To be honest, I don't think I've ever heard of the series... Still, on the strength of the sources that you provided, I feel WP:GNG is met and I wouldn't expect notability challenges.

@TheGracefulSlick: Thanks for the kind words, I see the discussion is quite heated (not unexpected given the seriousness of the topic at hand). I check AfD from time to time, I'll give that delsort a try once I have some more free time. BTW I was thinking about making an example list article to better illustrate how useful this would be. (I probably should've done that before starting that discussion.) I suggest you consider presenting this draft for a merge proposal/RfC at the article's talk page; this draft accurately summarizes events in a much more encyclopedic style. I wouldn't be surprised if it is still opposed by the usuals but it establishes a precedent -- namely, this is how you write an article. And I think it would be a better option than me AfDing the article in a few months when RAPID no longer can be applied.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 06:11, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

Collaboration

Hi Daß Wölf, nice work bringing Species to GA. I am planning to pursue a featured article nomination and I would like to cordially invite you in a collaborative effort to bring it to the Featured Article quality. I have access to this movie's collector's edition Blu-ray as well as several academic sources, and I think we might do something about the article. But before we do so, it should be reviewed for A-Class, which is one step closer to being a FA; it is less stringent than reviewing it as FA. So what do you say, interested? I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Aw, this really sucks, 26 at once, it is going to be impossible to argue them all... Granted, some of them may be borderline notable. (The threshold for films is fairly high.) Hedvig Hricak

I saw that you were a contributor to the article on Hedvig Hricak, and I was hoping you could help me with some revisions. I do have a COI, which I've declared on the talk page and my userpage. I've been working on improving the current version of the article to something a little more robust. I have a draft here, with some of Hricak's personal information removed (as it had been previously suppressed for privacy reasons), and some information on her research included in a separate section. There's no need for the redirect Free Republic of Verdis to be deleted and just so you know, Buzzara RTL is a reliable source. It's approved for Google Inclusion and is part of the RTL Group which is a major news organization in Europe. It is a reliable source, therefore things shouldn't be reverted on the dispute page.

Re: Ideas for a hook

I find multiple DYKs cool, but this particular hook is a bit hard to pull off. One might simplify "former international airport of Zagreb, Croatia" to just "Lučko Airport near Zagreb, Croatia", and I'd even drop the "MMA multiple world champion" description - he is quite popular and many people know about him, and while those who don't might be left guessing, that's also fair game for DYK (even if, in this particular case, Cro Cop is not the DYK target, but an ancillary link). The Signpost

A very insightful comment.[1] It is probably difficult for many people who edit large wikis only to quite grasp how different small wiki communities are. It indeed is the small-group mentality, but unfortunately that's not all. To use an analogy of sorts: just like Molise Croatian, being isolated from the development of the main body of Croatian language, appears almost frozen in the Middle Ages, the modern-day environment of many small wikis seems to resemble the earliest days of English Wikipedia - and not in a good way.

I've noticed that hr wiki editors have a hard time understanding the basic stuff: WP:V, WP:RS, WP:COI, WP:BLP, WP:GNG. It all seems awfully foreign to them. WP:GNG, for example, is, formally speaking, foreign to hr wiki, because there is no such guideline, but even the very concept ("hey, you've got to have at least some substantial non-primary sources") is incomprehensible to many. And it's not just delinquency to blame. I'm afraid it's going to be eternal Middle Ages for some wikis, and it won't be conducive to building an encyclopedia, at least not in the way we'd expect. AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Meta RfC

A propos some of your comments in the Meta RfC: I've always thought warning and even blocking people for "saving too often" (because ostensibly it's extra load on the patrollers) is super obtuse. What's worse, if I were a patroller, I'd be loathe to see a huge edit where all sorts of things were changed, inserted and deleted - these can be more difficult to patrol than a series of smaller edits. (Usually not being able to write a coherent edit summary is a sign too much is being done in a single edit.) This sort of gung-ho mentality about patrolling and the idea that it's somehow more important than editing will be difficult to change, but that's something I'd like to address one day. A good point. What's worse, it seems that "interaction with newcomers" (i.e. going to their talk pages and admonishing them for all sorts of minor beginner errors and omissions) is a requirement for patrollers. Worst of all: it's an unofficial requirement, since AFAIK there is no page that explains what patrolling is and how it is supposed to be done. It's a mess on many levels. Re: Quick question

Hi!

Let me say a very nice job on the flood article!

On the WP:BLP issue, in this particular case two questions must be asked about the name-mentioning:

1. Is there a potential for causing undue embarrassment or harm, and
2. Is there a encyclopedic justification for it

The questions are made trickier by the fact that the cause for the arrest appears to be incidentally linked to the dam affair. (So the details of the arrest itself may or may not be partially off-topic.)

W.r.t. #1 I'd say the answer is "no", because the person in question openly talked about it in the media and saw no wrongdoing on their part (although in the arrest incident, some circumstances seem to be under dispute). (The fact his name is routinely mentioned by the sources is actually not too relevant: if the sources victimize the person, consensus is Wikipedia shouldn't jump on the bandwagon.)

W.r.t. #2 I'd however also say "no". The value of the information is marginal. I'd use it to refer to the subject, if the sentences are less awkward or clearer to the reader that way. At any rate, I don't see a WP:BLP issue, so I suppose either way is OK. GregorB (talk) 20:32, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
