Tamil spellings
[edit]I have seen you correcting Tamil spellings here and in Ta. wikipedia. While your corrections are somewhat correct for North Indian/Hindi names, you are making mistakes in spelling the Tamil names. I guess you are spelling them as you are pronouncing them, but they are wrong. Rajinikanth is ரஜினிகாந்த் and not ரஜ்னிகாந்த். similarly Jayalalitha is ஜெயலலிதா not ஜயலலிதா. The subjects themselves, the media a large majority of the tamil people spell these names like this only. So if you have a doubt ask in the talk page, don't change them on your own.--Sodabottle (talk) 03:34, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
Hi there. I'm afraid I had to revert your edits to Dinakaran. First, you added the Hindi name of the newspaper, which is redundant for a Tamil newspaper. It is no more important than the Hebrew one. - i am sorry, chanvis18 is me but i didn't know i had a tamil wikipedia page until you told me about it. thanks for letting me know. now to answer your question i did the tamil translation using google indic. look at deepika padukone's name written in hindi. it's not தீபிகா படுகோனே but தீபிகா படுகோண்.

- Correcting the name is ok. But machine translation (google or MS) is still woefully inadequate for tamil. We dont usually allow machine translated articles in Ta Wiki. I have copy edited the article to correct the translation/usage errors. But please dont use the toolkit for atleast another year. - I got it now. You did not translate the new page. But created a new one with the correct title. apologies for the mistake. Please use the "move/நகர்த்துக” tool to move the article to a new page instead of creating a new one with the correct title. No links in section headings
[edit]Regarding your recent edits at M. Karunanidhi, please be aware that it is against Wikipedia guidelines to add wikilinks or other special formatting within section headings. Hindi transliteration

Please dont add devanagari transliterations for Tamil names. a)It is undue b) It has the potential to lead to huge and nasty edit wars (has happened in the past). In english wikipedia, we add the tranliteration only in the native language of the name or in case of places in the official language of the place. We dont add other transliterations. Adding other language transliterations has led to out of control edit wars, where outraged editors countertag articles with their own languages. (for e.g. some outraged Tamilian will insist on adding tamil script to a hindi name. or a kannadiga will come and say, if hindi is added, kannada script should be there). So we keep it very simple - native tongue for people, local official language for places (there too dont add hindi for non-hindi states :-)).
Also remember devanagiri is not universally recognised and is highly undue here. I get it you want to provide a pronunciation guide for non-Tamil people, but for that you need to add a audio file or a IPA transliteration. as much as i appreciate and respect your comments let me explain why i did what i did. dinakaran is a Tamil daily which is why there is a Tamil transliteration and since Hindi is like the national language i added a Hindi transliteration also for non-tamil speakers to be able to understand the pronunciation since dinakaran is also published in non-tamil speaking cities like Delhi. if "some outraged Tamilian will insist on adding tamil script to a hindi name" well, they have all the right to do so but that wouldn't make sense since Tamil is not India's national language but only a regional language just like Kannada is. so your argument that "some outraged Tamilian will insist on adding tamil script to a hindi name. or a kannadiga will come and say, if hindi is added, kannada script should be there" doesn't seem to make sense. please understand that i am not being disrespectful here. now, i leave it to you to decide. have a nice day !!! bye.

also i would like you to kindly look at this from a slightly different angle. if dinakaran is a tamil magazine all the tamil speaking people already know how to pronounce it which makes a tamil transliteration kind of redundant, don't you think? it is the non-tamil speaking people from India who need to be educated on how to pronounce it. and how do you do that? what better way to do it than in hindi because hindi is India's national language whether we all like it or not. get it? :-)

- Here is the thing - Hindi is NOT india's national language. check out our own Languages with official status in India article. A lot of people are misinformed and misguided on this either due to arrogance or because of brainwashing by Hindi fanatics down the years. Hindi is only the "official language" of India along with English. HINDI IS NOT INDIA'S NATIONAL LANGUAGE, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT NOT :-). (I am saddened how many times i have to tell this people brainwashed by hindi fanatics. I even wrote Anti-Hindi agitations of Tamil Nadu with the help of what i read to explain to the "hindi is national language" believers). Believe me, this argument has been played out hundreds of times before in Wikipedia. There have been lots of people before you who have erroneously argued for the "national language" argument. We have reached consensus here that we won't add devanagari script for the non devanagari language names. So in short - Hindi has no locus standi in Tamil Nadu (The consititution says so, the Official Languages Act of 1963 and its amendment in 1967 say so).
- And this is the English wikipedia, and this is read worldwide not just in India, so adding a pronunciation guide in english or International Phonetic Alphabet (or an audio file) makes sense, how does adding a hindi transliteration make sense in English wikipedia?. If you want to help non-Tamils pronounce the name, it should be in a way ALL non-Tamils pronounce. Not just devanagari knowing people. (English wikipedia is not just for people from India) If we go down this road all major scripts of the world have to be added for all articles. The examples i quoted (tamils adding tamil script in retailiation, kannadigas doing so, hindi script doing so) are actual examples that have happened in wikipedia. This is a sensitive issue, compounded by people's ignorance of the language policy and its history of India.

Note that according to WP:PAIC (and WP:REFPUN) "Where footnotes (ref tags) are adjacent to most punctuation, such as a comma or period, place them after the punctuation, with no intervening space. hello muhandes,
i AM familiar with WP:PAIC and WP:REFPUN. it's not nasty and in fact it makes the layout appear nice and pleasing when you leave a space between regular sentences and references, especially when you open the edit page for any article. otherwise when you edit you don't know where a regular sentence ends and a reference begins. and just as a friendly suggestion - we don't even know each other. for all we know we are practically strangers to each other; so please try to be polite when you communicate with strangers on the internet. :-)

Formatting dates
[edit]Regarding one of your recent edits at Ashok Gehlot:
Please take a look at the Manual of Style's guidelines on date formatting. Ordinal suffixes should not be added to date numbers (i.e., write "9", not "9th"). Both "9 June 2001" or "June 9, 2001" are correct options.
Thanks for your work in general. Your copyediting efforts are appreciated. Still, I would advise you to take to heart the rest of the Wikipedia:Manual of Style before copyediting further, as this isn't the first time you have found yourself working against its guidelines, which were arrived at by the consensus of many editors.
