COI

[edit]

Welcome. You have an obvious conflict of interest and you must declare it. If you work directly or indirectly for an organisation, or otherwise are acting on its behalf, you are very strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. If you are paid directly or indirectly by the organisation you are writing about, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Charbel Antoine Mahfoud. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Charbel Antoine Mahfoud|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If you are being compensated, please provide the required disclosure. Note that editing with a COI is discouraged, but permitted as long as it is declared. Concealing a COI can lead to a block. Please do not edit further until you respond to this message.

You must also clarify what your connection is with AFEDonline.

Now read the following regarding writing an article

  • you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the person or an associated organisation, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the person claims or interviewing them. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls
  • you must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic.
  • there shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
  • you must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.

Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Also read Your first article. You must also reply to the COI and connected accounts requests above Jimfbleak - talk to me? 05:55, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Jim,

I have created the user AFEDonline to be able to edit an already existing page called Arab Forum for Environment and Development which I did not create. The user AFEDonline was blocked since the name was judged as commercial or for advertising a website. Then I decided to create my personal user Charbel Mahfoud from which I am trying to create a page for a writer called Najib Saab. Najib Saab and I are colleagues, does that prohibit me from creating a page in his name? I am doing this as a favor for him and free of charge. The tone of the text is purely non-promotional. Please find the text to be put on Najib W. Saab page below:Charbel Antoine Mahfoud (talk) 07:37, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for email. I've removed the suggested text above since it's effectively recreating deleted material and I can read the deleted article anyway. Note that I won't necessarily see messages here unless you start them with my user name User:Jimfbleak and sign with four tildes ~~~~ in the same edit. That will send me an alert.
Because you have created a blocked account, this should be blocked too, but I'll accept that it's a personal account and that you are making an effort. However, you must follow the guidance above. Even if you are not paid you must put {{Connected contributor|User1=Charbel Antoine Mahfoud |U1-EH=yes |U1-declared=yes |U1-otherlinks=COI declared in the edit summary of first edit}}
on the article talk page and make it clear that you know him.
Your text was sourced only to your own organisation which is not an independent third-party source, and most of the text had no references at all, including the quotations. We must be able to check that that is what was said.
Your text is not neutral. You use words like leading, extensive and expert which are opinions, not facts. You also don't wikilink to other articles like American University of Beirut
I suggest that you take a look at eg Pamela C. Rasmussen as an example of a biographical article, although you won't need that mush detail, and note that any image you use cannot have been published elsewhere before.
