Christopher Mason Powell is not my name, nor the name of a company. It is the name of an American entertainer. My intention is to create an entry about Chris that is regarded as informational versus promotional. Chris is aware of this effort. In this capacity, I edited the bio he forwared me for editing and after I finished it, I presented it to Wikipedia for consideration. I disclosed that I have known Chris for many years via email. I also disclose here, now, that I received no compensation (or anticipate any in the future) for my effort.
I am a Technical Editor and writer for the Department of Homeland Security and have worked as a Patent Editor for the South Korea gov't. This is my first experience with Wikipedia. As such, I would appreciate continued guidance. (1) I created the account titled "Christopher Mason Powell" to have a means to submit his bio. Was this incorrect? I thought if I used my user name, it would appear as the header for his bio. Christopher Mason Powell (talk) 21:35, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
- Hi, User:Christopher Mason Powell. Yes, you using that name is against the rules here, do follow Oshwa's instruction above.
- I'm afraid you've choosen a difficult/impossible topic to start with, but we'll see (and you're hardly the first).
- Per what you wrote at Oshwa's talkpage you have (on WP) a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Take your time and read that.
- Next. Take a look at our general notability guideline WP:GNG. That's your hurdle, and if you can't fulfil it, nothing you write about Christopher Mason Powell on WP will stay in the long run, trust me on this. Creating articles that "sticks" is among the hardest things to do on WP, and as a new editor you'll probably trip over some Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines.
- If you conclude "GNG is no problem, I have those sources, easy." go on to Wikipedia:Your first article and follow the guidance there. That means you'll start a draft, work on it until your done and then submit it for review.
- Noone will see questions you write here unless they actually look (or you WP:PING), but WP:TEAHOUSE is a good forum to ask questions. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 23:01, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing may also be of interest. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 23:38, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

- I think they mean this edit: [1]. The above is correct, but compared to other things that has been done to Oshwah's talkpage it was quite innocent. We learn the ways of WP as we go along. Good luck with your editing! Unfortunately you seem to have choosen something that is between very hard and impossible in the WP-context to edit about.
