Welcome!
[edit]Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! Seems like you're struggling a bit. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, please check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! -- Rick Block (talk) 00:55, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks Rick!
- I really appreciate your help, especially the very good five pillars article which I had not come across yet -- I've added it to the Wikipedia Tutorial.
- As I've watched others in their edits, I've realized that I was being too cautious in trying to follow all/most of the policies/guidelines/etc. :-(

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Five Point Peace Plan, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.tibet.com/Proposal/5point.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 18:23, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
The article Five Point Peace Plan has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Lack of notability, verifiability
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Splittist (talk) 16:43, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Explanation(s) of [some of] my [recent] edits, in case I've offended/etc. people...
[edit]2014-02-22:
- While watching UFC 170, Joe Rogan's comment that Ronda Rousey is [currently] most the famous MMA fighter inspired me to check via Google to see/compare # of hits (kinda like Googlefight).
- Surprised to see that Georges St-Pierre had >10x the # of Google hits of RR (and, of even Chuck_Liddell#Dancing_with_the_Stars!), I wondered whether #GoogleHits == fame.
2014-02-25:
- Eventually, some faint Wikipedia memories triggered "Notability", which I was surprised that famous/fame & Celebrity did NOT hyperlink to! (so, I added...)
- Since I find Wikipedia via Google easier than thinking, I went reading (on Wikipedia) where the Notability#Wikipedia_content article mentioned "Wikipedia does not recommend the use of Google's results."
- Interesting Circular reference where external journal article http://iczn.org/sites/iczn.org/files/BZN 67(3) Comment on Case 3463.pdf referenced [back to] Google tests !! (Since WP article/redirect was deleted in 2010, I restored it+others to Wikipedia:Search engine test. Unsure how to handle prior "Deletion discussions" stuff w/o getting further bogged down with rules/etc....so I tried to be BOLD!)
- Also, since Wikipedia:Notability had no (obvious) mention of WP:SET, I added it...
- MAYBE need to revise "Wikipedia does not recommend the use of Google's results." after I read WP:SET+etc. ??
- I think there's some advice/guidelines/rules/etc. about differentiating "meta"-Wikipedia from "main"-Wikipedia, but, WOW! Lots of rules!!
- I wonder [since I've yet to read it!] if maybe Wikipedia:Search engine test (i.e., Wikipedia community) might actually *BE* the "AUTHORITATIVE source" (for questions related to #GoogleHits as a measure of fame) ?? [...but Circular...?]
- Interesting how my MINOR wondering+edits turned into so MUCH more!
- ALMOST done...I still need to READ to answer/understand my original Q: Fame measured via # of Google hits?
- Suggestions/advice welcome...

The article Paige VanZant has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of TechnoCalyps, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://gramercyimages.com/blog2/2010/12/20/preparing-for-the-singularity/.
It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.
If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) Speedy deletion nomination of TechnoCalyps
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on TechnoCalyps requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://gramercyimages.com/blog2/2010/12/20/preparing-for-the-singularity/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Nomination of TechnoCalyps for deletion
[edit]A discussion is taking place as to whether the article TechnoCalyps is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/TechnoCalyps until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:21, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
Note: @Curious1i: You are welcome to speak up at the above linked discussion to offer your own viewpoints. And it was kind of fun for me to take what someone sent to deletion and bring it more into line with our MOS:FILM. Cheers. Schmidt, Michael Q. 10:40, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Curious1i, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 20:18, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
- Unfortunately that copyright-violating material had been in the article for years; but that does not make it any less a copyright violation. Since we're an all-volunteer operation here, such violations can go unspotted for years. When we catch them, we yank them. --Orange Mike | Talk 05:00, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
