Use of quotations
[edit]Hi, and thanks for creating Tanycnema and other articles on taxa. However, I notice that you have made use of lengthy quotation rather than paraphrase. In the case of text published before 1923, this is probably lawful as the text will be out of copyright, but it remains undesirable for the encyclopedia, which should speak in its own words.
It's also not ideal to have articles based on just one source even when that is the original description - valid taxa are assumed to be notable but better sourcing remains a priority. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:59, 7 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Chiswick Chap: Thanks for the comments. I'm in the midst of editing these pages and planned to digest these parts a little (and add more references where possible). Right now, I've entered complete descriptions where these are unavailable online in any digital form and probably accessible only via highly specialised institutional libraries. Monotypic taxon?
[edit]Hi. I saw your new articles Tanycnema anomala and Tanycnema. Is it your understanding that the only species in Tanycnema is Tanycnema anomala? If so, Wikipedia's standard way of doing things (WP:MONOTYPICFAUNA) would be to put all the information for both at Tanycnema. Does that make sense to you? Thanks and keep up the good work. - @SchreiberBike: Thanks - that makes sense. I'll merge them in the next few days as I make more changes. Dhobern (talk) 22:45, 7 December 2017 (UTC)
- Great. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. I don't know much about biology but I've got a pretty good handle on Wikipedia. SchreiberBike | ⌨ 23:05, 7 December 2017 (UTC)
A page you started (Parafuscoptilia) has been reviewed!
[edit]Thanks for creating Parafuscoptilia, Dhobern!
Wikipedia editor Nick Moyes just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:
You've put in a link, suggesting there are media on Wikipedia Commons.I can't see anything there myself.

- @Nick Moyes: Thanks - I've removed it now. I constructed the page starting from the contents of another which gave me the model for a monotypic genus and didn't understand how that Commons template worked. Now I do ... Dhobern (talk) 11:18, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Notification of proposed rename of Exelastini-stub to Marasmarchini-stub
[edit]Hello! Hope you're doing well, even though you haven't been 'round the wiki for a while. Here to leave you a heads up that I've listed {{Exelastini-stub}} for renaming to {{Marasmarchini-stub}} at Categories for discussion here. (I'd leave a standard notification, but I manually bundled the stub template with a rename request for the Exelastini category, so no handy-dandy Twinkle notification option available) AddWittyNameHere 00:36, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
