Dispute resolution volunteer survey

Dispute Resolution – Volunteer Survey Invite

Hello Cabe6403. To follow up on the first survey in April, I am conducting a second survey to learn more about dispute resolution volunteers - their motivations for resolving disputes, the experiences they've had, and their ideas for the future. I would appreciate your thoughts. I hope that with the results of this survey, we will learn how to increase the amount of active, engaged volunteers, and further improve dispute resolution processes. The survey takes around five to ten minutes, and the information you provide will not be shared with third parties other than to assist in analyzing the results of the survey. No personally identifiable information will be released.

Please click HERE to participate.
Many thanks in advance for your comments and thoughts.

You are receiving this invitation because you have either listed yourself as a volunteer at a dispute resolution forum, or are a member of a dispute resolution committee. For more information, please see the page that describes my fellowship work which can be found here. Szhang (WMF) (talk) 02:46, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Frank Mellish

Hello Cabe6403. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Frank Mellish, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: having played Rugby at international level is enough to pass WP:NSPORT, let alone A7. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 22:36, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Glenfarclas distillery, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Speyside (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). DRN

Cabe, thank you for working at DRN. I've noticed that on the last couple of disputes you've weighed in on that you've done so before all of the parties have given their opening statements. The general practice at DRN, worked out in past discussion on the talk page, is to wait for all the disputants to state their position before a volunteer jumps in (except in those cases where the case should be closed as a conduct dispute or be closed for insufficient discussion). It's not a hard and fast rule and, indeed, I've not waited on occasion when there was an absolutely clear policy-based resolution to the matter. You may know all this already, and it's always a matter of discretion, but I just wanted to make sure that you had not overlooked it. Best regards, and again, thanks for helping, TransporterMan (TALK) 14:05, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

PS: It is considered okay to simply leave a greeting to the parties and to say that you'll be handling the case once everyone weighs in. — TM 14:08, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
Hi TM, I've been attempting to simply offer a very simple overview of how I see the field before the game starts, as it where. Just to allow parties to confirm/correct that is how the situation currently is. Anyway, I will try leave it a little later in the future and simply greet everyone. Prescott Studios

Dear Cabe6403.

My Wikipedia name is Italo Tedesco and my real name Mauro Conti.

I would like to explain you why «Prescott Studio» shouldn't be delete. - Surtitling (the theatrical version of subtitling, created in 1984, in Canada) is one of the most relevant newness in the field of translation. - Theatre (opera and drama) is the start point of every form of performing art but, today, is a very fragile artistic area because of the strong competition with every kind of video. - The use of surtitling in theatre increased a lot the audience, but it needs a several specializations to operate. - Prescott Studio, in this sense, create a particular editing system that begins to be a model for others operators. - No other company, in Europe, has been so deeply involved in surtitling as Prescott Studio. - Academic studies have been dedicated to Prescott Studio.

Those are the main reasons why, I think, Prescott Studio should have a place in Wikipedia.

Best regards,

Mauro — Preceding unsigned comment added by Italo Tedesco (talkcontribs) 15:34, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi there Mauro, first of all, welcome to Wikipedia, I see you are relatively new. Here on wikipedia we have a number of policies that determine if a subject/event/etc is notable enough for inclusion in wikipedia. Regarding businesses those policies can be found here: WP:NCOMPANY. In order to establish notability we need to have WP:Verifiability using independent third party sources. If you can, take a read of both those pages and hopefully it will answer the question of why I have tagged the article you created for deletion. If you have further questions once you have read, feel free to ask me here.
One more thing, if you are associated with Prescott Studio then you shouldn't be the one to make the article as you have a conflict of interest. If the company is notable enough, don't worry, someone will come along and make the article for you soon enough Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 15:41, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
Hi Cabe, I just wanted to let you know that I removed the speedy deletion tag from the article. It looks like it was placed there about 2 minutes after the article was created, and I was thinking we should probably give Mauro a little more time than that to address the concerns about notability, etc. ~Adjwilley (talk) 17:31, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Lee Kaplan deletion

I am puzzled by your instant deletion. Kaplan came to my attention because of this article [3] I noticed that the subject of the article Anna Baltzer has a wikipedia page. It appears to me that the level of her notability and the kind of work she does is in many ways similar to the work Kaplan does. They are both high politicized journalists working on opposite sides of a dispute. Now, if you look at this page [4] about Baltzer, you will see that the arguments for deleting her page [5] were discussed, but it was kept. I think that there should at least be a debate about kaplan's notability as there was with Baltzer.FinchleyRd (talk) 16:40, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi there, firstly, please take a read of WP:OTHERSTUFF, the jist of it is 'just because X exists, doesn't mean that Y should too'. Doing a quick google search there is very little in the way of WP:RS to confirm that Lee Kaplan meets WP:NJOURNALIST, i.e. 3rd party sources about himself. However, searching Anna Baltzer produces articles on her as an individual. Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 16:46, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Yes, indeed. I am the business developer at becoacht. I will add more sources to the articel but we are a new start-up and therefore we do not have too much sources. I will try my best to add as much as possible and it would be great if you could me with referencing mistakes. Thank you so much in advance.

David Widmann (talk) 10:13, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

David, here on wikipedia we have a number of requirements for notability the dictates whether something should be included in Wikipedia. You can find the general outline here: WP:GNG and, specifically, the part relevant to your company here: WP:NCOMPANY.
Additionally, we have two policies that you may wish to read over, WP:COI and WP:NPOV. COI is about having a conflict of interest in the article which would make it difficult to retain a Neutral Point Of View. You, as the business director of the company should not be creating and editing the article as you have a COI. If the company is notable, don't worry, someone else will come along and make it sooner or later. I would suggest going over to Wikipedia:Requested articles and requesting that an article on Becoacht is created. That way someone independant to your company can work on the article. Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 10:21, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi Cabe,

thank you very much for your answer and i totally understand that. But if you delete the article it will be still possible to write one (from another person) in the future and we will not like be baned from wiki now ?

David Widmann (talk) 10:28, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi David, no problem. You would not be banned from Wikipedia simply for creating the article. Best thing to do is wait for someone independant from you to create the article. One day you might search becoacht and discover that is exactly what has happened. As your company grows and receives independant reliable source coverage it will likely pop up here by itself. Like I say, swing by WP:RA if you wish to put in a request that someone creates an article sooner rather than later but, unfortunately, I think you might find that it won't happen just yet due to WP:NCOMPANY, at least for now anyway. Hi there, the references you have added are the staff pages at the university Mr Singh works at. That is nothing like enough for notability in Wikipedia's sense, which needs "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject", that is to say not entries in lists or things that he has written, but something substantial written about him by other people. See WP:ANS for more explanation of what that means. Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 14:02, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

COI Notice - Folly Wildlife Rescue

Hi I see that you have put a COI notice on the Folly Wildlife Rescue Trust article. I do indeed have a connection with the trust, but believe I have worded the article in a factual and neutral manner. I am new to Wikipedia so would be grateful for some advice on this as I am unsure what I have written that could be deemed biased. I have removed the part where I mention that the Trust has won local community awards as I can only assume this might be the reason? Thank you in advance. Nunnsofunky (talk) 09:14, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi there, I added the COI notice because you have a connection with the trust. As the primary article writer thus far it doesn't matter how neutral you attempt to write you will still have a COI. The tag will allow someone who is unaffiliated to come along at some point in the future and work/expand on the article. At which point the tag can be removed. For a living person, such as Coşkun Yılmaz, we must make sure we also meet WP:BLP guidelines. Currently, I don't believe Mr Yılmaz meets the notability requirements which is why I have tagged the page for speedy deletion. Speedy deletion of BriefCam

Hi - The page BriefCam has been deleted. I would respectfully request that this page be restored for the following reasons:

  1. Many other comparable companies in this industry have Wikipedia entries. http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Category:Commercial_computer_vision_systems
  2. The BriefCam company employs a technology that is exclusive to it. Other companies do not have such technologies, yet they are listed.

Any help or guidelines that you can offer so that the page will meet Wikipedia standards will be gratefully accepted. Sincerely, Rachelneim (Rachelneim (talk) 12:04, 13 February 2013 (UTC)).

Hi there Rachel, I'm going to link a few wikipedia policies and thoughts to explain why your page was deleted. The first is WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS: It says that just because something else exists on wikipedia, doesn't mean that this should.
The next is WP:NCOMPANY which details the requirements for a company to be notable. The long-and-sort-of-it is that there must be independant and reliable third party sources about the company. See WP:V, WP:RS and WP:N for more details.
Thirdly, you come across that you may be involved with BriefCam. Here on Wikipedia we call that a conflict of interest and it's usually best not to create it yourself. If the company is notable then usually someone will come along and create the article for you.
You can head over to Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation and see if you can ellicit help from someone impartial to create the article. Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 13:15, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

DRN

The nub of the issue on the article has revolved around WP:WEIGHT. Gaba p insists that WP:WEIGHT is achieved by having a WP:RS for a fact. This means anything he claims anything he can source he must be allowed to include. He is now claiming that DRN has endorsed this position.

Is this what you've stated? Wee Curry Monster talk 16:56, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

I have stated nothing either way on the dispute. I have replied in the DRN itself Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 18:08, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
Unfortunately your colleague Noleander has chosen to state that Gaba p is right and at the same time accused me of trying to censor mention of China. [6] Was there something unclear in my opening statement? I fear that DRN has only made things worse by encouraging an editor that is abrasive and disruptive, its given him more ammunition to be disruptive. Wee Curry Monster talk 08:06, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
I'm sorry, that statement is simply not true. The only mention of censorship is in the following: Once an editor has found a reliable source that says the 2nd most powerful nation on earth has taken a side in the Falk dispute, then of course it should go into the article. Excluding it is a form of censorship.. That is directed at no one and simply a statement of fact. The point of a DRN isn't to rule on which side is correct but to try mediate a discussion between parties. The reason I asked for the 200 word statement of the issue at hand is because every single involved editor statement includes comments directed at other parties. DRN is for content not conduct. Simply state the content issue in your own words and leave the other editors out of it. That will allow us to focus on the issue and not "He said x, he did y, don't do z" etc. Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 08:33, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
I think you missed it. [7] Noleander states here that my interpretation of WP:WEIGHT is incorrect, my statement was [8] that WP:WEIGHT requires us to ensure that coverage in an article reflects the weight and range of opinions in the literature and that coverage in the media alone did not justify inclusion. Gaba p claims that anything he can source justifies inclusion, so he will add a lot of material stating Argentine support in a mannder that is completely disproportionate. Was my opening statement unclear [9] that I didn't oppose mention of China? Wee Curry Monster talk 08:55, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
BTW I will restrict my comments in future to content, you have my word on that. Wee Curry Monster talk 08:57, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Thank you, I get the feeling there is a bit of sour blood between the parties in this discussion and, by focusing on the content we can resolve it with much less wikidrama.
Regarding WP:WEIGHT, my interpretation is that (and I'm quoting from the policy) each article or other page in the mainspace fairly represents all significant viewpoints that have been published by reliable sources, in proportion to the prominence of each viewpoint in the published, reliable sources (bolding mine). What this means is that if X happens and A,B,C,D,E,F all support X then they all get a mention. If a controversial previous supporter (G) of Y flips and now supports X and this results in a lot more media attention than A-F then, it's fair to expect that G will more coverage on the wikipedia article about X than A-F. Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 09:18, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Your understanding doesn't differ from mine, the one Noleander states was incorrect. As regards "sour blood", very much one sided as I adopt the WP:DGAF philosophy but if you have someone dogging your every edit with constant personal attacks, you eventually snap back. Its a natural human reaction. I'll focus on content, lets see where it goes. Wee Curry Monster talk 09:49, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Cabe6403: I've left my statement over at DRN. Please note how Wee refuses to simply talk about the matter raised at the noticeboard (two very short and precise issues: China & Commonwealth) and instead chooses to comment on the whole section being discussed at the talk page. Could you ask him to restrict to the issue at hand please? I'm not going to comment on Wee's constant WP:PAs and disruptive editing, it's not the place and anyone can rapidly get an idea of it from the talk page. Regards. Gaba p (talk) 13:14, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Regarding this close: it's a somewhat confused situation, not helped by at least one of the disputees not being native English speakers, but the root cause here is not the image's existence on Commons (which is indeed not our problem) but the use of said image on articles here (which is our problem). As such I reckon this is a legitimate dispute. Care to reconsider your close? Cheers. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) (talk) 14:24, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

Hmmm, in that case it might be best to simply submit another DRN request with a bit more details on what the issue was. If yourself or the original filing editor would like some assistance with the issue I'd be happy to submit it myself if you/they explain the situation to me on my talk page. Hi. It would be great if you could provide some assistance, although I am of the opinion that reopening the case is definitely out of question. (A DRN about my conduct on Commons is not the way.) You can assist by participating in User talk:Codename Lisa § Windows 1.0 logo discussion and providing input if needed. We can only hope that he or she sees reason. Userboxes

You caused considerable co-lateral damage when you marked your userboxes for deletion: you sent a number of entirely innocent user pages to CSD. If you are doing the same again, you must put the speedy tag inside a <noinclude> section. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 14:58, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

Cripes, I never even thought of that. Thanks for the heads up for the future and apologies to anyone I have inconvenienced. Every day's a school day. Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 17:35, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

Hey. Thank you for showing interest in joining the clerking team. I leave you this message to let you know that we are not ignoring you, and that we will update you with any decision we reach regarding your request. Regards. — ΛΧΣ21 21:11, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

Great, thanks for the update. Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 21:17, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

NATASHA DUARTE

I know you want to delete my page I am puting up for my daughter. She is a signed musician. I am only trying help her. Could you please put up a page for her if mine is not good enough, or show me where to go to put up a page for her. I dont want her URL to be taken by another Natasha Duarte — Preceding unsigned comment added by Natashaduarte (talkcontribs) 13:43, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi there, there's a few issues at hand here so I will try address them all for you. The first one is I suggest you create another username for yourself as User:Natashaduarte is an missleading username as it is for another living person other than yourself. You may find that the User:Natashaduarte account is blocked without warning due to this.
Secondly, we try to adhere to a number of policies here on Wikipedia, some such as conflict of interest which is where you have a personal connection to the article subject or topic, in this case since you are the mother of the subject you would have a COI and we'd strongly discourage writing about your daughter as you will find it difficult to maintain a neutral point of view.
Thirdly, wikipedia is not for promoting people, the tone of the article you wrote is very promotional and full of marketing hyperbole which is innapropriate for an encylopedia.
Finally, notability. For your daughter to warrent inclusion in wikipedia there has to be an assertion of notability backed up by verifiable and reliable third party sources. If you have a read of WP:MUSICBIO you'll see the list of criteria that have to be met.
What I would recommend is that you do not create your own daughters article, if she becomes notable then someone will come along and create the article for you. There is no such thing on Wikipedia as a URL being "taken by another" person as all pages can be moved, renamed etc. It's also not the place for creating a profile for yourself and claiming the URL as your own. If you have any questions please ask. Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 14:01, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Paulhus15 (talk) 13:55, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
You are very welcome :) Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 14:02, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Just a heads up, I've declined the speedy tag on this as there are claims of releasing records by notable musicians. While this isn't enough in itself to keep the article long term, I think it's enough to make a full discussion about whether these claims are verifiable via AfD. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:18, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

No problem, thanks for the heads up. Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 14:19, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

NATASHA DUARTE - CRITERIA SHE MEETS

1. HER SINGLE WAN NO. 14 ON THE AUSTRALIAN ARIA CHARTS

Source?

2. SHE HAS BE INTERVIEWED ON TV SHOWS I.E. THE TODAY SHOW BY RICHARD WILKINS, ABC STUDIO 3, WB FOR KIDS

Source?

3. SHE WAS INVITED TO PLAY AT MUSIC MATTERS IN SINGAPORE

Invited to, has not played?

4. SHE HAS 3 SINGLES ON ROTATION IN SHOPPING CENTRES

This is not an indication of notability

5. SHE IS SIGNED TO AN INDIE LABEL - EMPIRE RECORDS

There is no inherited notability simply because she is signed to a larger label. She needs to have released "Two or more" on a major (or important indie) to meet this one.

6. SHE HAS 46000 FANS ON FACEBOOK

Not being on fire has more than 1.5 million fans on facebook, unfortunately it doesn't matter as facebook isn't a reliable source.

7. SHE HAS AN ALBUM TO BE RELEASED NEXT MONTH

See WP:UPANDCOMING

8. SHE IS ON A NATIONAL TOUR OF HIGH SCHOOLS

Source?

9. SHE IS THE AMBASSADOR OF THE ACMF, THE PATON OF KOOL SKOOLS AND PENRITH YOUNG CISTIZE OF THE YEAR

I'm not sure what these are, you'll need to source them with reliable sources (not first party i.e. related to the subject)

10 SHE HAS BEEN INTERVIEWED FOR THE DAILY TELEGRAPH, GIRLFRIEND MAGAZINE, DOLLY MAGAZINE, TOTAL GIRL MAGAZINE, TEEN MAGAZINE IN SINGAPORE

Source? You need to provide reliable third party sources for these claims

11 SHE HAS MANY VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE

Similar to facebook, that isn't an indication of notability

12 HER MANAGER IS GLENN WHEATLEY - JOHN FARNHAMS MANAGER

Again, no inherited notability.
It looks like, perhaps (don't take that as leave to recreate it just yet), she meets the guidelines for inclusion depending on if you can provide reliable, third party sources for the claims you make. Even still, it is discourage for yourself to create the article and I still highly suggest you make a new username per WP:REALNAME as I mentioned yesterday. Finally, head on over to Articles for Creation and the team over there will review your suggested article, make changes etc.
One last thing, you can sign your posts by placing four tildes ~~~~ to let people know who posted. You can also click the "Edit" button to respond to a user in a section rather than create a whole new section every time. Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 10:29, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

SORRY I AM NOT SURE HOW ALL THIS WORKS SO I WILL JUST HOPE THAT YOUR ADMIN TEAM CAN DELETE THE PAGE IN ITS ENTIRETY AND I WILL LET MY DAUGHTER KNOW THAT I CANNOT CREATE A PAGE FOR HER. I DONT THINK ITS A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE A WIKI PAGE ANYHOW. NO NEED TO CREATE A NEW USER ID AS NATASHADUARTE IS BLOCKED NOW AND I WON'TBE USING ANY OTHER. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE AND HERES HOPING ALL CONTENT I ENTERED OR THE PAGE CAN BE DELETED. I WONT GET YOU THE INFBUT GOOGLE NATASHA DUARTE AND YOU WILL SEE ALL THE NEWSPAPERS, ETC. ALSO SHE WAS ON SONY'S DIVA 5 ALBUM. NATASHA ALSO WON THE INTERNATIONAL SONGWRITING COMPETITION, ISC, NASHVILLE - TEEN SECTION. 124.184.21.250 (talk) 10:51, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

NATASHA DUARTE - PLEASE DELETE PAGE IN ITS ENTIRETY ASAP

PLEASE DELETE THE PAGE OF NATASHA DUARTE ASAP SO WHEN PEOPLE ARE GOOGLING HER THE PAGE DOES NOT COME UP. ITS EMBARRASSING HAVING THE : THIS PAGE IS DELETED BECAUSE OF WHATEVER. I DO APPRECIATE IT AND WILL NOT PUT A PAGE UP ABOUT HER. I JUST DONT KNOW HOW DELTA GOODREM, SELENA GOMEZ HAVE BIOGRAPIES BUT I CANT. PLEASE DELETE ASAP IN ITS ENTIRETY.Natashaduarte (talk) 09:44, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi Natasha, no need to shout. Just to answer your question about why Selena Gomez etc have articles, they meet WP:MUSICBIO as I explained in my post to you above, your daughter does not meet these requirements. Regarding complete removal of the page history, that's not something I have the power to do, very few people on Wikipedia have that ability and it will be up to them whether or not to grant a request. I will look into it for you Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 09:52, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
There is no article on Natasha Duarte that has been ever been deleted...? GiantSnowman 09:59, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
Oh wait, you mean NATASHA DUARTE - either way I'm not an oversighter so not sure I'll be able to be much help I'm afraid. GiantSnowman 10:01, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
Yes, that's the one. Is this something the oversighters would consider or should I approach them directly? I went to an active admin simply for a quick response. Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 10:02, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
I've honestly never encountered a request for deletion record to itself be deleted, doubt it will be done but no harm in asking an Oversighter. Potentially e-mail them? GiantSnowman 10:06, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
I've never come across it either. Thanks for the help, I'll give the oversight team an email about it. Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 10:07, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
No problems, let me know if you need any further help. GiantSnowman 10:10, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
User:Natashaduarte, I have contacted the oversight team on your behalf who will consider the request. Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 10:13, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
Hi there, I have heard back from the Oversight team and they have declined to remove the deletion log. The Oversight facility is, reserved for cases where the material in question containts libelous or personally-identifying information. Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 14:23, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
