Thanks! Brief notes: Kenmore doesn't actually have a main street right now. The pre-war one was turned into a highway, and I can't even shoot that because it's about to become a massive reconstruction project to try to fix some of the idiocies of the expansion, and the new main street (one block north) is similarly about to be completely ripped up as part of that big project. And the idea of "Kenmore" and "Culture" together in the same sentence makes me laff, but I'll see what I can do. Climate, on the other hand - that, we have. ^_^

Hum, I just saw another bit - those photos aren't of countryside, particularly. The shot that's in the city box is... pretty much the densest part of town, and is just off what used to be main street before it became SR-522. It's kind of a problem in terms of shooting really any town in the Cascadian bioregion that isn't large enough to have skyscrapers - all the shots look rural, because so much grows so quickly up here. Maybe I can explain that in the Climate subsection that I'm going to have in Geography. Thanks again! Solarbird 00:16, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

The history section is very well-developed, but the prose can be choppy at times, and it's divided awkwardly into several sections. The history section should tell the story of the city from the time it is first established to present day.

Instead, it seems to deviate into some discussion on salt production (which might better be suited for the economy section), to two uncited sentences on historical townships, to population changes, and then finally gets back into the 19th and 20th centuries. I think it might be better to include fewer subsections here, and just tell the story of the town.

In many ways salt is the story of the town, is why it developed from the Roman period until the early 19th century, however given that there is a History of salt in Middlewich page elsewhere I will cut this down

Promote the demographics section (should be just after history). Expand this and provide more references. Where did this demographic data come from? Simply saying 'data from the 2001 census' is not sufficient; whose census, provide a link to the census on the web, if available.

I've removed the comment, since the links to the 2001 census are in the next sentence.

The landmarks section would best be moved to a 'culture' section as a subsection on 'cultural attractions'. Describe some of the main cultural attractions in the city, and include photos. 'Places of interest' can be moved into this section as well.

Media & sports should probably also be subsections under 'culture' as well.

Wikipedia:WikiProject_UK_geography/How_to_write_about_settlements suggests its under Present Day

'Economics' - change to 'economy' and expand beyond its two sentences. 'Retail/commerce' can come under the 'economy' section as well. As a matter of fact, most of the subsections under 'present day' should be moved to other areas - I have yet to see such a section in any article on any city, yet.

What is the purpose of the picture of a seat in the Roman theatre? A single seat? Huh? the stage might be better here,...

It's not really that kind of theatre, it's a tiered semicircle of stone steps, the seat is on the top.

'Transport' should be a main section unto itself. 'Schools' should also be in a main section as well, probably call it 'education'.

You might move the 'in literate' main section to a subsection under 'culture'. More should probably be written here than just reproducing two quotes.

Damn I hate that template

Just thought I'd let you know that I'm not too big of a fan of the {{WikiProjectBanners}} template. I believe it's meant to keep important boilerplates (such as {{controversial}}) more prominent than the WikiProject ones; but then again the small=yes parameter also does the same thing. On some talk pages it works fine (such as Talk:Fuzzy Zoeller), but on others it adds another level of nesting to WikiProject templates that have their own collapsable box. Also, way to go on bringing Criticism of Wal-Mart to GA status! Tuxide 18:46, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

What irony [1]...well, you just stay over there and work on that Wal-Mart article and I'll stick with Target Corporation :P Seriously, not too many articles on WikiProject Retailing's scope is even assessed. I would modify our template to include assessment params but only if we were asked to do that WP:WVWP thing. I believe they ask select WikiProjects once a year. Jamestown proposal to improve

There have been many comments the Jamestown, Virginia article being just too big. After giving it a lot of thought, I think we could break out a major part of it into a sub-article, perhaps entitled "History of Jamestown Settlement", essentially covering the 17th century period, ending when the capital moved to Williamsburg. As a WP admininsitrator, I have the tools to do this and preserve the talk page and history, etc., but I surely do not want to move on it unilaterally. This is an important piece of WikiProject Virginia. Can we have some comments about this approach, please?

2005 Texas Longhorn football team

Hello, thank you again for starting your review of 2005 Texas Longhorn football team. As suggested by WP:SUMMARY, since the article was long, I have now split off two of the more famous games into their own articles. When measured accoridn to WP:SIZE (ingnoring the text of templates, references, etc) the readable text of the article is now down below 60kb. I put a draft at User:Johntex/Sandbox3 to confirm the size of the plain text.

The template refers to a talk page but nothing is there yet. Glad you finally relented on the section-ordering stuff (culture, et al). I think you'll find it perfectly acceptable. If I had my druthers, I'd call those sections "[city name] in popular culture" (there really is no hard and fast rule against repeating the subject of the article in section titles), but I can certainly live with things the way they are now. Cocoa Beach Assessment

I noticed that Cocoa Beach was rated as "low" as a place less than 200,000 (correct) with no event covered by national news media. Actually, we did have a bunch of space launches covered from here. I Dream of Jeanie was supposed to take place here. Once episode was actually filmed. Notoriously, a condo fell while under construction here - made national news. See Harbor Cay Condominium. Hello. This is regarding your edits to the Phoenix article. I appreciate your standpoint and can understand your concerns. However, edits such as the ones you made should be discussed in the talk page prior to implementation. Removing the Valley Metro pic as a copyvio ignores WP:FAIRUSE, the link you removed was not spam, and the picture of Glendale Stadium is relevant because it applies to the entire Phoenix metro area, and thus deserves attention in the main Phoenix article. I do agree with the fact that the new estimate that Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the nation needs a citation. I reverted your deletion of that information, but I will revert that change as the official census stats have not yet come out. Of course, if you feel any objection to my reverts of your changes, I will gladly reconsider them. Durham - Town Twinning

Hi there, I have partially reverted your change here, as whilst I agree that you're right about the sister city, you also deleted all the town twinning links. I don't know whether you realise, but town twinning is a completely different organisation, run mainly by the Council of European Municipalities and Regions, and is primarily European-focussed, rather than the US-focussed sister cities programme. As such, town twinning links and sister city links may be completely different, but both valid for inclusion on Wikipedia. Cheers, DWaterson 18:07, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Derek, Thanks for taking the time to review Mamilla for GA. However, I'm a bit confused by your comments. You mentioned that you though that the entry was narrow in its coverage (criterion 3) in that it did not deal with population demographics, governing bodies, transportation, schools, etc., and mostly focused on history. Perhaps the article did not sufficiently convey context (which would be its own problem), but the Jerusalem neighbourhood in question does not really have information about any of those points, as the gist of the article conveys, it did not really exist for much of the last fifty years. Rather it went directly from border slum to being perhaps the longest construction project in the city's history, and during all that time there were no population demographics, governing bodies, transportation, schools, etc. to speak of. Using WikiProject Banner template

My preference is {{WikiProjectBannerShell}} over the one you use. I started to use this on the Norwegian villages when I happened to read its description where it says that it should be used with a minimum of three WikiProjects. Thus, it probably would be better if you stopped using {{WikiProject Banners}} on the Norwegian articles with only two WikiProjects. Anyway, that's my suggestion. __meco 00:10, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Removal of WPCities tag from Norwegian county templates

You've removed the WPCities banner from the talk pages of entries contained in Category:Norway county templates. I think these should have the banner since each template lists all municipalities in the respective county. __meco 07:42, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Assessment criteria

I added the WPCITIES tag to several European (mainly capitals) and English towns and cities. I see that you've rated these for quality and importance. First: hope I haven't spoiled your day by the extra work. Second, how did you know that these were awaiting attention: is there a list? Third, what criteria did you use? From a British perspective, Cambridge might be "high" (size, history, architecture, county and regional administrative centre, academic centre, tourism) while Colchester might be "mid" (history, university and local prominence) and Luton also "mid" (size, local prominence, transport centre, university). Do all national capitals rate as "top"? I'm wary of doing ratings because they're so subjective. Folks at 137 09:05, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your help. Although the importance criteria appear clear, I'm still feeling my way. For instance, I rated Hemel Hempstead as "mid", but you revised this to "low". The criteria for mid says "A population greater than or equal to 200,000, but not a capital. International news coverage by at least two media agencies of an event or disaster." I think we differ on the Biloxi/Hemel Hempstead comparison. With respect, I think it reflects a US-centric viewpoint (unintended, I don't doubt). Speak to most people over here about Katrina and they think "New Orleans" - Biloxi just doesn't register, except perhaps as a humourous name (to English ears). I hadn't even heard of it - certainly not remembered it - in relation to the hurricane. (The degree of local damage or local impact isn't part of the criteria.) It's understandable to hear that you hadn't heard of Hemel (in the UK, certainly in Hertfordshire, Hemel has a "down-market" image) but it's instructive that the explosion at Buncefield hadn't registered with you. For a short while, the town was news around Europe (that's international by our standards: an Italian guy I spoke to said that his family now knew where he lived). The largest peace time explosion in Europe - heard in the Netherlands and France, CNN covered it world-wide - with wider implications for the oil industry. I wonder what has to happen in Europe (or elsewhere) to be of interest in the US - obliteration of a country, death of a US tourist? (How would you rate Bhopal? It hadn't even been added to the project.) I don't argue here that Hemel's importance should be upgraded, just that the importance criteria should be capable of objective application (as it appeared for cities) and applied objectively (which I now have doubts about).

My suggestion of US-centricity (of wiki generally, not just the cities project) is further emphasised by the project inclusion of every obscure location in some US states while some international capitals, eg Jakarta, and other real centres of > 1 million inhabitants, eg, Lagos, are overlooked. It's an indication of priorities. Ratings are a real minefield, I've tried to keep clear of them, but these ones appeared fairly clear and so I dabbled. New Article Improvment page for WP:VIRGINIA

Seeing as our old Collaborations page at WP:VIRGINIA had no activity in the past year it was decided to replace it with a new Article Improvement/Request Help page that would allow members to list articles in need of attention. Suntree

A Wikiproject City banner was placed on the talk page of Suntree, Florida. This article is, unfortunately, about a development which is unincorporated with no real boundaries, I suppose. It is part of Brevard County right now. Some or all of it might incorporate later or maybe join Melbourne. They have no government beyond the county. No real history beyond that of the developer, etc. They are a census designated place. That's about it. Student7 18:36, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

1 - there is really no way to make the files section public, nor would it be a smart thing to do as walmart & it's supporters would attempt the screw things up if open access were permitted (You yourself should know that, after reverts on the main "walmart" article). At the very least, I would request that you join and look for yourself - if only to have a 3rd party able to say what it's about. http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/walmartsucks/ Above all, if you only read one file, "walmart vs walmartsucks" should be the one.

2 - Not many people realize that walmart has all those divisions, such as air travel, realty, and so forth. Just thought I would show - using their own website - how they are a closed circuit company.

Harold Pinter GA review

Is there an exact time limit on reviewing before producing results? If so, I was unaware of it. I thought, according to the GA review page, that the process was intentionally informal. Ah I see. Well, this is about my 10th review, and I was just doing research. I left it up so no one would bang up some half-assed review while I was trying to do the job properly.
