Hello. Will you please stop putting in 'length of time figures' at Monarchy of Australia. We don't do that on this project, as readers can do their own math. Thanks. GoodDay (talk) 02:36, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Goondiwindi Region

[edit]

While Lawrence Springborg is a member of the LNP, he did not win the Goondiwindi mayoralty as an LNP candidate but as an independent, so I removed your addition. This situation is quite common with local government elections in Queensland, where very few candidates run as a candidate of a political party (even if they are party members). Brisbane City Council is the exception where many candidates are running as an endorsed party member. So with local government elections, you need to check the electoral commission results to see if there is or isn't a listed party affilitation. I hope this helps. Information icon Hi Aydenholtonvlogs! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Myanmar that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. 25stargeneral (talk) 00:26, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I added the word "authoritarian" to the military junta in the infobox, no other additions have been made. If you'd like, I am able to revert the edit. Aydenholtonvlogs (talk) 00:30, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind, it has appeared that you have already reverted the page. Aydenholtonvlogs (talk) 00:32, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This message is about your use of the minor edit feature, which was not proper for that edit. Please read the above message and be sure to use the check box for minor edits only in the future. I will point out the message above says: Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you. 25stargeneral (talk) 00:36, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request to undo closure

[edit]

Hello, I dont think your close of History of the Jews and Judaism in the Land of Israel‎‎ was appropriate either in the reading of consensus or your non-admin closing of it. Your reasoning is based on a raw vote count, and we dont do that here. Beyond that, with 600 some edits, you are barely allowed to participate in such a move request, making the idea of you closing it with such little experience somewhat surprising. Would you mind reverting your close and allowing an editor with more experience reading consensus to do so? nableezy - 23:16, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's not just species, I've just been through the AfDs you started in the last week and speedy or WP:SNOW closed most of them. Please try to be a bit more thorough in your WP:BEFORE checks. Every new AfD is an extra drain on volunteer time. – Joe (talk) 07:07, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Aydoh8, I came here about your AFDs as well. Quite a few of the ones you started were immediately closed as Keep because you neglected to provide a thoughtful, policy-based deletion rationale. It's really not important whether or not you, Aydoh8, think an article is useful or interesting, articles are deleted because they violate some longstanding policy on content and sourcing, not because one editor doesn't find them useful. You are still an inexperienced editor so take more time considering whether or not an article should be nominated for a deletion discussion and, above all, slow down! Thank you. Liz Read! Barnstar!

[edit]
The Original Barnstar
For your efforts in countering new-user advertising/webhost violations and anti-vandalism. Wanted to make sure you know your work doesn't go un-noticed 😊 SPF121188 (talk this way) (my edits) 17:11, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I thought I should mention, the reason I didn't leave a warning for the editor was because it was a BLP violation so I just went straight to AIV to request a block. My preference, when it comes to WP:BLP violations, I don't always wait to go through the all 4 warnings. If it's a really serious violation, something that might need a rev/del then I go straight to the final warning and report to AIV. As long as you justify why you're reporting early then it's usually ok. The vandalism at the above article wasn't a serious BLP issue (but still not acceptable) so might skip the first warning and start with the second one.

I thought I should let you know in case you thought I wasn't bothering about the vandalism! Keep up the good work, Knitsey (talk) 06:10, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Aydoh8[contribs] 06:24, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Aydoh8,

Your closure was not an obvious outcome and so was not a good discussion for an NAC closure. Before it gets challenged, I would advise you to revert it. NAC closures should only occur for obvious, unanimous closures, not for close calls, which this was. I also didn't think there was a consensus to Merge so I'm not sure how you came to that decision. Liz Read! Talk! 06:41, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough. Aydoh8[contribs] 06:42, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Liz: I've reverted my edits and relisted the discussion under today's AfD log. Aydoh8[contribs] 06:45, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Baloch genocide this was also a bad closure. Please do not do any more. Liz Read! Talk! 06:57, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And I found another questionable closure you did tonight. Please, if you want to do NAC closures, only do ones that are unanimous. Believe me, you don't want to be taken to Deletion review, it can be a brutal experience. Editors there are not kind. Liz Read! Talk! 07:05, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

why extend an AFD when consensus is obvious?

[edit]

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of fossil sites Everyone said keep but the nominator, so it should've closed as keep. Why did you relist it? Ample participation and consensus has been reached. Dream Focus 14:48, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Dream Focus I do apologise, in hindsight I realise it was a bad move although I have rectified it. Aydoh8[contribs] 20:02, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Why did you do a non-admin closure of this discussion? I agree with the outcome, per my "keep" !vote, but there were three editors either advocating some form of removal (draftify/merge/delete) including the nominator, and there were four editors advocating keep or equivalent. That is not a consensus. I expect one will in time form around "keep," but it wasn't there yet and I believe this closure was inappropriate (and will likely waste the community's time on a deletion review if not reverted). As @Liz mentioned above, non-admin closures are not for close decisions. Dclemens1971 (talk) 03:36, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I must have missed those, sorry. Aydoh8[contribs] 03:50, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for reverting your close. I do think an admin has the prerogative to weigh and sift the contributions here and decide on "keep" without relisting (and I hope one does), but for a non-admin like you or me to do that with a numerically close !vote count involves exercising a level of discretion that the community has not entrusted to us. Dclemens1971 (talk) 03:58, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
True. I've tried to be careful lately. Aydoh8[contribs] 03:59, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can I ask why you sense a need to relist and/or close as many discussions as you do? It seems to me that the admins who work at AfD manage the flow pretty well. Dclemens1971 (talk) 04:07, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just to help clean up. I've been spending more time in other areas recently though. Aydoh8[contribs] 04:09, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've been a bit more conservative as of late regarding AfD. Aydoh8[contribs] 04:15, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I see you also do a lot of anti-vandalism patrolling which is much appreciated! Dclemens1971 (talk) 04:15, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah! I started patrolling RC a lot around six weeks ago, the things you see! Aydoh8[contribs] 04:17, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

[edit]

Hi Aydoh8. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or Ultraviolet. It just adds a [Rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision - that's all. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the rights will be revoked.
  • Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Fastily 02:28, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Question about the creator template to my signature

[edit]

Hi Aydoh8! I'm just wondering why you added the page creator template to my signature in the AfD. I already have it written on my user page that I helped create the 15.ai article, even though back then it was only a paragraph or two long. GregariousMadness (talk to me!) 02:17, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there!
The reason why I added the template is to help inform other users, in particular the closer, that you were the one who created the article, since most people don't go scouring users' pages. Aydoh8[contribs] 02:20, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see, no problem. I was just worried that someone was trying to undermine my argument – my recent interactions with editors lately... haven't been great and I was starting to doubt editors' good faith. I understand why you added it now. Cheers! GregariousMadness (talk to me!) 04:38, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You accidentally reverted Haken (band) to vandalism

[edit]

I just stumbled onto this debacle completely accidentally, from noticing the vandalism reflected in the respective artist page on YouTube Music. Evidently, instead of reverting the obvious vandalism by an anonymous coward and shameless recidivist vandal, you reverted the bungled attempt of a fellow wikipedian (not me) to do just that. A textbook revert to vandalism, it is. An honest mistake too, I trust, one you'd be eager to rectify yourself promptly.

I'm writing this on my work machine where I don't keep my login creds, so sorry for coming off as an anonymous coward myself; you can only take my word for that I do occasionally poke stuff around here as a fellow registered editor. No, you wouldn't guess who. Have a nice substantial period of time! 195.122.12.206 (talk) 17:59, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
First of all, I sincerely apologise for what's happened. I use a plugin called AntiVandal to quickly revert vandalism, and what appears to have happened was we both tried to revert at the same time, however your reversion must have been accepted by the system first, and my edit accidentally reverted yours as opposed to the IP's, which was not intentional.
I hope this helps. Aydoh8[contribs] 01:40, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's okay, I require no apologies since, as I already mentioned, I'm not Deusirl whose edit got struck (and I see my corporate VPN has rotated my IP, but I'm still the same person who wrote the above (still not Deusirl)).
More importantly, I also see that the article has been fixed by Martmakkie. Would've been great had they used the appropriate tool for the job, ideally blocking the vandal, like Jayhawker6 warned. Maybe that's something you could look into, as an authorized wikipedian, eh?
What matters most, though, is that the article is back to its unvandalized state. Have an additional nice substantial period of time! 195.122.12.203 (talk) 12:35, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Martmakkie is not an administrator so they don't have the technical ability to block users or IPs. There is a venue known as AIV (Administrator Intervention Against Vandalism) where editors/IPs can be reported however the IP looks to have gone quiet for now. The IP has been blocked several times before, with the most recent expiring on 1 November 2021. Aydoh8[contribs] 13:34, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm Deusirl. Sorry, I'm still new to being a contributor. But all is well that ends well! Deusirl (talk) 21:21, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
