You are pretty much assuring that the article will not be accepted into main space. Drmies (talk) 13:25, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Draft:Bayard H. Brattstrom, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Please do NOT restore unverified information about living people, as you did with the name of Brattstrom's children. They are NOT the subject of this article and shouldn't even be named, especially not without any kind of reliable secondary sourcing. Drmies (talk) 13:28, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

First, I apologize for any offense I may have inadvertently caused.
My intent was to write as complete and accurate a portrait of Dr. Brattstrom as possible. This is why I reinserted the names of his sons, which I saw you removed again. However, your explanation as to why their names were removed is now acceptable to me. Concerning reliable sources, I used peer reviewed, recognized scientific journals, none of which may be described as "predatory", to refer readers to my sources of each statement. This is why I reinserted those, so as to avoid making unsupported statements. Finally, Dr. Brattstrom provided me with his curriculum vitae, and lists of publications, grants, awards, all of which I have cross-checked for their validity. These I cited using the term (pers. com.) for personal communication.
Again, this is all new to me. I am used to technical scientific writing which differs a good deal from Wikipedia standards. Please know that I am open to any suggestions you may have that will bring this article to Wikipedia standards and eventual publication. Thank you for your time and expertise. Hi. No apology necessary. Here's the thing: what you added are citations to the subject's articles. But those claims are claims about someone's work, and cannot be verified by references from that person's work. "Person X wrote an article about Uzbek cuisine" should not be referenced by X's article about Uzbek cuisine: it needs to be referenced by a secondary source, independent of the subject, if only because a secondary source can establish that it's worth writing. But the other big problem is simply the complete lack of secondary sourcing about your subject and his work. That's what you need to write this up. And since this is an encyclopedia, you need to refrain from statements like "His field trips were exhaustive and enlightening, revealing to his students the natural world and how to study and enjoy it". Good luck. Drmies (talk) 22:34, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you again for your expert advice. I intend to go through the literature in search of secondary sources, now that I understand the concept and reasons for its application. I will delete any unsupported statements. Should I leave the draft as posted until I have gathered a sufficient number of secondary sources, or edit them in as I go.
