13:25:55, 13 October 2014 review of submission by KAndrea16

Hi Anup, so I'm editing the Qadabra Self-Serve page based on this product and I want to know what kind of web content you would consider "notable" or "verifiable" aside from newspapers, journals, scholarly writing...like Facebook is not...but what about Crunchbase? What other kinds of articles, platforms? -KAndrea16 (talk) 13:25, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@KAndrea16: - Newspapers, magazines, books, journals, etc. that are subjected to editorial oversight and have a reputation of facts-checking and accuracy are considered a reliable source. You may find Wikipedia guide on reliable source examples helpful. Please write in only /in your draft/ what has been published in these sources, in your own words substantially retaining the meaning of the original content, and cite the same source as an inline citation for anyone willing to verify the contents of the draft. They were certainly using the account for advertising purposes, but the warning template doesn't seem to match the nature of the block, which is always indefinite. The main thing is to make sure they understand they still can't advertise even if they use a different name. Deb (talk) 18:05, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Anup did you ask anon for a reference for the aibak information on pratap talk page? It would be in wiki spirit to ask for a reference for what you deleted from the Pratap page. Just my .02 Euro. Hi, The unsourced claim should in my opinion be asked to be sourced. Would it be reasonable to put a cite tag on it and wait for public response instead of removing? Best on lights festival. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brookdeweller (talkcontribs) 08:50, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Anup, I did a small search and I did note a rajput site mentions what you had deleted: http://hindurajput.blogspot.com/#Maharana_Pratap Would it be ok if you were to put a reference tag on the matter you deleted? Best. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brookdeweller (talkcontribs) 08:39, 27 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi again Brookdeweller, Unfortunately not, the source you've found is a blog site and blogs are not considered a reliable source. In fact, any user-generated contents are not considered a reliable source, as such Facebook, Twitter, blogs, personal websites, etc. (because anyone may make a facebook, blog, personal website and claim whatever they want to.) A reliable source is one, -which has an editorial oversight and a reputation of facts-checking and accuracy, as such national newspapers, magazines, etc. And, I'm not much active these days around, so unable to provide any user here a quick reply. If you've some more questions related to English Wikipedia, please follow the help-pages linked on top of this page. Happy editing! Anupmehra -Let's talk! 00:25, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Why is it given this tag?

This photo was clicked by me officially for the club in Oman. I have even provided the suitable license but still why is it posted there that it doesn't have proper licensing information.

The Link of the image I was talking about, https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/File:BowsherClubLogo.jpg Alhosniomani20 (talk) 16:29, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Alhosniomani20 -If I understand the situation here, you seem to have clicked a copyrighted work (logo of Bowsher club), and claimed the copyright on the captured image. Copyright thing actually is more complex than it appears to be. By clicking the copyrighted object, you've created a a new copyrighted work and one requires to have consent of the both copyright holders (you and copyright holder of logo) to use the work in question. You may find Wikimedia Commons guide on derivative work a helpful reading. This is why the image is tagged such and must be deleted for copyright violation, if this is the case. If you've some more questions, please ask it on help-pages linked on top of this page (-in pink box, as I'm not much active these days around). Ted Pretty Draft

Hi Anupmehra, As requested i have edited my article based on the amendments you gave me, I would be very grateful if you could please review again: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Edward_Pretty Many thanks Joe

  • Hello Joesutton95 -I just had a quick look at your draft and found the problems pointed out in my last review, -'not yet solved'. I asked you to,"[..]write in only what already has been written in multiple reliable sources, -in your own words 'substantially retaining' the meaning of the original contents[..]", but it appears that you've simply copy-pasted the contents from multiple sources in your draft (click here to check). It does constitute copyright violation, what Wikipedia takes very seriously. I say again, write in only what already has been written in multiple reliable sources, -in your own words 'substantially retaining' the meaning of the original contents. If you don't fix the issue at earliest, it is possible that someone may nominate the draft for deletion for copyright violation. And please do always remember to sign your talk page messages by typing four tildes (~~~~).
I may unable to assist you with prompt replies, if you've some more questions related to your draft or English Wikipedia, please follow the help-pages linked on top of this page. Anupmehra -Let's talk! 01:01, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hello Anupmehra, Many thanks for your reply it is much appreciated, I have spent the day adjusting the article to avoid any copyright violation. I would be very grateful if you could please review the article when you next get chance as I feel you understand the effort I have gone to and the changes I have needed to make more than anyone else. I have been trying to get my article published since late August so any assistance would be much appreciated. Many thanks Anup.

Hello Anupmehra, thank you for reviewing the article im very grateful and hope theres more people out there who wish to improve it further. My only question is that Ted's section on his Career at Telstra is no longer present, this is an important pert of his career and it was present when i submitted, is their any reason its no longer there? Thanks Joesutton95 (talk) 09:23, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Joesutton95: -Yes, being in the articles space, it is supposed to be edited by the Wikipedia community. That particular section on Telstra was removed due to copyright violation (check). Despite my last suggestion, to either remove or re-write original contents copied from source/s, -it was not done in context of this section. Therefore I had to remove it with my this edit. You may reinstate the contents writing them in your own words. Cheers! Anupmehra -Let's talk! 12:22, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Editing Happy New Year Film

Its been clearly seen that the film is not what the producers mentioned as trailer like this "The promos of the film revealed that it belongs to a new genre of musical heist" after everyone watched 2001 American film "Ocean's Eleven". The Plot and some Scenes are lifted without prior copyrights. May be we can write as been inspired by Ocean's Eleven film.

Hi, I'm from Helicon Music in Israel, representing Idan Raichel. We'd like to replace the photo on his page. How? Thanks, Eitan Eitanshavit (talk) 11:10, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Morning Eitan. If you have a photo of Raichel to which you own the copyright, and you wish to freely license it (so that anyone can use it, even your competitors, even for money), you could upload it at Wikimedia Commons (you might need to make an account there too, or not). Then it could be considered whether to use your new photo instead of the existing one. Which should be easy, since the existing one is so old now. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 20:11, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Anupmehra. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).[reply]

If you see one of those 'car fuel' things that ends up with 'toyota.com', stick a G11 on it as well as copyvio. (If it's not a copyvio, just use the G11 anyway.). Just because bbb23 is an admin that doesn't mean he is an angel and we normal editors are always in error compared to him. He has shown quite unseemly conduct regarding the edits of this page. Plus, he repeatedly removed my comments on his talk page without even addressing them. Even worse, is that you seem to have followed in his foot-steps. You claim that the 3rd source doesn't mention jew; well, check page 3 where it clearly mentions he is a jew as he told someone. You parrot that the 2nd article is offensive. A well-regarded Israeli news site being anti-semitic...Imagine that! And even if it was offensive, that doesn't necessarily make its content false. Anyway, i suspect that bbb23 will aim to eventually shiftily remove my edit, so i will be keeping a close eye on it. Cheers to you.58.106.224.21 (talk) 22:55, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry if you felt that way. I really had a glance of the third source, and I didn't find any sentence that would suggest Belfort of being Jewish descent (I noted the same in my edit-summary). Looking again, if I did miss something. And, second source, -I'm quite unaware of that. I said in my edit-summary, as the source has been contested as an offensive source, it should not be added at this time. If you believe the source is not offensive and appropriate as NYT is, please discuss the matter on article's talk page to reach a consensus. However, Jewish thing is already attributed to another reliable source ([1]). I'm not sure why does it actually need more than one? Anupmehra -Let's talk! 23:47, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I just had a look at third source, You cited the first page as inline citation (diff) that's why, I (diff) and Bbb23 (diff) both said that it does not even mention the claim it is cited for. You should have made it page 3. We were right in our capacity. I would request you to not carry such hatred view towards any editor, there may be some confusion or misunderstanding between us. We've got a lot of space on here. Let's talk! :) Anupmehra -Let's talk! 23:47, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Digital Banking Club page

Hiya,

I'm the creator of The Digital Banking Club page,

Please could you let me know what I have to do further for it to be published. It isn't an orgaisation that garners much in the way of media or articles written about it so there isn't that many sources so to speak.

Any tips?

Thanks

GraceDurie (talk) 14:25, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi GraceDurie -Well, I'll start with What Wikipedia is and What it is Not. It really is not a database of everything that exists but a free encyclopedia that seeks its contents to be verified against third-party, reliable sources, such as newspapers, magazines, books, journals, etc. We've a detailed guideline on What qualifies for inclusion and what not, largely based on this presumption at WP:Notability.
In present case, as 'The Digital Banking Club' doesn't appear to have received 'significant coverage in multiple secondary, independent and reliable sources', one may unable to write an encyclopedia article about the same. Being frank, nothing can be done at this time either from mine or your side to push it into Wikipedia articles space. I would advise you to wait and try again some time later when it receives kind of coverage the inclusion guideline is seeking for. I hope, you find it helpful. Review of IBEX Global

Hi, thanks for the quick review of IBEX Global page. I have left some reasons on the talk page of the article, kindly have a look and if you still think there should be changes, your valued feedback would be appreciated. I have tried to state factual evidence from reliable sources to my best and have tried to avoid any publicity or advertisement terms used by the company on their official website/LinkedIn page. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bijan.Faz (talkcontribs) 10:45, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Bijan.Faz -Firstly, thank you for your contribution on project. The actual problem with the page you created is, copyright violation. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously. You must not copy-paste contents from copyright-protected sources, but write them in your own words substantially retaining the meaning of the sourced contents. I've not taken into consideration whether the subject, 'IBEX Global' qualifies for inclusion or not as there were some more serious issues, WP:PROMOTION and as said earlier WP:COPYVIO.
You may find the notability guideline for comapnies/organization helpful in determining whether subject is eligible for inclusion or not. In short, the guideline states that the subject qualifies for inclusion if it has received significant coverage in multiple secondary, independent and reliable sources. If you believe subject merits a Wikipedia article, I'll advise you to start with WP:Article Wizard (this way, if found some problem other than copyvio, it'd be declined instead being deleted). I hope, it does help. Cheers! Anupmehra -Let's talk! 11:03, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciate your prompt response. As a next step, I would like to know if I can just re-write the current article and re-write it in my own words to make it more appropriate and make sure it does not appear to be a copyright violation. Or, will this be surely deleted and I need to go through the article wizard again to submit a fresh one for review? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bijan.Faz (talkcontribs) 11:20, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Bijan.Faz: -It is very likely to be deleted due to copyright-violation. Also, I think, there's no content worth saving as they are nothing but copyright-infringement. You should start writing it from scratch in your own words. If it's your first article, I'd recommend you reading our guideline on 'first article' at WP:Your first article. Feel free to ask me more questions. Also, please do remember to sign and date your talk page messages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Best wishes!
