The article is valuable, as it helps so many indian language users. I would like to rewrite the couple of lines if they is an issue with the same. File:HCU Hyderabad Wikipedians Meet.jpg

[edit]

Sir, the file HCU Hyderabad Wikipedians Meet.jpg taken by you (which includes me and some of the Telugu Wikipedians) on 17.4.11 was uploaded @ Wiki Commons. It has been deleted now as a copyright violation ( see: . In case if you would like see this picture again, you can possibly make an "undeletion" request as you are the copyright owner of the picture. Regards, Hindustanilanguage (talk) 07:04, 8 August 2011 (UTC).[reply]

It may be easier to upload the file again with proper copyright info. I will do it in couple of weeks.--Arjunaraoc 08:45, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
Sir, when I originally uploaded the file, I gave your name as the copyright holder as well as the original link of the file where it was uploaded. One of the admins marked it for deletion because a note from your side about the file could be not uploaded. Further, my clarification that I am one of the persons in the photograph seemed to have no impact on the deletion request made by the admin. I therefore request you to kindly reupload the file with whatever clear copyright description that is needed here and please inform me about the same. Regards, Hindustanilanguage (talk) 06:20, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This page accidentally got put into CAT:CSD because it transcludes the speedy deletion templates, so I've nowiki-ed everything. I hope this doesn't keep you from using the page properly; if it does, something will have to be worked out to prevent it from appearing in the category all the time. This isn't meant as some sort of complaint against you; I simply don't know how else to say it, and I'm sorry because I'm not at all wanting to sound unhappy or angry. Nyttend (talk) 07:26, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem. As part of setting up twinkle on Telugu Wiki, I needed to import all the templates used by Twinkle and hence created this page. The task is completed and the page can be deleted if required. --Arjunaraoc (talk) 08:52, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Test english welcome by Twinkle

Hello Arjunaraoc,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Test english welcome by Twinkle for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. Take a look at our suggestions for essential content in short articles to learn what should be included.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, Gbawden (talk) 07:35, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:State Central Library, Hyderabad, Andhra pradesh.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:State Central Library, Hyderabad, Andhra pradesh.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. January (talk) 21:21, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:State Central Library, Hyderabad, Andhra pradesh.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Signpost write up

[edit]

Excellent write up. Wondering yours thoughts on the medical translation efforts [1]? The project has only translated 9 articles into Telugu [2] so far. We have also switched to short articles mainly. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 00:50, 26 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

User:Doc James, Thank you for your feedback. I looked at the spreadsheet that you shared, the links for Telugu are pointing to Hindi wikipedia. I noticed one article at https://te.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B0%9C%E0%B0%B2%E0%B1%81%E0%B0%AC%E0%B1%81 . The quality is very poor and needs cleanup. --Arjunaraoc (talk) 07:14, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The articles that have been translated as part of this initiative include the first 4 paragraphs of [3]
Yes thanks for pointing out the error in the table. I have fixed it and the links are now correct here [4]
With respect to the common cold article which aspects are poor?
Yes without people within Telugu Wikipedia directing efforts and being involved with integration of translated content things do not work as well as they should. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 16:56, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@User:Doc James I reviewed the Ebola article. The translation part is really poor compared to the already developed article that follows. The translation appeared to more sentence by sentence and grammatically incorrect at some places. The translation does not seem to have undergone any peer review. Regarding the "common cold" article, the translation again suffers from poor grammar, incorrectly formed wiki links at places for images. Telugu has decent popular medical science books and most newspapers and magazines regularly feature medical articles for common public. So for common medical problems, it is better that those resources are used rather than translating from the English original. For the emerging medical articles like Ebola, it is important that people who have good exposure to wiki and interest in medicine translate a free form version from the original with the main objective being readability. From my experience, Telugu with its current level of activity (100-200 50-100 active editors ( more than 5 edits a month)) is not in a position to support translations. As you have tried with various other languages, may be you have a better idea of the activity level of languages where the translation efforts are helpful.--Arjunaraoc (talk) 04:11, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hum. Sorry to hear. The translators are supposed to speak and write Telugu as a first language and speak English as a second language. Telugu only had 436 medical articles at the end of 2013 so there is definately a lot of content that is missing / not covered.[5]
Yes I do realize that it is a small community. In fact it appears to be around 50 or so editors per month. [6] Translation is going really well in Oriya and that Wikipedia is even smaller at about 15 active editors [7]. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 04:26, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The common cold content was added by User:Kvr.lohith so the project is getting some assistance from local editors. We do feel the lack of editors in all languages including English and of course all of Wikipedia is a work in progress. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 04:32, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

By the way am hoping to move some translators to this tool [8] in the hopes that it will decrease formating errors. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 04:49, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@User:Doc James, Thanks for your correction about the number of active editors. By mistake I put the count of people who edit atleast once a month. I have corrected the number in my previous comment. I noted your feedback with respect to other languages. BTW, I visited your home page and the quote of Theodore Roosevelt is very inspiring. Now that you are a member of WMF board, hope you can steer the initiatives towards more productive outcomes. --Arjunaraoc (talk) 05:27, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Arjunaraoc. Feed back from editors in other languages are key to helping me understand the issues they face. Thus I appreciate you taking the time to explain what works and what doesn't.
With respect to medical information do you think translation can play a role in Telugu? And if so how do you think it should work? Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 05:32, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@User:Doc James, As I have brought out in the Signpost article, Wikipedia's with small communities like Telugu are not able to support Translation efforts or leverage any such initiative for growth. As clarified in my earlier comment, for common medical problems, home grown articles are better as they can point to local resources. Till the community grows in strength to 500-750 people who make at least one edit in month, I think any initiatives directed at content would not be beneficial. So I would like the focus to shift to increase the reader base and resource base to enhance the size of community and capacity of community. One strategy that I considered when I was president of WMIN, but could not implement due to rejection of grant request by EIFL is by providing free kiosk like access to wikipedia in public libraries and educational institutions for 1-2 years and organising frequent basic training sessions to edit Wikipedias. The only effort of this nature that is close to my suggestion was tried 3-4 years back for some time was incorporating Wikipedia as a lesson in schools and providing support for training and editing wikimedia projects like Wikisource in Kerala state of India by Malayalam wikipedians. But there was no formal assessment of its impact til date. User:Shijualex or User:Viswaprabha may have more information.--Arjunaraoc (talk) 08:56, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hum. The WMF is not really set up to provide hardware to people to access the content.
I agree one of the keys is increasing the community size. I was hoping some of the translators would become editors. Some local editors were however involved in this this effort in Telugu. With the common cold article being worked on by Kvr.lohith
No one really knows how to build communities is the difficulty. These sorts of translation efforts to raise awareness regarding the existence of different languages and therefore might be bringing readers I do not know. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 06:18, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@User:Doc James, WMF need not do it alone. It was not setup to provide zero rating as well, but it did with partners. As several initiatives have been tried out,but none were largely fruitful so far. So I would like you to push the boundaries in your new role as WMF board member and not go with status quo. One or two people getting involved does not really say much about the impact. My signpost article is an attempt to through light on translation initiatives. It would be useful to replicate the study on other communities and come up with definitive report on what worked and what did not work. Then you will be able to move forward towards more productive outcomes. --Arjunaraoc (talk) 04:22, 6 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

[edit]

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

License tagging for File:Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar.jpeg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. What happened during transfer

[edit]

Hey. I was recently looking back at the Telugu wiki after remembering I suddenly recieved a welcome despite never going on the wiki, and I noticed that I seemed to have created the page for Template:No Internet (te:మూస:No_Internet). It seems you were transferring some templates over from the english wikipedia. I was curious though - how the hell did my edit history appear there? Was that a part of the process or did it just happen to bug when I fixed the formatting on the en wiki? (I noticed you had attempted to transfer over some templates from the english wikipedia around the same time). Personally, looking back at this scenario just confuses the hell out of me. Aidan9382 (talk) 11:41, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Aidan9382, I have no idea. Anyone visiting Telugu wikipedia, with original accounts from other projects, will have an account created on Tewiki automatically. A welcome message is placed on the new account talk page, by an editor of Tewiki which can be ignored if you are not editing Telugu Wikipedia. Arjunaraoc (talk) 11:54, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Aidan9382, I did some cleanup of the template and your edit is no longer present. Arjunaraoc (talk) 12:01, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh wow, what the hell. Huh. I'm just not gonna ask questions. According to the new result of my revision permalink, it was apparently of a deleted(???) version now. You also apparently magically imported it according to this snapshot of the history page, despite changing literally no content. Ill be honest, no clue whats gone on here. Thanks for the help anyways! Aidan9382 (talk) 12:14, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Aidan9382 Now I am getting a sense of what happened. I might have imported the template from enwiki, with all its versions. As you have made your account global recently, the version history got updated on tewiki. Arjunaraoc (talk) 12:18, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Diannaa, Thanks for your alert. I am in the middle of revamping all district article pages of Andhra Pradesh, as the districts were reorganised effective April 2022, and even after more than a year, the article was not updated properly. You can see more information about my activity at this page. I could not understand your reverting edit, as I have summarised content from https://cdn.s3waas.gov.in/s333e8075e9970de0cfea955afd4644bb2/uploads/2022/04/2022040612.pdf (page 11-13) and not https://web.archive.org/web/20161226004713/http:/www.anantapuramu.ap.gov.in/About.apo as stated in your reverting edit. There could have been similarity between the content you quoted and I used, as it is from the same source. The source I used is a primary source authored by the local government. As I have summarised the content, I do not think I violated the copyright. In case I have to paraphrase some parts of it more, I can do that If you can revert the edit. In view of the above, can you relook at your copyright warning. Arjunaraoc (talk) 22:28, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you could have a look at the CopyPatrol Report and click on the iTenticate link, you will see the overlap with the source that I mentioned. It's too closely paraphrased; in fact it's identical in places, which means we can't use it. Government works in India are copyright for 60 years from publication date. — Diannaa (talk) 00:06, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on List of National Highways in India by state. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Ajf773 (talk) 09:57, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable non-free use File:Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar.jpeg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.

Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:23, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve List of museums in Andhra Pradesh

[edit]

Hello, Arjunaraoc,

Thank you for creating List of museums in Andhra Pradesh.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Please consider adding sources to the museums and institutes that do not have a Wikipedia page. This will improve the article, and would be helpful in developing further articles on museums in that region.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Netherzone}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Request for draft expansion help

[edit]

@Arjunaraoc I am working on a draft User:Bookku/Indian sceptre in my user space. Several academic art historians have written about Indian sceptre (inc. historical Sengol) and I am trying to take note of observations mentioned in their books. But in most books they have given specific images first and they provided their observation and analysis so it is easier to their readers to co-relate their observations with respective images. Though images required for User:Bookku/Indian sceptre would be in public spaces but required one are not on Wikipedia commons. Your user profile seem to make me hopeful that at least you can relay a word in this regard and in longer run we would have some images that shall help fill gap in related Indian art history on Wikipedia.

Also I am looking for some draft expansion help from Telugu and Kannada sources if possible.

Regarding Eenadu and Sakshi

[edit]

I have come across your words about my edits and I believe there is nothing biased from my side on the edit part. Moreover, I made them neutral which they were not earlier. The entire edit of Sakshi page looks malicious and completely biased. Have you noticed that properly? May be not according to me. You are so worried about the image of Eenadu and not about Sakshi. Why So? Eenadu page was presented entirely neutral but that's not the case with Sakshi. So please go through it properly.

And regarding the images, there is nothing wrong to attribute. Even victory of Jagan Mohan Reddy is a news which was published in the Eenadu. What do u mean to say? Not to put Jagan's image on the front page for Eenadu Newspaper's image. That is not at all good on your part. So please don't come up with such versions. I know what I'm doing bro. Currently I am working on Wikipedia:WikiProject Andhra Pradesh/Assembly constituencies update - 2023 along with few other users where we are going to reach to the end very soon. I would like to request and invite you to take part in accomplishing small tasks that it could be a great help to the Wikiproject. Thank you. 456legend (talk) 05:37, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@456legend, Thanks for your request. i am unable to spend lot of time. I also have not been able to bring AP districts and district headquarters project that I initiated to a close, in part disturbed by uncooperative anonymous editors and lack of active participation from others. If there are some technical or graphic issues related, I will try to help. Arjunaraoc (talk) 06:34, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Arjunaraoc, can you please help in adding the coordinates on the follwing articles:
I am unable to identify the specific mandals and add the coordinates on these articles. Any help from you will be appreciated. Thank you 456legendtalk 13:03, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@456legend, There is no designated head quarters for an assembly consttuency. As the shape files are available, it is possible to generate the centre/centroid of the shape. I will have to work on it in QGIS software. Give me couple of weeks. Thanks. Arjunaraoc (talk) 09:29, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Thank you very much. 456legendtalk 10:31, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@456legend
For Gannavaram, Konaseema use location of P. Gannavaram 16.6131°N 81.8939°E
For others use the following Point on Surface values computing using the shape of constitutency in QGIS 3.28 with shape file of constituencies from my project at https://github.com/arjunaraoc/indiagisdata/blob/master/elections2019/elections2019.qgs
Let me know if you notice any issues. Arjunaraoc (talk) 13:05, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you 456legendtalk 18:15, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Arjunaraoc, is it possible for you to provide me with the data that is required for a .json file to create a map for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly constituencies before the 2008 delimitation order. I just need the .json file data for the pre 2008 assembly constituncies in order to create a raw template. Any help would be appreciated. Also I thank you for helping me with the coordinates of the assembly constituencies, It was very much helpfull to clearup the backlog. 456legendtalk 12:40, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@456legend, I tried to research. I could locate a source ( https://geodata.mit.edu/catalog/nyu-2451-34383) that could be useful, but I do not have access. Arjunaraoc (talk) 06:16, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thank you. 456legendtalk 06:18, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Andhra Pradesh

The article Andhra Pradesh you nominated as a good article has failed ; see Talk:Andhra Pradesh for reasons why the nomination failed. Regarding AP

[edit]

The info added by the users in the past lacked proper citations and it didn't mention the specialties of the state as well. You reverted the page to such improper edits. I request you to go through the edit done by me properly. No other edit is required about the state. If anything needed, you could add that. Chinnusaikrish (talk) 06:11, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand your actions. In order to revert or undone the edits you need to clearly state the misinformation provided by me or others. You simply stated that they lacked citations which can be added by you. But you didn't do that and completely reverted my edits and there was no proper explanation for that. The edits I did have proper and important information about the state. Moreover, they have a bit of extra information. But you still reverted those edits and there was no reply to me about that. What did you find so negative or wrong about those edits? I need a proper explanation about the sentences you found fault with or I will be complaining about this to the admins.Chinnusaikrish (talk) 06:53, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Chinnusaikrish, It would be good to discuss issues specific to an article at its talk page rather than on editor's talk pages, as it will encourage others to participate in such discussion. For this time, I am replying here. I request you to use the article talk pages in future, when the discussion is about a particular article.
I have worked extensively on the Andhra Pradesh article. I have submitted the article for peer review and addressed the comments provided. Here are the elaboration of my edit comment related to reverting your edit.
  • As per the discussion on article talk page, it is agreed to restrict the number of images in infobox to three, as infobox has lot of other content which needs focus. If you are interested in additional images, you can add in the relevant sections with enough explanation in the text.
  • The lead section is a short summary of the entire article. Directly adding content in the lead, when such content and citations are not first added in the relevant section in more detail is not correct and degrades the quality of the article. In your edits, you have also changed the official population numbers with citations of lesser quality.
You are welcome to collaborate constructively on improving the article, by following the wiki editing guidelines and using the article talk pages for discussion appropriately. Arjunaraoc (talk) 04:06, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Arjunaraoc You didn't follow my edits properly.
  • About the images of info box, I urge you to go through the images in the info box of other states as well. They all have as many as possible mostly more than 3 or even 4. So there is no question of restricting them only to Andhra Pradesh with less images. The images provided also are of less quality and not much vibrant. I don't understand your intention here. Your point of info box having much content doesn't apply to only this page as rest of the states too have the same content in their info boxes. Please go through them also.
  • The lead section of the page contains about water sharing disputes and other unwanted info which can be discussed in the respective sections but not in the lead. The lead doesn't mention properly about the regions and the specialties of the state in various segments. I provided many things about it. But you reverted all of my edits about these surprisingly. I don't understand your intention here too. I request you to refine but not revert entirely as I too share the same responsibility. That's the reason why I'm putting this here in your talk page.
You are also welcome to collaborate constructively on improving the article, by following the wiki editing guidelines and using the article talk pages for discussion appropriately. Chinnusaikrish (talk) 07:51, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Chinnusaikrish,
"Other state infoboxes are having lot of images", is not a valid argument to add more images in the Andhra Pradesh article. You would have seen that I initiated a discussion to reduce the number of images to three and implemented it, as there was support from other wikipedians. If you wish, you can initiate another discussion to increase the images and can implement the same, if there are no objections.
Regarding the lead section edit, it looks like you have not understood my clarification. I said that lead is a summary and if you want to edit it, you should update the content in other relevant sections. You can initiate a discussion on your objections and update the article based on the consensus.
I noted that you have again added your edits, while the discussion is still in progress. This is not a constructive and collaborative gesture from your side. Hence I do not have any other option but to revert your edits. Once again I ask you to initiate discussions on your objections on the article talk page. Thanks. Hi Arjunaraoc. Thanks for your thanks! from which I take it that you're happy to keep Godilanka as a redirect to the more appropriate article. Could you add a Comment to the AfD discussion saying so? it might help get it closed more promptly. Best wishes, Ingratis (talk) 06:54, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ingratis, Thanks for your feedback. I thought a stub article would be a better way of retaining it and created it based on the corresponding Telugu wiki article. I have also added a comment reflecting the same on AfD discussion. Arjunaraoc (talk) 09:36, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, OK - but that involves adding adequate sources - will you do that?Ingratis (talk) 09:38, 7 April 2024 (UTC) That looks fine! thanks. Ingratis (talk) 09:41, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Arujaraoc, noticed you have made many changes to the Guntur article, thanks for contributions. But you have yanked lot of useful information it seems, that were part of contributions for many many years. Please keep the article with enough information and updated. We really appreciate your inputs and contributions in this matter. Also I noticed you have removed the montage, the article does not look good without a proper montage. Please come up with a nice montage unless you can recover the previous one till you make a new one. Also the reason the photos of ancient scripts are kept with smaller size because to keep the article tidy, neat and at the same time relevant info. is kept. By just making those images of same size, makes the article not so appealing. Once you get a nice montage ready, please move the temple picture and the pics of sivalayam stone scriptures together in part of the History. Thanks again for your genuine contributions to Guntur City article. Gnt (talk) 13:05, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Gnt, Thanks for your feedback on revision to Guntur. I appreciate your special focus on improving Guntur article in the past. It appears, that you may have not read my notes about revision. After reading that, if you still like to propose any changes to the article, please discuss on the article talk page? Arjunaraoc (talk) 06:16, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Andhra Pradesh

[edit]

Hi, I won't disagree with your reversion of my recent edit, although I find it confusing. And inconsistent, as your bibliography spells out Pandipeddi Chenchiah and his wiki page P. Chenchiah refers to him as Chenchiah, so wouldn't it be "C., Pandipeddi"? Anyway, the three footnotes pointing to Pandipeddi are once again raising harv no-target errors, but I'll leave it to you to correct them. Cheers. Andy02124 (talk) 17:09, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, it is regarding recent arrangements. I believe we should be following WP:INCITIES, I see the "Culture" section above "Government/administration". - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:13, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Fylindfotberserk, Thanks for your feedback. I also thought about that, assuming that "Culture" section may refer to some adiministrative divisions. I did not find any such references in this article. So I moved it to follow "Demographics". I saw few examples cited in WP:INCITIES, but did not find consistency of section order. In Hyderabad and Mysore, I found "Culture" after "Economy", In Gangtok, I found several other sections between Economy and Culture. GA reviewer also had some suggestions, some of which I am not able to agree at this time. I am also introducing a new section called "Infrastructure" in this article. Based on the next GA review feedback, I will finalise the order of sections. I suggest to discuss such issues on the talk page of the article itself in future, as it will help others also track such discussions easily. Arjunaraoc (talk) 00:37, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Andhra Pradesh: Comments

[edit]

Definitely, the article seems to have seen a leap of improvement for better since the last time. My comments and views below. Please feel to incorporate as you please.
a. Citations:

  • Please WP:RSP, do not use unreliable or questionable sources.
  • Say, do not use TOI if there are alternates available
  • There are areas that can be worked upon; Say the entire paragraph on cuisine is from a single source, which does not seem to be accessible
  • As it is an article on the state, citations can be from the government. But better to see if there are non-primary sources such as for Andhra Pradesh state fibre net limited, Lacquer toys etc.
  • Britannica is a tertiary source, better to have a secondary source
  • Formatting: Please use the same name with links (say if The Hans is used, use uniformly and link it everywhere)

b. General points:

  • Sections which seem to be stat book E.g. second para of healthcare, parts of banking seem to have only data points expanded into lines
  • Do not start sentences with numbers (e.g. 62% population, 10778 RSKs, 1000 government schools and many more)
  • Consistency in numbers (e.g. 62% in lead, 62.17% in the body)
  • Mention of single digit numbers in words (across article, numbers are used)
  • Consistency in tense (everything has to be in one tense). E.g. It cannot be in multiple tenses (Present - Andhra Pradesh is ranked at 13th spot in the sixth edition of Khelo India), (Past - It was ranked 21st in the competition.), (Present participle - Visakhapatnam has been declared). Everything past happening should be in uniform tense.
  • Use dates wherever applicable (e.g. It has a fleet strength of 11,098 buses and a staff count of 49,544; BSNL operates 1,310 telephone exchanges with 2.06 crore land line connections and also has 53.998 lakh wireless subscribers; when?)
  • Do not use past dates as future. E.g. Automation of driving test tracks in nine district capitals is expected to be completed by 31 March 2023. It has elapsed already.

c. Lead:

  • Second para should end with the independence and formation of Andhra
  • Do not start sentences with numbers (e.g. 62%)
  • The third and fourth paragraphs may be better phrased for coherence. It seems to be a mere collage of sentences.
  • The first part on geography: It should start with the broad geographical divisions of coastal + rayalaseema. Coastal has been expanded, R.seema can be later expanded with description of peneplains.
  • Before moving abruptly to agriculture, start with major part of economy is .. on agri, which contributes to 62%.
  • Automotive is not part of the previous major industries but has sprung up, 10% is not significant and hence it is better to mention as part of previous line and not throw too much random data points.
  • I think the coastline part can move to third paragraph or at least find a mention to lead into fish and shrimp cultivation
  • In the last para, composers is again vague. Better to put that Carnatic music originated here or something to do with the actual culture and add the names if need be
  • Mention about religion and then Tirupati temple (say xxx is the major religion +...)
  • Unique products are GIs? If so, would be better to state so.

d. Content: There are areas which seems to lack coherence/flow or sentences jutting out. Also, there seems to be a recency bias. E.g.

  • Statements Jutting out: E.g. In highways section, you talk about road length. Suddenly there is a statement about NH 544D, not sure why that specific NH and what is its relevance.
  • Recency bias: E.g. In the airport section, why is growth of 2022 (which covers almost half of the section specifically relevant? Sports largely covers only medals won in recent events, same with politics.
  • Sections that can be expanded: History on politics, history of transport say aviation or rail, Sports: traditional sports, sports facilities and key events hosted...
  • Need complete picture: e.g. in communication, is there only BSNL providing service in AP? "Following the bifurcation, disputes with Telangana regarding the allocation of Krishna and Godavari continue to dog the state" is vague. What is the impact and when was it? "Veligonda project, Annamayya project" what are these?

Hope you find these useful. Thanks! Magentic Manifestations (talk) 11:12, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Magentic Manifestations, Thanks for your detailed feedback. I will wait for a week to see whether any reviewer picks up the article to address them along with GA review. Otherwise I will update separately. Arjunaraoc (talk) 00:35, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
