Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Paul Matte, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Swordtail (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Your draft article, User:Dan Koehl/sandbox

[edit]

Hello Dan Koehl. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "sandbox".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the db-afc or db-g13 code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: , paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save page", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 19:30, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Folkung family tree

[edit]

Hi, on your WP:WikiProject Norse history and culture#Family tree for the article Folkung I fixed your use of <ref> markup which caused footnote "^1" to display at the bottom of page. I hope you don't mind I did this.

I have dabbled myself with the family tree markup, and have inserted one for example into Thorfinn Karlsefni.
I think you could have just WP:BOLD edited and added your family tree into the Folkung article, except you did not complete translating everything into English.
I took a few minutes to make a list of the English you probably needed correcting below. I don't have command of Swedish, so some might be wrong guesses.
A completed copy of the fully englished version of your stemma is saved in my sandbox, if you would like to copy and paste. Cheers.--Kiyoweap (talk) 16:19, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Folke »grossus»→Folke the Fat
Erik den helige→Erik Jedvardsson the Saint
i Estland→ in Estonia
1247 e. 1248→or
1200 i Norge→ in Norway
g.m. → m. (3 times)
d. 1248 och bror:→ d. 1248 and brother:
d efter → d. after (there are other places where period in d. is missing)
möjlig dotter till→possibly daughter of
Karlsdotter till Johan →is this supposed to be "Karl's daughter. Johan's sister"?

Additional remarks:

 • I myself use ill2 when redlinks have articles in native lannguage. Thus Magnus Broka→Magnus Broka→Magnus Broka [sv]
 • Both "Filip" and "Philip" are used, but should these be standardized?
 • Is "Filip Birgersson" different from "Filip jarl" of the box above him?

--Kiyoweap (talk) 16:19, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Kiyoweap, thank you for your feedback reg the family tree Ihave been working on, I value a lot that someone took time to evaluate the work. I will, within shortly try to complete the work, and submit it to the article. Dan Koehl (talk) 23:12, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

[edit]

Hi Dan Koehl. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

 • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
 • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
 • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
 • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
 • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Beeblebrox (talk) 08:24, 22 November 2014 (UTC) Beeblebrox (talk) 08:24, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have unreviewed a page you curated

[edit]

Hi, I'm Swpb. I wanted to let you know that I saw the page you reviewed, මූලික ගොඩනැගිලි තාක්ෂණය-1 කොටස, and have un-reviewed it again. If you have any questions, please ask them on my talk page. Thank you. Swpbtalk 13:08, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Do you speak Sinhala (if that is indeed the language here)? I suspect not, because the speedy deletion tags you applied to the article were not even consistent with each other. The article is clearly not "very short", and if it lacks context to identify the subject, how can you assert that the subject is a non-notable person, animal, organization, web content, or event? As you may have noticed, there is not a speedy deletion tag for "written in a language I don't read". That's because this is not an acceptable speedy deletion criterion. Please familiarize yourself with the speedy deletion criteria and use the tags appropriately. Swpbtalk 13:15, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @Swpb:, I speak very few words Singhalese, but unless there is a, for me unknown, valid reason to put an article in Singhalese on the english Wikipedia, this article doesnt belong on the english wikipedia, it should be placed on the https://si.wikipedia.org. I marked the page very short, and without content, becasue the only content in english, is the mispelled civil technolgy (its called technology), thats all. Dan Koehl (talk) 13:54, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You need to understand that your action was inappropriate and against community consensus. It is well established that, although articles should be in English, the fact that an article is in another language is never, by itself, a valid criterion for deletion, and certainly not speedy deletion. New editors who are not aware of the English language requirement may contribute worthwhile content in their native languages, and it is our responsibility to determine whether that content is worthwhile. Don't rely on a typo to justify your error. Your action was completely wrong. Swpbtalk 15:06, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What does it mean? How can we determine whether that content is worthwhile content since we do not know the language? --AntonTalk 07:43, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you apply a speedy deletion tag, the burden of proof is on you to show that it's appropriate. That should be obvious. Swpbtalk 12:39, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. Dan Koehl (talk) 07:45, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well you'd still be wrong. And you're entitled to be wrong. But you're not entitled to break the rules. Your argument is not with me, it's with the consensus of the community, as the admin decline should make painfully obvious. Are you seriously celebrating the fact that someone else made the same error you did? Did you seriously just summon me to come back here and tell you all this again? You were and are wrong; just take the ego hit and move on with your life. Swpbtalk 12:39, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Swpb, according to Criteria for speedy deletion; Pages consisting entirely of incoherent text or gibberish with no meaningful content or history. This excludes poor writing, partisan screeds, obscene remarks, implausible theories, vandalism and hoaxes, fictional material, coherent non-English material, and poorly translated material. This excludes the sandbox and pages in the user namespace. In short, if you can understand it, G1 does not apply.

You have so far not provided any links to your claim, that articles only and entirely written in Singhalese should be submitted on wiki.riteme.site. If you think that I made a mistake, it would make sense to back it up with substancial links, rather than just saying that I am breaking rules. Dan Koehl (talk) 13:14, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Are you fuzzy on what the word "excludes" means? Because you just very neatly proved yourself wrong. The text you just pasted says precisely that the deletion criterion does not apply to coherent non-English material. Are we done now? Swpbtalk 13:18, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Please see WP:NOTCSD #16 for what to do with non-English pages. De728631 (talk) 17:43, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Otidiformes edit

[edit]

Hello, thank you for welcoming me! I am not an expert but I like to keep up with news concerning tetrapod phylogeny. There is an inconsistency with the bustard article and the ones for bird and gruiformes. In the bird article it separates bustards from gruiformes and in the gruiformes article it lists bustards as doubtful gruiformes. In addition the French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch and Swedish wikipedia articles have otidiformes as its own order. There was also a study done by over 200 researchers, that was released this week which lists otidiformes as its own order as can be seen in figure 1 of the following link http://www.sciencemag.org/content/346/6215/1320.fullCite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page). Owlphant (talk) 09:06, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that reference, interesting. But do I understand you right, gruiformes article lists bustards as doubtful gruiformes and that you are refering to a research article, which suggests that the family should change order. But in reality the change has not been officially executed by the taxonomists? Before we change order of the family, we must wait until theres an international consensus that support the research article? Or, is such a decision already taken? (You provided no source for that) I agree that the taxonomy of bustards is disussed, but I cant see that a valid change has been made by taxonomists, or did I miss anything in the article? Dan Koehl (talk) 09:35, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Bustards are treated as their own order by the International Ornithologists Union/Committee http://www.worldbirdnames.org/bow/bustards/Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).Owlphant (talk) 03:30, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A page you started (Otidiformes) has been reviewed!

[edit]

Thanks for creating Otidiformes, Dan Koehl!

Wikipedia editor Animalparty just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

I redirected the monotypic taxon to Bustard (i.e. Otididae) per WP:MONOTYPICFAUNA. I'm not sure Category:Otidiformes is much use either, as it would presumably only contain Category:Otididae (see WP:SMALLCAT) and create needless navigational steps. However I don't know how the Bird editors handle categories. Cheers!
