Conflict of Interest policy
[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! I appreciate your efforts to make constructive edits (for example, at Stampede Trail), but you should know that your edits to Odessa, Texas, appear to constitute a violation of Wikipedia's policies about editing while under a conflict of interest, given that your user page announces that you are a "partner in a movie theater and family entertainment center business based in Texas." This page is a shorter, simpler summary of those policies; the central idea is that editors should not make edits that affect Wikipedia's coverage of topics to which the editors have financial connections, since this inevitably means that your work will be colored by your interest in the success of your business. If you feel confident that something you want to add to an article about your business really is neutral and informative, then you should go to the article's talk page and request that someone else make the edit, so that a neutral party can assess the merit of the change. I'll also add that Wikipedia has a core policy about what we call "notability" governing what content should or should not be included in the encyclopedia. If you think that this cinema and entertainment complex is really a "notable" topic that people need to know about, then there should be multiple independent published sources (newspapers, magazines) that talk about the topic with a substantial depth of coverage that can be cited to support the claims made in our article. If you can provide those sources and request an edit from a neutral editor, then this content may be able to go back in.
I hope this doesn't seem too complicated! If Wikipedia is to stay useful to everyone, then we can't have every business piling in to add favorable coverage of themselves to our articles; Wikipedia is not a platform for marketing, and its value comes from its neutrality. Thanks for understanding, and please keep editing! -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 13:10, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Odessa, Texas. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you.
