Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Dean randall, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Your Assumptions are Wrong

I have not joined wikipedia to vandalise it, as I find that that creates negative vibes. I have joined it so that I may edit articles and become part of the wikipedia community. You can hardly talk, look what u did to that panzer bloke

Your VandalProof Application

Dear Dean randall,

Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that you have numerous personal attacks blocks. Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof. - Glen 10:33, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
  4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!
  5. TangoTango has written a script for a bot that will list new members of Esperanza, which will help those who welcome new Esperanzains greatly!
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

"obtained from burnley site" is not good enough. We need the specific URL. We need to verify its copyright status. It doesn't look like a promotional photogarph to me: see Wikipedia:Publicity photos. There is no rationale. The JPStalk to me 19:30, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
An image that you uploaded, Image:Dave thomas1.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

Why have you given this two tags? If you have ammended an existing copyright image, then it's not allowed. I suspect you got the Santa image from the internet and added two heads on it. The JPStalk to me 19:33, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

AJOF

Yeah; Wikipedia really requries some sort of charting-release or significant media-hype/radio-play for a group. Articles can always be recreated at more appropriate times! Alternatively, if the charity is notable, you could create an article on them and include a sentence or two on the band, whose page could then redirect to the charity. --Robdurbar 20:31, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

MGS3 characters

See Writing about fiction. The general jist is that plot summary and details should be kept to a minimum, instead the article should be filled with stuff like the characters' development (like how The End was originally in MGS2), how fans reacted to them (like how everyone hated Raiden), and their general impact on the real world. What isn't desirable is reams and reams of plot summary (see, for example, The Boss's section in the old article) from an in universe perspective. -- Steel 18:11, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I have seen that you are using the Cacycle editor extension. This program is no longer actively maintained in favor of its much more powerful successor wikEd.

wikEd has all the functionality of the old editor plus: • syntax highlighting • nifty image buttons • more fixing buttons • paste formatted text from Word or web pages • convert the formatted text into wikicode • adjust the font size • and much, much more.

Switching to wikEd is easy, check the detailed installation description on its project homepage. Often it is as simple as changing every occurrence of editor.js into wikEd.js on your User:YourUsername/monobook.js page.

I basically modified D.B's header for you so all the links are yours... if I'm really motivated I might make custom icons for my own use, you'll be welcome to use them too.... as so protecting it, it's its own subpage, but as with the nature of all web code it's impossible to shield it totally... anyway if you have any questions, just talk to me at my page. All your pages have been moved to this user. The status changer is in the same spot, only with "Daz 90". Also, with the above header, it is now located at User:Daz 90/SandboxII, as I had to move it out of the way for your original header. Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 04:13, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Image:Land Rover bike.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Land Rover bike.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 20:47, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Image:Roger1(3).jpg listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Roger1(3).jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. MECUtalk 04:17, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

I nominated for deletion because it is orphaned (OR) which means it is not being used on Wikipedia and I see no encyclopedic value for this image (UE). Wikipedia doesn't need to keep images that aren't being used (there are 90,000+ orphaned images!) and I can't see where this image should be used, since there isn't much information about the image on the page. If it is a picture of you or something that is encyclopedic, then use it, on your userpage or elsewhere as appropriate. If you do nothing, it will likely be deleted Feb. 16th or later. Thank you. --MECUtalk 19:30, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Les ferdinand.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Les ferdinand.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:48, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
