Information icon Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Layout hunting. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. —MelbourneStartalk 09:12, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Are you an expert on Layout boat hunting? If not than you don't understand the article. It is well written with "to the point" images and external links that are only used as references. Please be more precise in your criticism. This article is written from a professional person knowledge of the sport spanning 48 years and is very accurate. Links where add to improve citation errors on the page. Bigwater59 (talk) 09:40, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did at Layout hunting, you may be blocked from editing. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. Wikipedia does not include Amazon shop links for books cited. I think that's the only point being made above, from your previous such edit. Belbury (talk) 09:55, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The book cited in the references is over 150yrs of experience in the sport of waterfowl hunting and is enjoyed by hunters both novice and expert. If someone is looking to join the sport this book would be of great benefit to them. I have no relationship to the authors or any attachment to the book other than knowing it a great learning tool for hunters and that is a great reference. Whether it is on Amazon or not it is the best place to obtain the book to increase your knowledge of the sport. Bigwater59 (talk) 10:03, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure it's a great book, and I've left it mentioned in the "Further reading" section. It's just against Wikipedia policy to include direct links to Amazon. --Belbury (talk) 10:19, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What is your association to Wiki? Because you sound a lot like a troll who doesn't really have any association to waterfowl hunting. 162.197.55.236 (talk) 11:25, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a Wikipedia editor. Is that question from Bigwater59 or an unrelated IP address? --Belbury (talk) 11:30, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I checked and your not an official editor for wikipedia which makes you a troll. If you don't have anything useful to contribute to the subject of "layout boat hunting" then please leave the page alone. 162.197.55.236 (talk) 11:46, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You or Bigwater59 don't own the article on Layout hunting, you do not have a monopoly on knowledge either. Anyone can edit Wikipedia on whatever topic they feel like. You aren't the gatekeeper. Belbury is an "official Wikipedia editor" (as am I, as is anyone who edits Wikipedia...), so how you believe you've "checked" this out differently is neither correct nor relevant. If you continue to go against Wikipedia's policies - like spamming Amazon links, or assuming ownership of articles - chances are you won't be editing on Wikipedia for much longer. —MelbourneStartalk 03:06, 30 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you use Wikipedia for promotion or advertising, as you did at Layout hunting. —MelbourneStartalk 04:04, 30 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks but I am the original author of this page. Just doing a little work to keep it up to date. Bigwater59 (talk) 00:44, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Bigwater59, please read Wikipedia:Ownership of content. Once you put something out there, anybody and everybody has a right to edit it. Also, we have the 3R rule, meaning that if you or anyone else reverts the same content 3 times, the result could be a temporary block on your editing. Wikipedia:Edit warring. In the next section, you should see a link to the Teahouse. I encourage you to keep them in mind - those people exist to help new editors like yourself. — Maile (talk) 01:19, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
