Although some prefer welcoming newcomers with cookies, I find fruit to be a healthier alternative.

Hello, AugustusAudax, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like this place and decide to stay.

Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

Hi and welcome!

[edit]

Hi @AugustusAudax, thanks for joining the wikipedia editor community!

It's great that you're being bold and jumping right into improving articles.

I just reverted your edit to the hatnote on Life, but I wanted to encourage you to continue diving into edits and try not to be discouraged by the technicalities and policies that come up as you make your first edits. The policies are important, but it's a lot more important that you have fun.

One of the best ways to find articles that need work is to visit a WikiProject and look for tasks listed there.

Enjoy and feel free to reach out on my user talk page if you have questions!

American

[edit]

Please note that disambiguation pages like American are meant to help readers find a specific existing article quickly and easily. For that reason, they have guidelines that are different from articles. From the Wikipedia:Disambiguation dos and don'ts you should:

  • Only list articles that readers might reasonably be looking for
  • Use short sentence fragment descriptions, with no punctuation at the end
  • Use exactly one navigable link ("blue link") in each entry that mentions the title being disambiguated
  • Only add a "red link" if used in existing articles, and include a "blue link" to an appropriate article
  • Do not pipe links (unless style requires it) – keep the full title of the article visible
  • Do not include articles whose title is not easily confused with the disambiguation title; instead add {{in title}} to the See also section

Thank you. Leschnei (talk) 01:04, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hatnotes

[edit]

Hi AugustusAudax, I see you've been adding a number of hatnotes to high-profile articles lately. I appreciate your enthusiasm but I've reverted some of these additions and might revert some more. Just like with the above, there's no need to add hatnotes to distinguish articles that are not easily confused; Adam and Atom are sufficiently different that no such hatnote is needed and the same goes for India and Indiana. We don't have to account for any possible confusion a reader might have, just what is actually likely, and these articles especially already have plenty of necessary hatnotes so that adding unnecessary ones makes them take up a lot of space at the top of the article. In addition, there's also no need to add hatnotes for specific articles that are already covered by a general disambiguation page: e.g., Indiana Territory is already included in Indiana (disambiguation), so there's no need for a mention of it in the hatnote. I hope this helps Lennart97 (talk) 20:48, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stub-tagging Aglaonema modestum

[edit]

I noticed that you applied a stub tag to Aglaonema modestum. In general, articles on plants that contain a detailed description of the species are assessed as Start-class. The article's talk page also had it listed as Start. If you have any questions about assessing articles it is best to inquire at Wikiprojects' talk pages. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Blooket requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Blooket. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. David Heighway moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, David Heighway, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three, to be safe. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 13:24, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
