Taliban

What do you mean by nonsense? Taliban is a religious movement, not a race movement. Litrboxr, Tuesday, October 23, 2007

User: warrior4321

I was writing an article on MSN Scripts, when BY ACCIDENT I clicked Save Page instead of Show Preview, now since I have Vista and a hi-speed internet, I couldn't click ESC in time, and it got saved. I didn't mean for it to save so quickly without any information

Thx, next time I will tell you earlier

Philip DeFranco

Philip is famous on YouTube and doesn't have a wikipedia article. He's got more subscribers and views than half of the people listed on this site. What can I do to keep the article up? I'm learning all I can as fast as I can. —Preceding unsigned comment added by UncleBobby629 (talkcontribs) 19:39, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Why did you delete an article I created 10 minutes ago? I wasn't even through with it! That was wrong and uncalled for. —Preceding unsigned comment added by UncleBobby629 (talkcontribs) 19:47, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Evangelical Free Church of Canada marked for deletion

A tag has been placed on Evangelical Free Church of Canada requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

You may wish to familiarize yourself with the Wikipedia guidelines before proceeding. Articles in Wikipedia must be about notable subjects and the notability of those subjects must be verifiable. It is not enough for an organization merely to exist -- it must have somehow distinguished itself from its peers and become notable, and that notability must be corroborated by independent third-party arm's-length sources (such as magazine articles, etc.). If I can help further, leave a note on my talk page. Accounting4Taste 20:35, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

The tag has been removed by DGG.

I had assumed that's what happened. In either case, no problem. Mgiganteus1 15:32, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Duplicate images uploaded

Thanks for uploading Image:Viau Bridge.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Resized0008.jpg. The copy called Image:Resized0008.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 03:59, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion

No offense, but I would suggest that you calm down your nomination for speedy deletion. So far today you have nominated two articles I have written for speedy deletion, based on two different rationale. Speedy deletion is a step you take when there is no doubt whatsoever that the article meets one of the criteria. If there is any doubt at all, you should instead nominate it for AfD, or in case of a question of notability, use {{notability}} to question the notability. Then let matters settle themselves. As for the article Nor-Cargo being blunt advertisement, I would really like to see your reasoning for that. Honestly, I do. Try to find one sentence that is not encyclopedic or favoringly biased in one way. What you are doing now is actually vandalism and I could actually revert them as such if I wanted to. Also, remember that to nominate articles for deletion, speedy or not, you should leave a message on the talk page, if even in brief, to explain your point of view. So please, calm down, stop vandalizing Wikipedia, you're only ruining you're integrity here. Of course, I would encourage you to contribute to the site and be bold. Edit summaries

Hi. Thanks for keeping up with Special:Newpages, but I have a request: Please use an edit summary when flagging pages for speedy deletion (or, indeed, for all edits). Even giving a deletion summary like "db-bio" or "db-attack", the same name as the template, makes it easier for administrators (or, indeed, all users) to know why an article is being flagged for speedy deletion. Thanks. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 04:33, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Well, I never thought of it that way. I don't feel insulted, instead rather silly. You have got a good point, nobody will ever know about the article unless it is a stub :) Big texas lump 05:55, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

AFD on "My Page by Puissant"

You hit that page before I did. I see you've AFD'd it, which is cool. It was nonsense. However, I have one comment. You AFD'd it as nonsense, Puissant blanked his page then you AFD'd it again because it was blanked. YOu already have one AFD on that page. DOn't you think the second one was excessive ? Heck, anyone checking the history of that page could see what was on it and that it was nonsense, so there would be no problem on just the first AFD alone. ...I noticed the same problem, and went back to delete those articles which had been overlooked. Hi there. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 16:47, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Wow, I really can't believe you... You come from Quebec, speak a couple languages, spend your time on wikipedia clicking on refresh "recently changed pages" and must be so happy to have added a "copyright infringement" for Zeppoo... So first thing is that you do not know anything about computer science and feel free to say the article is useless (basically). Once I notice you that, you decide to change the purpose of the reporting, probably thinking: "ah! I'm going to get that one and make sure it is erased just for my pleasure!". Did you *even* go on the website? Did you notice the word "copyright" somewhere? Funny, I don't think so. Why? Because there isn't! You must be so proud of you. Isn't it said between the lines of the Bible not to do such a mean/useless thing? To have read it when I was younger, I'll have to answer yes. Xionbox —Preceding comment was added at 18:21, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

All text is copyrighted, unless the author has specifically released it into the public domain or under a copyleft license such as the GFDL. If a text does not specifically say that it is not copyrighted, then it is, and copying it is not legal. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 18:25, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
First of all, I'm sorry to say that I do not see why my message is not polite. I am just expressing my point of view, with no vulgarity, unless asking questions is considered by certain people as such. Second, I'm sorry I didn't know that very text which is not specifically marked as "copyleft" or another free of use licience is considered as copyrighted. I'll be more cautious next time. Have a nice day. Xionbox 18:30, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
First of all, yes, I did go to the website - to check whether the copyright checker bot had returned a false positive. Indeed, the text was significantly similar as to constitute a copyright violation, so the bot was right in this instance. By default, any text you take from the Web is presumed copyrighted. And since there was no assertion of permission from the website's owner either in the article or on its talk page, then Wikipedia had no choice but to delete your article. All I did was nominate your article for speedy deletion as copyright violation. The administrator who performed the actual deletion agreed with me. --Blanchardb 19:16, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Okay. But I did think it was a very quick reaction. The wbesite owner could of posted a message a couple days later, but I guess that is not a possibility on Wikipedia. Xionbox 20:04, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Yes, we do have a very good reaction time when removing copyright violations, which are illegal, from Wikipedia. We're very proud of how well we do this. If Wikipedia policy recommended allowing such violations to remain for a while, or recommended not deleting the articles until we'd asked the owners of the copyrights to comment, then we'd definitely be violating the law. The Foundation would probably become a target for all kinds of lawsuits, and be bankrupted, and then Wikipedia and all its sisters would cease to exist. Without Wikipeida, ignorance would cover the world. Wars, bigotry, and cruelty would increase. In time, the Great World War would eliminate all human life, and the cockroaches would inherit the earth. So it's good that we delete copyright violations so efficiently. :) -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 21:21, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Aren't you exaggerating a little bit?:-) --Blanchardb 22:56, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
As for Zeppoo, if you can assert that the software is notable under Wikipedia's notability criteria without simply copying text from the organization's website, you are welcome to start a new article on it. Eventually, you will have to provide reliable sources for your assertion. But the assertion itself, if valid, will make sure that, if the article gets deleted, it will not be under the speedy deletion process. --Blanchardb 23:09, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I'll see what I can do. I'll probably try and contact the owner so he can add informations directly. @FisherQueen: Oohhh, now I understand! Thanks =) (I love to do that kind of demonstration too). Xionbox 18:58, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Please see my comment in the AFD. Mergers should be requested elsewhere. It can all be done without the intervention of AFD. (The redirect left after a merge should remain for GFDL purposes). - Mgm|(talk) 22:49, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Old Red Museum speedy deletion

Hi Blanchardb,

It appears you've identified "Articles, No content" as a criterion to request speedy deletion of Old Red Museum. I'd suggest that the article contains more than "only ... external links, category tags and "see also" sections, rephrasing of the title, and/or chat-like comments". In the two minutes between creating the stub and your request for speedy deletion, I did not have time to expand the stub with information about the location, focus of the museum, or photograph which I took earlier today. Were an administrator to act just as fast, I would not have had the chance at all, as re-creating the article may have been seen as an edit war. Please reconsider leaping on stubs so quickly where a foundation is being laid for expansion. --WikiWikiPhil (talk) 23:53, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Are you familiar with Scottish Politics? If so I think you'll agree that Matthew Marr is quite well known both within and outside the Labour party. If you'll give me an opportunity to expand the article I'd be more than grateful. --Boatcolour 12:23, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

FYI

There is the order of what to do when you visit shinto shrine. That is not a have-to-do but the right way and most people don't know correctly and don't do.

  1. Wash your hands and rinse your mouth at the chōzuya/temizuya.
  2. Ring a bell.
  3. Make a 90 degree deep bow. (Greeting to kami)
  4. Throw a coin/coins to the box. (offering to kami)
  5. Bow deeply twice, clap your hands twice and make a wish or say gratitude to kami, then bow deeply once for thanks to kami.

Hope this might help. Oda Mari (talk) 06:11, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Certified of New York marked for deletion

Why do you want to delete this page? Morimoto is Tadao Ando first venture into NYC. Restaurant 66 is Richard Meier's first restaurant that he designed. These are both Pritzker winning architects making these projects NOTABLE. Please refrain from commenting and deleting pages and articles that you have no understanding of. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.86.195.168 (talk) 18:38, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Here, you are asserting notability by association. Which does not fit Wikipedia's criteria for notability, regardless of what you think. Judging by what you wrote alone, I would say that Morimoto should be mentioned in the Tadao Ando article, and that Restaurant 66 should be mentioned in the Richard Meier article. Come to think of it, Morimoto has his own article, and no doubt he is notable. But that does not mean anything as per the notability of Certified of New York. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 18:50, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Question about Positron

I wrote this submission to give a brief description about a company that is used in multiple 9-1-1 dispatch centers and I refer to it from a couple of my other entries (as well as the "Positron" disambig page). I have read the criteria you suggested for a submission being "notable", and I can't figure it out because it is very confusing. What would make this company less "notable" (and a candidate for speedy deletion) than, say, the Ford Motor Company, other than the fact I did not put much more content into the submission? There are multiple articles about this company in many trade journals that may be referenced if need be.

Thanks, Firerescuelieut 02:38, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Your proposal for deletion

Hello, I saw your proposal for deletion of a page I have been working on (actually almost the whole day): List of Spanish companies. I understand what you say about Wikipedia not being a directory, but I was trying to create an analog site to "List of French companies", "List of Italian companies"...Furthermore the Wikipedia categories does not specify in which sector the companies are active. If you have concerns with the sources, I will document that all (I was aiming to do that, in a second step). Please, let me know. I have overwritten your comment since I had been working further on the draft and there was suddenly a conflict because of your comment. I hope we can work it out. It would be really a pity having to delete all that stuff, as said I was quite enthusiastic documenting all this since it was my first "project". --Wikihelp4u (talk) 02:09, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

The proposed deletion process is designed in such a way that if even one person objects to the deletion of an article it has to go through another process if the article is to be deleted. At this point I will not initiate an AfD discussion on this one. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 02:14, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Speedy delete of KBTL-FM page

Was it necessary to speedily delete KBTL-FM within seconds of it being created? It was pretty obvious that it was a cut and paste error. One that I was in the process of fixing when Wikipedia started throwing errors at me because the page had been deleted under me.

While I understand the need to clean the cruft out of Wikipedia, I would have appreciated a note on my talk page calling the issue to my attention before blowing the page away.--Rtphokie (talk) 14:03, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

It is because I realized the nature of the error that I did not leave a note on your talk page. Sorry about that. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 14:04, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
You did leave a note on my page. I don't understand your comment above, please explain further.--Rtphokie (talk) 15:05, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
My bad... You might want to talk to the admin who performed the actual deletion. Tereska Torres

Calm down! I can't write so quick, as you throw around general notability guidelines! Tereska Torres was finance to the Free French Prime Ministers son, married the publisher of Anne Franks diaries and wrote the first Lesbian pulp fiction book Lesbian pulp fiction#Women's Barracks in 1950. Plus many more books! --noclador (talk) 14:06, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

I realized that her works would come sooner or later, that's why I put the general notability tag on the article, and not the speedy deletion tag. The article as it stands claims that she is a writer, which I presume is her biggest claim to notability, yet it mentions none of her works. This way, I am giving you plenty of time to add meat to your article. It won't be deleted that quickly. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 14:13, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

BlanchardB

Thanks for your comments on the article on software compatibility. It seems that times have changed. In the past other users would simply have changed the article to make it more useful, but now we seem to want to argue about its very existence before it's taken shape. I hope you'll give it a chance, and that others can come in and contribute. I believe strongly that software compatibility issues are a major problem for end users and for developers. Some of the criticisms are that there is little information about this, and the article does not make use of verifiable sources. This can probably be rectified. Problems are: 1. Some practitioners do not actually understand or care about how software components/programs/systems can be incompatible, and the effect this has on end users, and also on their companies and other developers. 2. There are many practitioners who know about this kind of thing, but their knowledge becomes a sort of collective folk-lore, or shall we say collection of tacit knowledge, which they are unwilling or unable to write down. This does not only happen in computing/communications. I know many professionals who "know" things, but are not able or willing to communicate their knowledge to others in written or spoken form. It's often not malicious - they just don't know how to do it!

There are lots of issues here. They're not just about testing, but about maintainability etc. I (and others) favour formal verification, but that doesn't solve all problems, as even systems which are formally verified can change, or develop unanticipated errors. Developers cannot be expected to know about every other software system which is compatible/incompatible with the one they are developing, unless there are systems which have a very high likelihood of being run in the same environment at the same time (e.g an anti-virus system and a firewall, which was my example). From the end user's point of view, some incompatibilities can be best coped with if they are known about. Another example is the use of Total Recorder to record audio. This interacts with several other programs. It probably interacts with anti-virus software to cause disc thrashing, though because it appears to keep a high priority for recording, this usually succeeds, but the machine becomes very slow. Another example, with practical implications is the use of Total Recorder with Skype. In this case if a user leaves TR running to record audio, but during this another Skype user tries to contact the first user, then the recording is abandoned. Knowing about this problem in advance a user can turn Skype off before initialising TR. It does not necessarily imply that either Total Recorder or Skype are "bad" programs, but rather that special care needs to be taken to get them each to work as required. It may also be impossible (at the present time) for them to run together in the same environment satisfactorily.

Knowing this can make a big difference to some people, and help them to understand how/why things go wrong, and also to avoid problems in specific circumstances. David Martland (talk) 08:16, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of "World Mahjong Tour"

A tag has been placed on "World Mahjong Tour" requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. deletion of my contribution

Hello,

I just realised that my contribution titled Oasis Fan Site Live4ever.us was deleted by you.

I'm not sure why since I was just writing a factual article regarding the site. The site is established and clearly has a position as the most popular Oasis fan site for the past 5 years. It was not meant to be an ad for the site but an info page since the site is linked to from the wikipedia page on the band Oasis. Please clarify the deletion for me.

Many thanks worldwideviral —Preceding unsigned comment added by Worldwideviral (talkcontribs) 22:27, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Just because a site is the most popular of its kind does not mean it is notable. The kind itself must be notable if an article is to be written about it. You could try a simple mention of that site in the Oasis article. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 22:32, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Björk

While I agree that "Dull Flame Of Desire" isn't independently notable until it's actually released as a single, you might want to review and revise your nomination a bit: it's not unverifiable speculation about a future album — it's just a bit of gun-jumping about a song that already exists, on an album that was released seven months ago. (I'm also a bit mystified that a person who has a "This user listens to electronic music" userbox on his user page wouldn't already know that, electronic music being the very subculture over which Björk looms the largest in the first place, but whatever...) Ultimately, the only way an article will flourish on Wikipedia is if its subject has been addressed by reliable sources outside Wikipedia that establish enough notability to be interesting to a significant enough portion of the community. The article, as it stands, only has references of the "See Also" kind, with no indication that the term Spiritual Activism is used even within the groups these sites describe. Note: I wrote the term and not the concept. It could very well be that Wikipedia already has an article about this concept, under another name. I haven't checked.
Note also that I put a PROD tag, and not an AfD tag because I believe the article can be salvaged. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 22:47, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

That's because of inappropriate syntax. You marked <ref> (begin reference) what you should have marked </ref> (end reference). Sorry, but that happened over a month ago so it is too late to do anything about it, as the perpetrator's ISP probably reassigned another IP number to him, as most ISPs periodically do. For an incident any more than a day old, the best course of action is to just revert the offensive edits and then forget about the whole matter. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 21:04, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

The problem is, this is a well-known phenomenon, but is the term Cupertino effect generally accepted to refer to it? So please tread carefully. Note, also, that I did not mark your article for deletion, just for cleanup. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 22:15, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

OpenKM article

Hello Blanchardb,

About OpenKM article I was inspired on other articles on the same way presents on wikipedia at [Document_management_system]. I'm really ofuscated intending to write like you say a neutral article, because I can found found great diferences beetween article what I've writen and the other like I used as a content base like Alfresco_(software), Documentum, KnowledgeTree.

Tell me what I must change, because comparing with this I think I'm on the same way.

Thanks.

Actually, the article on OpenKM is written pretty much the same way as Alfresco (software), except for the Awards part which is what saves Alfresco from deletion as it establishes the product's notability. When notability is the issue, that means the real question is, should you even bother to write an article on this subject?
Anyway, what makes in fact both articles look like ads right now is the fact the features section is too detailled and written in such a way that it sounds like this software is better than the other one. Just stick with the main features and write the section as prose, not as a list. Also, the license section should be deleted altogether.
But most important, the OpenKM article currently suffers from a fatal flaw: it has no third-party reliable sources. All of the external links are from the developpers of OpenKM themselves, and, as such, do not establish the software's notability. You must find reviews of this software in reputable publications. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 12:50, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Hello, as AfD nominator of this article I wanted to let you know that there have been several changes to the article since you nominated it. Recent comments left seem to indicate that there is wide acceptance for keeping it based on the new version of the article. Would you please take a moment to review the article and the AfD and determine if you think it would be aappropriate for you to retract your nomination? If you do decide to do so, just strikethrough your original text, and add a message about retracting nomination and briefly why (like: "New context clearly passes WP:N") This might make it easier for the closing admin to determine concensus, and may also possibly allow an early close under snowy conditions. Actually there are plenty of warning templates you can use on his talk page. See WP:WARN for a complete list. Start with a level 1 or 2 warning depending on the severity of the situation. (You may go directly to level 3 or 4 if the person has a history of disruptive edits.) And when the person ignores a level 4 warning, report him at WP:AIV and watch him as he gets blocked within the next 5 minutes. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 04:31, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I noticed that the PROD had been added in the time it took for me to complete my AfD.
As a personal policy, I never prod a newly created article: those tend to be contested by their authors. The AfD is already being discussed (two comments already), so I think the PROD, at this point, is redundant. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 15:08, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

In the interests of consensus, and openness, and complying with WP:NOT#wikipedia is not a battleground may I suggest you consider getting in the habit of making a greater effort to explain yourself? Geo Swan (talk) 20:45, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

The article as it exists now would be more appropriate for Wikisource than Wikipedia. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 21:29, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
I saw you applied a {{mergeto}} tag.
Perhaps you are not familiar with the use of tags? Some tags, when instantiated, tell readers to look to the talk page for a discussion of why the tag was placed. The {{mergeto}} tag is one of those tags.
I write on controversial topics. Consequently my contributions attract a lot of trolls, vandals and wikistalkers. One of the favourite disruptive tactics of those wikistalkers has been to place bogus, inappropriate wikitags on articles they don't want to be on the wikipedia, for their own POV reasons.
I asked, on WP:AN/I what to do when someone places a tag that obliges them to add a further explanation to the appropriate talk page, and then fail to do so. I was told I didn't have to give them a heads-up. I didn't have to give them a week or so to respond to that heads-up. I was told that I could remove undefended tags, without any advance warning, after 24 hours.
I think that advice was too extreme. So, I am giving you a heads-up.
Would you please consider being careful when you apply tags, and if they tell readers to look to a talk page for the discussion, would you please start that discussion?
The rest of us aren't mindreaders. We can't know why you placed the tag, if you don't take the time to explain yourself. Geo Swan (talk) 00:07, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Psyché (play) v. Psyché (opera)

Looks like you caught me in mid-edit. The original Psyché article specifically stated that the play and the opera were often confused and then proceded to discuss both. As there was a lot of information about both pieces in the article, I was in the process of breaking them them into two articles when you added your redirect. I have replaced your redirect with the information about the Psyché (play). The Psyché article is now solely about the opera, and there are links back and forth on each page. Thanks.

(The reason why I chose to keep the opera at the Psyché page was that it already contained the opera categories. There were no play categories, so I put those on the new article. Portia1780 (talk) 03:18, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Blanchardb, culling the links is a good thing, and I agree with the activity. A lot of people get defensive over which links should be on a page. However, the link I provided actually makes almost all other links redundant, itself being of more useful in allowing comparisons between the many versions. It has many versions of the bible on one site. Did you explore the link before removing it? If anything, links to other specific versions should be removed in favor of the unbound.com site. Check it out and let me know what you think. We can continue this conversation on the talk page if you feel there is merit. --Fcsuper (talk) 20:25, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't think this discussion should be only between the two of us, so I transferred it to Talk:Bible. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 23:00, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletions

In future could you please give articles 10 minutes? My second edit to the page Peters (bakery) was interupted by your slamming on the tag a mere minute after I began to write it.--Him and a dog 21:44, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Actually, this cannot be done. The New Pages page only gives me the latest 50 pages. You can insert the {{hangon}} tag if you feel you need a few minutes. I follow up on my tags, and sometimes I remove some of my own. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 21:47, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion of Isotx -- I see its gone now. I feel that it's a pretty notable company, it's been talked about in many magazines, it's won notable awards for its mod, and its producing pretty innovative combinations of genre. It could have been expanded a lot, but not deleted. InterfaceLeader23 (talk) 23:13, 10 January 2008 (UTC)InterfaceLeadr23

The speedy deletion criterion by which your article was deleted was Significance not asserted, that is, one could not have determined, from the article, that it won major awards. This is an important thing to state for the sake of people not familiar with the company. And those who know about the company would like to know that too. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 23:21, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

The Global Standard Deity Deletion

I was wondering whether moving the GSD page to a place called "Global Standard Deity in the Thursday Next Novels" would save it. That means that it's obvious that it's not a religion. I have also made clear references to the novel's notability in contemporary fiction. Bonovoxpop (talk) 15:03, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

You can (and should) state your case in the AfD discussion. Personally, I do not think it will make much of a difference, as we are talking about what is pretty much an in-universe concept. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 15:05, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

City Opera of Vancouver

Thanks for taking an interest in this article. I would be MOST grateful were you able to 'wikifi' the piece with appropriate references to www.cityoperavancouver.com, the Globe and Mail article cited, and the Categories suggested.

When I contributed two earlier essays, on Marty Paich, and on Alexander Siloti, some while back, it all seemed a good deal easier at that time.

I appreciate any help you might offer to bring this into conformity with current best practises at Wikipedia.

Merci bien, et salut,

Transwiki

You suggested: The article as it exists now would be more appropriate for Wikisource than Wikipedia. Later in the {{afd}} you seemed to be complaining that I ignored your suggestion.

It is true, I did not respond to your suggestion. Frankly your suggestion was vague, seemed like a toss-off, one which didn't seem to merit a serious response because it didn't seem to be a serious suggestion.

If you were offended that I didn't give you a serious reply, let me give one here.

No offense, but my understanding of wikisource is that it is intended to hold whole documents, or single excerpts of longer source documents, that are at least one large paragraph in length. My understanding of the use of wikisource is that single wikisource articles are not intended to hold multiple excerpts from multiple source documents.

Can I ask how much experience you have using wikisource, contributing to wikisource?

I have made close to 700 edits there. I thought I had an idea of what material belonged there, and what belonged here. Frankly, my idea of what to put on the wikisource continues to evolve, as I become more experienced there. But it hasn't come anywhere near your vague suggestion.

If you think you have a specific suggestion as to how to fit that material on the wikisource, by all means spell it out. 700 edits there makes me a relative newbie. Maybe I have something to learn from your suggestion. Geo Swan (talk) 17:27, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Actually, my suggestion goes hand-in-hand with a comment I just saw in the AfD:

Comment: Forgive me if this sounds like nitpicking, but your style of commenting makes the reading of this discussion more difficult and confusing than it needs to be. Using a bullet point for each and every statement is unnecessary and, frankly, distracting. AfD discussions normally have bullets only for major points, i.e. “Delete,” “Keep,” “Comment,” etc., so your extra bullets only serve to make your comments more difficult to follow and understand. Respectfully, —Travistalk 15:30, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

I believe this perceived problem with your writing style is at the root of all the problems with your article as well. The article looks like it has been taken directly out of a CIA internal report, hence my suggestion to transwiki.
You do not need to repeat, for every entry, The Summary of Evidence memo (...) alleged or The detainee was identified as... To make it look like an encyclopedia article, or a list for that matter, all you need to say is something like, "Bensayah Belkacem is believed to be the primary al Qaida facilitator in Bosnia (ref)." That's it. Nothing else. Anything you add in the lines of what's in the article right now will only make it harder to read. Any other information can be found in the article about the individual detainee.
Moved to a list or not, you should definitely write an introduction stating what the article is about. Such an introduction cannot constitute original research, as I think you fear, simply because it is not research at all. Remember, the introduction should be intended for people who know little or nothing about the whole matter.
Hope this helps. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 17:50, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Your suggestion to transwiki, while no doubt honestly intentioned, was poorly advised.
Not giving me a courtesy heads-up, on my talk page, that, instead of replying to my note on Talk:al Qaida faciliator you were going to nominate it for deletion, was the kind of lapse from normal courtesy we should all work to avoid. This kind of lapse from normal courtesy puts an unfair burden on our correspondents, because it calls on them to make the effort to assume good faith in the face of behavior that could easily be interpreted as serious bad faith.
Your comments about my editing style would be a lot easier to appreciate -- if it were offered in the proper venue. My talk page, or Talk:al Qaida facilitator would have been good choices. Comments about editorial choices are simply out of place in an {{afd}}. Because perceptions that some passages in an artilce contain lapses in spelling, grammar, organization, are simply not grounds for deletion. Let me suggest that when you make comments like these in an {{afd}} you are unnecessarily imposing a burden on your correspondents as they try to assume good faith in the face of behavior that could easily be interpreted as serious bad faith.
As I noted in the {{afd}} many of the other particcomments were contrary to policy, or to the excellent advice in WP:ATA. There were some serious comments, which I did my best to address.
WRT the quoted material needs a sentence to set the context -- I receive comments 180 degrees the reverse of yours. I am going to repeat that this editorial comment is not a valid reason to initiate a nomination for deletion.
Candidly,

Ouin

Hi, you placed a prod on the article Song Destinations. If you still believe this one should be deleted, you may want to bring it to AfD as the user was contesting a similar prod I put on another of their pages and there does seem to be precedent for keeping such articles. I'm sorry, i don't, but i do know for a fact that on the bridge, there IS a bus service, it's the #55 from Saint-Lambert wich i use daily to go to school. I'M going to put information on it... The bus window is too dirty to get its pic taken. --Party (talk) 02:07, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Did I do this right?

Did I do the hangon tag right? I'm kind of new to editing Wikipedia. I added to the article and it has an external link to a copy of the script on Google book search. Thanks, Aggiew (talk) 02:23, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

It would have been right if I had requested a speedy deletion, which is not the case here. The {{hangon}} tag is only for speedy deletions. I take it you contest the proposed deletion, so all you have to do is remove the tag, but be aware that another process, Articles for Deletion may be initiated. I will not initiate it for the time being, to give you some time to edit the article so that the play's notability can be asserted. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 02:28, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

My Country is My Love

I did translate it into English. The reason it was in Estonian was that it was to be the frame of the page where to start the translation and page build-up. Karabinier 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Actually, you can remove the translation tag yourself as soon as you're done. I see that that's what you did. I inserted the tag quickly because, as it happens often, people insert pages in foreign languages then simply abandon them. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 01:19, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

"Containerart" edit

Hello: I listed ContainerArt and saw it was proposed for deletion as "non notable event". I only put a few esternal links and one pubblication to support it. There are several other external links that mention ContainerArt expecially in Italy. Would adding them resolve the tag? Also: About 90 contemporary artists participated so far. Would a list of these artists resolve the issue? Finally, before proposing it for deletion have you actually reviewed the associated links in order to determine relevancy? I notice you are from Canada, and this is an event that has mostly been held in Italy All the best Borsalino —Preceding unsigned comment added by Borsalino (talkcontribs) 09:26, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Containerart is listed at Articles for Deletion, so if you want to make your case, that's where you should go. Please note that the final decision is not mine to make.
As far as my opinion goes, you should know that since the article states none of what you said without having to browse through external links, it is as if one were not supposed to know any of this. Just adding external links is not enough to save the article from deletion: you have to write the article in such a way that one would know the essential of what those links say without having to click on them. Who are the most famous among the artists participating? (We don't need to know the names of all 90 of them.)
For more information, you may want to familiarize yourself with Wikipedia guidelines on notability. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 12:02, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi there

Hi there, first I think you are doing a great job patrolling new pages. However as a fellow new page patroller can I offer a couple of suggestions? First, after you patrol a page click "mark as patrolled" so others will know you have patrolled it (Wikipedia:New pages patrol/patrolled pages). Also, a couple of the pages you marked for "notability" I think were really candidates for speedy deletion (e.g. Subkips, freequal) Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion. Anyway that's just my opinion, have a great day!! laurap414 (talk) 02:17, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks!

I'd forgotten what the link to the new template was. I Googled the text and it came back as having belonged to a record company; I threw on that speedy just as a temporary measure. Thanks for letting me know. Regards, --PMDrive1061 (talk) 22:36, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

DB-cut-and-paste template

If you think this would save you time and effort, by all means, I'll sign off on it. I can't say that this one comes up frequently in my experience of pages tagged for speedy deletion, but it does come up every couple of days -- and probably the reason why I don't experience it personally more often is that I lazily tend to pick the low-hanging fruit of obvious pages to delete. At any rate, it seems logical, useful and time-saving; I'm for it. If there's something I can do to help you with this process any further, or a specific place for me to register my approval, just let me know. Accounting4Taste:talk 04:12, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
