Article ban on QuackGuru

[edit]

Hi,

Just a note that there has been additional discussion at Wikipedia:Community_sanction_noticeboard#Proposed_article_ban_for_User:QuackGuru, which seems to recommend an RfC. As I noted at the Talk:Essjay_controversy#Article_Community_ban_proposed, I would be supportive of this effort, if you'd like to proceed -- and would be willing to assist in drafting the language/providing research. Regards, --LeflymanTalk 23:24, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dev, you really need to discuss Esparanza edits, the pages has been protected loads now, and ed has been blocked for 3RR. It's getting serious now, I am requesting that you talk about all edits made to the page before implementing. Ryanpostlethwaite contribs/talk 00:44, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Would you be willing to attempt a mediation?--Ed ¿Cómo estás? 01:43, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've gone through everything that you wrote to me earlier today and I do have to agree. Would you let me lead a mediation, just to drum out a couple of issues, then we can fully protect the page forever? It needs to be sorted and this should end the conflict Ryanpostlethwaite contribs/talk 15:53, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know, old boy, that you feel that you aren't intelligent as other people - but that doesn't mean you can't contribute. Just try and be rational and sensible and human and you will improve with practice. We are very patient. NerriTunn 09:58, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

But you never make rational arguments. You make badly thought out suggestions, and when that is pointed out, instead of defending or emending them, you get into a flounce and say, "oh, let's ignore NerriTunn", as if you were in infant school. Or you do something else spiteful. You have a lot of growing up to do. Don't reply - TerriNunn is no more. (PS. I have never used sock puppetry to get my way - recent reverters were other people! There is a slightly Stalinist paranoia creeping into your contributions - that or you are just using cheap allegations to try to get your own way ) NerriTunn 10:34, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wales as co-founder of Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi Dev920, I am curious as to your agenda for reverting the fact that Jimbo Wales is the co-founder of Wikipedia? Also, any article that has erroneous material should be reverted it seems, regardless of the primary subject of the article. Thanks, --Tom 16:38, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jimmy Wales

[edit]

Agenda? Tell me, have you heard WP:AGF? I haven't got an agenda, as I recall, Jimbo is the sole founder of Wikipedia, and Larry was the employee who quit. What agenda is required to ensure accuracy in articles? Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 16:52, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dev, go check your memory, because its faulty. Wales has been called "co-founder" by the media numerous times. The agenda required to ensure accuracy is noted on my user page. Again, why is SO important to label Wales founder and NOT co-founder? --Tom 17:39, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The media also consistently claims that the world is about to be decimated by global warming/AIDS/bird flu/world war 3, but that doesn't mean it is. Jimbo has consistently said that he is the sole founder. And I don't think it's important - but it is true, so I don't really see the point of your question. Importance is irrelevant to truth, surely? Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 17:08, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The whole point of this project is to collect reliable, confirmable, established material. What somebody says of themselves does not make it true/fact. Anyways, cheers!--Tom 17:36, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It means than I should have a bot now or later when I graduate. P.S. This is a old question and don't think about it. Jet123 00:55, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Considering not much of the article has changed since the last FAC, I don't think it would win now if we tried again so soon. There are still some issues that weren't fully dealt with from the last FAC, such as more clarification of what the Internet radio shows were, and also how successful the anime DVD sales were, not to mention that that information needs updating as it's only as recent as November 2006. There may have been more, but those are the two I remember; check the FAC review for more information.-- 02:47, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah yes, the references and the prose; I kept on getting so mad during that discussion because of them, but put up with it because I know it would improve the article. At this point, I think I would need help from the League of Copyeditors to copyedit the entire article and then try to find additional, more reputable sources for information that isn't sourced. In the mean time, I've put it on hold for a bit while I work on a few other articles I've been trying to improve, such as Kashimashi and List of Kashimashi episodes which are currently up for GAC and FLC respectively. I definately haven't given up on SP! though, and some day that article will be FA, even if it kills me.-- 03:05, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you disagree with that category?
If that is a deactivated page, where is the stuff supposed to be posted now? Haiduc 01:37, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Your "debunking" of Naomi Wood was very lame and does not bode well for your course work. As for Jesus and John, I was very surprised to see the article survive, the intellectual integrity of wiki editors never ceases to surprise me. But maybe I am jaded, after three years or so on the project.
I will be happy to collaborate on one or another article, as I have in the past - you may not have noticed. But since it is a given that I am interested in homosexual topics, and likewise that my time is limited, I have made it my business to work on articles outside the "ghetto." That's why I spend my time at Lion or at Courtship or Apple or any other subject that would not normally come to mind when one thinks of "gay," because this side of human nature has been so thoroughly effaced that we have forgotten how ubiquitous it really is. And when I do edit in the ghetto, I edit on those streets where nobody likes to go because they stink and they are dangerous, like Pederasty. So, while I do accept your invitation to work on some FAs, let me challenge you to un-censor a number of articles that should mention same-sex love but do not. That work is just as valuable, if not more. Haiduc 02:36, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
With all due respect, Haiduc, your editing is almost exclusively done on Pederasty. There is nothing wrong with that, but you paint it as a valiant effort to get your hands dirty where nobody else dares. Instead, it appears just to be a topic of primary interest to you, which is why you edit it heavily. I also disagree with The Happy Little Prince's inclusion in Victorian Pederasty, and I find some of your edits to be of dubious quality in this area, such as the time you tried to keep a little boy in a bear suit on the Bears article. You might want to temper your desire to cast the pederasty net as far and wide as possible because I think at times it affects your judgment. --David Shankbone 04:05, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
With all due respect David, allow me to question your judgment when you associate a non-erotic photograph depicting Eastern European Christmas traditions with pederasty. I thought it was a lovely picture and fascinating culturally, saying many, many things. I am disappointed that you, a photographer yourself, are relating to it as a schoolmarm.
And as for my edition of pederastic topics, yes, I do think that it is valuable to the gay community, much of which has been browbeaten into repudiating its main connection with history and culture. As I point out elsewhere, the area I am working in has been claimed by three different groups, only to be distorted by each for its purposes. The boy lovers have claimed it, falsifying its history to make it appear that the Greeks and others loved little children, to justify their doing the same. They will not be happy with the evidence I repeatedly document, which indicates the relationships were principally with adolescents.
It has also been claimed by those men styling themselves "heterosexual," who relate to their repressed instincts by styling it an "aberration." They will not be amused to have it appear that cultural values in other times were such that heterosexuality itself was an aberration, with men widely acknowledging the attraction of youth whether or not they succumbed to that desire.
And it has been co-opted by some in the gay community as well, who find it convenient to use men in legitimate, lawful relationships with youth who have come of age as a scapegoat, tossing them into a bonfire of the vanities in a hypocritical auto da fe so as to purchase more lebensraum for whatever floats their boat (and I will avoid a critique of modern homosexuality here, it has been well done by others in our community). But they are cutting off their own head, as some of our own thinkers have pointed out - the braver and more honest ones, in my humble opinion.
As for the "charges" that you, Dev, have kindly posted on my page -- that is interesting news indeed. You say that ...I've seen your posts to Passion Histoire, read your comments across the Internet about pederasty on the strangest of websites (the Hindu forums?) and noted that your Bebo account's friends are all under 18. It is interesting in two respects. First of all, I have no idea what you are talking about. I suggest two possibilities. 1.Individuals reading my work here are making use of my name so as to inflate their own self-importance. 2.Individuals opposed to my work here are using it in questionable forums so as to discredit me. These things are difficult to refute, but I would imagine that my writing style is difficult to replicate, so that you will either "hear" different voices using my name, or will see bits of my writing lifted wholesale from the Wikipedia. For what it's worth, my time is so taken up with academic, business, literary, charitable and spiritual matters that I simply do not have time (or interest) to be an internet denizen in anything but the Wikipedia, grosso modo. Furthermore, my rich social life is emphatically NOT on line (and is quite legal, thank you very much! It is also ethical, and has not infected anyone with anything, except perhaps laughter in this humorless age). You do us both a disservice to bandy about such charges without proper verification, least of all with myself. It is also interesting in that you are encountering "me" across the internet. Is it because you are looking for me, or is it because you yourself are a member of those forums? Are you carrying on with others a conversation about me in my absence? Why? Don't you think that your concerns would be most appropriately addressed in an open forum, such as this one, rather than in a hidden inquisition, whether collective or solitary?
You also do us both - as well as the cause of gay history - a disservice by your derogatory comments vis-a-vis my edits to "unrelated" articles. It is not my penchant for posting pictures of adolescents that drives those edits, but my belief that gay history should not be relagated to an academic closet. Time and time again I have been told that we should be good faggots and play in the little area that we have been allowed to develop, and keep our filthy history out of more serious realms. But that was the reaction of homophobes busy purging out non-straight matter from their pet articles. But you? The "head" of the gay pages?! I have much more to say but time is short and other matters pressing. If you like we can pursue this further another time. Haiduc 11:55, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That was some of the more bombastic writing I think I've seen on this website (which says a lot). A boy in a bear suit is not appropriate "cultural context" on an article about bears, whether you think that schoolmarmism or not. I have travelled extensively and seen humans dressed as every kind of animal during Halloween in the United States, Carnival of Venice and those found in Spain. The relationship of humans to animals may be deserving of its own article, but the notion we should start putting up photos of adolescents dressed as every kind of ape, bird, tiger or bear on those animals' pages is simply not appropiate. I realize you like the boy in the bear costume, but I again urge you to temper your pederastic interest to not infuse it into every seemingly tangentially-related article that exists. You should spend some time on the pages Anchoring, Clustering illusion and Confirmation bias. --David Shankbone 14:16, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
David, if I am ever in need of an editor to tone down my florid prose I will be sure to look you up. And I have to confess that I have been amused all day at the way you sexualized that poor child. Next thing you know you will have us believe you thought the boy ugly. Perhaps we could agree to not dump our projections on each other, what do you say?
Dev, I think it would be a mark of mutual respect between you and me to agree to disagree. I have a great deal of admiration for your boundless energy, and your gentle cajoling ways, and even for your occasionally sharp tongue. But I see things from a different perspective, which maybe comes from being on the brink of old age - not that age is a guarantor of anything except death. Your position that gay topics should be compartmentalized and not intrude on other articles is not one that makes sense to me. Might as well try to keep pictures with lots of red in them strictly for the article on red. My insertion of the gay aspect in other articles (such as some of the more notable animals) I see as a service to our readers. You say many animals display homosexual behavior? So what?! You might as well demand the elimination of sections on reproduction in all animal articles because, after all, all animals reproduce. You wish to restrict yourself to the ghetto? Be my guest, but don't ask me to join you.
As for your repeated insistence that I appear elsewhere on the net, with the same song and under the same pseudonym, I would not even bother to look into it except you have whetted my curiosity. So I Googled the French site. This is what I get: "Your search - "Passion Histoire" haiduc - did not match any documents." I was disappointed. You are welcome to imagine what you will, but I am sad that you think I would stoop so low as to lie. If I do not want to discuss something I will let you know, but to lie outright strikes me as a bit puerile (in the negative sense of the word of course). Dev, it is the young or those without a life who spend all their time looking for society on the net. I am neither.
Finally, my edits live or die by their quality, as do ours all. I confess that in my early years here I was a bit cavalier, and there remains much that can and should be repaired from those days - not that the material is incorrect, but that it is not properly cited. As I come across such text I try to fix it. The culture here has changed, and I have tried to change with it. But the overall thrust of my contributions is not that far removed from yours. I too wish to see LGBT censorship ended. I simply have a more inclusive view of what that term stands for, and I think that there is more to gain in the long term by telling things as they are, even though I agree that in the short run it makes matters politically more difficult. Many scholars agree with me (as I am sure you are well aware of) even though Halperin may not be among them. I bet fifty years from now he will be seen as the Lysenko of the LGBT movement. Dance on my grave if I am wrong. Haiduc 01:19, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

EA mediation, poetry question

[edit]

Hi Dev, thanks for your comments on the Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Mediation page. There's actually a purpose behind this message: I recently joined the poetry WikiProject, and I was wondering about notability guidelines for poems, as well as what you do with poems in another language.

I've slowly been working on the various Lais of Marie de France. I hope that Wikipedia is inclusive enough to allow articles on each of the twelve poems in this collection. The poems are long enough that (several hundred lines each) that their text isn't included in the articles that I have written. The poems are written in the Anglo-Norman language, and currently I've only been linking to English translations when I find them. Is there any preference whether the translations should come from Wikisource or other sites? Currently there aren't any translations of these poems on Wikisource, and some of them don't seem to have online translations at all. In the (probably far) future, I might do my own translations, but don't get your hopes up. One more thing: are there any particularly good poetry articles you could mention as models to emulate? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

P.S. Messages like this illustrate your point about how a sense of community arises organically, from the bottom-up, born from shared interests, as opposed to top-down. --Kyoko 00:24, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestions. If you've followed my contributions, you'll notice that I tend not to linger much on any one article, but I do want to help the Poetry project. We'll see what happens. Thanks again. --Kyoko 21:17, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sam Boardman-Jacobs

I was wondering if you could have a quick look at the above article. He is a playwright whose subject matter includes people Jean Genet, Violette Leduc, Constantine Cavafy and Federico Garcia Lorca. For the moment I haven't made any mention of their sexuality in the article but I feel that it is probably necessary information for readers unfamiliar with these writers. If someone from the LGBT Project could add what information would be appropriate, and check any categories / internal links relevant, that would be really helpful. Firstly I'm about to break out in laughter at your comment, you have a serious ego problem ("until you saw I was working on the article") - redux: I've long been interested in Desperate Housewives, which I could prove.. but I don't need to, you assuming I'm concerned over the image because of "you".. well that's just laudable! Addendum: Yes I do indeed care about the image, articles should use the best possible image (which yours isn't as you've yet to refute that it doesn't represent the character), which I agree the jpg isn't the best -- it's still much better than the junk you're inserting without consensus. Ah, OK- so he modelled as part of publicity for the programme. Mmm- borderline then. I can see why people might prefer a shot of him in the programme. I've joined the LGBT project

[edit]

Hi Dev, a certain comment on the Esperanza Mediation page motivated me to formally join the LGBT project. I guess it's partly to protest what was said, but being straight (and hopefully not narrow) and Catholic, I didn't want certain comments to reflect on what all Catholic heterosexuals believe. I don't yet know what the level of my participation will be with the project, but I'm willing to help, at least on a casual basis. I can help translate, if need be, or copyedit. As you've no doubt noticed, I don't linger much on any one article, but I'm willing to help from time to time.

Could you please arrange it so that I get just the link rather than the whole newsletter? Thank you, and have a good day. --Kyoko 21:48, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To be fair to Ed, you've made a few comments in the past that could be seen as ageist. I understand that everybody makes mistakes and that nobody is perfect, and people sometimes say things in the heat of the moment.
I'm sorry that you've faced rude behaviour on and offline. I was unsure whether or not to state my sexual orientation, but I decided to say it because LGBT rights and homophobia shouldn't be thought of as "gays only" issues. They're human rights issues, the same way that sexism and racism and should concern all people. I'm glad that you understood the intent behind my signing up, and I hope that one day the world will be a kinder, more tolerant place. --Kyoko 00:05, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Dev, I'm not in the mood to press the issue, I just would not personally have brought up the issue of age in the first place. Perhaps we can just all agree that Ed is very passionate about his views on Esperanza, and leave it at that.
To give this message some semblance of helping to build the encyclopedia, here's a question for you: would creative works by LGBT artists and writers fall under the scope of the LGBT project, i.e. should they be tagged with the project template? One author I like is Marcel Proust, whose In Search of Lost Time has some fascinating insights into gender identity (and everything else, really).
P.S. Please look at my proposal at the bottom of the Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Mediation page, I hope it will be satisfactory to all parties. --Kyoko 12:49, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What you said about the project tagging makes sense, and my proposal on the EA page was really more something to placate Ed than anything else, because he is the only person I know of who still wants to change the essay. --Kyoko 16:31, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Anime and manga articles

[edit]

Hi, I just happened to see your post at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anime and manga. I'm sorry it went unanswered! Personally, I don't think anyone over there is actually opposed to the suggestion in principle. I think the main issue is a matter of resources, especially citations and time. Good citations are difficult to find for most titles except Evangelion and the like, particularly for topics falling under the proposed task force. (I think you might have run across that problem with Strawberry Panic!). Then there's the issue of time availability. Combined, I don't know that the proposed task force would have gotten much done beyond copy-editing, if that. (The experience with the weekly collaboration was sobering.) Now, there's good scope for one or two big articles on gay and lesbian issues in anime and manga, and on those the two projects should confer, but I'm unsure about the viability of something permanent. Anyway, that was long-winded. Sorry again.--Monocrat 23:02, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your Recent Welcome

[edit]

Dear Dev920 -- Thank you for your recent welcome. To answer your question: I am not certain just how it was I became aware of Wikipedia -- but I am certain I was aware of it some months before my students began to employ it, largely uncritically, in their work. Since it doesn't seem practical any longer to insist that they verify all information they derive from Wikipedia, I felt I should at least make an honest effort to make those areas I know something about as accurate as possible. Over the summer I hope to begin work on Russian poetry entries, starting with Mikhail Kuzmin, and perhaps on Russian grammar topics as well. I may tackle the Spanish poet Luis Cernuda, too, since I have studied him for many years.

A couple sentences of net-biography: since 1996 I've been a denizen of alt.callahans, a newsgroup on usenet based on the SF novels of Spider Robinson, as Pernicious the Musquodoboit Harbour Farm Cat's faithful amanuensis and general factotum. My chief claim to fame in life is that Spider actually made me a minor character in his latest novel, a collaboration with the late Robert A. Heinlein entitled Variable Star -- I'm on pp. 213-216 -- not that I'm counting, you understand... ;-)

Best wishes, and once again, thank you for your welcoming note.

WP:MANGA and WP:LGBT intersection

[edit]

I just noticed your post regarding a potential joint taskforce for the editing of articles that fall under the scope of both wikiprojects, and thought you deserved a response since it sounds like a reasonable idea to me even though I wouldn't be interested in it myself. If you want more accurate feedback, you should try asking about the taskforce idea on Talk:Yaoi or Talk:Yuri (animation), since the editors who watch those pages would be the ones contributing to the relevant articles.

In explanation, the difficulty you mentioned of writing pieces on anime/manga for people unacquainted with them goes a bit further than you may have thought. Within the anime and manga articles, even a "master" of one series will know next to nothing about a series that they have not read, so editors can often only effectively work on stuff they are fans of. Because of this, in practice WP:MANGA is actually several hundred sub-projects run off of individual series talk pages, and general announcements to the Wikiproject often have minimal results if they don't effect everyone. --tjstrf talk 22:23, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dev920: Exams? What are you doing? I'm a PhD student, and although I don't have exams, I do have to take one big qualifying exam (next year), which is a bear. Who wields me, wields the world! 08:29, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And one question: how do you add a "separate references" section? Where are these references housed? The instructions for this in the Help areas are very bad, and don't give a clue. On "Philosophy of History," which I work on sometimes, there is a References section, and then that little tag ==References==. But I don't know where the references are actually kept. Currently the References and Additional Reading are separate, but in fact several books from Additional Reading are used as references in the article. I know you can create References and just list the ones you have, but I should know about this separate folder or hiding place where the references can be kept.

Templates

[edit]

Hi Dev

Do you know how to make a template? Specifically, the "R from misspelling" template does not work if it's listed as "R from Misspelling" (uppercase M). Therefore, I'd like to make a new template with the uppercase M that does the same thing as the one with the lowercase m. This is so the next time I type "R from Misspelling" I'm not left wondering what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks :-)

PS: Congratulations on the many new adoptions lol!

[edit]

Hi Dev, I understand your frustrations, but I'm still hopeful that Ed can be convinced that the mediation is not urgent, and moreover that it is not important when compared to other things. I also want to make him understand why dictating what other people must do on their talk pages is wrong. --Kyoko 16:15, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If need be, I will withdraw from the mediation, but I'm not yet at that point. As an observation, the entire dispute might have been avoided if the essay were restricted solely to entirely factual content, such as:
Esperanza was a Wikipedia association founded on 12 August 2005. After an initial deletion discussion in November 2006, and a subsequent deletion discussion in December 2006, Esperanza was decentralised in January 2007. This result was upheld in a deletion review later that month. Some programs that were formerly part of Esperanza now exist as independent projects, as listed on the talk page.
This text is entirely factual and avoids any talk about what Esperanza tried to do or how well or badly it met its goals. Readers of this essay would have to read the linked texts in order to decide whether or not Esperanza was a good or bad idea. Strictly speaking, this essay would not fit Messedrocker's desired goals for the essay because this text doesn't say anything about Esperanza's philosophy, nor does it warn against bureaucracy. Nonetheless, this text is completely verifiable and devoid of opinion. I might post this on the mediation page. --Kyoko 18:57, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's why I mentioned this on your talk page first and not on the mediation page. I think the best thing to do would be to stick to Steve Block's text, correcting it for the governance structure as Ed pointed out (2 tranches, not 3), and either protect it, or (and you may not like this suggestion) page ban the three of us from any future edits to the essay once the agreed-upon text goes "live", in order to avoid any future conflicts. I know you don't want to keep changing the essay, and neither do I, so I hope that my suggestion doesn't offend. --Kyoko 19:20, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry for adding to your stress. I will say, both on the mediation page and on Ryan's talk page that I feel it is best to put the corrected version of Steve's text on the Esperanza main page and indefinitely protect it. Since this is the only text that we three have agreed upon, any further edits will more than likely lead to another edit war. I'm fully prepared to walk away from the essay once the agreed upon version is posted. I'm sure you feel the same way. --Kyoko 19:46, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

copy of what I posted on EA mediation page, move to close and indef protect Steve Block's corrected text

[edit]

Hi Dev, this is a copy of what I posted on the Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Mediation page:

Now that Dev, Ed, and myself seem to have agreed upon Steve's text, as modified to list 2 and not 3 tranches, I move that the text be moved to the main Esperanza page, and more importantly, that it be indefinitely protected to avoid any future edit wars. I know that the idea of indefinitely protecting a page may be controversial. As an alternative, I'm willing to banned from any future editing of the Esperanza essay once the mutually agreed upon text is posted, if that is what it takes to conclude this dispute. I can't speak for Dev or Ed if they would be equally willing to walk away once the essay is posted.

I know that I said on Ed's talk page that the mediation can wait, while he has insisted on mine that it can't. Considering that this mediation would seem to have fulfilled its purpose, i.e. finding a mutually acceptable essay to describe Esperanza, I am convinced that we (Dev, Ed, and myself) would likely be unable to develop the essay any further without disagreement. Ed is determined to make further changes to the Steve Block text; Dev is determined to leave it as is, due to academic demands. Both editors are equally convinced that they are upholding what they see as community consensus. I see no possible compromise between these two positions, which is why I am now advocating posting the mutually agreeable text and protecting it indefinitely. --Kyoko 20:39, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

LGBT missing articles list

[edit]

I started work on the lists, from the sources you gave me, and found fairly quickly that the matter of nonstandardized names would probably wind up being problematic. Variant spellings of names make it very hard to determine whether an existing article with a similar name might be related to a given subject, even for some people who have died only recently. Given my own comparative lack of knowledge of the subject, I found myself questioning whether a given article might describe a given entry on one of the lists you gave me several times. I remember trying to assess and tag those articles I found with your banner, when I had sufficient evidence to think they described the same person, but quickly realized that my own ignorance of the subject would maybe make the list I made, with maybe unusual variant names, as much of a problem as a solution. I believe I still have the list I started available somewhere, but I myself began to question the reliability of it. If you wanted, I could find it and try to expand it, but am much less than certain that it would be of any real functional value to you. John Carter 23:28, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see. Ambitious! I'm all for the meta project. To be honest, at the es:wiki project we discussed having referenced lists of LGBT people like we do here, but we feel we have nowhere near enough manpower to pull it off, so we just let it drop for the moment. I completely support looking for free images for biographies. We don't have FU at es:wiki, and it's been hell trying to find images to illustrate our articles. We have been doing a sort of FA preparation/peer review process that I've been wanting to write down as an essay as a FAQ about FAC sort of thing. I could translate it and bring it here, and we could discuss and improve it. Oh, btw, some of us (members of the project) are having a sort of get-together in a week, for the Europride event in Madrid. Coming? ;-) Raystorm (¿Sí?) 16:24, 22 June 2007 (UTC)Well, at least exams are over! ;-) Congrats anyway! Still want to go for Theology?[reply]

Dev920. Thanks for your reply. To bad you can't make it, it could be a lot of fun--Taipei is on the wild side, and the students and programmers etc. that come to this conference could be full of energy. My idea is actually relatively straightforward. Applying Edelman's theory fits Wikipedia so nicely, it just seems to fall together. I am, however, excited by this, and I hope I get a good chance to speak. They have not decided on the formats and speakers yet. I posted another "call for suggestions" on Wikipedia Village Pump Proposals, which I hope is okay, and can generate some interest and feedback.
