Bug report

Hello!

DatBot made this blue file black: File:Gateway Casinos logo.svg.Jonteemil (talk) 18:23, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

I also see that DatBot changes the file size, sometimes quite significantly. See for example File:Auckland Aces logo.svg. Which DatBot more that doubled the file size. If you see Special:ListFiles/RonBot the file size is the same both before and after the reduce in nominal size. Disclaimer: I'm not saying this to complain. Just to make you aware :).Jonteemil (talk) 18:34, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
@Jonteemil: I noticed, that's why I stopped it. The method I used didn't seem to work very well, so I changed it, but then the new version led to this, so I'm trying another one now. Dat GuyTalkContribs 19:14, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
Okay - Jonteemil (talk) 22:01, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

Works better know. The file size still changed at File:Herfy logo.svg though? Does the bot change anything else in the SVG code than height, width and viewBox?Jonteemil (talk) 21:02, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

The file size changed at File:Auckland Aces logo.svg as well. As before this is not to complain, just to make you aware :).Jonteemil (talk) 21:25, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
@Jonteemil: The file size at File:Auckland Aces logo.svg was reduced? In File:Herfy logo.svg, only addition was of width and height. Dat GuyTalkContribs 13:13, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
Yes, in the Auckland Aces logo it was reduced. Was this intentional? My bad with the Herfy logo, that clearly worked well.Jonteemil (talk) 13:20, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
Hi again! It seems as DatBot upscaled File:Barcaldine regional council.svg too much since JJMC89 bot requested file reduction on it.Jonteemil (talk) 18:32, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
The issue was the units for height and width. They were in pt instead of not having units. — JJMC89(T·C) 19:00, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
@JJMC89: I see. Did the problem lie with DatBot or with JJMC89 bot?Jonteemil (talk) 06:55, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
DatBot. My bot uses the dimensions reported by MediaWiki, not the ones in the XML. To fix it, I just removed the units. — JJMC89(T·C) 06:58, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
@JJMC89: Okay, good that I found this during trial of DatBot's bot task. I guess it will have to be accounted for in the code somewhere.Jonteemil (talk) 07:15, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
@JJMC89: I see, I thought about using the MediaWiki values as well. Do SVGs say the default units used anywhere? Dat GuyTalkContribs 12:55, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
Based on this the default is pixels. It looks like the view box can complicate this though. — JJMC89(T·C) 06:30, 26 April 2020 (UTC)

Have you read Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/RonBot 4 and taken to account all the questions there by JoKalliauer?Jonteemil (talk) 18:39, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

RonBot changes filesize for some Bytes (guess average +10 Bytes), but since RonBot 4 it does/did not change the content any more.
I recommend to read User:Ronhjones/SVGreduce, expecially the Reference https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Ronhjones&diff=820815035&oldid=820813215
Changing preview-size should only change the <svg>-tag, not the content.
If you want to reduce file-size (change content) I recomend to read
 — Johannes Kalliauer - contrib. 08:41, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
@JoKalliauer: I am currently scour but will try changing to svgcleaner. The issue with all of these is that they're all command line tools, which I'd rather keep use of to a minimum. Dat GuyTalkContribs 06:02, 8 May 2020 (UTC)
@DatGuy: How do you currently change the preview-size of SVGs? According to User:Ronhjones/SVGreduce ?  — Johannes Kalliauer - contrib. 10:03, 8 May 2020 (UTC)
@JoKalliauer: Yes, that seems right. Dat GuyTalkContribs 10:38, 8 May 2020 (UTC)
Hi again DatGuy. How's it going with the bot task of SVG resizing?Jonteemil (talk) 18:08, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
@Jonteemil: Welp, I thought I already integrated it. I'll do it by Tuesday. Dat GuyTalkContribs 05:01, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
@Jonteemil: Do File:80s on 8 logo.svg and File:Channelv2.svg look good? Dat GuyTalkContribs 21:29, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, I'd say it looks good! I think it should be noted in the edit summary however, that the SVG code is reduced as well as the nominal size change since the change in file size might be confusing otherwise.Jonteemil (talk) 21:42, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
@Jonteemil: Hmm, not sure how to word it. Any suggestions? Dat GuyTalkContribs 21:59, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

"Upscale SVG and cleanup SVG code" should be good I'd say.Jonteemil (talk) 12:16, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

Permission of utilize your Wikipedia files for contribution in Italian Wikipedia

Hi, I'm a Wikipedia user, Italian section. I noticed that you contributed in various pages in an excellent way. To get to the heart of the matter, I'm a fan of DC comics, Marvel and comics in general, and I'm trying to restructure Wikpedia in the pages that deal with that topic. And I thought of beautifying those pages with the same images of English Wikipedia, but unfortunately not all the images are on Wiki Commons and therefore are not always shareable among the wikipedias of other countries. I wanted to ask you, can I have permission to use the images you uploaded yourself on English Wikipedia for Italian Wikipedia and Wiki Commons? It would help me with a lot of work, and obviously I have to give the permission of those who inserted those files, according to the rules of Wikipedia.Pat O'Brien (talk) 17:44, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

@Pat O'Brien: I'm guessing you tried to post this on DatBot's talk page. DatBot is a bot that resizes non-free files to help meet the minimal usage criterion. It doesn't upload any original content. Dat GuyTalkContribs 12:23, 11 July 2020 (UTC)

Adding photos

I created the page, Where Willy Went and can you upload the cover of the book and put it in the infobox for me? And also upload the cover for The Scrambled States of America for me? Gamerknowitall (talk) 03:43, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
