Speedy deletion nomination of Black women and the prison system
[edit]Do not create articles about living people that are entirely negative in tone and unsourced. Wikipedia has a policy of verifiability and any negative information we use must be reliably sourced, and our articles must be balanced. Negative, unreferenced biographies of living people are not tolerated by Wikipedia and are speedily deleted. Under section G10 of the criteria for speedy deletion, the page has been nominated for deletion. Users who continue to create or repost such pages and images in violation of our biographies of living persons policy may be blocked from editing.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The article Black women and the prison system has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Page reads as an essay/original research. Needs to be written in an encyclopedic tone, may also be better as a section in Race in the United States criminal justice system
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. RickinBaltimore (talk) 14:03, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
Comment
[edit]Whatever your views, you must abide by our policies
- You must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that your topic meets the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the topic, press releases, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what people claim or interviewing them. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls
- You must write in a neutral and encyclopaedic tone. Your article is a one-sided set of unsourced opinions
- the article was created in a single edit without wikilinks or references, and looks as if was copied from an unknown and possibly copyrighted source. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.
- If you have a conflict of interest when editing this article, you must declare it. That means if you are writing on behalf of an organisation rather than on your own behalf. In particular, if you work directly or indirectly for an organisation, or otherwise are acting on its behalf, you are very strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly. Regardless, if you are paid directly or indirectly by an organisation, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Black Women and The Prison System. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Black Women and The Prison System|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If you are being compensated, please provide the required disclosure. Note that editing with a COI is discouraged, but permitted as long as it is declared. Concealing a COI can lead to a block.
Before attempting to write an article again, please check that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and make sure that you can find independent third party sources. Also read this guidance.
Please read no original research, this isn't the place to post your thoughts or essays
I considered soft blocking this account, but I'm not sure that it actually infringes our guidelines. Nevertheless, you might want to consider creating an account with a less loaded name
I also considered speedy deleting the article as original research, but I've left it for now since you may want to try to salvage it or use it as a source to add referenced text to Race in the United States criminal justice system. If the article stays, it will have to be renamed anyway, since it appears to be exclusively about the US, not prison systems in general (other countries exist!)
If you have any questions, let me know. Also, if you want to start again from scratch using YFA, let me know and I'll delete what is probably doomed text anyway

Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Black Women and The Prison System, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to User:Black Women and The Prison System/sandbox have been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Adam9007 (talk) 22:58, 3 August 2017 (UTC)

Class project?
[edit]Hi there,
It looks like you may be contributing to Wikipedia as part of a class assignment. If so, could you respond below this message with the name of your instructor and university (and any other information you want to provide)? I would love to get some information to your instructor about the many resources available to help both instructors and students working on Wikipedia. There are printed brochures, interactive training modules, technical tools, and even staff support. If the university is in the United States or Canada, you may want to check out the website for the non-profit I work for, wikiedu.org. If the university is outside that area, there are people all over the world in the Wikipedia Education Program that I can connect with your instructor. Thanks -- and thanks for contributing to Wikipedia! --Ryan (Wiki Ed) (talk) 14:19, 7 August 2017 (UTC)
