Please do not write or add to an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. Your user page

[edit]

Hi. Your user page appears to be a draft of an article about yourself. Although it is okay to work on a draft in your sandbox, you main user page should not be hosting this content because user pages are not a personal web site, and in particular, the page gives the appearance of being a Wikipedia article. I suggest you blank the page, or replace it with material that complies with Wikipedia:User pages and work on your draft in the sandbox. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 20:25, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Advice

[edit]

Your draft is now at User:Chrissyspratt/Chrissy Spratt - see below.

The first thing to say, with apologies, is that (because it is keen for everyone to come and edit) Wikipedia does not make it clear enough at sign-on time that it is not the same sort of "notice-board" site as Myspace and Facebook where people write about themselves and their own concerns. It is quite a different sort of site, a project to build an encyclopedia, and writing about oneself, though not forbidden, is strongly discouraged, for reasons explained at Wikipedia is not about YOU and Wikipedia:Autobiography.

One difference from the Myspace type of site is that a Wikipedia article is not "owned" by anybody, not its first author and certainly not its subject. If you post an article, others can and will edit it, you will not be able to insist on your preferred version, and you may encounter Wikipedia's Law of Unintended Consequences. If you are looking for your own "home page", Wikipedia is not the place to come. See User:JohnCD/Not a noticeboard for some background.

Specific advice: if you want to go ahead, use the WP:Articles for creation system. To make that easier, I have moved your sandbox to User:Chrissyspratt/Chrissy Spratt and put a {{userspace draft}} template on the top. That includes a link to useful advice, and also a "Submit the page!" button which you can use to submit it, when an experienced user will look at it and either accept it or give you feedback.

Advice on the article: read WP:Your first article. Take great care to write in a neutral tone. Cite sources for any important claims - the WP:Verifiability policy is that "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source". You need to establish WP:Notability by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." See WP:42 for what that means. Youtube, Facebook and the like don't count as reliable (because anyone can post anything there) - I should trim some of those out - and your own sites are not independent.

Your user page: another difference from Myspace is that user pages are intended for the volunteers who are here to build the encyclopedia to say something about themselves and their Wikipedia work, if they wish, to help communication within the project. They are not for full biographies, anything that looks like a WP:FAKEARTICLE, or any "substantial content... that is unrelated to Wikipedia.". I advise you to trim yours back to a few lines, or it is liable to be nominated for deletion.

If you don't mind my asking, why did you ask me for advice, rather than the admin who actually deleted your article, user Jimfbleak (talk)?

You can ask any questions below here - I will watch this talk page. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 23:46, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
