Could you help?
[edit]I am currently writing an article on Ward leonard control, which is a type of DC motor speed control system. I noticed that you contributed on Brushed DC Electric Motor. Since I am new to wiki,it would be great if you can take a look at mine and give me some feedback or improve the acticle.Spaceel 15:26, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Dioxin in incineration article
[edit]Hi DMahalko, Thank you for your knowledgable contribution on dioxin to the incineration article. I have edited your contribution somewhat to integrate it better with the existing text. I also changed the info on auxiliary heatersburners, as they actually only work as backups in modern plants, not as general temperature aid. I hope you agree with these edits.
Sincerely, Claus Hindsgaul

[edit]That is a spectacular find. Good work, man. I've commented out some of the more personal notes, though - such Mahalko-focused details are really only relevant in userspace. DS (talk) 14:28, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Hawkins Guide redraws
[edit]If you are not happy with any of the redraws, ie. if I've made something unclear or done it wrong, then please tell me and revert it back to the original etc. I don't really have any idea what I'm drawing, well I know enough to know that the direction of a coil is important etc., but not the specifics... so it's possible I have omitted something important or made something unclear... So just let me know :) Thanks -- Borb (talk) 14:55, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Enhanced Random Articles
[edit]In response to Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)/Archive_76#Somewhat_less_than_random_articles.3F, I have created the following script that you can use, called Enhanced Random Articles, which skips disambiguation and stub pages: User:Gary King/enhanced random article.js. Gary King (talk) 23:04, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks! I don't have much experience with Javascript, so how are exclusions specified? Are they inserted directly into the code, by replacing where you have "undefined" in there?
- Also, is there a way for me to give the script a list of article title keywords to exclude?
- Is this inserted into the monobook.js, or whatever it is? DMahalko (talk) 07:26, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
- Edit Special:MyPage/skin.js. Insert the following code:
importScript('User:Gary King/enhanced random article.js');
enhancedRandomArticle = {};
enhancedRandomArticle.showDisambiguationPages = false;
enhancedRandomArticle.showStubs = false;
enhancedRandomArticle.patterns = [];
The .showDisambiguationPages is set to false, meaning not to show disambiguation pages (change to true to show them). Same with .showStubs; false means not to show stubs, true means to show them. The .patterns line is to exclude certain keywords from article titles. This is done like so:
.patterns = ['(album)', '(singer)', '(song)']
Which would exclude article titles with those keywords, so The Beatles (album), Pink (singer), and White Christmas (song) are excluded. Gary King (talk) 19:09, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Dioxins
[edit]Hi, I noticed your recent edit of the dioxin disambiguation stub to move all information relating to dioxin toxicity and contamination incidents to the article polychlorinated dibenzodioxins. I have to say I do not agree with this decision as many incidents mentioned, such as the Irish Pork Crisis, or the Belgian incident are in fact incidents of PCB contamination, with PCDDs forming on a very minor part of the overall "dioxin like toxin" load. I think the way things are arranged currently is counterintuitive and in some ways in accurate. A discussion is ongoing http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Medicine/Toxicology_task_force#Dioxin as to the best way to re-organise the topic in a more coherent and accurate way.Arthurbagwaste (talk) 08:37, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Your addition to disk formatting
[edit]I reverted your addition to disk formatting because it is inaccurate when you consider all disk drive history - most media had to be formatted to be accessed by the system and it had nothing to do with the somewhat unreliable mechanisms of some disk drives. BTW you could not tilt the earliest disk drives. In essence your addition was a non-sequitor. Some disk drives had unreliable mechanisms but most did not. Your conclusion that "The initial purpose of disk formatting was therefore to compensate for these mechanism misalignments and drifting" is simply not true. [edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add or change content, as you did to the article Uninterruptible power supply, please cite a reliable source for your addition. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for how to cite sources, and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Current consensus both here and on the article's Talk page is that you need to provide sourcing, Please do so or discuss the matter further rather than simply re-adding the material without references. Thank you. Doniago (talk) 21:19, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Giganews top 30
[edit]Hi, I was looking at the top 30 newsgroups in the article Usenet.[1]. Since this comes from early 2008, it might be helpful to update it. I would wager that alt.binaries.boneless is still at number one, but could not find an updated chart despite searching on Google. Could you help here? Thanks.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 22:45, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
- If you are a Giganews subscriber, the current list can most likely be derived from your newsreader's list of newsgroups, such as NewsBin. I currently do not have a UseNet subscription. DMahalko (talk) 01:16, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
- After some searching, here is a current list from Easynews. As predicted, alt.binaries.boneless is still out in front in the #1 position, but the other places have changed since 2008.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 20:06, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

- I second this note of thanks. A video like Commons:File:Forage harvester - forage wagon 320x240.ogv is an excellent contribution to making Wikipedia's coverage of economically important topics what it should be. Everyone relies on agriculture and industry for their material existence, but many people do not work in those areas and are not raised by parents who do, so if we expect people to be informed/educated about these major aspects of the world, we need good Wikipedia content to help inform them. - 1. I have migrated all images over from the Commons to Wikia, citing the Commons page for each one, for source/attribution.
- 2. Added References/Reflist to bottom. Where'd it go from the original?
- 3. Converted article wikilinks so that they still point back to Wikipedia-en. Underscores are needed in place of spaces for the cross-wiki link to work:
- [[Wikipedia:Daytime_running_lamp|Daytime running lamp]]
- (Oh wait, maybe not. A lack of underscores is not breaking cross-wiki links for article: http://catalog.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_7400_series_integrated_circuits
- [[Wikipedia:Daytime_running_lamp|Daytime running lamp]]
- The Wikia easy-editing GUI does not handle the display of reference tags properly, but it all works normally as on Wikipedia after clicking Publish. To edit references, and links back to Wikipedia, use the "edit as Source" tab at the top.
- Also I see on some occasions, wikipedia Templates will need to be copied over to Wikia but it's a one-time issue, and they appear to work properly over there.

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. -- Mesconsing (talk) 23:51, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Undid your edit to Wikipedia:Spam
[edit]I undid your edit to Wikipedia:Spam. While what you say is true, that page is about other types of spam.
I don't know the best place to put such information, this isn't it. Perhaps you could write a user essay about the topic. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 00:11, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- It is on topic and relevant to the article. That article is about all types of spam, as it is simply titled "Spam". The article is not titled "Wikipedia:Article Spam".
- If I were to follow your logic then the most appropriate action is to turn the article into a disambiguation page, and create two new sub-articles, titled "Article Spam" and "Editor Spam".
- I think the confusion is that the page is NOT an article, it is a "project page," that is, a page about or for the benefit of the administration of the English Wikipedia or the community of Wikipedia editors. Despite the title, is not meant to be a compendium of all possible ways spam interacts with Wikipedia. It doesn't deal with IRC-spam on Wikipedia IRC channels, for example. If you really want to get it added to that page, you might try opening a discussion on Wikipedia talk:Spam and see what the community consensus is. The article is Spam, which is about spam in general. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 16:55, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

I would suggest getting someone like the Internet Archive to scan them, then the scans can be ranscribed on Wikisource possibly. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 08:53, 30 July 2016 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:IE7 Errors caused by 10000 GDI Objects 1.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:IE7 Errors caused by 10000 GDI Objects 1.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Speedy deletion nomination of MacMall
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on MacMall, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 05:46, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
