Managing a conflict of interest

Hello, CTCJourneaux. I haven't added any promotional material to Wikipedia. This re-edit of your deletion adds a world-renowned academic to the list of Notable Gibraltarians. If the appropriateness of Professor Tilbury's inclusion was ever in question, which given the global recognition of her work seems unlikely, her high profile work at COP26 must quash that. I would be grateful if you will make clear the difference between promotion and fact please in this context as I am in the process of updating research etc contributions by Prof Tilbury to a number of pagesCTCJourneaux (talk) 15:48, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

100% of your editing on Wikipedia has been to add mentions and promotions of this person. Why is that? Are you associated with them in some fashion? MrOllie (talk) 15:56, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have done quite a bit of editing over the years but took a break, lost my account details, and set up a new account so I could start again. Hence the 100% to add mentions of this person. The edits are factual and either enhance the page with new information; add relevant but missing citations or correct errors. I guess adding her to Notable Gibraltarians could be interpreted as promotion but it is also a fact. Her academic pedigree has a global recognition. Although I met Prof Tilbury some years ago, and undertook some work for her whilst she was Vice Chancellor, I would not say I have an association with her. I have not encountered this issue before. Is it not permitted for me to know any of the people I focus on for edits?CTCJourneaux (talk) 16:18, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds like a WP:COI to me. Please read links in the above section. You should not be adding material about Tilbury directly to articles, please use talk pages from now on instead as outlined in the COI guidelines. - MrOllie (talk) 16:45, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have read through this again, and am very familiar with the terms detailed. Given that I do not have a relationship with this person that could be classed as family, friend, client, employer, or financial what is my COI? This matters to me because I have enjoyed adding contributions to Wikipedia over the years, without deletion or hindrance. Knowing what else constitutes a COI outside of Wikipedia terms will be useful.CTCJourneaux (talk) 17:52, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
