User talk:Dartmikes
June 2022
[edit]Hello Dartmikes. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Draft:Yasin Hacıoğlu, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Dartmikes. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Dartmikes|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Merko (talk) 23:33, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, I do not receive any payment related to this content and regulations. I have been following the person in Turkey and Ghana for a long time. Unfortunately, he does not have a wiki page in Turkey and I wanted to create it in English. Dartmikes (talk) 23:36, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- I see, thank you. In the meantime, please familiarize yourself with WP:GNG, WP:BIO and WP:Manual of Style/Biography. Good luck with your work, Merko (talk) 23:44, 7 June 2022 (UTC)

- Hello, I do not receive any payment related to this content and regulations. I have been following the person in Turkey and Ghana for a long time. - I'm still not super convinced about this particular draft not being a paid creation, but I want to ask the other one now. You have also created Draft:Murat Arık Photographer and Draft:Murat Arik. For what reason other than pure spam did you create this on the Gagauz Wikipedia, in English? ~StyyxTalk? 12:10, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- I'm ready to do whatever it takes to convince me. Yes, I created the photographer Murat Arık page. Because they do this job for a fee in Turkey, they create a title on r10.net and sell wikipedia for money. I am uncomfortable with this situation, I create it in Turkey and users who do it with money delete it directly because we do not pay money. I can send you my e-mail address, phone number, bank documents, whatever you want. I also sent an e-mail to Wikipedia officials, but there was no response. I wanted to create English from here, as this has turned into a currency trade in Turkey. Because Yasin Hacıoğlu does mining work in Turkey, Ghana, Africa, Kenya and many other countries and I think there should be a Wikipedia page. My concern is not to make money, but to convey the right information in the right way. Please help me with this and let's create the Yasin Hacıoğlu page. Dartmikes (talk) 12:22, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, I'm trying to understand the situation. Did any of the subjects of both drafts (Yasin Hacıoğlu and Murat Arık) pay someone on r10.net to have their article created, and after that got scammed, which led to you creating it for them? You can reply in Turkish if it helps (I don't know if you know Turkish). ~StyyxTalk? 12:30, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- No. We did not pay, but when I researched, you cannot create Wikipedia for an important person unless you are a Wikipedian in Turkey. Because those who do this job for money immediately delete the page. I'm so sorry about this. I request you to support me in creating and publishing this page. I'll give you the links, look, they're selling this business this way.

- See, this is how they sell it. Dartmikes (talk) 12:49, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- You can make the necessary edits on the page. I will forward you personal official websites as well. Please let's create this page together.

- The "we" in "
We did not pay
" gives me the impression that you are at least in contact with the subject, so even if you haven't been paid to edit the article, I suggest you follow the steps here to disclose your conflict of interest, which is appreciated and will prevent you from getting blocked for spamming. Also a quick thing, do you know how this item about Yasin Hacıoğlu was created in May 2021 (a year ago)? And if you don't know, is it possible for you to ask to someone who might know? ~StyyxTalk? 13:02, 8 June 2022 (UTC)- We didn't pay, yes, when I said that, I didn't talk to anyone about money for this transaction. I don't have any benefits, it just bothers me that everything turns into money trading. Can't we be free? I don't have any information about May 1, 2021, what is it? Can you talk about? Dartmikes (talk) 13:04, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- I am happy that you guys didn't pay for anything. Wikipedia is a platform run by volunteers, and the vast majority of articles are created by people who haven't had contact with the subject they are creating. I've seen that exact r10.net link you've sent many times before. Occasionally, someone shows up in the Telegram group of the Turkish Wikipedia, telling that they paid thousands of Turkish liras to have an article created, only for it to be deleted a few hours later. Again, I'm very happy that you guys didn't fall for this scam.
- However, I do see a misunderstanding of Wikipedia judging from your above comments. You said that "
users who do it with money delete it directly because we do not pay
", this is false. As Merko said above, the subject of an article must meet the general notability guideline (shortened as GNG) to be included in Wikipedia. Administrators delete these articles because they don't meet the criteria, not because they haven't been paid to keep it. This also why I declined the draft. The whole scam by the people in r10.net is that they trick you into thinking that you must pay in order to have your article kept. - The item I'm talking about was created on 1 May 2021 by an user that is currently blocked on the Turkish Wikipedia for paid editing, so this user got paid to create articles, which are now deleted. Seeing that they created this item for Yasin Hacıoğlu made me think that they also got paid to create that. Could you please ask, Yasin Hacıoğlu himself or his PR manager or something, if anyone has information about it? ~StyyxTalk? 13:25, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

- Hi, any updates? ~StyyxTalk? 11:09, 15 June 2022 (UTC)
(edit conflict) OK, there are two things here. One is that some people make a living by writing Wikipedia pages (in English, Turkish, and many other languages) for money, and a large portion of those people are scammers (as Styyx explained above).
The other thing is whether you, Dartmikes, have a conflict of interest. Please answer those questions:
- Are you editing the page as part of your work duties?
- Do you have a connection with Yasin Hacıoğlu? (Family member, friend, colleague...)
If you answered "yes" to the first question, that means you qualify as a paid editor, even if you were not paid directly by Yasin Hacıoğlu to create that page. For instance, if your boss told you to do so, even if your monthly salary is not affected by whether or not you complete the page.
If you answered "yes" to the second question, you are not a paid editor, but you should still follow the advice for editors with a conflict of interest.
If you answered "no" to both questions, well, people are going to wonder how you decided to write about both Yasin Hacıoğlu, a mining businessman, and Murat Arık, a photographer, both living persons with seemingly nothing in common. Maybe you just happen to follow them both independently on LinkedIn or something. Or maybe you are part of a writing-for-Wikipedia company, and you lied. It does not really matter if you do good edits, but your edits so far are promotional in nature, which does not align with Wikipedia’s purpose.
