Disambiguation link notification for November 3
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Orpington, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page KENT. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 07:52, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you recently removed maintenance templates from Orpington Boxing Club. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Please see Help:Maintenance template removal for further information on when maintenance templates should or should not be removed. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. Thank you. Belbury (talk) 11:03, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. This article still needs work on copyediting and the number and structure of its headings. Belbury (talk) 09:18, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
Please stop. If you continue to remove maintenance templates without resolving the problem that the template refers to, as you did at Orpington Boxing Club, you may be blocked from editing. Saying "I checked the grammar" is not a reason to remove the peacock and section related templates. And there are typos and punctuation errors in just the lead, the article still needs some copyediting. Belbury (talk) 09:50, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Maintenance templates are to be removed after maintenance has been done, and have done by the terms and conditions of Wikipedia. The article is live and I’ve gone over the grammar, cohesive manner of it and the sections. Please stop adding multiple maintenance templates with out actually trying to resolve the first maintenance template. Try to contribute in a more constructive manner. Box32 (talk) 09:56, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Feel free to go ahead and change the typos Box32 (talk) 09:57, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- I feel like I've already given you and this article enough of my time, so I'll let someone else take a proper look at the issue. The article has been added to Category:Wikipedia articles needing copy edit from November 2024 so somebody will get to it eventually. Belbury (talk) 10:06, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- It’s not mine or my article it’s a community project to preserve history of the oldest club in Kent. My connection is that of a boxing journalist and historian.
- You have not given any time you have only added up maintenance templates ! Rather than giving any substance to the article, it only seems to be you that believes the article has maintenance issues.
- So yes we would be grateful for less of your time. Box32 (talk) 10:11, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Perhaps you don't recognise my username, but I talked you through a lot of the issues with the article at length here on your talk page, earlier this year (you've deleted the discussion now), and helped you sort out and format the newspaper references for it.
- I'm adding the maintenance templates in good faith, I think these are things that need fixing up to make it a better article. Belbury (talk) 10:18, 13 November 2024 (UTC)

Hello, I'm SovalValtos. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Orpington, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. SovalValtos (talk) 09:04, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- Ok the source is already in the page / however I’ll that in. Im a orpington historian. Box32 (talk) 09:10, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of published material to articles as you apparently did to Orpington Urban District. Please cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. SovalValtos (talk) 08:01, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
- Adding cite now as this was taken from a news paper article. Box32 (talk) 08:08, 17 November 2024 (UTC)

Please stop. If you continue to add unsourced or poorly sourced content, as you did at England Boxing, you may be blocked from editing. SovalValtos (talk) 10:08, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- I’m a boxing historian, I’ll add it back up if removed and I add the references. It’s not poorly sourced it’s all factual / feel free to contribute to the page and locate / google everything ! Before you say sweeping statements that’s it’s poorly sourced. It was sourced directly from the london ABA and london Boxing websites.
- I’ll go in add citations as it’s ongoing work that I’m doing so please do not delete it.
- just add a peacock or maintenance tag. Box32 (talk) 10:17, 21 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Your recent editing history at Orpington shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. - Incorrect and slanderous ! Actually after various research I added valuable corrections to the Orpington page, I hadn’t finished the editing nor have I finished.
- I feel I’m better qualified regarding the Orpington page as I’m a Orpington / Kent historian.
- what slipped my mind was to add the reasons to my edits, which I’ll now do. Box32 (talk) 21:59, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- No. You have been trying this edit for weeks and I see you have been reverted by 4 different editors. You have provided no sources, and it is wrong. Orpington is in th eLondon Borough of Bromley, which is not in Kent. Please use the article talk page and stop edit warring. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 22:43, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- No that’s incorrect, as I have added sources, Orpington is in Kent also. Box32 (talk) 22:46, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- Take it to the talk page of the article. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 22:49, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- feel free to cite that, if not I’ll do it tomorrow Box32 (talk) 22:50, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- So you are unaware of the issue with the Post Office database. The Post Office does not use counties for delivery, and have not done so for many years. Consequently their database contains a deprecated county field that does not get updated. It contains multiple errors, but that's okay because they do not use the field at all. Delivery is done by postcode. They do, however, license use of their database to others, and those others frequently use the deprecated county field without being aware of this issue, which is why you have web forms that have all kinds of county oddities. It is odd that a page about a post office has that error in it, but it will have been supplied by the local post master without checking, which explains it. Now if you type that postcode (BR6 0PF) into the official address finder here, you will see what I mean. No county, see? You cannot use the fact that people put Kent on an address as evidence that the place is in Kent. They do that, and no one cares. You could also write in Surrey, Ceredigion, Dyfed, or Sodor on there and the letter would still be delivered. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 23:12, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

- The Mp Gareth Bacon - I’ll cite this tomorrow as it clearly gives his address as Orpington Kent.
- hopefully that’s a few examples of border that lies within both the Bromley Borough to the north and hamlets and villages of Orpington into the Kent border. Box32 (talk) 22:54, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- What an MP says is not a reliable source for the legal county status. So this is not a suitable source. But in any case, look closely what he says:
I have worked tirelessly to deliver for this beautiful part of historic Kent.
He is a conservative, and those who vote for him will skew older. They are significantly more likely to recall the pre 1965 borders, and, indeed, to have been born in Orpington when it was in Kent. So he speaks of the beautiful part of historic Kent. By which he means it was in Kent historically. He knows, of course, that it is not in Kent now. He doesn't say that because his voters won't like it.Now once again, do not simply re-assert your edit tomorrow. That will be edit warring. You have been reverted by 4 different editors. Your change will not be retained unless you can build a consensus on the article talk page. Please discuss it there. Not this talk page - put it on the article talk page where all editors interested in the article can take part. Thanks. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 23:17, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
