The Beauty Myth: Revisited moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to The Beauty Myth: Revisited. Unfortunately, it is not ready for publishing because it needs more sources to establish notability and Primarily sourced to the work itself or its predecessor; or to another Wikipedia article on the predecessor work (and Wikipedia articles are not themselves reliable sources).. Your article is now a draft where you can improve it undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. TJRC (talk) 20:10, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Beauty Myth

[edit]

Hello. I see that you are a student working on Wikipedia as part of a class assignment. You moved the page you were working on to the main encyclopedia, however it has since been moved to draft space. You can find it at Draft:The Beauty Myth: Revisited.

There were several issues with it that made it not an appropriate encyclopedia article, not the least of which is that it appears to duplicate our existing article on The Beauty Myth. We try to avoid having multiple articles about the same topic, which we call content forks. If you are writing about a different work than The Beauty Myth, you did not make that clear in your text.

Another problem is the tone of the writing. It's written more in the style of an essay rather than an encyclopedia article. This is something new users, and especially students, often struggle with. Careful adherence to citing sources after every statement can help with that, as at that point you are ensuring that you are only saying things your sources have said, rather than contributing original thought.

Speaking of sources, you cited the existing Wikipedia article extensively. Wikipedia does not consider itself a reliable source as it is user-generated content. Even a more traditional encyclopedia such as the Encyclopedia Britannica is rarely considered an acceptable source as encyclopedias are tertiary sources, and thus should primarily cite secondary sources.

I think that, rather than writing a whole new article, it would be better for you to incorporate some of the sources and information from them that you have used in this draft into the existing article on The Beauty Myth. Let me know if you need help with that.

Lastly, while it's now in draft space, the article will eventually be deleted if it is not edited for a period of 6 months. If you would me to, I can move it back to your user space (where you originally had it), so that it doesn't have that 6 month timer on it. If it does get deleted as a stale draft and you ever want it back, be aware you can always ask for it at requests for undeletion. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 20:38, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of The Beauty Myth: Revisited

[edit]

Hello Desiraewiki,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username ONUnicorn, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged an article that you started, The Beauty Myth: Revisited, for deletion, because there's already a page about that topic at The Beauty Myth. Please don't be discouraged; we appreciate your effort in creating new articles. To avoid this in the future, consider using the search function to find pages that already cover what you want to write about.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|ONUnicorn}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

It has been deleted as a duplicate of an existing article. If you want it restored to your user space or to draft space so that your professor can grade it or so you can use information from it in expanding the existing article on The Beauty Myth, let me know. However, as I said above, it was not acceptable in mainspace for several reasons. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 12:50, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would appreciate it being restored to my user space or to draft space so that I may expand upon the existing article, The Beauty Myth, there was a mistake on my end. Desiraewiki (talk) 14:10, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, it's back at User:Desiraewiki/The Beauty Myth. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:29, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The beauty myth contribution

[edit]

Hi @Desiraewiki, I noticed your contribution for the The Beauty Myth is back in your sandbox. Keep in mind that an article on The Beauty Myth already exists. In addition, you contribution reads a lot like essay. You have to keep in mind, Wikipedia is not a place to publish your ideas or conclusions about a topic. That’s considered “original research,” and is not allowed on WIkipedia. This means your writing for Wikipedia will summarize what other people/sources have said about a topic, so that a Wikipedia reader can get an overview of the current thoughts and understanding of that topic. The goal is to provide a neutral, fact based summary of the topic at hand, not to persuade the readers about the book.

A place to start to address this concern, is to go over the content and make sure that a reliable source can support or back up each sentence that you have in the article. So that if any reader wants to check if a sentence has accurate information, they can click on the inline citation and find that information in the cited source. This will help you see what text can remain and what text is fluff or original research, and can then be removed.

After you address these concerns then you can contribute to the existing article. If you need a refresher on how to do this, please review this training module. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:36, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop. If you continue to violate Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy by adding commentary and your personal analysis into articles, as you did at The Beauty Myth, you may be blocked from editing. Almost all of us, when we start editing Wikipedia, know little or nothing about Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, so nobody can be blamed for starting out doing things that are contrary to policies and guidelines that they don't know about. However, continuing to do the same things after being told about the relevant policies and guidelines is a different matter. The message above from Brianda made it perfectly clear that what you had written in your sandbox was unsuitable for an article, but you ignored that, and posted into the article an unambiguous personal essay aimed at promoting your opinions on the subject. JBW (talk) 09:56, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Desiraewiki, please keep your work in the sandbox and address the concerns I stated in my message above. You contribution does not need to be on the mainsapce to be graded, if that is a concern. I'll loop in your instructor to make sure they are aware.
Thanks @JBW for catching that and describing what needs improvement in the their contribution. Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:10, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Desiraewiki. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "The Beauty Myth".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 17:29, 18 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
