Harbourfront Centre, Toronto → Harbourfront Centre

• Harbourfront Centre in Toronto should be moved back to this page. It does not make sense to compare an international cultural center with 12 million visitors a year with a shopping mall. Because HarbourFront Centre in Singapore has a capital F, it could be easily distinguished. There could still be a disambiguation page which lists both locations from the top of the Harbourfront Centre page. Takinson (talk) 17:04, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

  • Thank you Anthony, however, I'm not sure if my point is coming across regarding the move. I'm proposing the move of Harbourfront Centre, Toronto to Harbourfront Centre and Harbourfront Centre to Harbourfront Centre (disambiguation) due to a prominence issue. Is there a certain and perhaps different process for such a move? So I'm asking to have Harbourfront Centre (disambiguation) be separate from Harbourfront Centre (which is currently acting as the disambiguation page). (Takinson (talk) 17:17, 7 May 2010 (UTC))
• I see nothing wrong with the current setup, except the naming of this page (which I am about to move to Harbourfront Centre (Toronto)) - I don't think the average reader sees a huge difference between Harbourfront Centre and HarbourFront Centre, so the dab is useful. ~ Amory (u • t • c) 15:25, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
  • With all due respect, I do see a problem with the current setup. Based on Wikipedia rules on disambiguation, in case of two articles with the same name, a primary topic could be identified. Both the page visit numbers and number of pages linking to Harbourfront Centre (Toronto) are far higher in numbers than the shopping mall in Singapore. Also, as I said before, the prominence of Harbourfront Centre, based on facts, numbers and common sense, far exceeds that of the Singapore mall. On this ground, I am requesting to make Harbourfront Centre (Toronto) the primary topic and moving it to Harbourfront Centre and having a hatnote linking to Harbourfront Centre (Singapore). In this case, no disambiguation page is required as there are only two Harbourfront Centres on Wikipedia and there is a need for such a page only if there are 3 or more articles of the same name. Wireless Toronto Advertisement

Is it necessary to have the Wireless Toronto Advertisement? If the location has Wi-Fi saying it has wifi should do. Harbourfront Centre can surely say who provides their wifi on their own homepage.Woods01 (talk) 07:32, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

dubious date

Harbourfront was a 1972 election promise, but the corporation may not have been founded immediately that year. I have sources giving either 1976 or 1974 as founding years. I view 1976 as more reliable.

Here is another source (Department of Finance Canada) that states that the Harbourfront Corporation was established in 1978.

queen's quay terminal

As I understand it, QQT was developed under Harbourfront Corporation, and not under Harbourfront Centre. I am questioning it's inclusion here. It's covered in the Harbourfront (neighbourhood) article.Feldercarb (talk) 01:22, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

trivia section -- dubious

We are not clearly distinguishing between Harbourfront and Harbourfront Centre.

• First children's summer day camps at Harbourfront Centre was in 1978. -- can't be, because H.Cen was founded 1991
• Cirque du Soleil performed at Harbourfront Centre in 1985 early in its infancy. -- can't be, because H.Cen was founded 1991
• The first WOMAD festival in Canada was held at Harbourfront Centre in 1988.[2] -- can't be, because H.Cen was founded 1991

I can go on, but I think you see my drift

History

There could be a lot more material on history. I came to this page looking for history of name changes of the theatre in the former ice plant. It was known as the "du Maurier Theatre [Centre] for many years until name ran afoul of Federal cigarette advertising restrictions. I do remember the 1972 newspaper headlines which announced it.Rdmoore6 (talk) 11:37, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

It is even worse for the venue which the February 2019 version of website page: https://www.harbourfrontcentre.com/venues/concertstage/ "Concert Stage" is probably the former Westjet Stage. I have found 1981 Globe&&Mail advertisement and review which talk about an opera performed at "Big Top" which I suspect is the same venue. My personal experience (a bad basis for Wikipedia revision) is that current "Fleck Dance Theatre" was originally "Premiere Dance Theatre"Rdmoore6 (talk) 00:36, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
