Article of the month – Phoenix International Raceway - B-class article
Phoenix International Raceway, also known as PIR, is a one-mile, low-banked tri-oval race track located in Avondale, Arizona. The track opened in 1964 and currently hosts two NASCAR race weekends annually. PIR has also hosted the Indycar Series, CART, USAC and the Rolex Sports Car Series. The raceway is currently owned and operated by International Speedway Corporation. The raceway was originally constructed with a 2.5 miles (4.0 km) road course that ran both inside and outside of the main tri-oval. In 1991 the track was reconfigured with the current 1.51 miles (2.43 km) interior layout. PIR has an estimated grandstand seating capacity of around 67,000. Lights were installed around the track in 2004 following the addition of a second annual NASCAR race weekend. Phoenix International Raceway is home to two annual NASCAR race weekends, one of 13 facilities on the NASCAR schedule to host more than one race weekend a year. The track is both the first and last stop on the West Coast, as well as the second and second-to-last track on the schedule. Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. M D Potter. Any comments? 16:15, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
Please do not add or change content without verifying it by citing reliable sources, as you did to Jaime Alguersuari. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Please see WP:CHALLENGED. Epeefleche (talk) 20:53, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
UCI as source
If you use uci.ch as reference for a team roster, the team roster should include the riders listed on uci.ch. Example: On FDJ-BigMat you have added other confirmed riders, and the reader is led to believe that the source is UCI. Personally I would prefer the team website as reference, because most of the time this is more reliable than uci.ch. --Pirker (talk) 16:45, 27 January 2012 (UTC).
P:CE/S badly miss you...
Hi Craig
Since you no longer edit the portal regularly, it fell into disrepair, or more correctly, lack of mainteinance, which resulted in many results missing in the second half of January (now archived). Is there any chance that your "vacation" will end in the foreseeable future? I hope it's not because I called you by wrong names... (I have no idea where my mind was when I did that...)--Nitsansh (talk) 14:19, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
2012 WEC entry list
Is the list supposed to be ordered on team name in the end? I split the AF Corse and Larbre entries when updating the list after the ACO's document because I was trying to order the list based on car numbers. It's not our fault that AF Corse and Larbre decided to split their race number choices. :) Vikirad (talk) 17:31, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
Standing (Portal:Current events/Sports)
Hello Cs-wolves,
I am a little bit confused. In the last two years I have always added the standings to the equestrian results. In the last months I had not so much time for Portal:Current events/Sports.
Today you revert my edit (rv: end of the competition only.). But the competition is finished, only the series isn't it. --Nordlicht8 (talk) 16:15, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
- The policy has changed, after an editor claimed it is considered non-encyclopedic info, and contradicts the guidelines about notabliity, since such info is short-lived by definition. So it was decided that only final standings should be allowed. The new policy also apply to Test cricket matches, World Cup events, group stage of tournaments, etc. Equestrianism is not alone. This is the ultimate in bullshit pedantic bean-counting
But the clen test came back after the second rest day, July 21. From that day forward is when the slate is wiped. So yellow jersey statistics is not exactly accurate – Contador got two of his six yellow jerseys from the 2010 Tour prior to the second rest day.
I'm not back. I just wanted to take care of 2011 Giro d'Italia. I feel like I'm taking a beloved old dog out back to shoot it between the eyes. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 20:28, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
- OK, I took care of 2011 Giro d'Italia. I'm gonna list it for GA as long as I'm here. The only thing holding it back from GA previously was the Contador resolution (it would have quick-failed if nominated). I'm not gonna dive in and "fix" the stages pages, but if you ever have time (which I tend to doubt...your plate is full!) you might take a look at them. Perhaps how I wrote the stages pages for the 2007 Giro d'Italia could give some way of how to handle this (but..perhaps not, since Petacchi was only in about a half dozen tables, not 15 or so like Contador).
- Sad day for our sport, no matter what. Keep up your good work here. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 20:54, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Article of the month – Hispania F110, current Good Article nominee
The Hispania F110 is a Formula One motor racing car designed and built by Dallara for Hispania Racing, for the 2010 season. It was driven by Karun Chandhok, Bruno Senna, Christian Klien and Sakon Yamamoto and was unveiled in Murcia, Spain, on 4 March 2010. It was the first car Hispania Racing entered in Formula One. The car used a Cosworth engine throughout the course of the 2010 season, of which it competed in every race with two of the four drivers who raced it. The team scored no points with the car during the season, and gained a highest result of fourteenth place. This was scored by both Chandhok and Senna, and meant that the team were placed eleventh and second-last in the 2010 World Constructors' Championship standings. The car gained no title sponsor from the team, and the car was never developed. Hispania's successor for their 2011 season campaign, the F111, was largely based upon the F110. Article of the month – 2011 Japanese Grand Prix, failed Good Article nominee
The 2011 Japanese Grand Prix (formally the XXXVII Japanese Grand Prix) was a Formula One motor race that was held on 9 October 2011 at the Suzuka Circuit in Suzuka, Japan. It was the fifteenth round of the 2011 Formula One season, and the thirty-eighth time the Japanese Grand Prix had been held. The race, contested over 53 laps, was won by McLaren's Jenson Button, after he started from second on the grid. Fernando Alonso finished in second place for Scuderia Ferrari, and Sebastian Vettel completed the podium, with third, for Red Bull Racing. Vettel had started the race in pole position alongside Button, whom he had marginally outqualified. The two drivers were the only two within mathematical contention for the title. Button attempted to overtake Vettel at the start of the race, yet was pressured towards the grass by Vettel which resulted in him losing second place to Lewis Hamilton (who had started in third). Vettel was passed by Button in the second pit-stop phase, and was then passed by Alonso in the third. Hamilton slipped back from second to fifth, predominantly in the pit-stops; debris from a collision between himself and Felipe Massa caused a safety car period in the race. The second Red Bull of Mark Webber finished in fourth position. As a consequence of the race, Vettel secured the World Drivers' Championship for the second year in succession, having only required one point prior to the weekend to be declared World Champion. Button remained in second place on the standings after his victory, extending the gap over third-placed Alonso to eight points. In the World Constructors' Championship, Red Bull's championship lead over McLaren was cut to 130 points, with Ferrari a further 96 points behind in third position. For fixing the "double ESPs" in the new F1 2012 results - that's what I get for copy-and-pasting someone else's work without checking it first (or afterwards). Good spot. Cheers! Bretonbanquet (talk) 19:32, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
- I have to say, yes, by the time I'd watched the race and I was updating the articles, everything was getting a little blurry... Same every year! Yeah, I was quite surprised at how good the race was. I wasn't all that excited this year for some reason, but now I'm looking forward to the rest of the season. I was convinced beforehand that Button would win - shame I'm not a betting man... haha... Bretonbanquet (talk) 23:48, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
- Unfortunately I couldn't go back to sleep after the race as I had family business to attend to - otherwise I'd have been straight back to bed! Did you watch on Sky? I have to confess that I found a cheeky live stream of the Sky footage on the internet, and watched that. Haha I did notice how Massa continued where he left off - people say it's because he sits so low in the car and can't see the cars around him. Either way, he has a lot of contact. I did think that GP2 looked a little weak this season, and now I see that FR3.5 is really quite a bit stronger. Interesting, that! I wouldn't be surprised if F1 teams are looking more in that direction for the up-and-coming stars. I can see Vettel getting another podium at Sepang, but I predict another McLaren win. Not sure which driver though. Yes, Hamilton looked so down after Melbourne, I was a bit surprised. I wonder if he had a big bet on?! Seemed a little unusual to me, and I wonder if his head is still a bit all over the place, like it was last season. Bretonbanquet (talk) 00:33, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
- Haha, great minds think alike. I was really surprised at the quality of the feed online. Who needs to pay money? And exactly, I'd hate to think I was giving Murdoch a single penny of my hard-earned cash. I hope he'd be outraged at our sneaky viewing of his output. Yep, that Ferrari does look hard to drive, and Massa struggles with that kind of car. He's going to have a long season ahead of him at this rate. It seems like our lower formulae go in phases - for a while they're strong, then they really drop off, like now. Hopefully they can come back stronger in a few years. I think F3 is too expensive at the moment - it's supposed to be relatively cheap, but you still need a lottery win to get through a season. No wonder the numbers are low. I'd love to see Button win again, even if it means another tizz for Hamilton. I'm interested in seeing just how stroppy he can get! If Mercedes can get all their ducks in a row, I think both Scumacher and Rosberg can be a threat. And maybe Kimi too. Plus I'd like to see HRT make the grid! Roll on Sunday, and yes, a more civilised hour! Bretonbanquet (talk) 00:13, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
- Wow. I thought the Sky figures might be low, and I heard their preview show only managed 600,000 viewers, but only 875,000 for the race? That's terrible, even accounting for the early morning start. I'll be interested in seeing how those figures pan out over the season, especially for those races that are shown live by both channels. F3 at £5-750,000 is outrageous. Last I heard it was £400,000 a few years back, and I thought that was bad enough. I don't know, Scherzinger could probably cheer me up!! Hahah, seriously though, that relationship doesn't seem to be doing Hamilton any favours. Button really has his head screwed on properly these days and that will make the difference between them on track. I'm becoming an HRT fan... do I need a doctor? Bretonbanquet (talk) 00:25, 23 March 2012 (UTC)
- Those figures are nothing for Sky to be proud of. If anything, I would expect the earlier races to produce their best viewing figures, and as the novelty of the new channel wears off a bit, the figures will drop. I might be wrong though, haha... I hope Brundle's happy. I agree with you on the Pussycat front - I was unaware of the merits and talents of Ms Wyatt - she looks most accommodating hahahah... we digress. I was one of those Minardi fans! We were few, but mighty. I even turned up to Goodwood one year wearing a Minardi shirt. There were no others like me... yeah, HRT are in Minardi territory, and no worse yet at least. First practice looked bad, but for FP2 they got within 107% - let's hope they qualify! Bretonbanquet (talk) 00:18, 24 March 2012 (UTC)
- I really hope the Sky deal collapses. Even though I find I can watch it for free anyway, F1 shouldn't be pay-per-view. Croft is a bit chatty isn't he?! And yes, I noticed that too, how he confused the Sauber and the Williams - that's pretty inexcusable. Even Muddly Talker didn't do that. Much. Haha.. good to see HRT on the grid, though I'm willing to bet that neither car will finish the race. I see Ricardo Teixeira is back in GP2... whatever next? Who is Giancarlo Serenelli and could either of us do a better job? Haha.. enjoy the racing :) Bretonbanquet (talk) 01:54, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Hahah, seriously though, that relationship doesn't seem to be doing Hamilton any favours. Button really has his head screwed on properly these days and that will make the difference between them on track. I'm becoming an HRT fan... do I need a doctor?
So we were both wrong about HRT! Even though Karthikeyan was in the wars, both cars finished, and I suspect the cooler weather had something to do with that, as both had overheating issues in practice. Onwards and upwards! I thought it was a good race though, apart from the red flag and safety car tedium. Good to see Alonso and Pérez up there - hopefully we'll get a few different winners this season. I'm going to keep my eye on Serenelli. He could be the next... Teixeira. Haha, I like a tryer. It looks like IndyCar for you then, if you're Justin Wilson-sized! You can take on Katherine Legge, and I'll tackle Serenelli and Teixeira ;) Bretonbanquet (talk) 22:46, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- I don't think Vettel covered himself in glory with those comments about Karthikeyan. Even if you consider it Karthikeyan's error, it was hardly a gross one. Contrast with Schumacher shrugging his shoulders at how Grosjean spun him around on the first lap. "That's motor racing" etc. I suspect Vettel may be quite a poor loser this year if he continues to lose... I did think Pérez had serious potential, but as always, you never know until they start to prove it in F1. He should go on from here and score more points and perhaps the odd podium, before surely switching to Ferrari. Kobayashi needs to get himself in gear before he's made to look distinctly second-hand! I agree about Alonso too - he seems to be the last driver to crack under pressure. So maybe Serenelli could show up at HRT and score a season full of DNQs? Haha, I'd love to see a return to maybe 15-18 teams and pre-qualifying. I loved that! "Sorry, son, I know it's only Friday morning but your weekend is over." Hahah... Those Indy videos were nice to see, and I hope some demons can slowly be laid to rest. I think that car is nice too! A really striking design. I'd love to see Rubens do well this year. Bretonbanquet (talk) 22:49, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
- That's how I saw it too - Vettel has a slight habit of cutting back in prematurely, and Karthikeyan was trying to get off the wet kerb. Racing incident for me, but not for Vettel...! I think Grosjean's been a bit unlucky so far, and he'll definitely give Kimi a run for his money. Yes, you're right, sadly - there'll never be that many cars in F1 again, barring major changes in the finances of the sport - but watching the panic of pre-qualifying would be awesome. Look forward to seeing what Rubens can do from midfield tomorrow - his racecraft should get him somewhere, surely. Fingers crossed for him! Bretonbanquet (talk) 18:01, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
It appears that since the Sports and Recreation heading at WP:GAN got moved down, many articles were forgotten. A three-month wait on a review is rather absurd... At any rate, I have reviewed this article here, and placed it on hold pending resolution of some issues. I see there are a couple other cycling team nominations as well. I'll make no promises on it, but will try to review them over the next few days as well. Regards, Resolute 01:23, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
- It's no problem at all. The reviews are half-selfish anyway, as I have two nominations waiting, and several coming up. Clearing the overall backlog helps my articles get their reviews faster! ;) Resolute 01:47, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
And the next GA review is up: Talk:2011 Euskaltel-Euskadi season/GA1. Regards, Resolute 21:29, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
- That's a shame. I hate to make you find 30 cites that all say "they sucked". Not even a team website with a listing of results? Resolute 21:34, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
And Europcar passed. Congrats! Resolute 02:19, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
Number three reviewed: Talk:2011 Vacansoleil-DCM season/GA1. Resolute 03:43, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

Article of the month – 2010 Auto Club 500, a Good Article
The 2010 Auto Club 500 was a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race held on February 21, 2010 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. Contested over 250 laps, it was the second race of the 2010 Sprint Cup Series season. The race was won by Jimmie Johnson for the Hendrick Motorsports team. Kevin Harvick finished second, and Jeff Burton, who started fourteenth, clinched third. Pole position driver Jamie McMurray maintained his lead into the first corner, but Juan Pablo Montoya, who had started in the second position on the grid, took the lead before the first lap was over. Afterward, Johnson became the leader, and would eventually lead to the race high of 101 laps. During the final pit stops, Johnson was on pit lane as the caution flag came out. Burton, who led the race during Johnson's pit stop, did not pass Johnson to put him a lap down. Therefore, Johnson retained the first position upon the completion of his pit stop. On the final lap, Harvick was gaining on Johnson, but Johnson maintained his position to win his first race of the season. There were six caution flags and twenty-eight lead changes among fourteen different drivers throughout the course of the race. The result moved Johnson up twenty-three spots to tenth in the Drivers' Championship, 78 points behind of leader Kevin Harvick and one ahead of Kyle Busch. Chevrolet maintained its lead in the Manufacturers' Championship, eight points points ahead of Toyota and nine ahead of Ford, with thirty-four races remaining in the season. Tom Dillmann
Just doing my usual post-race trawl through the GP2 drivers, and I've seen that you've done a great job on expanding and wikifying Tom Dillmann!--Midgrid(talk) 22:35, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
