Sipowiczed

FYI, I chose "tuner" for lack of a better word coming to mind. Cosworth started with Ford blocks, so they owe the same relationship Repco does to Buick. If you've a better word? TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 00:54, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

I won't howl over it being changed. And if you heard anybody use Sipowicz as a verb, I'd be very surprised; I only started doing it myself yesterday. ;p TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura

Re:Constructor Formula One drivers

I think you are correct that having categories of this type on AGS and ATS but not BRM and Benetton is ridiculous, but I think that Andrea de Cesaris being a member of eight such categories would not be undesirable. Consider other sportspeople - Nicolas Anelka is a member of eight categories for football players of various clubs (PSG, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Man City, Fenerbahce, Bolton and Chelsea). If a driver such as de Cesaris is required to be in all those categories, that should be acceptable. WilliamF1two (talk) 17:12, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

Driver renames

The way I see it now, does it really matter that the links aren't the same as the page name? Surely the links will just redirect so it is only a minor problem and if I'm honest, not really worth my while to correct for the sake of asthetic perfection over functional use. There is no point in reverting it because it is better that all pages are named Driver (racing driver) for people searching the name in the search box. Without seeming uselessly lazy, I say just leave it as it is unless a simple way to amend the situation can be found. Officially Mr X (talk) 12:15, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Replacement of Motorsport season templates

It is just there is a fundamental problem with the sort of table previously in place. That is, for an inaugural season or if a series becomes defunct, the tables no longer work successfully. The same if a series changes its name (e.g. Euro Formula 3000/Euroseries 3000/Auto GP): it will only work if the season is a name which links to a page name. Here are some examples where the templates are inadequate, using the World Touring Car Championship as an example:

Anyway, the point is that the other version is far more effective and has none of the drawbacks of this version of the template. Either improve this template somehow or use the original template which is far more maliable:

1987 World Touring Car Championship season
Previous: none Next: 2005

Hi DH85868993, hope you are doing well. I would like to know where do I can find some information on V8 Supercars driver David Clark, as I have failed on finding a biography about him. Maybe you can help me with that. Thanks in advance, Mxcatania (talk) 15:42, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Lap leaders

Hi, I've noticed you've added the lap leaders field in the live infobox. What do you think of my idea of having it as a collapsible field (see right)? Otherwise, I feel that in either text or graphical form, it's going to make the infobox very lengthy. Speaking of the graphical form, what did you think of my revised version? Do you think it's got any potential? AlexJ (talk) 12:03, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Good spot! Should be fixed now. AlexJ (talk) 23:16, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Bonnier

Haha!! I spotted that too, and I'm sorting it out at the moment - nearly finished in fact. It was a bit of a basket-case, sadly. That IP has done a few non-champ tables and some are a bit of a mess. They're actually quite hard sometimes which is why I'm slacking badly on them myself. Drivers switched cars and teams with amazing frequency at times in those days!! I should be updating Bonnier's table in the next few minutes :) Bretonbanquet (talk) 01:44, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

It's done - it's pretty large now, hopefully that doesn't matter too much. Most drivers will have slightly more compact tables than Bonnier, bless him. Bretonbanquet (talk) 02:10, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

BT49

Hi. Have we explicitly decided that even events not contested by the entity in question (be it car, team or driver) should be linked in the table? Seems a bit counterintuitive, and eats up a fair of memory in those (probably rare) cases like the BT49 where we've got most of two seasons listed but not contested. Why would anyone click on the other races? Worth a discussion at WP:F1? 4u1e (talk) 05:50, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

I think it's probably slightly more logical not to link them - but you're right that it could be a bit daunting to change all the other tables, and it's not a task that would be easily automated. I'll not bother starting a discussion. Cheers. 4u1e (talk) 08:41, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

My Edits

I did stop making those edits so if you found some they should be left over from before. Also, I only make these types of edits on articles were I have made other changes. If I am still doing this please give me an example so I can figure out why its still occurring. --Kumioko (talk) 03:49, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know about the changes with breaks. I was aware of the space but to be honest the break will work a dozen different ways. I am just trying to standardize them somewhat as a minor edit as I do other things. I personally don't like putting in the spaces for 2 reasons; it adds extra bytes to the article and it looks messy in edit mode. Since the change is just cosmetic and a matter of standardization can we compromise on this one? Thanks for letting me know though. --Kumioko (talk) 02:04, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

Grand/grands prix

Hi

I took advice from: Babelfish says prize and prizes both= prix, Merriam-Webster but they just say that both can be used "Inflected Form(s): plural grand prix also grands prix" and Collins says the plural of prix is prix - Confused ? I will be lol

So I took it that the plural would be prix but found this [1]

As I understood it the French usage would be the prix which is already plural - I take it this was a subject of previous discussions ?

Grands Prix just sounded wrong - it would be translated as "Bigs prize" - so you can see my lack of understanding here

thanks Chaosdruid (talk) 11:58, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Lol - thats probably why I failed French "O" level ! I did pass the spoken but as they sound the same when you say it thats probably how I got away with it :¬)
Thanks for the reply and explanation

Linking to system of points

Thanks for noticing. I have already (sort of) said I thought this should be done, at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Formula One#Drivers' Points but maybe it could be a good idea to be more clear about it so an obvious consensus can be reached. I think it would be good to have this link in all tables of the kind and I also realize it would take time for one person to do it all manually, so help could be needed. End of season constructors table

Hi, I've noticed while doing the championship standings for each race that from 1960 onwards until some time in the 90s there's no detailed contructors standings table, which was very handy to use as reference while doing the tables in each race, especially if drivers change teams mid-season. Also, the two that do exist in the 50s (58 and 59) are completely different to each other - one lists positions, the other points scored. In order to keep to the same format as the driver's standings, I'd suggest using the one showing results. In fact, the table in the 1958 season page is pretty much perfect, the bold to indicate which scores counted is particularly useful. So I'm gonna go ahead and make these standard in each year. Shouldn't be too difficult hopefully. RE your earlier message, thanks for that, I've looked back and they're correct now so I assume you corrected them? Thanks for that :) Allypap81 (talk) 16:52, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Re: Thanks / Indy boxes

No problem; that's the sort of mistakes I usually make when it's 5am and I've ended up on here somehow! Cs-wolves(talk) 10:47, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

The World Championship summaries are redundant now in my opinion, and as you say, it is a duplicate of the infobox. Me and Bretonbanquet had a discussion about a possible improvement of all the F1 articles, but I imagine that it wouldn't get anywhere far quickly without a fair number of being involved. this website; perhaps now a great source, but I couldn't find a better one that is up-to-date, without a subscription unlike Forix. I included some of the DNQs from the Indy 500s that counted, as they have still entered the event. Say, like Gabriele Tarquini, he has 78 races in the box, but 38 starts in brackets due to the DNQs and DNPQs. Feel free to change them, as I imagine you'd get the job done quicker than what I would! I don't know whether it affects everybody or if it's just me, but Template:Scuderia Ferrari is not wrapping properly and everything is disappearing right of screen. When I look at previous revisions, it is fine up to here, but on all revisions since you made this edit it does not work correctly. Could you solve this? Thanks - mspete93 11:34, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Sorry for the lateness of my reply too, I've been away. I'm using IE8 and Vista. I've just discovered that running Wikipedia in 'Compatibility View' solves the problem.
