Towns in Armenia

[edit]

Hi thanks for adding those articles. I wish there were more editors adding towns like this like myself. You do realise that there is a pin map for Armenia so the maps can be added. You just have to enter the correct coortinates. See Achadzhur etc ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:01, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

pLease see my change to Urtsadzor. You weren't entering the correct coordinates. It shouldn't be 22.82 etc but 22 || 82 etc ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:02, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Look will you please respond?? You are making errors. See Zovuni. There is a map and the correct coordinates. You were using decimal numbers which don't work for the map ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:10, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Me whos making errors? the world gazeteer coordinates are wrong anyway Akhuryan was wrong - the correct coordinates are see 40° 46' 53N Long (DMS) 43° 53' 47 -I had to correct it . Satellite websites such as maplandia, google confirm this ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:27, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've had to correct it. I now have over 50 of your stubs to correct ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:29, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Let me explain the coordinates in the infobox.

It should be like this with the minutes and seconds:

|latd=40 |latm=46 |lats=53 |latNS=N
|longd=43|longm=53 |longs=47 |longEW=E

Your method of :

|latd=40.46 |latm= |lats=|latNS=N
|longd=43.53|longm= |longs=|longEW=E

etc was wrong

♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:32, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I must urge you not to make edits like this one [1]. 45.50° does not equal 45°50'. Cxz111 (talk) 12:35, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the evidence of your errors ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:35, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Aghavnatun had the wrong coordinates anyway _I've recorrected it ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:37, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The difference between your co-ordinates and mine where minimal. Cxz111 (talk) 12:49, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yep. Your're doing well, but please remember wikipedia uses DMS coordinates in general not decimal. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:50, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

May I recommend adapting your map to accept decimal co-ordinates. Cxz111 (talk) 12:56, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nope unfortunately . All wikipedia pin maps for every country in the world use DMS coordinates in the infoboxes. I don't see why you think it is important to use decimal -it still works this way and then we have some nice locator maps for each of your new articles. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 13:02, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don;t want you to get the wrong impression on this. Those articles you added are very important, and it is also very important that these kind of places are filled in for each country and its great you;ve created so many so quickly. All I ask is that you work with me in a friendly way to they can be done with the map for each one. Cheers ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 13:09, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for correcting. I had got over half way. Keep up the good work! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:01, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Excllent! I'll try to find a nicer map of Paraguay though its a bit dull isn't it ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:24, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:36, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your;re doing very well but nothing to do with you the Paraguay map is slightly off line. I;ve asked the map expert to look into it. It just needs tweaking. Your coordinates look perfect now . Just caryy on and it'll get fixed ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:06, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please correct it and add {{WikiProject Caribbean|class=stub|importance=|Dominican Republic=yes }}

Also please correct and add {{WikiProject Central America|class=stub|importance=|Panama=yes }}

Keep up the good work! 16:13, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for doing that I'm impressed by your work. Its also much needed that you link to the page on world gazetteer rather than just a blank source as people may want to check it -I've noticed you're correcting this now. Some of the countries such as Uzbekistan, Kyrgzstan, Turkmenistan aren't exactly brimming with articles either ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 00:20, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Global gazetteer

[edit]

You may find this useful - The best thing I have found to date is Global gazetteer. It lists places A-Z through an A-Z of all countries in the world. The information on population should be ignored though as it is an estimate but actual location, and elevation is reliable as it is based on satellite data. There is an entire directory of towns and villages ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:33, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I meant to use that as a list of settlements rather than a source but its OK. See Bel'uryuk. Could you please provide the direct link to the exact page rather than the directory on every article and copy and paste the nearby settlements. This way it connects the articles together geographically. Thanks ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 22:57, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was creating them like Abdykalyk with the satellite map links also ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 22:59, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Aslo note the time zones can be added. In this case UTC +5 ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 23:06, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Have you seen Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bura-Chaty? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:39, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Before you go any further I am changing the category naming to Category:Cities, towns and villages in Kyrgyzstan. I will be doing the same to many other countries so keep this in mind. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 22:00, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

new articles on places in Panama

[edit]

Hi Cxz111 - good to see a few new short articles on places in Panama, but could I ask you, if you make any more, to add {{Panama-geo-stub}} to the bottom? That will loet editors know that it's a short article on a place in Panama, so that anyone else working on Panamanian articles will be able to find it easily. Cheers, and keep up the good work! Grutness...wha? 00:29, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kyrgyzstan villages

[edit]

Hi there! Your apparent effort to create a page for every town and village in Kyrgyzstan is laudable; but I would suggest that, while going after quantity, you don't overlook quality. It seems that you rely on a database at fallingrain.com as your main source - and that site, while well-intentional, is obviously far from infallible. For example, you list Shor-Tyube as being in Kyrgyzstan, while in reality it is on the north side of the Chuy River, and thus in fact in Zhambyl Province of the neighboring Kazakhstan. Similarly, it is strange to create an article on Chuy, Kyrgyzstan without mentioning that it is pretty much a part of the neighboring Tokmak. And calling many of those places "towns" and "city", as fallingrain.com does, is rather extravagant, as they are locally known as villages (Russian 'selo', or Kyrgyz: Aiyly). I would strongly suggest that before you create an article about a place, you cross check its existence and location against a printed map or Google Maps (wikimapia.org is a good interface for that, with a bulk of locally-added information), and, if possible, against at least one other credible site - such as a local provincial administration site, which often (e.g., for each of the 8 districts of Chuy Province - such as the Chuy District http://chuy.in.kg/html/rus/chuy.htm ) have rather detailed about the administrative division of the province in question. Best wishes, and good luck with your contributions. Vmenkov (talk) 00:59, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds good but keep up the good work anyway! I have suggested maplandia.com ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 13:05, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am now cross checking the existence and location of each village with MSN Encarta. It will take too long to add multiple external links to each article, so I think we should just concentrate on creating the articles first, then add details later. Cxz111 (talk) 13:12, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for deciding to pay attention to maps! I am not on wikipedia - or online - much these days, but here are my two cents. "Concentrating on creating the articles first" means creating a lot of stubs with very minimal information ("X is a town in the Y province of country Z; coordinates = ..."). While even a small stubs generally does have positive values, those of them that contain incorrect info probably are of negative value, so in my view it's quite desirable to avoid creating the latter, even if we have fewer of the former. I would also feel that even with correct data, these stubs will be a lot more useful (and visible - thus inviting more contribution from those users who are willing to "add details") if they are created not as orphans, but are linked from some kind of "list of towns and villages" that you can add into the article for the provinces these towns are are in. For an example of a structured and well-documented page that provides links for small places in a given jurisdiction, along with useful context, see e.g. Administrative and municipal divisions of Adygea or Administrative divisions of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. AfD nomination of Yangi-Dzhol

[edit]

An editor has nominated Yangi-Dzhol, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yangi-Dzhol and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 22:08, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sudan

[edit]

HI I don't know if you are getting into the anti vandalismm thing but given your much apprecated work on the cities in Armenia, paraguay and kyrgyzstan I thought you may want to note the serious issue that is Category:Cities, towns and villages in Sudan. Most of the articles ar ein a terrible state, vast majority without an infbox and locator or any info at all. It really is a desperate condition on some of them. Would you be so kind as to find the world gazetteer page on sudan and sort out the main cities and try to add an infobox/locator to some of the others, Thanks ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:09, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delay but just want to drop a quick note saying thank you for participating in my RfA which closed and passed earlier this week. I'm keeping the points you and others have raised about project space participation in mind going forward. If you have any comments I'm always open to the counsel of others. New policy proposal that may be of interest

[edit]

I'm tapping this message out to you because you were involved at the AfDs of Eve Carson or Lauren Burk. Following both of these heated debates, a new proposal has been made for a guideline to aid these contentious debates, which can be found at WP:N/CA. There is a page for comments at Wikipedia talk:Notability (criminal acts)/Opinions should you wish to make a comment. Thanks for your time, and apologies if this was not of interest! Fritzpoll (talk) 16:02, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just came across Vanashen via random page, and found two more sources to add to it. I'd be honored if you wish to look it over, and maybe use the sources on other Armenian pages. Enjoy! 75.214.129.197 (talk) (really, User:JesseW/not logged in) 19:14, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New Project

[edit]

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 17:16, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Boca de Yuma

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Boca de Yuma, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hi there

[edit]

Hi there Cxz111, I keep bumping into you on NPP. Keep up your good work :). Just something I thought I'd say: when tagging a page for deletion (esp. under A7), it's sometimes appropriate and a good idea to use {{uw-autobio}} rather then the standard {{nn-warn}}, this is less BITEy. Just a suggestion, cheers - Kingpin13 (talk) 20:05, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your request for rollback

[edit]

After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback can be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback may be removed at any time.

If you no longer want rollback, then contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some information on how to use rollback, you can view this page. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, just leave me a message if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Happy editing!
