(rm merge of Randall Denley content in violation of AFD consensus)
Hi Cindamuse,
I need some help understanding what you meant by putting the comment above on an edit you made at Ontario general election, 2011 (candidates). It was my understanding that the AFD decision was to merge the contents of the article about Randall Denley into the article above. Is this not right? See: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Randall Denley Ottawahitech (talk) 23:26, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
- A merge was never proposed or discussed in any manner in the deletion discussion. The community consensus determined that the appropriate action is to redirect to Ontario_general_election,_2011_(candidates). A merge has never been a viable option for the subject. Please know that the deletion and redirection of the Randall Denley article is nothing personal on my behalf. Additionally, know that the administrator that closed the discussion did not arbitrarily make the decision to redirect the article on his own. He was simply closing the discussion and indicating the consensus. The community has specific guidelines to determine subjects that warrant encyclopedia articles. At this time, Denley simply doesn't meet the threshold for inclusion. If the subject wins the election and garners media attention outside of his local area of influence, restoring the article shouldn't be a problem. Let me know if you have questions. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 00:12, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
- Now I am really confused: I assumed that a "re-direct" meant a "merge" since the first participant in the AFD discussion who suggested a re-direct said this:"...the politician guideline is clear that deletion is not the preferred option in such a case; the relevant information about Mr. Denley can be included in an article about the campaign itself". I am sorry to bother you with these questions, but I don't know where else to turn. I cannot find any references in the AFD discussion explaining "re-direct" Ottawahitech (talk) 00:24, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
- Nah, you're not bothering me with questions at all. When the editor said, "can be included in an article about the campaign itself", there was an assumption that there was an existing article about the campaign, which is different than the candidate page that lists everybody running various election campaigns in Ontario. Since there is not an existing campaign article, the discussion could only result in a redirect. On that note, I might suggest that (if you're interested) you could actually start the campaign page and include all the candidates running for the same position for which Denley is campaigning. Then the Denley information could be merged into that article. Just a thought. Cind.amuse (Cindy) 01:20, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
- What is an article about the campaign? I assume you don't mean this: Ontario general election, 2011? Thanks for you continued help. Ottawahitech (talk) 13:27, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

Article For Deletion: Randall Denley(political candidate and newspaper columnist)
Hi again Cindy,
A while ago you intiated an AFD discussion about Randall Denley. The result of the AFD was to re-direct to a certain page at Wikipedia. However, this morning I discovered that the page is being re-directed to different page. I wrote about it here: Talk:Ontario_general_election,_2011#Randall_Denley_-_Wikipedia_procedures_not_being_followed.3F and wonder if you could weigh in on the discussion that is not attracting a lot of participants.
Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 12:17, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

I've declined your speedy deletion - per the AFD, some editors feel the subject meets GNG. So, with the removal of problem text, it's no longer a copyright violation. We'll see how the AFD plays out and go from there. Cheers, m.o.p 02:38, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
- The CSD was not an A7 regarding the GNG, but a G12 copyright violation. The entire article is a verbatim copyright violation. To remove the "problem text" would result in an empty page. I would request that you take another look at this article in accordance with the deletion policy, which requires speedy deletion of blatant, whole-page copyright violation. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 02:45, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
- No, I know it was a G12, hence why I removed the copyrighted text. However, as I said, editors feel the subject is noteworthy, so the article should still go through AFD. If it's empty, someone's welcome to populate it with non-copyrighted text - from what I see, the sources are already present. m.o.p 02:52, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
- LOL, yep. "Pretty much" empty. I think I was looking at the page with the copyvio still in place and returned here to comment, while you were removing the copyvio. Thanks for the reply! Cind.amuse (Cindy) 02:58, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
- No worries, and yeah, this happens with copyright vios sometimes - I'm sure somebody will fill up the article soon (I would, but I like to stay uninvolved in AfDs to remain neutral). Cheers, m.o.p 03:03, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Ball State Digital Literacies course: Desire Ambassadors
Hello, Cindamuse. We talked briefly last spring when my Ball State University English department course Digital Literacies was doing group projects. I was unaware of the Ambassadors before starting last year, but this year we're starting a little earlier and I wanted to line up some Ambassador contacts if possible before students began their topic searches. This semester we will have four or five groups from one section; each will be collaborating on research for a single entry. If you could help by reminding me how to get in touch with the Online Ambassador program coordinators I would greatly appreciate it. Best, Webster Newbold
- Hey there, Dr Newbold! I'm more than happy to work with you again. Here are a couple of links to whet your appetite: Global Education Program and Wikipedia:United States Education Program. As always, I can be reached here or through email. I'm glad you're here! Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 10:42, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- Great news! I'll be introducing the assignment today at about 21:45 UTC (you're invited to "drop in" via chat, or perhaps we could get together real time at a later point). Students will begin choosing topics next Thursday Oct 13. I will have them in the meantime read through the Beginners' files you have linked to your talk page, Welcome to Wikipedia, etc. Between now and next week they will be setting up user accounts and playing in the sandbox, and next Thursday will be getting into groups. Can you think of anything else that might be helpful at this stage?
- Also, do you have a preferred channel of communication for me to contact you--Talk page or email? I find it more difficult to manage "dual channel" threads and may miss something important. I would prefer email but would also be happy to work in your talk page if that suits you better. Cheers! Webster Newbold (talk)
- Yes! email works best for me. The dual channel can get a bit weary sometimes. We can just continue communicating through email like last semester. Make sure to sign the "Memorandum of Understanding", so we can get the full support of the Foundation. Let me know if you have questions or need help. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 05:31, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Noel Ashman article
I took the time to completely rewrite the information that was previously in the article. There is no plagiarism in these sections now whatsoever. While it appears that an initial copy/paste copyvio occured, the manner in which I rewrote the information doesn't violate any copyrights. Could you please expound on your rationale? This would be helpful. Thank you. Northamerica1000 (talk) 14:20, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- The article was clearly a close paraphrasing with superficial modifications of the subject's bio at http://noelashman.com/index.php?pr=Bio. See the Duplication Detector for clarification. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 14:36, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- All right. However, in the future, please do not also delete all of the references in the article in the process, as you did in this case. I had to take the time to restore them to the References section of the article. Thank you for your consideration. Northamerica1000 (talk) 14:57, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- The references were properly removed, because they did not support the article content. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 15:03, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

Ronald06514 —Preceding undated comment added 00:11, 10 October 2011 (UTC).
- Hey there! All articles about organizations on Wikipedia are required to demonstrate notability through significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. If you are unable to meet this threshold by locating significant, reliable, and independent information about the subject, I would recommend that you come up with a different subject for your article. - Hi again. Thank you. I don't wish to seem ungrateful or start an argument, but since we're citing editing guidelines, the "proper response" on your part would have been to have offered some explanation on the category or my user talk page, having used Rollback to remove the edits of an experienced fellow editor, per the instructions at Wikipedia:Revert#Rollback. But you are also correct and I shall keep your advice in mind. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 16:28, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Matt Hader entry.
Hi Cindy,
I hope this finds you well. I'm writing regarding the entry for Matt Hader, a screenwriter and novelist friend of mine. I've been helping him edit his entry so that it will comply with Wikipedia's requirements. Apparently, his entry is slated for deletion (again!), and I'm wondering what we can do to make it valid.
Matt's actually quite well known among the screenwriting community. Unfortunately, the screenwriting community, though tight knit, is rather insular, so the general public is rather ignorant of screenwriters. It'd be nice if we could get more entries on Wikipedia devoted to screenwriters.
In addition to the screenplays Matt's written and the movies he's produced, Matt has served on panels at numerous film festivals, he's met and interacted with numerous celebrities (e.g., Sting; I can forward you a picture of Matt with him if you'd like), and he's authored numerous articles in magazines, and on websites, devoted to screenwriting and film.
If I were to add more links to external websites that corroborate the content of his entry, would that be sufficient to enable his entry to remain? If you would let me know what specifically is needed to render his entry sufficient for Wikipedia's requirements, I'd be very grateful (and I know Matt would, too!). Thank you for your time, Cindy.
Best wishes,
Todd Niemi — Preceding unsigned comment added by Teniemi (talk • contribs) 13:28, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Todd! As a whole, Wikipedia is not opposed to adding articles about screenwriters at all! The more the merrier. That said, there is a threshold for inclusion which requires establishing notability through the presentation of significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the coverage. There are also topical notability guidelines, that help assist editors in determining possible notability. Essentially, if screenwriters meet the threshold for authors or entertainers, they are likely to be notable, meaning that it is likely that significant, reliable and independent sourcing can be found. It's not enough to claim notability according to topical notability guidelines; each claim must be verified through significant, reliable, and independent sources. In the Matt Hader article, none of the sources meet this requirement. Your best course of action would be to locate appropriate sources. Please note that IMDb and press releases cannot be used to establish notability. Also, please remember to provide an edit summary and sign your comments, using four tildes, i.e., ~~~~ Feel free to contact me if you have additional questions. Dear Cindy, could you please tell me about the reasons for deleting the text about the Ephesus Foundation? How can I improve the text? 16:52, 5 October 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Creativenew (talk • contribs)
- Hey there! The Ephesus Foundation article was deleted in accordance with the deletion policy that addresses promotional content. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 10:21, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Cindy, so is there basically a problem with the content or with formal things (like headers etc.)? Because, I cannot see why it contains promotional content. The text is based on key facts about this non-profit organisation (like the article about the Clinton Foundation) without any promotional wording. I already read through the article wizard, but how do I create a subpage of my userspace? Thanks for further help!Creativenew (talk) 15:34, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi! Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of the article to address your specific questions. I would recommend contacting the administrator who deleted the article, Fastily, and ask him to "userfy" the article to your subpage at User:Creativenew/Ephesus Foundation. Ask him the same questions about why it is promotional. Once you have the article in your subpage, don't hesitate to contact me again. If you want to create other subpages, you just type in [[User:Creativenew/article name]]. Change words "article name" to whatever you want, like I used "Ephesus Foundation", above. Let me know if you need help. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 06:13, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

i have made some changes in my article. please go through my article and if satisfied can you please move the article to main page. this is my web page User:Shreyeah/Ram Gabale. thank you shreya.
- Hi Shreya! Right now, the article needs quite a bit more referencing to support information in the lead, Career, and Awards sections. I'm not sure what is going on with the citations in the Filmography section. The citations are floating at the top of the section, but there's no indication why they are there. Check out WP:INCITE and make sure to attach citations to the content that it directly supports. Keep working on the referencing. I'll be around for the next few hours, so hit me back if you need help. I think we can work to get this moved before long! Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 07:18, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Mentorship and where to work
So there is an article list for my class now. There are 62 articles that my students will be working on in groups of 1-5. Now I'm still grading their last assignment to add a sourced sentence to an article and review the sentences of two other students, but my spot-checking shows that they have trampled a lot of articles. I'm going to try to fix the problems as I go. So that's why it is my plan to have students work in Sandbox on their improvements and later move anything appropriate into the main space. Does that sound like a good plan? There are a handful of red links in the table, isn't there a WP process for new article creation, perhaps those students could go through that? I also thought if you and the other OAs (and/or Elonka) wanted (or thought it desirable) to take a more pro-active mentor ship role it might make sense to add another column to the table and you can divide out articles to monitor, or at least check-in on occasionally. I don't know how often students have come to you for help, but they aren't really good at help-seeking behavior. --MTHarden (talk) 04:31, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
- I hadn't heard back from you about this. --MTHarden (talk) 15:10, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hey there! I've been down with the flu this past month, combined with a huge increase in my workload here, I'm just now trying to jump back in to the swing of things. Checking my talk page, I noticed I hadn't responded here. Please accept my apologies, catching up has been a bit overwhelming. Working in the sandbox is ideal. Not sure what you're thinking about as far as a WP process for new article creation. We have Wikipedia:Articles for creation and Wikipedia:Article wizard. Check those two out. Every OA works differently, so you would probably have different answers to your questions about dividing out articles. I think it is ideal, but difficult to initiate after the course has started. At this point, I will make sure to stop by and check the work of each student and remind them that we're here if they have questions. Encourage your students to contact us! Otherwise, all our training goes to waste and we just sit here getting old. ;) Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 21:35, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

GOCE drive newsletter
Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors
The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their November 2011 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on November 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on November 30 at 23:59 (UTC). We will be tracking the number of 2010 articles (and specifically will be targeting the oldest three months), as we want to copy edit as many of these as possible. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits more than 4,000 words, and special awards will be given to the top 5 in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02, and SMasters. |

FYI - party link localization, Iowa
Since you've been working with the political party class project, I thought I'd copy you on a message I put on its instructor's talk page: I'm localizing the party links in some Iowa articles so that links referring solely to the Iowa Democratic Party or to the Republican Party of Iowa actually point there instead of inappropriately pointing to Democratic Party (United States) or Republican Party (United States) as they tend to do now. While this will direct more traffic to the state-level articles, you shouldn't notice anything; I just thought you might want to know. --Philosopher Let us reason together. 09:20, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Request for feedback
Hello Cindamuse. I've edited an article on Information ethics as part of the University of Toronto's participation in the Canada Education Program (Wikipedia:Canada_Education_Program/Courses/Knowledge_and_Information_in_Society_(Andrew_Clement_and_Siobhan_Stevenson)) and was wondering if it would be possible for you to review my edits and kindly provide me with some feedback? Thank you in advance! Your help is much appreciated. --Pbm660 (talk) 13:59, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

My name is Dennis Adley. I am in the aforementioned class at Southern Connecticut State University. I have, to date, not felt that I required any assistance in editing my stub article on Campaign for America's Future. The editing and additions that I have made are now up on the mainspace. Since I have not pursued any assistance in the process thus far, I am without feedback on my progress, as well as not knowing exactly what if anything the article is lacking. I would appreciate your taking a look at the Campaign for America's Future page and let me know how I'm doing. Thank you, Adleyd1 (talk) 22:13, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Class outside the USEP
I've run into a slightly unusual situation and thought I'd check with you as to the next best step, as you're on the steering committee. Take a look at the notes I've left here and here; I think it would be good for someone in the education program to reach out to Professor Tompkins to see what we can do to help. Let me know anything else you think I could do to help out. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 19:31, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
- Kinda confusing. I'm guessing that Mitch (St Charles) has a group of students working on Exercise addiction. And at the same time, User:Tatompki (not participating in the USEP) is also working on the same article? I'm here, I just need to review it a bit more. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 19:46, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, that's exactly the situation -- sorry I wasn't clearer. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 19:49, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
- It looks like a group from User:Tatompki's class just chose this subject today. How did you discover this? Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 19:54, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
- I had the article on my watchlist because I'm an OA for the Missouri class, and I noticed SandyGeorgia's comments on the talk page. Mitch Harden just responded that it's a good problem to have, so he's OK with it; I think so long as Professor Tompkins is also OK with it the only remaining issue would be helping her class via the ambassador program. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 20:09, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
- Tompkins students are requesting that the St Charles group select a different article. Due to the fact that the St Charles group created the Exercise addiction article, I've made a recommendation that the Linfield College students select a separate article. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 20:16, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Political Parties Project
Hi Cindy - I am the Campus Ambassador for ISU's Political Parties course. I am facilitating a workshop on Tuesday on images, copyright, and possibly infoboxes. To be honest, the image uploading and copyright "stuff" is fairly confusing to me. I'm hoping you could give me some tips on what tips I should give the students! Talk soon, Casey Cecoker (talk) 00:44, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
Hi Cindamuse! I am in Zach's Comm 375 class and my wiki article is on Alcohol advertising on college campuses and I made a rough draft so I was wondering if maybe when you have a chance, read through it and maybe give me some feedback? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I have never really even explored Wikipedia before this class since most professors warn us to stay away so any suggestions or ideas would be awesome! Thanks so much for your time! My rough draft article is http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Alcohol_Advertising_on_College_Campuses. Thanks!
