If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:CDSsoftware, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Dark Sun (talk) 20:54, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion

[edit]

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because all we are trying to do is create a landing page for EPD that is different from other meanings of EPD. Content that is not self promotional is being worked on and will be added over the next few weeks. CDSsoftware (talk) 20:58, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion

[edit]

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because it is very similar to the opening lines of the page for Mentor Graphics and other such EDA companies CDSsoftware (talk) 21:02, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The page was removed in spite of the above clarifications and example of at least one page that has un ambiguous self promotion in the same area.

You should read WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS. 69.181.253.230 (talk) 21:43, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

So its the luck of the draw getting someone imposing guidelines while others who did not get noticed or got another reviewer who is less aware of the guidelines - that's ok? Is that really how these guidelines may or may not be followed in practice? Would it not be more of a standard , if a similar "violation" is pointed out, that the same reviewer takes it upon himself to address all such issues so as to keep the entire subject/ topic more in line with the guidelines ?

This is a volunteer effort. Nobody can be forced to make edits they don't want to. You are free to learn more about the guidelines and edit articles yourself to make them conform to said guidelines. 69.181.253.230 (talk) 22:32, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I understand about it being a volunteer effort and that is why I thought that when an exception was pointed out that it would result in the new page in question not being deleted, as the volunteer reviewer would understand that similar violations of guidelines have previously been accepted ( considering that the volunteer reviewer did not have the time to fix or delete all of the other pages that have previously been accepted in spite of guideline violations, that they would at-least maintain a similar standard for all, rather than impose restrictions only on new content that is similar). Maybe the volunteer reviewer could take the time to post on the page pointed out ( and I can give you a list of several similar pages that do not meet the guidelines that you refer me to ) that they do not meet guidelines and would be up for deletion unless violations are corrected?

The request was not about forcing anyone to make edits they don't want to. It was about a non uniform and rather selective application of guidelines in spite of being made aware of similar pages that have debatable claims ( the page we created had only facts). Also it was requesting the volunteer reviewer, who chose to delete the page on the basis of supposed guideline non compliance, to review their decision in view of how the guidelines have previously been applied to similar pages in the same industry.CDSsoftware (talk) 22:51, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest and username problems

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that the username you have chosen, "CDSsoftware", seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of something other than yourself. Please note that you may not edit on behalf of a company, group, institution, product, or website which relates to the entity in question, and Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are promotional or accounts that are shared. If you are willing to use a personal account, please take a moment to create a new account or request a username change that represents only yourself as an individual. You should also read our Conflict of interest guideline and Plain and simple conflict of interest guide, and remember that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. 69.181.253.230 (talk) 21:12, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I see you want to learn to edit here well

[edit]

It's often the case that one;s first article has major problems. It's like learning to drive. Editing here doesn't come naturally. This essay will give you some background help. PLease do change your username, though. This one will get you blocked. You weren't to know at the time, so let the water flow under the bridge. Fiddle Faddle 23:14, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, your edit to Comparison of EDA software overwrote another entry. Please do not do that. If you have an entry to add please add it as its own entry. I've reverted your change. The work is not lost. You can retrieve it form the history to add as an entry of its own if you wish. I have not done so. Fiddle Faddle 23:20, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, can you point me to how a new entry is to be made after retrieving what was removed? I previously understood that Wikipedia edits were permitted. Will a new entry that lists facts similar to other posts on the page be treated in a similar fashion? You can see what you reverted and give me your best guess ( I gather that there are a some volunteer reviewers who sometimes arbitrarily apply the guidelines so I would go by your best guess ). Asking your favor as I would rather not spend the time to make the new post only to find that it is acceptable for some self promotional other entries, but not my factual posts as I have just found out for the page I posted. Thanks.CDSsoftware (talk) 23:42, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The line you added looks as good as any other, so you can use the History tab, and click on the version before my reversion. Don;t RESTORE it, just click on it. If you then edit it WITHOUT SAVING, and copy your line to your clipboard, you can then click the ARTICLE tab, edit the correct section and paste it in in the right place. BUT I suggest you wait until you have changed username. Folk get very upset with commercial style usernames. In fact, since it is your software I will make the edit myself, and let others judge if my work is valid. My strong advice is to enjoy Wikipedia but to stay well away from your own real life stuff. Fiddle Faddle 23:53, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, no. Too many things to put right. Sort the new user ID out and you do the edits. The table syntax is arcane, so use the PREVIEW button before you save it. Sorry, I can't cope with it myself tonight, but there is no rush on Wikipedia. Besides, it will be a great learning experience for you. Sorry I said I;d do it and then backed out.
By the way, if you get stuck just put {{helpme}} on your talk page with your request and as if by magic someone will come and help you Fiddle Faddle 23:59, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to pass. I made edits to another page that you might also wish to " revert" qas it also was done in a similar fashion as the EDA page. https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/EPD. I think that will cover all of the edits I attempted to make. Thanks for your time and patience.CDSsoftware (talk) 00:22, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That one didn't overwrite something already there, so I am not worried, at least from that perspective. IT was the overwriting that caused me concerns. Fiddle Faddle 00:46, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
