Election map

Thank you for the map File:ElectoralCollege2020_with_results.svg! Can you color in PA because it's been called for Biden? Jehochman Talk 14:17, 6 November 2020 (UTC)

@Jehochman: Biden is leading in PA and GA, but neither have been called for either candidate by any major news organization. The working consensus is to not color a state until there is agreement among major news organizations. At this point, I think it is unlikely that either race will be called until 100% of the precincts in that state have certified their results. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 14:58, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
Decision Desk HQ has called it, and I think the networks will soon follow, once they get clearance. I suspect this kind of thing requires multiple sign offs. I don't think the map is being used anywhere yet, which is why I made the request, so that we are ready when it is needed. I don't think the map will be posted until this call is confirmed by at least one news network. Jehochman Talk 15:05, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
Jehochman, The working consensus is to not color a state until there is agreement among major news organizations to call the state. The exact opposite is the case right now: NPR, WaPo, NYT, Reuters, Politico, Fox News, and CNN are all not calling PA, GA, NC, or AZ. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 18:54, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
Is there a simple way somebody can color the map or is it better for you to do it? I don't expect you to be online at all times on-call for this. Jehochman Talk 20:54, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
Jehochman, If you can edit wikitext, you can edit the map. There are three labeled comma-separated lists of postal abbreviations. Download the file, open it in a text editor (like Notepad), and move a state from one list to the other. Open the file in your web browser to make sure you didn't break anything, then upload. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 21:25, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
I have the power! Thank you. Jehochman Talk 22:22, 6 November 2020 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Defender of the Wiki Barnstar
An immense thank you for your work in creating and maintaining User:AntiCompositeBot/ASNBlock. That we've gotten better in dealing with proxies and datacenters is one of the big ways we've managed to cut down in abuse over the years. The other day, out of curiosity, I tried to access Wikipedia from an Azure instance and found that it had been blocked only weeks earlier, by me, using this tool. This tool has facilitated thousands of useful blocks, and I deeply appreciate your time spent on it. Keep up the good work. Best, KevinL (aka L235 · t · c) 00:40, 25 December 2020 (UTC)

ASNBlock for blocks expiring soon

Hi ACN, hope you're well. I was wondering whether it is possible to create a new subpage of User:AntiCompositeBot/ASNBlock listing IP ranges that are currently blocked but whose blocks will expire soon (say, within 30 days). And if it's possible, how much work would it be? Best, KevinL (aka L235 · t · c) 10:22, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

L235, It's certainly possible. I put together a proof-of-concept at User:AntiCompositeBot/ASNBlock/expiring that includes unblocked ranges and rangeblocks expiring in the next 30 days. It broke the first time I ran it, but it's running now and should give the correct results in about two hours. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 02:23, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

Hyphenator

Does the tool Hyphenator convert always to ISBN-13, despite the fact, that older books only have ISBN-10? Grimes2 (talk) 10:56, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

@Grimes2: Yes. The purpose of the tool is to standardize the display of ISBN numbers, and that includes converting to the current standard. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 03:55, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
In Wikipedia, it is recommended to use ISBN-10 for older works (However, if an older work only lists an ISBN-10, use that in citations instead of calculating an ISBN-13 for it.). Would you please build a version of your tool without ISBN-13 conversion and only with hyphenator for wikipedia. Grimes2 (talk) 17:15, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
Grimes2, I have added an option checkbox. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 19:56, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

Technical news

  • When blocking an IPv6 address with Twinkle, there is now a checkbox with the option to just block the /64 range. When doing so, you can still leave a block template on the initial, single IP address' talkpage.
  • When protecting a page with Twinkle, you can now add a note if doing so was in response to a request at WP:RfPP, and even link to the specific revision.
  • There have been a number of reported issues with Pending Changes. Most problems setting protection appear to have been resolved (phab:T273317) but other issues with autoaccepting edits persist (phab:T275322).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, F7 (invalid fair-use claim) subcriterion a has been deprecated; it covered immediate deletion of non-free media with invalid fair-use tags.
  • Following a request for comment, page movers were granted the delete-redirect userright, which allows moving a page over a single-revision redirect, regardless of that redirect's target.

Technical news

  • When you move a page that many editors have on their watchlist the history can be split and it might also not be possible to move it again for a while. This is because of a job queue problem. (T278350)
  • Code to support some very old web browsers is being removed. This could cause issues in those browsers. (T277803)

Page move request

Can you please move the page Julie Chen to Julie Chen Moonves? She has recently been signing off with this name and using it publicly. Thank you. PedigreeWWEFigz87V2 (talk) 19:59, 27 April 2021 (UTC)

@PedigreeWWEFigz87V2: Because there have been a few disputes about the correct title for this page, I feel that a requested move discussion would be a good idea. If you feel a discussion is not necessary, however, you can ask another page mover to move the page at WP:RM/TR. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 23:04, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
