Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to List of museums in New Jersey. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 21:48, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How is this promotional material? It's a factual reference to an actual museum. Boxbruceleitner (talk) 04:23, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not attack other editors, as you did at User talk:Boxbruceleitner. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Your draft was deleted as a copyright infringement AND it was blatant advertising. Theroadislong (talk) 13:58, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Draft:Skylands Museum of Art, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Welcome!

Hello, Boxbruceleitner, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. This process has been incredibly frustrating. I do not work for the museum or receive any compensation from the museum. The museum exists. I added a listing for it, with third party independent verification, and was simply pointed at the guidelines without any specific complaints about what was wrong with either the page or the inclusion on the list of museums, which both contained only factual information about the museum. I do not understand why this was removed, why it was determined that my username indicates that I am a company (it’s just a reference to an actor I like), or why this other user Theroadislong has been, frankly, an unhelpful jerk about this. I’m sorry - copyright infringement now? This is the first mention of that. For what? Again, you keep saying it was blatant advertising, but that is your opinion without any specifics. It was all factual information. 71.241.151.148 (talk) 14:06, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's correct see here [1]. Theroadislong (talk) 14:08, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Don't shoot the messenger, you are free to contest this with the deleting admin User:Jimfbleak. Being "factual information", is irrelevant you cannot copy and paste content and all content needs to be written in a neutral tone. Theroadislong (talk) 14:12, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is no helpful information there, just a note that the page was deleted for copyright infringement. What part of the page was infringing on copyright? I’m trying very hard to comply with the guidelines and receiving no feedback about these problems other than “look at the guidelines”. Boxbruceleitner (talk) 14:17, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am not an admin so can't see the deleted content but as I said above, the deleting admin User:Jimfbleak will be able to give you more insight. Theroadislong (talk) 14:53, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But you were the one who rejected the page submission and then nominated the page for speedy deletion. What were the specific issues you had with the content of the page? Your feedback was just an unhelpful general “this does not meet the guidelines” complaint. Boxbruceleitner (talk) 15:01, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Theroadislong thanks for ping. Boxbruceleitner, your editing has been largely restricted to writing a full article about the museum, and editing an article about Allene Fields, a founder. I don't think It's unreasonable to ask if you have a the conflict of interest since if you do you must declare it, as it is required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. . Also read the following regarding writing an article:

  • you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the organisation or company, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, logs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the company or organisation claims or interviewing its management. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls
  • Your text is almost entirely unreferenced, the only verified facts are its founders and the date it opened
  • The notability guidelines for organisations and companies have been updated. The primary criteria has five components that must be evaluated separately and independently to determine if it is met:
  1. significant coverage in
  2. independent,
  3. multiple,
  4. reliable,
  5. secondary sources.
Note that an individual source must meet all four criteria to be counted towards notability.
  • To show notability you need hard verifiable facts such as the number of employees, management structure, number of visitors, funding or expenditure. It's not clear even whether it's a private museum or a charity, free or charging.
  • You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews.
  • such as goal of bringing their love of fantastical and surrealist art... that express the human spirit, imagination and history of fantasy... We hope that, as you explore the museum, you will experience a sense of wonder at both the imagination and the skill that it takes to turn a rock or a blank canvas into the beautiful objects we have collected for your appreciation and that you will visit us again and so on, fact-free promo
  • There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
  • You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.
  • You include what you claim is a welcome letter, although there is no full attribution. More to the point, we have nothing to indicate that what appears to be a verbatim copy is explicitly public domain or free to use for any purpose, including commercial, as required here. You can't just use other people's text for the bulk of your article, even if it wasn't so inappropriate, you must write in your own words

. Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Also read Your first article. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:58, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, this is more helpful feedback. Boxbruceleitner (talk) 15:04, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As an admin, I can see the deleted text. Theroadislong correctly, in my view, nominated the article for deletion, but after the deletion they have no more access than you, and they did politely their best given that limitation Jimfbleak - talk to me?
