Abu Qatada

[edit]

Hello, I believe my edit to Abu Qatada to be a view shared by all. I do not quite understand your revert. 178.110.232.229 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:56, 28 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

However common that view may or may not be, it's still an opinion, not a fact, and should only be included in the article if backed by a reliable source and appropriately attributed as an opinion. Your edit stated this opinion as a fact, and did not include a supporting reference. DavidLeighEllis (talk) 22:01, 28 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A beer for you!

Guyanese Indian Women Dkshyam (talk) 21:00, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

[edit]

I find the portrayal of our Guyanese Indian woman very defamatory, disparaging and offensive to an Guyanese Indian Community. It is NOT based on historical facts and official government records. Rather, it cites novels where the author blatantly disregards facts to create a fictional view of Guyanese Indian women in order to profit from it. I highly suggest you study Guyana history and the indentured labors before you peruse to be an authority on it. Do not spread propaganda with limited knowledge on the subject matter . Thanks DKShyam.

I assume that you are the same user who made this edit to the article. Please direct further comments to talk:Indo-Guyanese, rather than the main article page. I did not write the article, and will leave any substantive changes to editors more familiar with the subject matter. DavidLeighEllis (talk) 22:38, 30 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2016 Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director Search Community Survey

[edit]

The Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation has appointed a committee to lead the search for the foundation’s next Executive Director. One of our first tasks is to write the job description of the executive director position, and we are asking for input from the Wikimedia community. Please take a few minutes and complete this survey to help us better understand community and staff expectations for the Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director.

Thank you, The Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director Search Steering Committee via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:49, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you don't mind my having a bit of fun at your expense...

[edit]

...but you have to admit it's funny, in a creepy kind of way. [1] EEng 22:16, 11 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am speaking of "highest level" in terms of the largest groupings of people, and "low-level" in terms of smaller sub-categories. Hopefully, rewording the comment to cite additional examples of "highest level" clarifies this. DavidLeighEllis (talk) 22:21, 11 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I just realized that you posted the original repeal proposal, which employed the "coon" wording. While I do not doubt your good faith, you really, really need to pause and review your diction before hitting Save. EEng 00:14, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The Maine Coon is a breed of cat. There's nothing nefarious about it. Anyway, I'm done participating in the RFC; the outcome, which I strongly disagree with, is nonetheless pretty clear. DavidLeighEllis (talk) 01:09, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That you still don't realize why your choice of words (twice!) is severely problematic implies that it's even more important that you pause, review, and think before saving. Nefariousness has nothing to do with it -- it's tone-deafness. You have a knack for saying exactly the wrong thing somehow. EEng 01:20, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for any unintentional offensiveness in my comments in the RFC, and will try to avoid any further edits which raise similar issues. DavidLeighEllis (talk) 01:46, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Good. EEng 03:32, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello David, You are an intelligent man, do you realize that delete Mr. Massimo Rizzoli, a world-renowned martial artist resident in Italy and how to clear the "Giotto" of the martial arts in Italy.

In addition, each ignorant asshole wants to delete the pages and pages without knowing a fuck !!!!!!!!! is not your case, you are a good person.

Please refrain from personal attacks, stop removing the AFD notices, and direct further comments to the AFD discussion. DavidLeighEllis (talk) 01:09, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Report against Sro23

[edit]

Hi, I think you might have misread the changelog in the Admin Intervention against Vandalism page. Sro23 was reverting malicious edits by Gstigler, who kept blanking the page in order to replace it with his own single report. It's not a big deal, but you seem well-established and you'd probably know better than me how to resolve a conflict like this. Have a good day! Jergling (talk) 21:57, 28 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's always a bad idea to remove AIV reports against oneself, even in the process of removing vandalism. But Gstigler shouldn't have removed other reports from the page without cause, either. I'll let the administrators sort this issue out. DavidLeighEllis (talk) 22:05, 28 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ad Astra

[edit]

Good Afternoon David, my edit to the Ad Astra page was in fact intentional. You can see here that the slogan of the Boner Society is indeed Ad Astra. http://www.maximumfun.org/tags/boner-society — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.168.158.100 (talk) 03:04, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

When formulating lists for Wikipedia articles, entries generally need to have a degree of notability, although sometimes less than that required for stand-alone articles, and/or supported by a reliable source. Your "Boner Society" appears to be a blatantly non-notable unincorporated association of a few people that has never received any coverage in the mainstream media. As such, it is not suitable material for inclusion in the Ad Astra article. DavidLeighEllis (talk) 04:33, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

QUESTION

[edit]

Why do you think it's appropriate to cite people as "born to Jewish parents" when it's irrelevant to them? Why not cite people as "born to Catholic parents?" or other religion? Also Jewish is a religion and not an ethnicity, Just ask any rabbi or clergy. I have no idea why wikis believe it's an ethnicity. Maybe you can explain the reason. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.150.246.93 (talk) 01:17, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As our article on the subject indicates, Judaism is not merely a religion, but also a national, cultural, and ethnic identity. Thus, some articles may mention that the subjects are Jewish on the basis of their parentage. DavidLeighEllis (talk) 03:03, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

about bailey thingy

[edit]

content of this article is clearly a troll. it is funny for few seconds, but it disrupts the factual perspective of wikipedia that majority of folks are relying on. Speedy deletion nomination of Pigfucker

[edit]

Hello DavidLeighEllis,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Pigfucker for deletion, because it doesn't seem to have any encyclopedic content.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 08:15, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Keep votes here were not at all convincing for addressing the advert-toned state and instead were saying "It must be notable....even without solid sourcing". This is best relisted and closed by an experienced admin. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SwisterTwister (talkcontribs) 23:39, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The AFD process considers notability in terms of whether there are suitable sources with which to write an acceptable article, not the current POV of the article or present citation of sources. This is the case to avoid deletion of articles, with prejudice to recreation, when the problems of the articles could be solved editorially. DavidLeighEllis (talk) 23:47, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize if you where unclear on each change I made. I was short in brief in my explanations and would have required someone to read the previous reasons for removal of content. Elie Wiesel is deceased. It is therefore not possible to contact him through any conventional technique. DavidLeighEllis (talk) 03:28, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

no, im not taking about the elie wiesel. im talking about the guy they told me about that deletes your wikipedia because it is 'irrelevent or vandalism'. is this the man im talking to that just responded to me? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.3.178.3 (talk) 03:35, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I reverted your edit, because it only serves to summarize the content already present in the article in an informal tone, and contains expressions of opinion such as "really smart" and "pretty cool" which are inconsistent with WP:NPOV.
