Discussion about the deletion of empty categories

There is a discussion about an "empty" category, you deleted here - User_talk:Nyttend#Deleting_empty_categories

I think you should bear in mind that some categories are "empty", mainly because certain individuals have been emptying them, arguably a form of vandalism. There appears to be no safeguard against this.

There was a long discussion about renaming the category - Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2009_October_1#Category:Israeli_Fascists - but it was emptyed DELIBERATELY, because of people wishing to airbrush a particular aspect of their past.--MacRusgail (talk) 16:17, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

Re this edit - when writing on railway topics, we normally wikilink to stations and not places, but Battersea Park railway station was already linked earlier on, so I've removed your link to Battersea Park. I wasn't sure if listing it with db-histmerge would solve the problem because it only involves a partial edit history. The current article is located at Kaupulehu, Hawaii. Question about page move

I'm trying to get active in the move process, as a result of stumbling across Category:Requests to move a userspace draft. However, I haven't been active at WP:RM, so I don't quite know how that page works. (I see a list of requests, which I take to be open requests, is there a log of completed requests)?

My particular question relates to this move

I'll first note that Wikipedia has manged to create a need for a process, by creating the {{move draft}} template, but if someone has articualted process, I haven't seen it. As a consequence, I'm making it up on the fly. In short, I review the request, if the article meets a very low hurdle, I move it, but if it is seriously deficient, I decline the move an post specific suggestions for improvement on the editor's talk page.

In my view, an article with no references should not be moved.

In addition WP:RM explicitly notes:

1 Processes beyond the scope of this page

Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves: ...


  • Moves from User space - (new/unconfirmed users only) add {{move draft}} to the top of the article.

So I am puzzled that it was handled at WP:RM

Don't get me wrong, I'm struggling to clear the backlog at Category:Requests to move a userspace draft, and would love some help, but I'd like to see us put together a coherent process.

Problems with a disruptive rollbacker

Hi! I would like to evidence you the continuous rollbacks by user:Colin Gleen of my wikification of Ferrol. My editings consisted in adding a standard infobox, removing all POV parts, purging some sections which had no role in an encyclopedia, and other format adds. By the way, this user is easily recognizable for he's dedicating himself only to Ferrol, with articles full of useful stuff but full of POV and amateurish digressions (for example, in an article about a journal published in that Spanish city, 75% of the text spoke about Ferrol's economic crisis...). Un/Controversial moves

  • Hey. I know you've been moving pages at the request of User:EunSoo, but please be advised that these page moves are controversial as they go against both consensus and established Wikipedia guidelines. For example, Jessica Jung should not be at Jessica Jung, as she goes by simply "Jessica" in her professional life. Her surname, although correct, should not be included in the page name.
    His controversial moves, listed at the talk pages of both Talk:Rain (entertainer) and Talk:Kahi (entertainer) have shown that the user's moves are indeed controversial. However, the user continues to move, or ask to move, pages regardless of other editors' comments.
    So I guess my request is, could you please undo the move so that it can be properly discussed on the talk page? Thanks in advance.  :) SKS (talk) 23:05, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
  • Hold on a sec. SKS are you basing this on my history of moves. So because I submitted a couple of moves you disagree with you suddenly think that my moves are negative. It is quite clear that Jessica is not only called Jessica but also Jessica Jung. You see this is what I am referring to so because someone is called Jessica that means it should be Jessica (entertainer) that makes no sense, espacially when she is also popluarliy known as Jessica Jung.   • Wait a sec Anthony is that even allowed? Do the rules say that an article can't have the subjects last name in it? Cause I don't see it in the rules. If so explain to me why Im Yoona is not Yoona or Yoona (entertainer) because this is actually getting me angry now. Since Anthony is the mover then we need his opinion on this because if it was against the rules then Anthony wouldn't have moved it and just set it out for discussion. Not every article move needs to be based consensus. And this is a prime example that because Wikipedia already has a perfectly good title for her and it is being used as a redirect page.   • Im Yoona was decided after some discussion because the page was created some time before the rest of the Girls' Generation solo pages, when Yoona was more notable than the rest of the members due to her acting. I believe she is credited under "Im Yoona" for dramas (this is in Korean, but see this news article. As such, Im Yoona makes sense. Jessica Jung doesn't make sense according to Wikipedia naming conventions, because she goes by her first name "Jessica" professionally in all that she does. (Probably because there are no other Jessicas in South Korean entertainment.) Therefore, it doesn't make sense to add her surname to the page name. EunSoo, I know that you're having serious issues with the way Wikipedia names pages, but all the pages are (well, were) at their current locations for good reasons.   • That's just it doesn't makes sense because:
  1. The rules don't say you can't use the surname
  2. She is also called Jessica Jung and if not then why is it in her article
  3. Jessica is already taken, thus Jessica Jung is another alternative.

I haven't been very involved in this controversy, but it seems from reading the talk pages for EunSoo's various moves that he/she doesn't understand WP's naming and disambiguation policies and keeps initiating moves in spite of opposition and patient explanation by a diverse chorus of editors. I hope that EunSoo can be persuaded to start properly characterizing his/her moves as potentially controversial rather than sneaking them in as uncontroversial; in the mean time, is there a way to implement some sort of administrative moratorium on his/her move requests? Masonic temple (disambiguation) move

In this edit you implemented a requested move. I had requested exactly that. However, there has been much discussion, and I agreed with a different proposal that it should be moved to "Masonic Temple" instead. Your move did not close the discussion or resolve the issues there. Could you revisit and comment in the discussion section please. It is confusing to me and to others, that it appears a capital A Administrator has visited and rendered judgement, when clearly it is not resolved by any consensus. Your acknowledging that it is not resolved (and perhaps that you should not have implemented the move yet) would be appreciated. --doncram (talk) 15:34, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

  • I noticed you moved Vektor less than 24 hours after a move request was started, despite opposition. I'm not sure why that was necessary. As you know, move requests are usually open for about 7 days to allow time for editors to develop consensus. While I would have no problem with a move if there is consensus, I am surprised at your rush. Would you please consider undoing this move and reopening the discussion? Okan

  • I think I may have got myself in a muddle here, putting the wrong thing in the {{db-move}}! What I meant to end up with was: Okan for the article about the Go competition, and Okan (disambiguation) for the dab page. A previous editor had moved the Go comp to a disambiguated heading, without updating any of the incoming links; none of the items on the dab page are uses of "Okan" alone (mostly they are people with it as given name), so I think the Go comp should revert to being at Okan.   • Hi Anthony. Can I ask for your help in sorting out a move that you were previously involved in as administrator. Qamdo (town) is clearly the primary use of Qamdo (the prefecture and county are named after their capitals, which are the town). I have moved the existing page, a disambiguation page, to Qamdo (disambiguation), but admin help is required to move the town article to Qamdo. There really is no need for the (town), which is generally deprecated for placenames. I have updated the hatnote on the town article in preparation. The question of whether all the entities should be known as Qamdo or Chamdo is an entirely different, and as yet unsettled, matter. Skinsmoke (talk) 18:28, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

First Arab Congress (1913)

  • I saw you deleted the article about this Paris event. I have no idea what the article looked like and must assume it was not up to Wikipedia standards. However, I can assure you as an academic in the field that the 1913 Arab Congress in 1913 was just as seminal and influential as the 1897 Zionist Congress in Basel, which did rightfully receive an article. 132.229.189.116 (talk) 13:54, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
