was earlier making unecessary comments on my talk page like this and this. He was blocked for 24 hrs last time. Winston786 (talk) 09:36, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- Read WP:Game, and I think your behaviour will become clear. You've already had 1 weeks ban and you have engaged in edit wars with administrators. Also issuing WP:3rr when I clearly have not reverted edits is a great example of misuse of templates. It will be interesting to see how long this will continue. Thanks and Best Wishes--SH 14:23, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- Exactly, its you who need to read WP:Game, you are constantly stalking my edits, most of your edits recently have been the ones related with mine. WP:3rr was issued coz you did revert the edits I made on the page. There has been no misuse of templates by me. Even you have been blocked in past(your block log) so watch it. Winston786 (talk) 14:32, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Just to make my case clear, I have added all the verified and standard sources when asked by other long established users, and I can explain all the edits I made. The only person warning me(or misuse of warning template I may say) is User:Sikh-history. Winston786 (talk) 15:20, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- Administrator Titoxd removed the AIV report with the remark "not done; take this to AN/I, RFC, or somewhere else, since it's not blatant vandalism/spam". The diffs I have checked so far show that Sikh History is adding content and providing sources and Winston 786 is adding content and not providing sources. Sikh History, please do not accuse people of gaming the system or of having a lack of competence. That type of post inflames the situation and makes thing worse. Winston 786, it is quite normal for people to watch-list articles and check their list several times a day. I do this myself on problematic articles; I have 170 pages on my watch list. If Sikh History has watch-listed some of the articles that you are editing, this may give the appearance that he is following you around; however he is actually following the development of the articles and not you in particular. --Diannaa (Talk) 15:25, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- In many cases I have provided the source, when asked for(or a better one), the other edition I have made are "Facts" which can be just tagged rather than complete deletion. Winston786 (talk) 15:33, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is past the point where we can add material, especially to biographies, without quoting reliable sources. Things have gotten stricter about that even since I started editing a year and a half ago. WP:BURDEN says if you wish to add material you have to provide a source. Any unsourced material is subject to immedicate removal. --Diannaa (Talk) 15:38, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

- Funny that the Bollywood pages you have on your watchlist, drew your attention only after I edited them and all your edits on them are just blind reverts or twisting of my edits. Winston786 (talk) 16:39, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

- I understand. But it inflames the situation to say it, even if it is true. You would not say it to a co-worker if you were speaking to them in person, would you? Probably not, as you would make an enemy. --Diannaa (Talk) 19:22, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- True and noted. It sounded a bit Vulcan :). Can you take a look at the links I raised above as well as the WP:AN/I. Thanks--SH 19:40, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- Yes. I am working on some real-life things as well. Unfortunately no admins seem inclined to respond to the ANI thread. I would be interested to hear other opinions --Diannaa (Talk) 19:48, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- Me and DBachmann are the only two editor who try and tackle Indian related articles head on. You are peobably the third. Most editors realise they are a headache. I have had 3 blocks over Indian related articles and I consider myself quite dispassionate. It can get rather heated even for very cold people like me. :) Thanks--SH 19:54, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

- I think that is a good example of the problem. Their are relaible sources there from books, magazine article and from English newspapers like the Guardian, but he either does not understand them or does not understand what WP:Consensus is. here is another example, where he seems to object to Hindu women being captured by Muslims, when clearly the reference states "When Hindus crack this joke, they are oblivious to the fact that had the Sikhs not intervened, their womenfolk would have been dishonoured and taken into exile....". Now this could be raised under WP:Censorship. Thanks --SH 10:18, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

This extremely annoying person hasn't yet shown any signs of tiring of his silly games. It is becoming a chore to keep reverting his puerile edits to the Jonjo Shelvey page, so I was wondering if the account could be blocked, since he/she has already been warned but has ignored the warnings and declared their intent of continuing adding references to Shelvey being bald. Dubmill (talk) 17:57, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- I am not keen to block a person for something so trivial but it is disruptive. I will try one more final warning and if the activity continues let's post it at WP:AIV for a second opinion. Thanks. --Diannaa (Talk) 18:04, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

As an admin, I feel I owe you the courtesy of telling you that I have requested full protection for Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto. While I know that you can't directly protect the article, your opinion on the RPP page may be useful. Qwyrxian (talk) 04:52, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for letting me know. I have been following this case for a while now. --Diannaa (Talk) 05:16, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
- I don't suppose that you could nudge another admin to look at both the page protection request for this page as well as the 3RR report I filed on User:Babasalichai? The protection request was filed about ten hours ago, so that's not too old, but the 3RR report was filed over 24 hours ago, and several more recent reports have been processed since then (I'm worried that perhaps it just got overlooked). It just seems that he will never compromise in a way that is intelligible. Perhaps it's just me? Not sure! Either way, thanks for your help, Diannaa. --Beobjectiveplease (talk) 06:14, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I have seen that before. What happens is we continue as we are doing and if he adds any material that violates BLP policy, we remove it. We keep doing that for as long as it takes. He can do no damage presently as the article is locked; when the protection expires it can be re-applied. Some of his stuff is bordering on trolling, as he persists in not getting the point. That's another way it could go: he violates enough rules that he gets blocked indefinitely. Thank you for spending so much time on this matter. The more of us there are that are mnonitoring, the better. --Diannaa (Talk) 15:21, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Aye, thank you for the reminder! All information on the page comes from Petrov's autobiography. I shall go back now and cite particular references.
Some recent changes (I believe made by one of Petrov's children) are, though salutary, somewhat at odds with his published recollections. I shall go back and make sure that the citations are properly done.
Would be much obliged if you'd check over my shoulder when I'm done and make sure things are in order.

- Yes I find it very useful. Because you're in constant real-time contact with other Wikipedians (also, admins have their own private channel, but to whoever else is reading this don't worry, there's no shady cabal-like business dealings going on in there, it's actually quite boring usually ;) ) I'm usually active in the #wikipedia-en-help channel, where I'm always helping out newbies. There's also an anti-vandalism channel that monitors the recent changes feed and continually outputs any edits that are flagged by the system as being possible vandalism. I have my client set so that it notifies me anytime my name or any other certain keyword pops up in the feed.. it functions like an automatic notification watchlist, which can be very useful, especialyl if someone is in the process of vandalising your userpage. There's also usually really lively chat in #wikipedia-en, which can be entertaining to watch on some friday and saturday nights as drunken Wikipediots argue with each other ;P. Also the Office hours chats are a great way to get to know some of the suits at the foundation. Anyways, it's not everyone's cup-o-tea, I guess it depends if you're social butterfly and like chatting much :) -- Ϫ 06:56, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

- I do have a question. In the section entitled "Volunteer companies organized from state militia", There is a [citation needed] tag after the comment, "Several other well-documented companies are likely have been organized in this manner, such as the Jackson Guards from Jackson County, and the Phillips County Guards of Phillips County, but so far contemporary records linking them to the militia have not been found." I am unsure how to resolved this tag, since the comment is about the fact that no records have been found. I added this comment after a couple of people sent me lists of Volunteer Companies from Arkansas and asked why they weren't all included in the article. How to you document the lack of a reference, or is there a better way to make the point? I really appreciate your insight. I may eventually nominate this article for GA. Aleutian06 16:56, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
- If there is no mention of the lack of sources in the sources, you may have to take it out as it looks like OR or speculation :). Here are some suggestions for further development of the article:
- you could consolidate the references that are used multiple times. Have a look at my favourite article, Indiana class battleship . Note the Footnotes, Citations, Bibliography set-up
- if you put all the citations in cite templates they will all be formatted correctly and in the same manner
- citations need (where possible) ISBNs or OCLC numbers, publisher name, publication date, location - these may be available at www.Worldcat.org
- all the dates need to be in American style (m-d-y; I worked on this but may have missed some, especially in the references).
- Please let me know when you are getting close and I will do another round of copy edits. Good luck and have fun --Diannaa (Talk) 17:08, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

The Error of Bias
You cited me for vandalism because of my apparently "biased edits". Yet by calling my edits biased, isn't that biased in itself? I think you need to review your policy before accusing others of vandalism. To know the true reality of yourself, you must be aware not only of your conscious thoughts, but also of your unconscious prejudices, bias and habits. I mean mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of, but stigma and bias shame us all. Windows Vista “Compatibility mode”
"Compatibility mode" is all about catering to how IE has long done things wrong.
Get Safari, Chrome, and Opera, too.
Seriously, Jack Merridew 06:56, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, I will test it out. I am now wearing "Japanese Tattoo". It seems very peppy; the pages load fast. Perhaps I will shortly feel like I have been endeavoring to construct a mnemonic memory circuit using stone knives and bearskins --Diannaa (Talk) 15:44, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
- Bonus: your talk page is no longer too wide for the screen, so I can creep your page in comfort ;) --Diannaa (Talk) 16:22, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
- Nice job, kiddo ;) N419BH said something about the width of my page on a netbook; may have been an IE-issue. IE's rendering is intentionally problematic. They *want* people catering to their way of doing things.
- The Personas for Firefox are a gimmick; I, of course, picked the Wiki-one. It's true values are it's proper rendering, the endless available add-ons, and it is the default browser for most serious internet professionals. Safari and Chrome are pretty good, too, and Opera's no slouch. Chrome's rel strength is it's javascript engine, which is very fast. Every have a browser tab lock-up and have to restart the browser? Chrome is architected so that just the tab dies, and the others go on fine. Cheers, Jack Merridew 18:57, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
Review of copy-edit
I was wondering, if and when you had time, if you could review the article When You Reach Me. I just performed a copy-edit for the author, but my copy-edits have never been reviewed, and so I would like some feedback. Especially before the March GOCE drive starts. :) If you are not able to, could you recommend someone who could? Thank you! -Pax85 (talk) 21:22, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, I will do it and give you some feedback. --Diannaa (Talk) 21:24, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
- Your edits are great and add a lot of clarity; that is our main goal. Good job. I found a few more places to streamline the language and use fewer words; plus, there were a couple spots where I added words for clarity.
- The section A Wrinkle in Time got a major overhaul as far as the order of the sentences, and I had to split a cite to do it. The reason I did this was to get the events to flow in chronological order.
- Punctuation fixes, mostly missing commas. Example: "When You Reach Me follows sixth grade protagonist Miranda" becomes "When You Reach Me follows a sixth-grade protagonist, Miranda." "Sixth-grade" needs a hyphen because it is being used as an adjective.
- Things were changed and omitted in the Plot section to try to add clarity. For example, we don't need to know that the notes arrived before Sal was hit; adding that bit just confuses things.
- I almost always remove the words "also" and "however". Some articles have the word "also" in almost every sentence. The word "however" should be reserved for when something unexpected happens.
- Sal is a boy.
- Over-linking was reduced. Link once in the lead, and once in the body of the article. Look for the first occurence as the one to be linked.
- Diff: Diff of When You Reach Me
- Thank you so much for your interest in helping out with copy edits for the GOCE. --Diannaa (Talk) 23:47, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks so much for the pointers! BLT
Hey. Just a courtesy note for the future, it's not recommended to move an article when it's in the middle of a GA review. Now that BLT (sandwich) was moved to BLT, the bot wasn't recognizing that review that was on the talk page and it got messed up. I went and fixed it, but just remember that if here's a GA subpage on the talk page, then that needs to be moved as well if that needs to be done. Not your fault, the bot's just really picky and it's already dificult to make sure everything's in order. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 06:08, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for fixing it. I noticed the GA review when I was cleaning up but for some reason did not notice it was an active one. I will try to watch out for this problem in the future. --Diannaa (Talk) 06:10, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

Q for you
Hi Dianna, I've been reading thru your copy edits to chess article, learning a lot from them. (For example, I see you really deep-six the word "also" a lot. At first this bugged me; now I see that mostly that word is an unnecessary filler. Breaking bad habits is hard but healthy. Reading your ce's helps me learn. I'm fascinated by how slight alterations either aid or can inflict harm on intended meaning, etc.)
My Q for you: Do you have suggestion for me how to efficiently proceed? (E.g. is there any book or course or website you might specially recommend to speed my learning, make it more efficient, etc.?) Thx!
p.s. I made a tiny correction on your userpage to demo I love detail! :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ihardlythinkso (talk • contribs) 17:35, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

We have lately been developing some resources such as a Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/How to/Step by step guide which you can use to work your way through an article. There are other tips at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/How to that have been sorted by complexity. We have just started offering a mentorship program, where one of the Guild coordinators would work with you for a while and help you improve your skills. The two books I bought specifically for Wikipedia editing were The Copyeditor's Handbook by Amy Einsohn ISBN 9780520246881 and The Chicago Manual of Style ISBN 9780226104201. --Diannaa (Talk) 19:32, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
