I am not leaving, don't worry. Its just that for the forseable future the best internet I have is slow wify on a 5-year-old palm pilot; which, needless to say, is excruciating. Its good to see that I am not completely background noise here on the pedia' though :) Oh, and you will have to tag this post with {unsigned|icewedge} because I can not for the life of me find tildes on this interface. So, for now, goodbye. :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by icewedge (talk • contribs)
Username you created
Hi there,
I appreciate your work at WP:ACC, but you just created a username which I don't think is suitable:
User:Sallysinlovewithbenspinksnake - translates to Sally's in love with ben's pink snake. That username is not appropriate as per policy and I don't think you should have created it.

adding pictures
Hi Ryan~
if you're busy no worries...I'm sure I'll fig. it out somehow. I tried to add images and I want to add a book cover and description as I see on "The Lovely Bones" page (but for "The Girl With the Crooked Nose". So far no luck in doing so...:-(
thx.BArts --BenderArts (talk) 12:12, 2 June 2008 (UTC)—Preceding unsigned comment added by BenderArts (talk • contribs) 22:38, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
still can't add pics
I get a message saying:
"Permission error From Wikipedia Jump to: navigation, search The action you have requested is limited to users in one of the groups Autoconfirmed users, Sysops.
Return to Main Page"
I have full permission to use these images from their creator. I also want to add a book cover and full description as I see on the page for "The Lovely Bones"
I have a feeling I may need more help and I don't want to bother the wrong person so if I'm taking up too much time just let me know where to go:-)
thx! --BenderArts (talk) 12:11, 2 June 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by BenderArts (talk • contribs) 00:22, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello yet again. I regretfully inform you that the bot we were using to update the user status at Wikipedia:Highly Active Users, SoxBot V, was blocked for its constant updating. With this bot out of operation, a patch is in the works. Until that patch is reviewed and accepted by the developers, some options have been presented to use as workarounds: 1) Qui monobook (not available in Internet Explorer); 2) User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate; 3) Manually updating User:StatusBot/Status/USERNAME; or 4) Not worry about it and wait for the patch to go through, which hopefully won't take long. If you have another method, you can use that, too. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Useight (talk) 22:25, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Wow that's kinda harsh, it was blocked for making too many edits? Surely cluebot has accumulated many more? ——Ryan | t • c 22:53, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed you returned some info to the infobox of the above article. The source given for Sampson's DOB does not include this info, just his age. As per the biog. rulings, I don't think we can list his DOB until a source (let alone a reliable one!) is found. I'm removing it for now, if you find a source please reinsert it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LHMike (talk • contribs) 23:12, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

I think you must be mistaken. I myself am actively using Huggle, but I don't have rollback (at least, not to my knowledge). Gail Wilson (talk) 18:49, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Adding books to Wikipedia pages
Hello again Ryan,
Thanks for all your help. I have added Frank Bender's image with permission to his page and now want to add the book cover and info. for "The Girl With the Crooked Nose" ISBN-10: 140006533X ISBN-13: 978-1400065332. He has partial copyright and the book is about him. Can I add the book to his page? If so where should I start?
Thx. so much! Vanessa Bender BenderArts (talk) 01:20, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

I do not see what was so controversial about my reverts. I was not using the "rollback" function at all, the IP editor in question had not made any recent constructive edits, but only made edits complaining about the administration of the school, the edits were blatantly NPOV, and I left a message on the IP talk page stating that the edit had been reverted due to POV concerns. I respect your opinion that they were "unjust", but I actually think that a couple of "Information" messages were on the pretty mild end of the scale. I'll take your comments under advisement in good faith, and if there's anything else you think I should have done I'll be happy to consider it for the future. Lankiveil (speak to me) 12:26, 10 June 2008 (UTC).
- You were using Huggle which uses the Rollback feature to revert edits. You do not use rollback to revert NPOV violations. Secondly, the first warning you left on the users' talk page didn't mention anything to do with the NPOV policy. You left them a standard vandalism template (using Huggle). Unless Wikipedia polices have taken a completely radical re-write recently, I don't recall NPOV being classed as vandalism ——Ryan | t • c 12:36, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- WP:ROLLBACK itself states that "Rollback must only be used to undo edits that are blatantly nonproductive". I concede that on reflection the edits in question appear to be borderline, but given the edits in question, I still think it was justifiable. There was no content that could reasonably be salvaged from the fragment, and it was an unsourced and essentially anonymous criticism of a real-world entity that could conceivably have had their reputation damaged by the edit. Hence, I was of the opinion that the edit was "blatantly nonproductive", especially considering it was re-done after being reverted. I will also concede that I should have used the "NPOV" message first time around, and I will endeavour to be more careful on this point in the future. However, I still think that characterising it was "unjust" is a bit unnecessarily emotive - "unjust" would have been slapping a final warning template or reporting them straight to AIV. I like to think I'm not that heavy handed =) Lankiveil (speak to me) 12:48, 10 June 2008 (UTC).
- Further to that, I actually looked closely at the Huggle specs and it does indeed use Rollback. I figured it was using a pseudo-revert rollback feature like Twinkle does. So, I'll give you that too. Learn something every day! =). Lankiveil (speak to me) 12:55, 10 June 2008 (UTC).
- No problems, and no hard feelings here. Happy editing! Lankiveil (speak to me) 13:07, 10 June 2008 (UTC).

Sky Angel recent edit
Good afternoon, Ryan
I wanted to delete some information that is no longer relevant to Sky Angel, including the response from Kathleen Johnson. Ms. Johnson is no longer with Sky Angel, and her response does not reflect the company's position.

- Ehh, which part of this edit constitutes vandalism?. Might be an idea to read through WP:VAND to brush up on your definition of vandalism as your edition was a lot more unconstructive. If you continue to make inappropriate warnings, I will see to it that your access rights to Twinkle or any other automated wikipedia tool are revoked immediately. "Responsibility for edits rests with the owner of the account with which they are made. "Use of an automated tool" is not an excuse." I'm okay with editing Wikipedia articles (as I've had previous experience with blogs and all), the most help I really need is to set up my userpage as it's extremely messy.
So, I'm new to the concept of Adopt-A-User (and Wikipedia of course), is there a special infobox or message I can put on my userpage to say that I've been adopted?
Oh, and what would you recommend I put my userboxes in on my userpage?

Dispute with another administrator
I am contacting you about a dispute I am having with another administrators.
Bobak's block of the Minnesota Law school page constitutes an abuse of administrator privileges. I have added edits about staff changes in the university and he continually removes them. The personal changes at the CPDC and the general opinion of Mondale Hall in the legal community are valid items to include in Wikipedia and do not constitute vandalism. Both items are more relevant than the fact that a poker champion earned a j.d from the school. Items such as these are common throughout Wikipedia. Wikipedia is information inclusive and he is attempting to exclude information he does not like.
Among the people who look at school pages are prospective students, who would find this information useful. It is telling that no other person has removed this information but Bobak(an alum of the university). It is telling that no other administrator on the site felt that these edits constituted vandalism. Bobak is abusing his privileges as an administrator. He had no right to block this page.
Finally on a personal note he insists on posting my home building on the internet. I do not feel this is appropriate behavior from an administrator and I am asking you to look into the matter both with regards to whether my disputed edits are appropriate for wikipedia and to tell him to desist with posting my home address. In spite of his behavior, I have refrained from posting his home and work contact information, he should do the same with me.
If you are not able to handle this matter could you please direct me to the appropriate person. Thank You —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.231.197.118 (talk) 00:10, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- I don't know why you're contacting me about this, I'm not an admin, however I will give you my take on the issue. The material you persistently tried adding to the article (I'm assuming it was you, though your IPs are different) didn't constitute vandalism but it did violate the policies Bobak put forward WP:OR and WP:NOT#NEWS. You didn't provide any references for your additions so it merited a deletion straight away. Like I said, there's nothing I can do, but if you wish to take it further, try bringing it to the attention of the WP:ANB/I. On quick inspection, it looks as though Bobak violated the WP:3RR as an admin, he should know better ——Ryan | t • c 09:46, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- I see the individual is "forum shopping". The confusion I had is that this anon is using several different IP addresses and I only recently realized its all the same person. It appears to be someone associated with the law school (from my own experience as a lawyer and graduate, this is almost certainly a current or former student) who is angry about employment. As I said, that's fine --there are plenty of people (including myself) who were not impressed by the job placement services at the Law School, but this person seems to want to use Wikipedia as his/her own personal soapbox. I'm sorry you were pulled into this. --Bobak (talk) 18:39, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- I think the reason he contacted me was because I reverted some vandalism on the article that same day, perhaps he thought I was a figure of authority. Anyway, I'm not familiar with the article so I'll leave all that to you :P Regards ——Ryan | t • c 21:15, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm sorry you were pulled into this. --Bobak (talk) 18:39, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Sorry
I re-read my comment on the Days of Our Lives cast member page, and it did sound meaner than I wanted it to, so I apologize. This particular IP has been changing and changing this name to the WRONG spelling, and removing references and administrator warnings. I can't get them to stop. So, I changed the warning. Thank you. If you can offer any assistance, I would be VERY grateful. Rm994 (talk) 22:00, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- Your note here is far more appropriate than your previous one. Also, it might be an idea to bring it to the attention of the IP at fault by leaving them a message on their talk page. ——Ryan | t • c 22:10, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- I have tried that repeatedly. The IP changes everytime by a few numbers, so I do not think that they are recieving my messages. Someone has removed my civil comment, but I replaced it. Thanks for your help :) Rm994 (talk) 22:16, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- Well I haven't reviewed the article entirely but if the IP's edits constitute vandalism and they insist on making pointless edits, you can request that the page is temporarily protected which will prevent an IP from making any edits whatsoever. However, this is a last resort. Also, ensure you don't make 3 reverts on the same article within a 24 hour period otherwise you may be blocked. ——Ryan | t • c 22:20, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

IP Editor
Actually I'm not asking you to resolve a dispute, having tried to engage an IP editor only to be ignored and for that guy to embark upon an entirely illogical edit war and then to stalk me about wikipedia, I'm asking your advice. Justin talk 22:56, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- I suggest bringing it to the attention of the Administrators' Noticeboard. WP:AIV is for reporting persistent vandals not to resolve disputes and edit wars ——Ryan | t • c 22:58, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

- I understand that not all page blanking and removal of content is vandalism but you didn't offer an edit summary to explain your actions so a warning was given. For such large edits including removal of content, I recommend discussing it in article's talk page to gain a consensus beforehand. ——Ryan | t • c 20:24, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Ryan,
I see you removed the template at the WP:AN discussion. I was sure, based on your previous comments on that thread, that you were kidding (being intentionally overdramatic, to make the point that nothing bad had happened before) with the wording of the template; now I'm mortified to think that you might not have been joking, and my continuing (I thought) your joke was seen as a serious criticism. I certainly didn't mean to offend, and although I think such a notice isn't necessary, I would never have worded my comments that way if I thought it would cause offense. Sorry about that, I'll be more careful next time. --barneca (talk) 20:59, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Haha no offence taken whatsoever. I created the template with the intention of adding it to the config page because I thought that's what everyone seemed to be proposing, however, your comment pretty much opened my eyes to the dangers of adding such a template. Jane Addams Help
Hi Ryan, Thank you for your comments. I am brand new and most of the help pages do not make too much sense. I keep reading and studying to figure out by trial and error.
Shep had replied to my first comment about the Jane Addams Entry--maybe on my talk page?? He somehow changed the name for me. I had tried to do that , but it would not accept the change. In his comments he said for more help to leave a message on his help page. I tried, but could not figure out how to make the "CLICK HERE" work. It just would not move off the page and I did not know whether I should Edit the page in order to leave a message or not.
About the info box, On the school project page, and on the "Talk: Jane Addams Business Careers Center" page when you read about the entry, the talk page indicated that the page for Jane Addams BCC needs an infobox. It is a box along the right side of the page that summarizes important information.
I put one in by looking at other schools. If you look at the entry for Jane Addams, you will notice that text is on top of other text. Not sure why or how--it is just there on top of some of the text.
I wanted to add the picture to see if that would help fix the page. I also wanted to find out about how to remove, clean-up and the comment that the information may not be reliable.
I have added references.Teala1 (talk) 22:47, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ahh you wanted to leave a message on this user's page. I think that's the right guy, he left you a welcome message on your talk page. I've edited the Jane Addams Business Careers Center talk page to adjust the talk header ([1]). The article doesn't need an infobox anymore as someone has added it. I've looked at the article, there doesn't seem to be any overlapping text, the page seems to render perfectly so I'm not sure what you mean about that. To upload an image click here and follow the instructions. They're pretty self explanatory. As for the clean up and non notable tags at the top of the page. They're there because someone added the following code to the article:
{{Cleanup-school|date=March 2008}} {{Notability|date=October 2007}}
If you're sure the article has been appropriately 'cleaned up' and that it does meet the general notability guidelines then you're welcome to remove the tags. If you require further assistance, feel free to message me again. Regards ——Ryan | t • c 23:01, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
Thank you Ryan, you have helped quite a bit. I appreciate your efforts. I've read the notability rules and I believe that JABCC falls under the guidelines and as it is now the information is documented and pretty thorough compared to what had been there in October of 07 and March of 08 so I removed the notability comment. I did not remove the clean up because I am not sure if it might still need cleaned up. Thank you again, Teala1 (talk) 00:29, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Permission error
I am trying to add an image (I own copyright) to: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/E._R._Ward_Neale. but find myself frustrated by the lack of clarity on this procedure! The contact wikipedia with file to upload doesn't work (The following message to <photosubmissionwikimedia.org> was undeliverable. The reason for the problem:5.1.1 - Bad destination email address 'invalid domain ), and everything else runs in complicated loops that lead nowhere. I have read all the directions, logged in and created an account but still get "permission error" notices. I would be grateful if someone can direct me (avmorgan@uwaterloo.ca) to a SIMPLE method of uploading this image. Many thanks to whomever replies! ALANV007 (talk) 16:04, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
- To upload an image to wikipedia, your account must be 4 days old and you must have accumulated 10 edits for your profile to be migrated to the auto confirmed category. This is a security measure to prevent the misuse of tools. ——Ryan • (talk) 16:09, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
Adoptee Response
Yeah, I'll definitely take you up on that offer. The only other candidate I found was some nutty girl named Bella Swan. Thank God I wasn't adopted by her. I think she was an occult member or something. I'm pretty good at writing, but I'm clueless when it comes to anything else. By the way, could you check out the Asterix page I worked on, and see if my edit merited the article being rated as a "start" instead of a "stub"? Is Asterix well known in England, because absolutely no one knows aobut it in America. Funny picture, by the way. I have a deep appreciation of satire.ISmellDonuts (talk) 03:06, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- I've improved the article slightly, I've never heard of this video game before so it's all new to me. You can check out what I've done in the article's history. It is now definitely not a stub so I've reassessed the article promoting it to a start-class. The only thing I can suggest for it to be rated as a b-class is to find some more references. You'll see I've tagged the article. I've added two myself but because I'm unfamiliar with the game, I can't really help in that department. ——RyanLupin • (talk) 10:58, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Query
Do you know where I would look to find instructions for uploading an image. My dad owns a computer consulting company, and he is able to provide me with a hypercam, which should allow me to take some nice screenshots of the game in question. That might help promote it to B-class as well, especially since there was a request posted for a screenshot.—Preceding unsigned comment added by ISmellDonuts (talk • contribs)
- Firstly, you'll need to become familiar with WP:IUP as you'll soon learn that only a small minority of images will be accepted on wikipedia die to copyright implications. But assuming the images you wish to upload pass these hurdles then all you need to do is click here and follow the on-screen instructions. Because you want to upload screencaps, be sure to be as detailed as possible in the description page. If you require more help, leave me a message ——RyanLupin • (talk) 14:00, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Do images uploaded and placed on your userpage have to meet the copyright requirements as well? Also, I noticed that there's a tab on the toolbar for signing your messages in case your keyboard doesn't have the tilde character. Is there a tab for that little vertical line thingy too? (don't remember what it's called, but I remember it from sentence diagramming in elementary school.) ISmellDonuts (talk) 14:36, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yes copyright restrictions still apply to images on your userpage (click). As for the shortcut key, you're referring to the | character, right? Whenever you're making an edit, if you scroll down slightly, below the submit button, you'll discover a whole array of unicode that you can use. The | is right at the top. I recognise your frustration at not having it on your keyboard, my laptop doesn't either! ——RyanLupin • (talk) 14:45, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Your edits to Banham
No.
The person in question is, in my opinion a mentally disturbed young man. He is absolutely convinced that the auction took place, something I have verified is false with both the resident of the building in question and the owner of the contents of that building. (Not the same person ; I would know of this event anyway). No such auction took place or has ever taken place, no items have ever been auctioned. The owners of the building have never owned the painting referred to.
He claims it got "wide publicity" ; if you believe that to be true, try to find any of it, anywhere, in any of the archives of the local papers. I've tried ; it simply does not exist.
If you wish to contact the auctioneers I can guarantee this refers to a different "Old Rectory" (there are umpteen of such) owned by someone else entirely. (There are a lot of similar named villages : Barnham, Bramham etc. here with Old Rectories).
The "clue", which the poster continually ignored, is the information that it refers to the "biggest auction in Suffolk". Banham is in Norfolk.
The poster lives in a fantasy world in my opinion and is in a state where he believes he is beyond error. The auction claim, which has been repeated elsewhere (believed to emanate from the same four or five complainants who admitted some of their collusion) is simply "wrong". It is factually inaccurate. It did not happen. BullMonkey still refuses to accept this. He has it fixed in his head as an absolute fact.
It says much for the accuracy of "BullMonkey" that he continues to maintain this fact in the teeth of evidence. It is likely to be because he is unable to differentiate between fact and reality.
Most of the wild claims were immediately rejected, the remainder did not survive further examination. Despite what the poster says there was no "notorious Banham Marshalls College" ; despite a desperate four year investigation the Police found virtually nothing. It refers to a different school on a different site (albeit owned by the same people, but with virtually entirely different staff).
At the time (76-84 ish) the incidents referred to occurred (they are very loosely based on real events but absurdly exaggerated ; I know, I was there) "Banham Marshalls College" was a collection of fields.
This is easily verifiable via actual records - the building inspector records for example.
The opinion of the local paper is not "fact" ; indeed in its headline "Shame of Banham Marshalls Teachers" it managed to make two factual errors in a five word sentence (and one error of opinion ; they are pissed off) ; the only word which is accurate is "of".
The "Old Rectory School" did not take "vulnerable children" ; it took the difficult end of children with severe behavioural disorders ; effectively proto-criminals. Banham Marshalls College had a significantly different intake in both type and difficulty.
Finally, there are pending court cases on this topic which involve who I believe the poster to be (but obviously I do not know).
(Apologies if I have misused the talk pages)

- You have to note that I don't live in the area, I have no access to your local papers therefore I have no idea whether you or BullMonkey are correct. BullMonkey came to me for help because he was being treated in an uncivil manner by you and viewing the page history, I can agree him. You don't revert someone else's because you think they're 'ignorant' or 'inaccurate,' it's morally degrading. If you think something is unworthy of inclusion, you state why you're removing it or you discuss it on the article's talk page. BullMoney clearly stated a source for the information he was adding, however, you on the other hand offered no reason for removing it. That is why a 4th editor has seen it upon themselves to revert your change yet again. Clearly you're not editing the article from a neutral perspective, please read Conflict of interest before you think about changing anything else. Thanks ——RyanLupin • (talk) 22:01, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

What is a tag, and why is it so important? —Preceding unsigned comment added by ISmellDonuts (talk • contribs)
- You mean like the one I placed at the top of the article you're working on (Asterix & Obelix XXL)? If you click here, you'll find lots of templates. They're used simply to alert people who are viewing the page that work is required. Is that what you meant by a tag? ——RyanLupin • (talk) 21:29, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Admin coaching
Okay, the page is up, and I've put a few preliminary exercises for your consideration. I've posed the three biggie questions that come as standard with an RfA, and the info that you provide me with there will be helpful for a next stage. But I've posed a few actual examples of AIV-reported IPs and one user. Just tell me what block length you would consider giving them. There's also a 3RR report test there. From your contribs, ou've demonstrated policy knowledge; CSDs are good; you're civil; requests for block, protection are sound; and you vote at AfD with thorough policy knowledge. All the basics are confirmed, so it's just details that we're worrying about IMO. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 21:51, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Yet another question
I also did a complete overhaul of a another video game article. In the course of writing the plot summary, I wrote that the meaning of a certain character's line in the game was "unclear" (meaning unclear to players, not to the characters in the game). Would you deem this as acceptable, or should that line be removed from the plot summary? I thought that it might not belong there or something. ISmellDonuts (talk) 00:54, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- I think you should probaly either remove it or re-word slightly as it's currently your opinion on the game (WP:NPOV) :) ——RyanLupin • (talk) 00:57, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

A template for DYK
Hi Ryan - I've seen your remarkable contributions and I have a request to make - as per the discussion at WT:DYK#Solution for delays in DYK updates, can you please create a test model template based on Template:DYKbox (or suggest someone who can; I haven't understood the art of creating new types of templates yet) of three stages:
- Red - ATTENTION! 5 minutes or past time for next update
- Yellow - Alert - less than 1 hour to next update; complete addition of entries
- Green - Normal - inside 6 hours to next update
Of course, the template should be like {{Vandalism Information}} in that an editor can manually adjust the level. Vishnava talk 17:24, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

- I noticed you edited your userpage stating that you were seeking help as you were new. May I recommend the Adopt-a-User program where an experienced user will simply 'adopt' a new member and will then show them the ropes? This is a very effective method in training newer members. I currently have two users under my adoption but I'd happily adopt you too. Your comments here do not show an awareness of the issue raised in WP:MAD (admittedly, this is only an essay, but it raises a GFDL issue that is important for any administrators who engage extensively in closing AFDs). Notwithstanding that objection, I intend to cast my vote in

Free?
What do they mean in the image copyright tag when they ask about the free alternative? What's a free alternative, and how does it make an image "replaceable"? Thanks, ISmellDonuts (talk) 16:26, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
- Image policies are very tricky to grasp but you'll soon learn that only a small minority of images are accepted on wikipedia without being deleted. Free images are those that are eligible to inclusion on wikipedia. When they say replaceable images, they mean a free image that can replace a non-free image. I hope I explained that correctly for you ——RyanLupin • (talk) 21:14, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Your RfA
Hi Ryan. I would at this point suggest withdrawing. You have all the right abilities to be an administrator, but the copyvio incident (it's unfortunate that you forgot about that one) is causing problems. This, and the non-neutral editing (which doesn't bother most people, because you've already said you're not an article builder) is causing a problem. Therefore we'll start work on some DYKs to improve your article skills, as well as policies like WP:NPOV. I do think you'd be an asset to Wikipedia as an administrator, and think that you're ready (or I wouldn't have nommed you), but you need to prove your neutral editing skills for now. Admin coaching was another reason for some opposes, and I'm sorry for this. In my opinion, there is a significant difference between "how to pass an RfA" and brushing up on admin skills. Nevertheless, I'd still like to work with you in the mainspace areas, and I believe that we should concentrate almost solely on article development in this time. Perhaps allot an hour a day to Huggle, and then the rest of your daily Wikipedia dose on articles. Let me know if this sounds good to you. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 20:13, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ohai. Sorry about your RfA, but the copyvio and NPOV were problems. PeterSymonds suggested WP:DYK? Well, I'll be happy to review some of your DYK noms as I normally review them, if that's okay with you. -- RyRy (talk) 21:30, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
QUI/Status
Qui uses the page User:RyanLupin/Status to store the status. What I'd suggest is move that page to User talk:RyanLupin/Status and change the switch to {{User:RyanLupin/Status}}, then Qui can update it as desired. –xenocidic (talk) 23:16, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
- If you add the paramater |offset=100 (or so) to statustop, it won't obscure those other icons. But also, I've fixed your old status indicator to use the Qui switch, if you'd rather use that. –xenocidic (talk) 23:31, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
- No problem - enjoy. –xenocidic (talk) 23:39, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
When you are ready to give it another go...
If you should go for another spell of RfA fun, let me know and I will be there to back you. Ecoleetage (talk) 00:38, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks very much. :) Pleasure. :D It's up to you when you want to start (just let me know when you do), but you might want to start by reading WP:DYK for the general rules. Following that, think about what sort of topic you'd like to write about. I'm thinking it might be a good idea to work on a Kent village/town. It's easier to write them from scratch -- 1500 characters is the minimum DYK amount, which is generally pretty manageable. However, if the article already exists, it's required that it has a five-fold expansion before it qualifies for DYK, which is also manageable if the article is a one line stub. Let me know what you think you'd like to do (and again, there's no rush). Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 08:14, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm disappointed to learn that you have closed your RfA. Although I fully believed that you were more than qualified to be an Administrator, others unfortunately seemed to think otherwise. Please contact me if you run again, as you will fully have my support. Happy editing and good luck with the future. - k|e|n|g - t | c - 22:53, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- The RfA started out good, but edits I had made 12 months ago were nitpicked excessively to the point where 'opposes' were springing out left right and centre. I am disappointed that some people thought 12 months wasn't enough time to improve when I've seen editors granted with adminship within months of activity, but alas...the community has its many flaws. Thanks for your support anyway ——RyanLupin • (talk) 22:58, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

I don't want to do anything fancy, just want to change the background color. As you can see, my useroage is rather small. Could you tell me how, or possibly give me a link? Also, how would I change the external link on my page to a different location? (as in, the letters "this song", rather than the superscript "1"?) —Preceding unsigned comment added by ISmellDonuts (talk • contribs)
- To change the background of your page, use something like this <div style="background: Blue">type everything here</div>. As for your external link, try this: <span class="plainlinks">[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLAqlIvVaTw Give this a listen]</span>. Hope that's helpful. Star wars
There is going to be a lot of star wars vandalism - it's aimed at me (and being organised off site) - I've been trying to clean up the warhammer 40k articles. This means that I'm a star wars fan (eh?) and that the best way to respond is to attack the Star Wars articles. --Allemandtando (talk) 22:55, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Busted
Ryan, have a look at that amulet-heart girl's userpage. Remember, the one who was talking to me about her userpage? She just got completely busted by an admin, for having about ten different vandalism-dedicated accounts from her IP address. Seemed so innocent too.. Haha, maybe thats why she posted all those pictures of that big-eyed manga girl on her page!ISmellDonuts (talk) 00:50, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah I noticed that, maybe she is innocent? Didn't she say it was her brother? I've had incidents in the past where my siblings have vandalised through my IP. Also with school and Uni both being blocked, I've had to have my account given the IP block exemption right so I can still edit. ——RyanLupin • (talk) 09:50, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Warning User:Andrewb1 with regard to Fastest with the Mostest
It seems to me that this warning was used incorrectly. The edit mentioned is clearly not vandalism. What is more, it was a single issue notice, which is doubtlessly harsh. I note that this user has been pulled up for other infractions, but a misuse of warning labels such as this should not stand, and I urge you to look at the incident and issue an apology/ point out where I have misunderstood. Thanks, - Toon05 22:18, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi Ryan. Looks like your talkpage has been under attack from User:80.42.157.166 who left fake block and retired notices on your page. Rest asured that you have not been blocked, but 80.42.157.166 has been. Best, Gwernol 22:32, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

WP:HAU, Status, and you!
As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. If you are already using Qui (or a compatible system) - great! - no action is needed (other than remembering to update your status as necessary). If not, consider installing Qui. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Please clear this parameter if you change things to be "HAU compatible". Further questions can be raised at WT:HAU. This message was delivered by xenobot 23:09, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'm already using it :) ——RyanLupin • (talk) 23:12, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Ryan, why would you say my list of "baby slang" words for pacifiers are not supposed to be on the pacifier page?? I'm totally confused by that. I tried to change it several times, but it kept being reverted back to the old version, just throwing my stuff out of there. Those are legitimate words that are slang words for pacifiers, some of which I picked up by parents, the internet, and some toddlers and children. Do they not count??? Please explain. This is very frustrating to me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.23.152.205 (talk) 00:35, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

- You added a huge list consisting of one or two worded bullet points. Remember "...excessive lists can dwarf articles and detract from the purpose of Wikipedia..." Besides, these words you added to the article were your own synonyms that you learnt from your parents, (WP:NPOV). Also, you couldn't verify these words with reliable sources. I noticed I wasn't the only editor who reverted back your changes. ——RyanLupin • (talk) 10:00, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

RE: Pham Viet Anh
Do we really need to prod this if it's been deleted at least a half dozen times in the last 24 hours? This article is the second incarnation (the original was Viet Anh Pham, which was speedy'd a half dozen times also before finally being salted). The author(s) are all sockpuppets of User:James Sidis, who seems to just keep going around blocks by creating socks and changing the title of the article slightly. I'm sure the prod will be removed by one of the socks, at that time could we just speedy & salt it, please? - Adolphus79 (talk) 16:28, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- I didn't know it had been deleted many times within a 24 hour period, I just stumbled upon the article whilst on Huggle. It wasn't a stub, with some improvements it could have been a good article. Therefore I prodded it instead of speedied. ——RyanLupin • (talk) 16:44, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Re:Your moves
- "Hi, I noticed you're making a lot of Buffy related page moves but was consensus reached to make such changes? When making changes of such a grand magnitude, discussion is advised beforehand so disputes don't arise ——RyanLupin • (talk) 00:23, 25 July 2008 (UTC)"
I am merely moving the "(Buffy episodes)" pages to "(Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode)", since "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is the full title of the series to conform with Wikipedia standards. Since these moves should be uncontroversial, discussion is unnecessary under Wikipedia's Requested move guidelines.--Darknus823 (talk) 00:34, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- Uncontroversial moves become controversial when someone refutes. Since no discussion has taken place, you've given us no chance to voice our opinions. It might be different if you were only moving one or two articles but making almost 150 moves without a discussion is not very appropriate. ——RyanLupin • (talk) 00:45, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

- If a user is deferred to admins but the action necessary is obvious, should I defer it back to users and do the action myself? Asenine 08:45, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- When a user is deferred to admins, it means regular users cannot create the account because it is too similar to an existing username. Wikipedia admins can override the anti-spoof and create 'similar' accounts. If you see a username that's been deferred to admins, the chances are, you won't be able to create the account so you should probably just leave it there until an admin comes along. If you have IRC, pop along to #wikipedia-en-accounts where there are many account creators discussing the tool, regards —— RyanLupin • (talk) 08:54, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- I realise, but what I am saying is that it is completely blatant (ie. it is the same username in a different capitalization). I was actually asking whether if it was very blatant then whether I should drop it myself. So should I? :) Asenine 08:58, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, I mean 'too similar', not 'drop'. Asenine 09:01, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- Admins would still be able to create the account. If the similar account hasn't been used for a while, the admin will override their username and give it to the user making the request. —— RyanLupin • (talk) 09:02, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

I've not seen you around before so I'm not sure how you usually communicate here on the project but is this really necessary? Question-Help
Hello Ryan and thanks for accepting to help me. May I write an article about an open source software I developed myself, on Wikipedia? Because I am not sure it is ok with Wikipedia policies.
Dylan Borg (talk) 07:27, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- Providing your article meets Wikipedia's core inclusion policies, it shouldn't be a problem. You need to ask yourself these questions: Is my article notable? Can it be verified through reliable third party sources? Be bold, create the article and if it fails to meet these guidelines, someone will help. Read Wikipedia's 5 pillars for more information. Yeah I know, The edit on the Calvin (Calvin and Hobbes) page which I reverted had a sentence that read "other six year olds" so instantly I thought it was vandalism I should have looked into it more. I guess I am just learning from my mistakes. I promise I will be more careful in the future. Have a nice day. and just for the record in two days I have done about 450 reverts using Huggle and I have made about five or six errors, I think that is pretty good but of course I am aiming for 100 percent accuracy.--Theoneintraining (talk) 20:19, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Ryan, please do not blindly insert  's in every occurrence of "10m" that you find in this article - you have now twice done it in the middle of a reference's URL, breaking the reference. -- Arwel (talk) 16:45, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Question
Hi again, Do you know if there is a page on here that is a manual or user guide for adding pictures? I know how to add pictures, I just would like to read about more advanced things you can do with them. e.g I want to know how to put pictures exactly where I want them.--Theoneintraining (talk) 21:38, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- First of all, I'm assuming you understand the basic syntax for adding images to articles (WP:IMAGES). For more advanced folk, have a read through WP:EIS, regards —— RyanLupin • (talk) 22:10, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Account creation tool
Hi Ryan! You gave me access to the account creation tool yesterday. But my logs are not showing it [2]. Is there something wrong? I can log into the interface just fine, and my name is there on the list too. Or does it take some time for it to appear? Chamal Talk 02:13, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
- Oh wait.. It's only interface admins that are recorded in the log isn't it? Please ignore the earlier message then. Chamal Talk 04:59, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
- Being granted access to the ACC tool doesn't automatically assign you with the account creator right. You are only flagged if you keep hitting the maximum 6 accounts a day quota. Once you've shown evidence of a desire to help with the account creation process, you can apply for the flag at WP:PERM, however, like I said above, only after you've hitten the maximum 6 accounts limit on a regular basis, regards —— RyanLupin • (talk) 09:43, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. I thought it was only admins because I checked a few users, and only admins' logs showed it. Guess I should look a bit more before coming to conclusions. :) Chamal Talk 10:54, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

ACC TOOL
Yes that was me buddy, I requested the tool. I received the following in response.
" Not done According to this, you do not have an account on the internal account creating interface. When you get one, and you get over the six-a-day limit, please apply once more. Thanks, --Maxim (☎) 14:53, 25 August 2008 (UTC)"
Acting on this I then requested a account on the internal account creating interface. Thankyou--Theoneintraining (talk) 16:34, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Account Creator
Hi there Ryan, I was wondering how many edits would I need to have as a minimum before asking for the tool and what the general guidelines are on it. BountyHunter2008 (talk) 18:49, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- There are no minimum requirements when it comes to requesting access to the tool. I assessed your application and decided that 186 edits (only 24 of these were edits to the mainspace) just wasn't enough to demonstrate your knowledge of polices, more specifically the username policy which plays an important part in the account creation process. Feel free to apply again in the near future, regards —— RyanLupin • (talk) 19:29, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information Ryan. I will look at the policy and take notes on it and then apply again in a few weeks or so when I have got the edit count up a bit more and have grasped the actual policies. BountyHunter2008 (talk) 19:38, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Username
Hi again, Ryan! There was a request today to create an account by the name of 'Rdcencyclopedia'. Because of the 'encyclopedia' part, I hesitated to create it. This is not a direct violation of the username policy, but what should I do in an uncertain situation like this? Is the best thing to defer it to administrators or should I go ahead and create it if it seems harmless? Thanks. -- Chamal Talk 02:04, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- If it's not in violation of the username policy you can go ahead and create it, you only defer it to admins if the account you wish to create is too similar to another and you get an error message. If you're unsure whether to create it or not, simply leave it and someone else will go ahead and sort it out —— RyanLupin • (talk) 09:07, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi RyanLupin, the newly created user Abrafiq is a bit fishy because if you search the ip address (195.229.242.52)nothing but vandalism has been done by this user, I might keep an eye on this user if I see anything that is not constructive to the project I will let you know--Theoneintraining (talk) 21:32, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- just adding that you should read the talk page User_talk:195.229.242.52 with that ip address--Theoneintraining (talk) 21:35, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yes but it's a shared IP which we don't block. I reviewed the request and I read the talk page but the IP in question was shared by not just a few users but potentially thousands so I wasn't going to drop/ban. ACC tool account
Hey Ryan, I think it was you who originally accepted me onto the ACC tool. Seeing as there are less than 23 admins, I thought I'd request to be one. I've been on the tool for a while now and I'm pretty certain I'm doing things right. No harm in asking :) Per the documentation, it just tells me to ask another admin, so here I am! Happy editing —Cyclonenim (talk · contribs · email) 11:39, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- At the moment, I don't think we're promoting any more users to admin as we very recently had a complete purge cutting down the admin list significantly. All I can suggest is for you to come onto our IRC channel (#wikipedia-en-accounts) and see what everyone else thinks. —— RyanLupin • (talk) 11:51, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Account creation limit
Hi again, Ryan! I know this is getting to be a habit, and sorry if I'm bothering you but I have another question. As you said here, the limit for creating accounts is 6 a day. But I had a look at my user creation log and on the 26th, (only the 3rd day of using this tool) I have created 9 accounts. Why has the limit not worked on me? Or is it something we are supposed to stick to, and not enforced? I was not really counting how many I made, but when I looked at the log I saw that on that day I had 9. I'd appreciate it if you could put me on the right track. Thanks. Chamal Talk 14:19, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- Your IP must have changed within that 24 hour time period as the 6 account restriction is imposed on your IP address, not your account. See here for more info —— RyanLupin • (talk) 14:32, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. I think I'll stick to 6 from here onwards. :) Chamal Talk 14:42, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: Help Please
Hi RyanLupin, you have saved the day once again. Thanks for helping me out so many times, I will do what you said and I am sure it will work as everything you helped me with always has. Can I just ask what you think of my work so far on the list or is there a proper place on here I should go to to ask?--Theoneintraining (talk) 10:39, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- The images I have been using are already on wikipedia uploaded by other users, I simply just went to the article of the documentary and clicked on the image then used the file name/directory and added them to the list of documentary's article. Um I thought that would have been fine because they are already being used on wikipedia.--Theoneintraining (talk) 11:10, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- Depending on the image, some have their own rationale justifying their inclusion within certain articles. It also depends on the article, some images are allowed to be included. However, when there are replaceable images available, non-free images cannot be used —— RyanLupin • (talk) 11:44, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Closure of Movie Smackdown
I notice you have closed the AFD for Movie Smackdown early. I assume you did this under WP:SNOWBALL as I was the only Delete vote? Could I ask if you considered the nature of all the other keep votes? By my reckoning at least 3 were WP:SPA, see Pusster1, Walkingbillboard, and CineTex. Two others have had barely any edits Chickflix and Loengard. This might be all OK, but at least puts WP:SNOWBALL in some doubt. Obviously I was a lone voice but I would have preferred to allow the Afd to run its full course, to see if any other editor viewed the article in the same why I did - a large, well-referenced piece on the nature of modern film criticism, hiding an unreferenced, and therefore unnotable, website. Tassedethe (talk) 07:41, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
- It was a very bold closure but I did assess each response including your suggestion of deleting the article. Each user who voiced their opinion brought up strong points. However, I figured that the OR concern that your brought up could easily be rectified during the articles re-vamp. L'Aquatique managed to convince the author to enhance the article which they've done significantly since the article was original brought to AfD. Rest assured, I will keep my eye on it. If you disagree with my closure, I have no problem with you nominating the article again for deletion. —— RyanLupin • (talk) 12:06, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response. I will be interested to see the progress of a revamp, I certainly won't be re-nominating it immediately. I hope that so many voices in support of the article will be prepared to improve it. I am resisting the temptation to hack out all the (in my opinion) irrelevant parts. As it's so close to the AfD it might be seen as sour grapes on my part. Tassedethe (talk) 12:58, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Ryan, another editor has re-nominated this article, with the new debate at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Movie Smackdown (2nd nomination). The concern, in addition to most of the previous nominating rationale (Promotional, etc), is that almost all of the Keeps from the first debate were Single Purpose Accounts related to the subject. No opinion on that matter, but I thought I'd mention it here since the previous close is being discussed. FYI, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 15:01, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

ACC Tool user name
Regarding my Account creation user name, When I was required to create a new user name for the account creation tool it said that I could not user my Wikipedia user name so I chose Toit. The problem is when the new user receives a bot welcome message from me it says I am Toit etc, etc contact me on my user talk page for help. The problem is that it directs to user name Tiot as seen here here and here. I would really prefer if this was either directed to my actual user name (I do not think that is possible) or my account creation user name be changed to Theoneintraining. I honestly think that by me having two accounts on Wikipedia violates the sockpuppet rule/policy or something else. What do you suggest I do? I hope this makes sense it is four thirty in the morning I have been out drinking with friends!!!!!!!!! Thanks RyanLupin.--Theoneintraining (talk) 18:49, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I don't quite understand what you're asking. Yes I can change your name on the tool to 'Theoneintraining,' that's no problem at all. Alternatively, if you click here (ensuring you're logged into the tool,) you can change the signature that is used by the welcome bot to something that suits you. Something like: --[[User:Theoneintraining|Theoneintraining]] | [[User talk:Theoneintraining|(talk)]] It's your choice but I'm slightly confused with what you're asking me here, :) regards —— RyanLupin • (talk) 19:56, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
- Unfortunately the signature is not the issue the problem I was trying to convey to you lies with-in the welcome message itself. It says:
"Welcome to Wikipedia, Holiday inn! I am toit and have been editing Wikipedia for quite some time. I just wanted to say hi and welcome you to Wikipedia! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page or by typing {{helpme}} at the bottom of this page. I love to help new users, so don't be afraid to leave a message! I hope you like the place and decide to stay." As you can see it say i am Toit and directs to there. If you could please change my user name to Theoneintraining that would solve the issue I think and I would be very greatfull.--Theoneintraining (talk) 02:58, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

ACC tool again.
Hi. When on the tool just now, it listed two users as online: me, and "Techman224". But there is no user Techman224 and the link went to the user id page 281, which again doesn't exist as I was the latest registered user at 275. Do you know why/can you explain this? I will well aware that Wikipedia is not censored. But most admins look down on cussing. I posted that comment, because I know (from past experience) that you can get blocked for cussing in an edit summary...and I was trying to prevent that from happening. Re: sinebot
Since you haven't provided diffs, I'm assuming this is what you're talking about? {{NoAutosign}}
works to opt you out from having your posts signed. If you want no autosigning of other users' posts to your talk page, use {{bots}}
on that page accordingly, as is recommended at User:SineBot. --slakr\ talk / 14:43, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Re: Adoption Center
Of course; you're not the first to ask. :-) Feel free, just be aware that some of them are written from my point of view, so might need a little bit of copyediting to fit into your program well. If you see any mistakes or anything, let me know! Hersfold (t/a/c) 15:25, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

acc access?
i'm hoping you could help me out. yesterday i was given account creator rights (or so i think). i created an account in the UI, i logged in, but when i tried to create an account for a user request, i was unable to. it said "the name is too similar." i also noticed that when i look at my user group rights, it doesn't say "account creator." am i missing something? thanks for your help! shirulashem (talk) 16:43, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hey there, first of all being granted access to the ACC tool doesn't automatically assign you with the account creator right. Your account is only flagged if you keep hitting the maximum 6 accounts a day quota. Once you've shown evidence of a desire to help with the account creation process and you appear to be hitting this limit on a regular basis, you can apply for the flag at WP:PERM. Secondly, all the information you need to help you navigate around the tool can be found here. Alternatively, you can join us all in the IRC channel: #wikipedia-en-accounts, regards —— Possum • (talk) 16:51, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- ohhh, ok. gotcha. thanks for the help. shirulashem (talk) 16:57, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
Help?
Ohai. A little birdie told me that if I need help, I could ask you for assistance. My userpage contains three templates. I wished to remove the photograph on my userpage, and thus I went to {{/User}} to remove it, so if I go to User:Angel caboodle/User, the photo will be gone. However, when I go back to my userpage, the photo is still there. I'm completely baffled why my userpage still has my photo up, and I don't know how to remove it. I tried clearing out my cache, restarting my browser, rechecking that I deleted the image from the article... everything. Any help would be much appreciated. — Kendra Michele — 20:11, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- I think this is a problem with Wikipedia as I'm having the same problem. You can either wait for the issue to be resolved or you can replace the template shortcut with the full path ({{User:Angel_caboodle/User}}) —— Possum • (talk) 20:15, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm... that seems to have done the trick. How odd. Anyways fanx. :-) — Kendra Michele — 20:17, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Ohai dere! Would you care to adopt me? I'm friendly and nice and (supposedly) a n00b and I'd like you to show me the ropes. Interested? — Kendra Michele — 20:25, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- I'll happily adopt you, this is your adoption subpage which is where we'll be working together and here is where you'll find all the information regarding your classes and assignments. Eh...
I don't understand why i got a block warning. User:Realist2 reverted an edit of mine without checking the source. In fact he said the source was from popjustice when it was actualy from Britney Spears's official site. He also said i didn't mention the edit on the talkpage, which i did you can check it and see. When i replied to him i wasn't rude just pointing out he was mistaken. That's not vandalism. Ogioh (talk) 23:24, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- Britneys fan site or popjustice are not reliable, end. — Realist2 23:27, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- Please refrain from declaring her official site as unreliable. Its the reason why the cover artwork is up on the article because it was declared os official on britney.com. Need i say her OFFICIAL site once more. End! Ogioh (talk) 23:30, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

I would like to see how my first articles go. I would like to write 3 for now. I can't be a fulltime admin/edit/... person, but I can make more contributions after I've learnt how to do them properly.
? Still keen?

Adoption?
Hello Ryan,
Could you possibly adopt me? I know it's not normally done this way, but we've had some contact in the past so I just wondered.
I just want to get back into good standing and regain (or just gain) the community's trust. I also want to branch out from trams etc and leave tram stuff to my SPA, TramMan.
Many thanks,
BG7even 07:56, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hey Ryan,
- From what i've heard from various sources both before and after the incident is that i haven't had any trust :(.
- I suppose it will be more mentoring that full-on adoption, as i'm aware of a lot of the policies etc in place ;). I do need help however with keeping cool, agf and other such things where I have had trouble in the past ;).
- Cheers,
- BG7even 16:02, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure you can be renamed, but it will separate you from your SUL, and you may meet some usurpation problems in other wikis. Are you sure you want to proceed? bibliomaniac15 16:44, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- Ah that's a shame. As much as I'm desperate for my name to be changed, I find the SUL very helpful and I didn't know that renames detach you from your global account. If I were to be renamed, is there a way of reinitialising the SUL like I did when it was originally implemented? The only projects I contribute to are en, simple, commons, meta and rarely the Turkish wikipedia. —— Possum • (talk) 17:07, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- As of late the only way I'm aware of is renaming your accounts and merging them. bibliomaniac15 03:08, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks - possible shared ip
Thanks for the revert on my talk page, but the IP was telling me that they had not made the reverts. I don't know as it's not listed as being a shared ip, and the person didn't indicate that they were using a shared ip, so I basically just told them to create an account. Just giving you the heads up on a possible shared ip. Olly150 22:59, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Shmoo
Hi Ryan. Thanks for undoing the inexplicable vandalism on the Shmoo page. The entry was carefully researched, which involved reviewing more than four decades worth of material. It was entirely retooled and rewritten by myself and my pal, Surfer Joe (along with Li'l Abner, Al Capp, Fearless Fosdick, Sadie Hawkins Day, Dogpatch and Lower Slobbovia). Unfortunately, your graphic breakdown of "What Wikipedia Has Become" is all too true. Best, Mike Fontanelli —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.133.217.98 (talk • contribs)
