    • Template:Cite Q on Wikipedia makes it easier to use Wikidata items as Wikipedia references.
  • Development
    • Continuing work with the WMF search team to automatically categorize WDQS queries to see how they can better be served
    • Query Builder work is continuing. Next step is making it possible to create a query with an arbitrary Property instead of the currently hard-coded post code.
    • Feedback round for the REST API is finishing this week and then we will review all the feedback and make changes to the spec accordingly.
    • Preparing to release 1.35 version of Wikibase docker image (phab:T264538)
    • Fixed Math extension to not require JS parser which caused issues creating new Statements for mathematical formulae (phab:T266673)
    • Made sure there is a meaningful edit summary when deleting a Lexeme (phab:T263435)

  • There is no new MediaWiki version this week.

Future changes

  • You can see reference previews. This shows a preview of the footnote when you hover over it. This has been a beta feature. It will move out of beta and be enabled by default. There will be an option not to use it. The developers are looking for small or medium-sized wikis to be the first ones. You can let them know if your wiki is interested. [1]
  • From November 16 the categories will not be sorted in order for a short time. This is because the developers are upgrading to a new version of the internationalisation library. They will use a script to fix the existing categories. This can take a few hours or a few days depending on how big the wiki is. You can read more. [2][3]

PabloLikesToWrestle Good day. I was not doing well for the last two weeks. The stress on the nerve on the neck led to Shingles on my face and I had massive headache and need prescription pain killer and nerve pain drugs and even that I still felt the pain in head. Sleeping was a huge problems. Shingles healed pretty quickly but I still have headache and the doctor said it will last at least one month. So here I go. As for the articles about I have made a redirect of Michael Grundy to Mike Grundy. Thank you letting me know. Btw, I dont remember which article that you write about McGregor (a super star....) which I have reverted, pls do note that when add any content in any articles in Wikipedia, we need to write the content in WP:NPOV (neutral point of view). Cassiopeia Holy damn dude, that does not sound like fun at all, hopefully the pain goes away as much as possible throughout the month and doesn't have to go further than that. Thank you very much. Haha, yeah, I think I wrote "...expected to face UFC superstar Conor..." to try to explain a little bit the massiveness of the contest, but it's totally fine if the word is to be avoided. I also added that the fight is not finished nor official as per Dana White, as McGregor hasn't signed the contract yet, but that was reverted as well.
Also, I saw that you're active in Wikipedia Commons, uploading screenshots of mixed martial artists at interviews. I was thinking about doing the same with the articles I create about wrestlers, if you could give me basic instructions on how to that (the process and all the sections I have to fill with info are nuts), I'd really appreciate it. PabloLikesToWrestle Good day. The pain is slowly subside but the head is still feeling heavy, like thousands of meddles pining into my brain and from time to time feeling sharp pain here and there - it is hard to think or focus that doing anything requiring that. Hopefully by mid of next month, things will get to normal. As for the image uploading - here are some info you need to familiar with:
  1. Read Wikipedia:Image use policy - pls have a good read (very important as Wikipedia takes violation of WP:COPYVIO extremely seriously), especially on WP:IUPC section. (Note: if you are the copyright owner, which means you are "the one" took the photo). It is not easy to find sites who give the that is free use or indicates "License Creative Commons Attribution license".
  2. Read Wikipedia:Uploading images - on file names and formats (use JPG or PNG formats)
  3. Upload the image to Wikimedia Commons and follow the steps and instructions.
  4. Once it is uploaded - Click on the "Use this file" on top of the image file (on Wikimedia Commons) and copy the file name (without the file but with the format) and paste into Wikipedia article. Example here just copy "Lyman_Good_at_UFC_230.jpg" into the article accordingly.
  5. If you find video that states "License Creative Commons Attribution license", then let me know as it needs few more steps to upload the image.

Recent changes

  • Listings on category pages are sorted on each wiki for that language using a library. For a brief period on 16 November, changes to categories will not be sorted correctly for most languages. This is because the developers are upgrading to a new version of the library. They will then use a script to fix the existing categories. This will take a few hours or a few days depending on how big the wiki is. You can read more. [4][5]

Changes later this week

  • If you merged two pages in a namespace where pages can't redirect this used to break the merge history. This will now be fixed. [6]
  • Recurrent item The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 17 November. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 18 November. It will be on all wikis from 19 November (calendar).

Future changes

  • The Community Wishlist Survey is now open for proposals. The survey decides what the Community Tech team will work on. You can post proposals from 16 to 30 November. You can vote on proposals from 8 December to 21 December.

    • ALEC (A List of Everything Cool) is a tool to explore biodiversity content in Wikidata.
  • Other Noteworthy Stuff
    • Join the upcoming #1Lib1Ref Wikipedia campaign from January 15th to February 5th 2021 and improve Wikidata items by adding references to statements.
  • Development
    • Added "Random lexeme" link under dedicated section for lexicographical data in the Wikidata sidebar (phab:T205525). Thanks to Matěj Suchánek!
    • Working on language/spelling variant selector bug on Special:NewItem and Special:NewLexeme that makes it difficult to continue creating Items or Lexemes (phab:T266638)
    • Work on the Query Builder continues. We're focusing on making it possible to query for all Items with a specific Property but any value next.
    • Went over all the feedback we have received for the REST API specification draft. Overall the feedback is positive and really useful. So we will move ahead after thinking more about the remaining points that were raised.
    • Working on making changes to descriptions show up in the RecentChanges feed and watchlists on Wikipedia and co as well even if they are not explicitly used (phab:T191831)
    • Fixed a problem adding statements with Properties of datatype mathematical formula (phab:T266496)
    • Kicked off our new effort to implement a predictable release cycle and release infrastructure for Wikibase suite by creating a prototype build workflow (phab:T267553) and prototype test workflow (phab:T267554)

Deleted Article “Mohammed Mokaev”

Hi I recently submitted an article for “Mohammed Mokaev”

Rassmallai, Good day. You can ask for WP:REFUND and copy and paste in note pad (not word) and then asked for creator deletion (place {{Db-g7}} on top of the page. However, the subject is not notable and will not be notable for a long time to come (many years). A MMA fighter needs at least 3 fights under tier one (UFC) to meet WP:MMABIO, and routine reports or interview or merely mentioned even in independent, reliable sources would not meet WP:GNG. If you continues to submit and the article is deleted, the subject (article) will be blocked from creation. I suggest you to write other subject which pass notability guidelines, until Mokaev is signed by UFC. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia(talk) 06:38, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

    • EntityShape.js is a script that allows you to check an Item against an EntitySchema. On the Item page, it will display various information about the Item, like the properties that should be present on the Item.
  • Development
    • Query Builder: We're making it possible to switch between querying for specific values (e.g. all Items with a specific post code) or any value (all Items with a post code statement regardless of which one it is)
    • Correcting the behaviour of what automatically happens on Wikidata when a page is moved on Wikipedia and co to an excluded namespace with the "suppress redirect" option (phab:T261275)
    • Making language fallback indicators not show up for language variant fallbacks in a few more places (phab:T267502)
    • Adding html language attributes for statements linking to Forms and Senses (phab:T267023)
    • Working on language and lexical category fields turning red on unfocus even though no changes are made after a change in ooui (phab:T266936)
    • Finished building the 1.35 versions of the Wikibase base and bundle docker images and published to dockerhub (phab:T264538)

So Ticelon brought up a good point on https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft_talk:Khaos_Williams about the naming of the fighter. Moving of Justin Tafa to draft

I noticed you moved Justin Tafa to Draft:Justin Tafa and left a message at User talk:Isingness. I don't understand this as that user was already blocked when you posted that notice.

Alexis Jazz Good day. Thank you for your message. Tafa has yet to meet the WP:MMABIO notability guidelines until he has fought his third fight in UFC on Jan 16, 2021 - see - see here. We, the mma editors in Wikipedia to keep track of all the UFC fighters (in my watchlist and other editor's watchlist- see example on my talk page 'message title :New Fighters") and we will update the info/content accordingly and I will review it and move it to main space after his third fight. @HeinzMaster and Alexis Jazz: (including Heinz here), Hi Alexis, a draft page will not be automatically deleted after 6 months if no edit is made as it has to be nominated for G13 by an editor and the involved admin needs to review the draft page if G13 is applicable. (I used to nominate G13 regularly in the past). Rightfully, if the draft is potentially pass GNG or SNG then the nominator should made a dammy edit and states "delay G13" on the edit summary that will automatically reset the G13 from the last edit for another 6 months. However, to say that many nominators might not read the content of the draft before tag G13. I used to create all the MMA fighters page when they are notable for the past 3.5 years right up to few months ago when Henz join the effort of creating the pages. I didnt create in draft pages first as I created them right after the fighters secured their 3 fight in UFC since I am not only a reviewer but also have autopatrol right so, the pages would shown on mains pace right after the creation. UFC 256

Hello. I still disagree with your reverts regarding the Figueiredo/Moreno bout. The background info always had such updates and they are not reverted. We never wait until UFC confirms those bouts before adding. Just like the other 3 previous title fights that were supposed to happen. Based on your opinion only, we should have removed them. Not to mention other bouts that never for "officially announced". You can't treat that situation like you did as one case scenario. Please do not repeat it again. It made no sense at all to remove that kind of information and you actually broke the 3RR by doing it. Obviously I'm not going to report it, but just a heads up for future instance. Since the UFC announced it, I'm fixing the text, but I would've brought it to higher instance if it didn't happen. Thanks! Gsfelipe94 (talk) 23:20, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Gsfelipe94 It is not about UFC confirms the bout, but it is that the bout is still in negotiation which means it is not officially signed. 3RR is revert more than 3 time, I did only 3 but not the 4th. take care felipe.06:23, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
That's not the case, as many other bouts on "announced bouts" or "background" section are announced the same way that this one was. It should've been kept there, just like others have been and will be. Take UFC 257 for example as the exact same situation. Gsfelipe94 (talk) 20:43, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
The content of the announced bout and the background sections are recorded when the bout are announced by the press when the contracts are signed. The different is that in the background section we place "while not official announce by UFC" is for the title /main/co-main bouts. If the bout btw Figuiredo/Moreno are signed by both parties now since the negotiation has been announced for more than 5 days, then add the content back in with source. Changes later this week

  • Recurrent item The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 1 December. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 2 December. It will be on all wikis from 3 December (calendar).

Future changes

  • The iOS Wikipedia app will show readers more of the article history. They can see new updates and easier see how the article has changed over time. This is an experiment. It will first be shown only to some iOS app users as a test. [9][10]
  • Advanced item The Wiki Replicas can be used for SQL queries. You can use Quarry, PAWS or other ways to do this. To make the Wiki Replicas stable there will be two changes. Cross-database JOINS will no longer work. You can also only query a database if you connect to it directly. This will happen in February 2021. If you think this affects you and you need help you can post on Phabricator or on Wikitech. [11]
