Please...
[edit]...could you keep a closer look on WP: gd for the next couple of days? There is some spamming going on there from Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Bambifan101 and I'm not around all the time. Thanks in advance, Sionnach --88.77.191.171 (talk) 20:57, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
- Will do. -- Derek Ross | Talk 23:48, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Derek Ross! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 244 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:
- Della Jones - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
Thanks!--DASHBot (talk) 09:22, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- Dear Bot. there is in fact a source for all the material in the article at the bottom of the article. Unfortunately you are too limited to understand this. -- Derek Ross | Talk 16:48, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Sleep, perchance to dream.
[edit]Do you suffer from insomnia too or are you on a different time zone? Jack forbes (talk) 04:17, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Ha! You've gone back to your kip then. Never mind, I'm off to make a nice cup of tea and try and get some zzz's in. :) Jack forbes (talk) 04:40, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- As it says on my user page, I live in Canada nowadays, Jack. So yes, I'm in a different timezone. I'm seven hours behind you, so I've been out shopping, had my tea and I've just finished watching the telly and am thinking of bedtime myself. I never suffer from insomnia, quite the reverse actually. But I sympathise with those that do. So how come you were up so late ? Too much coffee ? -- Derek Ross | Talk 05:11, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- You know how it is (or maybe not), you go to bed, stare at the ceiling, get up for a cuppa, go to bed, stare at the ceiling and so on. They do say the older you get the less sleep you need. I must be ancient! Jack forbes (talk) 05:32, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- Well like I say, I have more difficulty in staying awake during the day than in getting to sleep at night but I'm sorry to hear that you have the opposite trouble. I guess that you must get through quite a few books in a year ! How does it make you feel the next day ? -- Derek Ross | Talk 06:16, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- Surprisingly not too bad considering. As for books, I have boxes and boxes of them almost all of whom I've read twice or more. I could open a second hand book shop without needing to buy in stock. Jack forbes (talk) 10:58, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

G&S
[edit]I'm about ready to submit Rupert D'Oyly Carte for GA review. Please let me know if you have any comments/corrections on the article. Thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 14:59, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
Hi, Derek. The article is coming along nicely. Would you kindly add a citation to the sources you consulted, including dates and page numbers? Thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:43, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
- Okay then. But it's still just the Joseph McLaughlin reference which is already mentioned at the foot of the article. -- Derek Ross | Talk 23:52, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
WikiProject Georgism or WikiProject Geoism?
[edit]Hi Derek,
I posted a message on an LVT discussion group about starting a Georgism WikiProject, and here's one of the responses I got:
I am not much interested in Georgism, which sounds like a personality cult that only concerns itself with Henry George, what he did, what he wrote, what he meant by it, etc. As long as we consent to portray land rent recovery as "Georgism," the opposition will gladly shift the discussion from liberty, justice and truth to Henry George, and portray advocates of land rent recovery as nothing but the Henry George Fan Club. We will NEVER succeed as long as we are content to be called, "Georgists." Take it to the bank.
If you want to start a Wikiproject on geoism, OTOH, I would be in.
So what do you think? Would WikiProject Geoism be better? EPM (talk) 11:35, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- I don't think it makes much difference. Let me explain. Speaking as a Georgist, the poster makes a valid point. Speaking as a Wikipedian, he doesn't. That's because, as a Georgist, he's interested in the future success of Georgism, which as he rightly says, is partly held back by the uninformative name. From that point of view the term geoism would definitely be an improvement, no question, despite the fact that it's still pretty uninformative. Unfortunately from the Wikipedian point of view we are just as interested in the history of the movement as we are in its present and future. The use of the term geoism to us would mean that we were not using the most common name for the movement. Moreover we would not be using the historical term either. The term "geoism" was coined relatively recently and its use for some of our articles would be anachronistic.
- So that's the big picture from the Wikipedian POV, which is the one we must adopt for writing articles. Having said all that I don't think that WP:UCN applies to WikiProject names, so if changing the name to WikiProject Geoism is going to bring in hordes of willing editors, I've no objection. -- Derek Ross | Talk 18:09, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Derek! How pronounce in the family name Rioch letter "I" and letter "O"? The letters "CH" pronounce like "CH" in Loch Ness or not? Прон (talk) 14:03, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

ORVYL and WYLBUR article updates
[edit]I'm happy to work on the ORVYL and WYLBUR article, but I'm not really all that knowledgeable about them and so it would be good to have others, hopefully more knowledgeable than I, review my changes. I suspect that it will take me two or three days to get my changes made. Jeff Ogden (talk) 04:42, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
