End of year rant (I feel entitled...)

Happy New Year, Bugs!

But you sure know how to take all the joy out of reading a Watchlist {I'm thinking of making this into the last 2023 entry onto WP:Arbitrators' Noticeboard/No Fun

User talk page archives

Hello, Baseball Bugs,

I don't understand why you move your talk page archives around so there are redirects like User talk:Baseball Bugs/Archive028/Archive024/Archive017. These make no sense at all and serve no purpose. You have over 300 user talk pages! Would you consider tagging some or all of these twisted redirects CSD G7? Thank you and Happy New Year's! Liz Read! Talk! 00:06, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Prematurely closing discussions

Hello Bugs, I know you're a respected long time editor at WP:RD. So I'm wondering why you reverted my edit, contrary to how I understand our Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. What guideline is your action based on? ◅ Sebastian Helm 🗨 09:18, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In your edit, your edit summary was “WP:DENY” . But there are two things wrong with that:

  1. WP:DENY is just an essay, which prominently begins with a warning that it is not a policy or guideline. Even if you didn't read that, a long time editor such as you should know well that essays in no way invalidate existing guidelines. So please read, understand and follow the immediately relevant guidelines, at least in this case Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines#Marking a closed discussion.
  2. Even if WP:DENY were a policy or guideline, it doesn't apply: As it clearly explains in its lede, it applies only to edits that are “interrupting and frustrating the Wikipedia project and community”. That is obviously not the case when a topic gathered entirely constructive edits by other editors.

Since I follow Don't_re-revert, I won't be reverting your revert. But I'm asking you to please revert that revert of yours. ◅ Sebastian Helm 🗨 10:37, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I brought this up at AN. ◅ Sebastian Helm 🗨 18:04, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invalid and unnecessary disambiguation page per WP:ONEOTHER.

Take me out to the ballgame

Take Me Out to the Ball Game has other lyrics that I didn’t know about. And the first section has lyrics that sound very suggestive.

I saw your name and thought you might know something or someone who could explain this. Thanks! MasNuisance (talk) 21:43, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestive how??? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots22:33, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind. The juvenile in me saw “Katie blew” and that was it. And now I got “What’s up doooooooock” in me head. MasNuisance (talk) 16:19, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Right. The original lyrics writer said, "Every sou, Katie blew." The term "sou" referred to a low-denomination French coin. The public might have known what it meant in 1908, but it's obsolete now, in English anyway. "Blew" as in "spent", possibly as in thrown away or spent foolishly. Still a common expression. When Carly Simon recorded the song for Ken Burns' film about baseball, she changed the lyric to, "Every cent, Katie spent." It broke the rhyme with a followup line, but at least it made sense to a modern audience. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots18:37, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What is this guy's problem? --Viennese Waltz 07:21, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, he's accused me of threatening national security as well, although I'm struggling to think what I might have done in that regard as I'm not even an American. He also seems to think that we are both admins. Go figure. --Viennese Waltz 13:34, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, never had any interest in that side of things. Happy to just chip away at the RD and make minor improvements to articles from time to time. Best, --Viennese Waltz 07:32, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion

Hi, I had to delete this edit you made the other day, as it was in the middle of a large block of VXFC (banned user) text. Apologies for that, --Viennese Waltz 17:56, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ref desk repeated warnings

I have asked you repeatedly over the years to take more care in your comments on the ref desks. You have been brought up at ANI previously for potential bans from the desks. This is to inform you that I intend to bring this to ANI again (despite your self-imposed ban, which I do genuinely appreciate) if you do not finally take responsibility for your posts, and if you do not restrict your top-level answers to those supported by relevant citations and articles, per the reference desk guidelines.
