killing of floyd -- chauvin kneels on neck
Hi,
You reverted my edit of this section before I managed to find a way to upload the transcript to commons. I do see that the time 00:10:10 is relative to when Keung turned on his bodycam.
As to why it's relevant, it is the first time Floyd said "I can't breathe" and it is interesting that at that time he was standing up. I don't claim to understand the full significance of that but it means that some part of the meaning of the phrase refers to something that was happening when he was standing up.
Can you help me figure out what to do with this? It did seem important to get the first statement chronologically there. Also it might be part of the officers' motivations in not getting off him if they thought (incorrectly or whatever) that he was referring to something else. Curious what you think of this Createangelos (talk) 22:32, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Createangelos: Hi there, and thanks for discussing this. It seems that the transcripts have been available for a while,[1] even if the actual video was just released. To avoid WP:OR, you would at least need a reliable source that specifically notes that specific quote, preferably one that provides some comment about it's significance. Generally, we should not be analyzing video or having to assess the actual time it happened. Bear in mind that per WP:ONUS, we don't necessarily include something just because it is true. Ultimately, there needs to be consensus. If you have other ideas, feel free to discuss at the article's talk page. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 02:02, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
- Wow, nice answer (better than I expected, essentially ideal). It sounds like things are well in hand, I hadn't realized I don't need to upload the transcript to commons. I guess I'll leave it for now. I think I was viewing the transcript as a source, and wanting to incldue something about it (eg a summary), and the first occurrence of 'I can't breathe' seemed to summarize it. I do see now that a primary source is not a source.Createangelos (talk) 08:13, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Createangelos: Yes. There's a lot of editors with different viewpoints on his death, so there is higher scrutiny when any given quote is included. An objective way is showing that reliable sources deem it significant. Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 08:29, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

IP range block
Hey. Could you please consider a range block for IP 2607:FCC8:B10B:5F00... [2] [3] [4]. They have been vandalising NBA player stat tables. Thanks. DaHuzyBru (talk) 02:48, 18 July 2020 (UTC)

I got a message saying something I wrote didn't meet Wikipedia standards.
I did not see any mention of what specifically was the alleged infraction - it would be helpful to know, and maybe there is some easy way to find out, but I am not aware of it. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:8C0:427F:2840:B9F3:D972:9146:5A16 (talk) 04:50, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry about that. Your weight changes to Karl Malone and Antoine Carr were not supported by the basketball-refernce.com link in the infobox.—Bagumba (talk) 05:17, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
Cool - thanks for the quick response. Just to clarify, the heights and weights listed by basketball-reference.com are mostly measurements from college just before the player entered the pros. Many of them are not accurate for the players' actual playing career. All of the sports reference websites are run by private individuals and are *NOT* any kind of official authority on anything (nor do they claim to be, to my knowledge). They are awesome websites, for sure, but they have their limitations.
Karl Malone was indeed listed as 256 pounds by the NBA and the Utah Jazz throughout his entire professional career. That is well documented. I would humbly submit that the NBA and the Utah Jazz are more authoritative on this subject than basketball-reference.com. In fact, I would bet the guys who run basketball-reference.com would agree with me on this. I would presume that Wikipedia wants to be as accurate and close to the truth as possible, and the undeniable truth is that Karl Malone was officially listed at 256 pounds throughout his entire career by organizations who are actually authoritative on the matter. I would suggest listing Karl Malone at his true listed weight of 256 pounds, and we could add one or two references for clarification, if necessary. And similar for Antoine Carr, obviously. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:8C0:427F:2840:B9F3:D972:9146:5A16 (talk) 05:57, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
- The main issue with those edits are that they were not verifiable; a reader does not know where the measurement can be verified because you did not leave a citation. A secondary issue, which can be discussed at WT:NBA, is how do we resolve conflicting sources. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 13:02, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
I will add citations for the accurate weights. Agree that conflicting sources is always a concern, but in the case of Karl Malone, that won't be an issue, as he was always listed at 256 pounds by every reputable source during his time in the league. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:8C0:427F:2840:14D7:C78E:11EF:21BF (talk) 19:14, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
- FYI, there is
|weight_footnote=
for {{infobox basketball biography}} that is a bit more elegant for notes on weight. I already changed Antoine Carr (someone had contested your Malone edit).—Bagumba (talk) 05:08, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing that - it totally looked terrible the way I did it, but I didn't know how to do it the right way. Good to know that now. What does the "contested" edit about Karl Malone mean, then? Is there seriously somebody who doesn't believe that Karl Malone was listed at 256 pounds? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:8C0:427F:2840:14D7:C78E:11EF:21BF (talk) 05:28, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
And should also mention...
Please add insertion of succeeding bracketed remark to what you sent me, which is what I did (now deleted). OK, I shouldn't put that back in, but I did avoid deleting or editing the existing remark. Carlm0404 (talk) 02:45, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
- Carlm0404, I believe brackets are appropriate for WP:REDACTing your own edits, but not someone else's. Also, your comment wasnt signed, so nobody would know it was from a different editor from the original. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 03:37, 20 July 2020 (UTC)

- Regarding the header, my earlier comments at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Football_League/Archive_18#Headers_for_seasons still stand. If you read them, my expectations are clear. If you have an improvement, it's probably best to explain it back at WT:NFL and get others' feedback as well. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 14:21, 18 July 2020 (UTC)
- I believe that putting First-Team All-Pro in 2019 can be put into context if "Second-Team All-Pro" is used in 2018. If he ever gets another All-Pro in a future season, it could say "Second First-Team All-Pro" or "Second Second-Team All-Pro". Another possibility is to put 2018 as "First All-Pro", 2019 as "Second All-Pro", and future seasons as "third [or fourth, etc.] All-Pro" DeathTrain (talk) 14:33, 18 July 2020 (UTC)

An IP keeps removing sourced “personal life” section that he is the son in law of congressman Jim Jordan (and from Jordan’s article too). You gotta do something with his article - he’s on the recent deaths list and the news is all over Twitter (Northern Arizona basketball account confirms the death). George Floyd's protests
I enjoy reading your Wikipedia articles, and they're very informative and interesting. However, there is some misinformation regarding the death of George Floyd. I don't know if you were able to view the "leaked" bodycam footage, but I did view it, and it's definitely a shocker. His death had absolutely nothing to do with racism, or police brutality. I understand that's what the BLM, the MSM, the Leftists, and the Democrats want people to believe. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind, if we can work together to truly expose the BLM? I've been watching them since 2013, and they've become drunk with political power. I think that with the way that you eloquently describe your articles, and with the data that I had collected; I think that the page would be fantastic. Please let me know what you think. Thank you for taking the time to read this comment, and I hope that we can work together on some articles together. LadyGoth1 (talk) 12:12, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
- @LadyGoth1: Welcome to Wikipedia. See Talk:Killing of George Floyd/FAQ#Q2. Change/Reversion to George Floyd Article
@Bagumba: We seem to have a problem here, and I'm not convinced that the problem is me. For about the third or fourth time an addition I've made to the main George Floyd article has been reverted. Frankly, this appears to be an attempt to stifle certain information regarding Floyd himself which, if that's the case, would constitute vandalism. On your reversion of my edit, you claim that I used "copyrighted material without the creator's permission." That material, however, was properly cited, which makes permission a non-issue. I intend to repost the material with the same citation as before and the caution that I am viewing these reversions as not in good faith and borderline POV violations. Not a threat. I'm just saying that the persistent resistance to changes to this article which may be viewed as less than favorable toward Mr. Floyd are clearly not in keeping with the neutral, factual purpose of Wikipedia. Mikerrr (talk)
- Citing a source does not entitle you to plagiarize. Per WP:COPYOTHERS:
Therefore, it is legal to read an encyclopedia article or other work, reformulate the concepts in your own words, and submit it to Wikipedia, so long as you do not follow the source too closely.

Quoting a source appears to be perfectly fine - as it has historically been for many decades. So, rather than simply adding quotation marks, you chose to revert my entire edit AND delete (I'll figure out how you did that eventually. . . ) the previous version to make it more difficult to correct the missing quotation marks. Interesting approach and appears to be exactly in line with the suspicions I outlined above, to wit: POV bias, bad faith edits, and borderline vandalism. Bad form. And a clear case of edit warring which should be done on the Talk page - not by reverting edits. Clearly outlined in the policies. . . Whoa hang on there buddy
You reverted a sourced addition. Also, the use as a walk-up song for one player is not "signif baseball coverage" - that's every "trivial mention of its every playing" if I ever saw it. Also, the song was played, for years, as the New Jersey Devils took the ice at every home game. I didn't even add that tidbit originally, but someone else did and I knew it was factual, so I took the five seconds needed to find a source. Your wholesale revert was a bit over the top, no? Surely if I can take the time to source someone else's addition, you can take a minute to use Google rather than knee-jerk hit the revert button. JimKaatFan (talk) 18:17, 24 August 2020 (UTC)

If it's not clear (first pro season is for a team other than the one that drafted him) should it be indicated in the career history of the infobox like how it's done here? --DB1729 (talk) 17:12, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
- DB1729: I assume it was a conscious to not have included a

in this infobox, as opposed to overloading existing parameters with the info. Feel free to ask at WT:NFL. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 17:18, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

What's with the Reverts?
@Bagumba: - Hey Bagumba! What's with the reverts? My contribution contains no original research, and NPR used the Official medical examiner's toxicological report on George Floyd. It is important that this fact be in the beginning of the article as someone being on a fatal dose of Fentanyl as well as Methamphetamine and Cannabis, when being killed is very important. Feels like we have had this discussion a million times, do you have links to any later discussions than the one linked at the template documentation? An editor is pushing in it (also or baseball and college coach) so I am interested in linking any and all discussions. Thanks. Rikster2 (talk) 22:43, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
- Baseball and football dont list nationality, so a fair argument can be made to include US. For NBA, we're fairly consistent about listing nationality, so adding country is redundant in cases where it follows an already listed nationality i.e. American who is US born. Semi-related was Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style/Infoboxes/Archive_16#RfC_on_birthplace,_nationality,_and_citizenship_parameters_with_matching_values, which said dont add nationality if it duplicates a country in listed birthplace. NBA is different in the nationality is already there, but the spirit seems to apply of not duplicating it in birthplace if it wasnt listed there first. This one (or few) user needs to establish consensus with NBA editors for the global change, or establish a wider consensus via RfC, etc.—Bagumba (talk) 01:37, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

Your pulling the hook was total bullshit ^%$@!!! Cbl62 (talk) 03:11, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- Cbl62, I understand the frustration, but we should not have a hook while the content was removed from the article by the other editor. Let's get it stabilized and it can be reintroduced.—Bagumba (talk) 03:16, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- The content was wrongfully removed the article for by an editor with an agenda to have the hook removed. Pulling it was complete bullshit IMO. This was an amusing hook that self-identified as satire. Compared to the utterly boring crap that's normally posted at DYK, this was a breath of fresh, satirical air. I've never been as angry about something in 13 years on Wikipedia. I will now step back to let my blood pressure go down. Cbl62 (talk) 03:20, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
I do not appreciate Cbl62’s attitude and basically abandoning the standards of Did you know. Not to mention that his comments on my talk page was uncalled for. GamerPro64 03:44, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- GamerPro64, the content debate can continue at WP:ERRORS. The hook was pulled after posting, so I can sympathize with the venting. I've worked with Cbl62 before with no issues.—Bagumba (talk) 04:20, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- So after all that, you're still leading the opposition to the hook. May I ask why? Seriously. Cbl62 (talk) 11:43, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- Cbl62: I'm not sure what you mean by "leading". Others have expressed concerns about the hook before me both at WP:ERRORS and now WT:DYK. Others can chime in, and someone else will determine consensus. I supported the nomination being re-reviewed again. Is there something else you are asking from me?—Bagumba (talk) 12:01, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm asking "why"? Cbl62 (talk) 12:07, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Cbl62: The "why" is because we should not assume everything a publisher produces is worth mentioning unless other independent sources take notice. If BallIsLife.com produces a mix for a player, I wouldn't automatically expect it to see it mentioned on the player's page. At a minimum, I would expect to see coverage from other independent sources that establish why its notable. I personally don't rely on tweets and FB post to establish WP:WEIGHT. Others may see it differently. Let me know if you have further questions.—Bagumba (talk) 12:28, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- I thought you may have had a problem with the content. You've cleared that up. Thanks. Cbl62 (talk) 12:39, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

- Yes, I'm asking "why"? Cbl62 (talk) 12:07, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- The pulling of the hook last night obviously ticked me off. I don't get angry often, but this really got under my skin. I thought I had come up with perhaps my best DYK hook ever and was upset when it was pulled. In retrospect, it's kind of silly to get so upset over something like a DYK hook. It's always good to listen, and your calm explanation helped me to understand your point of view. I apologize for my harsh words and look forward to continuing to work with you in the future. Best, Cbl62 (talk) 22:54, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- Cbl62: We ask users to make bold edits and we operate on consensus. Users can either celebrate it, tolerate it, or loathe it—your stress may vary. On a somewhat related note, I once review an FA, where I objected to stats being pulled from a stats database which I believe provided an undue narrative compared to prose in reliable source. I didn't doubt the stats , but reliable sources don't mention them. If stats are true, but nobody mentions them, should Wikipedia? So I thought it was obvious to everyone that an FA shouldn't give undue weight from cherry-picked stats. The FA passed anyway. Welcome to crowdsourcing. Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 04:14, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
Are you able to delete redirects?
Someone created redirects for a few NCAA basketball seasons pointing to NCAA Division I. They create the illusion these articles exist instead of encouraging creation through redlinks, and the target doesn’t really help the reader who follows them. The redirects in question are 1973–74 NCAA Division I men's basketball season, 1974–75 NCAA Division I men's basketball season, 1975–76 NCAA Division I men's basketball season , 1976–77 NCAA Division I men's basketball season and 1977–78 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. It’s fine if you tell me it has to go through a discussion, although if that’s the case I just won’t be bothered. Thanks. Rikster2 (talk) 19:32, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi Bagumba, I hope all is well! How do I check to see the number of blocks a user has had and when they occurred? It’s been so long since I’ve checked and I can’t seem to remember. Thanks, Corky 04:34, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Corkythehornetfan: Going as well as anything these days. Haha. If you go to a user's contributions, there is a link there for "block log".—Bagumba (talk) 07:18, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Protect Bogdan Bogdanović (basketball)?
Pretty much anyone who is being traded should probably be protected. Some deals will be announced at the draft because they involve picks. Rikster2 (talk) 16:43, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

- @Matthewwith3teees: Your sources say they are in the process of "trading", but your edits are WP:OR, reflecting it as a done deal, i.e. "traded". Also, we typically should not use WP:RSBREAKING news sources attributed to anonymous source tips e.g. unnamed team officials, etc.—Bagumba (talk) 00:31, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
My apologies; I understand what you mean. I was mistaken thinking the article I found claimed it was official. I will find a reliable source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matthewwith3teees (talk • contribs) 00:33, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
